Nah, you lose much more. This packaging loses the Xbone controller($39), Wireless Xbone Adapter ($20) (and USB extender), Oculus remote($29), and Rockband adapter($10?) while still at same price of $399. Maybe I'm just petty at getting extra goodies, but I'm glad I lucked out and got one of the original packages last week.
It's the Xbox wireless adapter for Windows. Unfortunately the Elite controller, for all its features, does not support a Bluetooth connection (there are newer Xbox controllers that do and a new version is in the works that supports it). The play and charge kit does come with a really long cable so if the controller dies, I can plug it in and continue to charge it while playing.
As someone who owns the white and Dawn Shadow versions of this, I can tell you I used the Asus BT400, and it worked ok, but I was also only ever 2-3 feet away from it. Even then, I still had some small issues with it. I ended up sucking it up and buy the official Microsoft Xbox One Adapter for Windows. I've had zero issues since, and I highly suggest you just got for that, especially since it's only $19 right now, as opposed to it's normal $25.
I use this adapter with four controllers. It works very well.

The deal will be available at your local warehouse as well but stock might vary depending on the location(try calling them with product id - 1083205). The great thing about Costco is their extended Satisfaction warranty, if it breaks, return it and they will give you a new one or refund it. This supersedes Microsoft's paltry 3-month warranty.
All the usual questions
You can either plug it in with a micro USB cable or buy the Xbox wireless adapter.
Yes you can, If they are wired controllers you can just plug them into a USB slot. If they're wireless ones you need to get a wireless adapter
Xbox 360: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Xbox One: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449962655&sr=1-1&keywords=xbox+wireless+adapter
It's not Bluetooth because MS developed a faster, higher bandwidth protocol utilizing Wi-Fi direct designed specifically to lower latency for gaming.
Your phone cord doesn't work because it's a charging cable, it's missing the data element. You need a micro usb data cable to connect it to a PC.
Here is the wireless adapter http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
If they can round up eight controllers they can use the wireless adapter to play the game together. I have it for two people and it works great!

As long as it's not an insurmountable distance from your PC to your TV, you can run an HDMI cable and a USB extension between them. Then buy one of these and you're set:

More trouble than it's worth? Probably! But I did it and I'm happy. To each his own.
> I want to play co op lego games with my nieces and nephews, I want to play split screen with my mates, then watch a bluray with my mrs of an evening
Lego with the little guys? Got it! Even checked to make sure they were local co-op.
http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/LEGO/#p=0&tab=NewReleases
You'll probably have to go a bit outside your comfort zone for local co-op with friends, but that is also a dying feature for consoles too. However, if you're cool with some indie games... Gotta recommend Samurai Gunn specifically. That game is god damn amazing! You and your friends will fuckin' die laughing while you deflect bullets, cut off each others heads, jump up walls, get impaled on spikes, and crushed by big ass boxes.

> I want to do all this quickly, easily and consistently and I don't want to spend a months wages, and more every 6 months, to do so
Building the computer is as simple as building a lego set. It takes a couple hours to initially set up, but it only needs done once. After that, it's just as easy as pressing the home button on your xbox to launch steam big picture and choose your favorite game to play.
PCs will be more than a console upfront. You will spend more than $300 on a PC, but not much more unless you want to. If you factor in the price of a couple games and a year of XBOX live or PSN, PC is already cheaper.
Plus, where are you going to find sales like this? http://www.gameois.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/steamos-sale.jpg
They happen damn near constantly on PC. New game you want isn't on sale? No worries. Green Man Gaming has a 20% off coupon every month that can be applied to any game they have. Save yourself $12 right there without even needing a sale.
You don't have to upgrade any more frequently than you want. The consoles are on 2012 tech. Games will stay with that as a baseline until new consoles come out.
All that said, look here for a parts breakdown with prices of various price ranges: https://www.reddit.com/r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds
I'd recommend The Crusher as a baseline, then maybe asking over at /r/buildapc if you need help or want to make changes. I know you said you don't like PCMR, which is fine... The circlejerk gets old for us too... But there a ton of great communities on reddit for this. Maybe try /r/pcgaming as it's a bit more mature.
One thing I will say about PCMR is that they are most goddamn generous sub out there. Constantly giving away games, components, monitors, etc. and surprisingly helpful, but you do have to get past the kids and the circlejerk to see that.
If you do decide to look into, like I said, /r/buildapc is a great resource to start and you can also free to PM me if you'd like.
Have a good one, brother!

yes there is a wireless adapter. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Just bought the controller/wireless adapter/play and charge kit from bestbuy for instant gratification. The BT hasn't been reliable but that's probably an issue with my wifi/BT on MB as I never even connected the antenna until today to try out the BT. Got it to work fine then it stopped working, rinse repeat until I just went ahead and connected the wireless adapter and everything works fine with it. Maybe Ill mess with BT again by I got the wireless adapter so that I can use a headset connected to the conntroller while gaming from the couch.
This is what you need.

Here's a build I put together for you. This thing will destroy any game at ultra settings 1080p @ 60 FPS! You won't have to overclock if you don't want to, however it is pretty easy to do with Ryzen! You're going to want to set your RAM to run at the highest speed it possibly can without crashing though to get the best performance!
I went with raw performance over RGB and LEDs.
You have a TON of storage with this build. You'll have a 128 GB SSD for Windows which will make it boot and run incredibly fast. You can also store commonly used programs on here and a game or two that has long loading times. For all your other games and media, you have a 2 TB HDD!
Regarding your question about running the second screen, it should have negligible performance impact unless you plan on doing something intensive on it like rendering a video, playing another game, or something along those lines (aka browsing the internet on a separate screen won't impact you at all).
You can use a TV with this, however, TVs have different display properties when compared to a typical computer monitor. I'm not super knowledgeable on this topic, but I do know that TVs have lower refresh rates (around 25 Hz) that use different technology to blend frames together to make it appear like smooth transitions from frame to frame (if I'm wrong hopefully someone can correct me, although I'm pretty sure that's how it works). Also, TVs have much higher input lag. So playing competitive games on a TV will put you at a significant disadvantage. Long story short, you can totally game on your TV, it won't be AS enjoyable as on a normal monitor though.
With regards to you question about the controller, you can buy a USB adapter that you can use to connect your controller to. I personally have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510282262&sr=1-3&keywords=xbox+controller+adapter+for+pc and it works wonderfully! You can connect multiple controllers to it as well.
If you have any questions please let me know and I'll do my best to answer!
Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FmmMxbNF8E4J4
You need bluetooth for the new controllers (One S onward afaik) or you need a Wireless Adapter for Windows.
Sire,
I present the Crusader. $720 but the cost is reduce able.
It seems expensive but you can cut the cost in a few ways.
First, this build is more powerful than your xbox. If you want to use a controller you just need to get an xbox one controller receiver for computer.
Second cost cutter. If you have any parts around your house, let me know. I can work those into the current game.
Third, you can replace the windows OS with a linux build. Linux is a free operating system that just happens to work with ck2. It does not work with much else.
Fourth, the graphics card is optional if you really only want to do ck2 and other simple games on this machine. However, keeping this card will ensure you can play many games on this and they will look better than on the xbone.
If you decide to build this, check out /r/buildapc and /r/pcmasterrace.
You know, you could just pick up a wireless adapter for your PC so you can use your Xbox controller wirelessly, hook up your PC to your TV so you can play it on the big screen and just play it from bed on PC with your controller. It has great controller support on PC -I recently set up one of my ps4 controllers with it and it works really well.

My motherboard is an asus so it might've been an issue with their shit drivers as well.
You can but depending on what version of Windows there's some limitations to it. I would personally just buy the dedicated adapter and use it. It's what I have an it's worked without issues. Then again, I'm using it on Windows 10.
You need the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10

With games that you find on a console you can usually just plug in an Xbox One or Xbox 360 controller to play. You can use a wired connection or an adapter (for the Xbox One controller) that you can buy here. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU Mouses are a lot easier to aim with. I'd only suggest using a controller for shooters if the shooter is a singleplayer game like Bioshock or Fallout, otherwise you'll get rekt in multiplayer games.
According to the amazon link, looks like it only works wired. Though I'd imagine someone has managed to get it to work wirelessly. FWIW, in the "often bought together" section, it includes an XB wireless adapter, possibly suggesting that it works? I'm sure someone will chime in with more info.
>Compatible controllers with Steam Link: Steam Controller, Xbox One USB wired, Xbox 360 USB wired, Xbox 360 wireless, PS4, PS3 wired and Wii-U Pro. Many third-party Xbox controllers are also supported.
Also from steam.wikia
>Xbox One Controller Yes USB, Adapter + VH. Wired works as expected. Steam Link doesn't support the wireless adapter alone, but through VirtualHere it's supposed to works. [References and instructions needed]
>I own an Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for PC and was wondering if it was possible to use the Xbox One Controller for it?
nope. you can buy this though.
>Do I need to buy another wireless receiver just to use the Xbox One controller?
No, you can use a microUSB cable with an Xbox One controller.
Just a USB to go from the controller to the PC. Or this which is awesome!
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Different adapter required for each. This is the new model.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Only way for a Xbox One controller, it's proprietary wireless. Or just plug the damn thing in via USB
PS3/4 controller is just bluetooth.
Sony's PS4 controllers are all standard Bluetooth controllers, supported across the board. Every OS and platform. No software required. No dongles required.
Xbox One controllers used a mix of wireless standards, some requiring a fucking USB dongle that doesn't work on anything not Windows.
I had to buy this shit to order to get my Xbox One controllers to work with my computer:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/
Meanwhile, my PS4 controllers can just sync via Bluetooth.
Only the newer One S and One X controllers support standard connectivity.
I've had my Xbox One for a long time (I got the original model + Xbox Kinect), and I've never used the Xbox controllers with anything other than my Xbox One.
They simply don't work with anything else I have (other than Windows when used with a dongle). That is hardly "supported across the board".
It does support wireless adapter. I use one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
don't always trust the first price Amazon shows you. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=olp_f_primeEligible?ie=UTF8&f_new=true&f_primeEligible=true. $50 is a amazon shop who sells it for that much because Amazon itself doesn't have it in stock.
>klusion
Thanks for the tip. I just bought this which I assume is the right one?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZB7W4QU
Picked up a xbox on S wireless bluetooth.
Should i get this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009ZIILLI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3HIHADV23VGU1
or this
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
figured with how small the price difference is i should just get the one specified for the controller since that is the sole purpose of it.
That isnt what it means, it just means it is made by Microsoft, check your invoice.
For reference, this is all the people selling that part new:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
The Wii-u pro controller and DualShock 3 (and maybe 2) can all be used in a simple adapter:
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Wireless-Wii-Controller-Adapter/dp/B00E6553PW
Wired Xbox controllers work as soon they are plugged in, wireless are connected through a Microsoft adapter:
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478957993&sr=1-1&keywords=xbox+adapter
Awesome. Just remember that you need a microsoft XB1 dongle too (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/)!
And you have to update the firmware on the controller, listed in the post that /u/RageCS gave you.
It's the best solution if you want a brand new RB guitar and you want to avoid wireless lag.
ALSO: if you get sick of the mushy strumbar in the RB4 Fender Stratocaster, you can pick up a Strum Fix Plus to replace it with. The installation process is listed on his website, but I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you're comfortable with opening electronics up. I did it to my RB1 controllers because I bought them for like $5.
Yup, Bluetooth is Xinput, but you can't use the audio jack via Bluetooth. You need the wireless adapter for that and Windows 10
bluetooth is a shitshow.........got one of these and never looked back https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Are you talking about this one?

There you go. It also come with a 3ft cable so it doesn't stick out of your PC like crazy

EDIT: I'd double check but, this seems to be the correct product, wrong name. (The description and the picture are correct) but here ya go, from Amazon.
http://www.amazon.ca/Microsoft-Wireless-Display-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
They don't tell you on the box, the box says works with windows 10... I have windows 10. All other Microsoft controllers work with steam link, why should this be an exception? The Xbox 360 wireless dongle works with the steam link ffs... Why wouldn't I be surprised?
If you look at the specifications, it is extremely misleading
The fact that it is even a news story on most gaming sites confirms that it is misleading otherwise there wouldn't be a need for articles...
Both the 360 and One controllers have an available adapter for use with PC. In the case of the 360 controller specifically, there are plenty of cheaper, third party alternatives.
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/
you can always buy the wireless adapter for the contoller. its not super expensive. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Do you have an Xbox One S controller? I don't believe the "original" Xbox One controllers have bluetooth. You would need to use the Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU).
you have the USB wireless xbox adapter? https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
All XBOne controllers work with a USB cable plugged in. If you want to use wireless, newer controllers work with any bluetooth dongle. Older controllers require a wireless adapter (the adapter does not work with Steamlink or other non-Windows OSes)
I use wireless controller so I have this adapter
But if it's wired, I believe you can just plug and play
According to Amazon:
Link
I can test tonight to confirm.
The support told me backend teams are working on a fix but have no ETA.
At this point you better get a native USB dongle (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=ice_ac_b_dpb?crid=3W3HQPNP9LR72&keywords=microsoft+xbox+wireless+adapter+for+windows+10&qid=1573213917&sprefix=Microsoft+Xbox+Wireless+Adapter+for+Windows+10%2Caps%2C345&sr=8-3)
Costs $20 but works as expected.
First double-check to make sure your particular model is Bluetooth-compatible - scroll down to Option 3: Bluetooth and check which controller you have.
If it doesn't have an S then yes, it won't work with bluetooth. You'll need this https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Xbox One S controller and Xbox wireless adapter is the best "xbox like" controller you can get. Or an older Xbox360 wireless controller and the adapter, it wtill works fine. It works out of the box with all games. I think the Xbox One S controller requires Windows 10 though.
^
I think the Microsoft Xbox Adapter supports up to 8 controllers. Pretty cheap, I haven't had any issues with controllers unpairing, and the range is pretty good.
If you wanna go the bluetooth route you'd need the new xbone controllers, which have a slightly better feel to them than the older xbone controllers/have both audio inputs.
Wrong one. It's an Xbox One controller so you need this newer one.
Yes it came out last year. You just plug it in and it works great. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Does this work with it?
Any thoughts on this one
Looks to be the official microsoft adapter.
Ya, that or just using the controller wired. Could also go the route of getting one of the newer controller models but that would be a bit expensive seeing as you already bought a controller.
If you go the adapter route this is the one you would need. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491185173&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+one+pc+adapter
You can use a Xbox controller with Windows, you just need an adapter. For Xbox 360 https://smile.amazon.com/Microsoft-Authentic-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B00FAS1WDG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1501172329&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+dongle. And for Xbox One controller https://smile.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1501172360&sr=1-1&keywords=xbox+one+windows+dongle.
I'm wondering if perhaps you reverted a driver that shouldn't have been reverted or disabled one.
What you can try is to use System Recovery and go back to an earlier time period. You can do one that will reset everything (if you don't care about your data or have it saved on the cloud or something; this is my recommended option, if you have important data, back it up to a flash drive or cloud or something) or you can use the one that keeps your files. This one simply messes with driver updates, usually but leaves your files in tact. It might be worth a try. Try to go back before you attempted all these changes.
If that doesn't work, I suggest doing the complete restore.
Literal "Plug" and play, yes. Meaning it works with a cable.
If you want to use wireless, there's either the wireless adapter, or you can use Bluetooth.
the adapter itself?
or my source?
Have both ;)
> (overpriced imho)
It's $24 on Amazon...
I think you need one of these to use it wirelessly on your PC:

I've been using the wireless receiver for the 360 controller for a few years now, and it works great. The driver did get messed up by one of my Bluetooth mouse drivers once though, and that was kind of a pain to fix.
seems overpriced but idk : http://www.amazon.in/Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-One/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457365024&sr=8-1&keywords=Xbox+Wireless+Adapter

If you still need to include those in your budget, you can go down to RX 580, sacrificing some of the performance, and still stay below $1200:

+ xbox one controller - $55
+ wireless adapter - $25
Alternatively, you can use one of third party controllers like Razer Wildcat (nice, but awfully overpriced)/Logitech's F310 or the original xbox 360 controller (my personal favourite till this day), Xbox elite controller of PS3/PS4 Dualshock controller or any off brand Chinese controllers you can think of or a combination of thereof. As this is pc, after all.
My girlfriend told me that at the end of the day she will buy everything in my amazon cart up to 300 dollars...
But I didn't really have anything I needed or even wanted all that bad.. Took me all day to find stuff lol.
So I got
Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2 $97
JD Fenix Limited Edition Xbox One Wireless Controller $55
Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows $21
Xbox One Play and Charge Kit $24
SanDisk 128GB Flash Drive $32
APC 11-Outlet Surge Protector $35
APC 8-Outlet Surge Protector $25
10 Nylon Lanyards for Small Electronic Devices $4
Still have 8 dollars left over haha.
If wireless you will need an adapter
If wired, then connect to the computer via USB cable then download drivers from here

Yes: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/
Right on, thanks man. Is this the thingamajig I wanna get?
You can get an XBOX One controller receiver here off Amazon.
If the controller is a newer one with Bluetooth, you can hook it up that way. Otherwise you'll need a wireless adapter like this one.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
That's not the one. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1550854027&sr=1-3&keywords=xbox+one+wireless+adapter

Unless this is that same thing just not in the casing. I have bluez installed and enabled, no luck :(
I tried something similar, but with a much better Bluetooth adapter, and the answer was no. It simply doesn't work, no matter how much fussing I did with it or looking into it online. You will need to buy this -> https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Maybe I'm wrong, and someone else knows, but I spent a few days trying, and it refused to connect (or be recognized).
Yes you do. here's links for them
1.) https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=xbox+wireless+adapter+pc&qid=1568918908&s=gateway&sr=8-1
2.) Older Model but still works https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-Packaging/dp/B07CJ6GVM8/ref=pd_cp_63_1/135-8873842-0862565?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07CJ6GVM8&pd_rd_r=00698717-b685-4385-843b-b053eca385fb&pd_rd_w=7PUON&pd_rd_wg=3fIIO&pf_rd_p=ef4dc990-a9ca-4945-ae0b-f8d549198ed6&pf_rd_r=YD952J9XYK77NA4CXG07&psc=1&refRID=YD952J9XYK77NA4CXG07
I definitely recommend using Wireless Xbox One controllers along with this. I use it constantly, it's fantastic for gaming on the couch with multiple people as we don't have to deal with wires. Probably the best $25 I've spent in a while.
I haven't looked much into it but going through several articles and forum posts on the CronusMax website I read you could actually use the controller wirelessly if you add the Microsoft wireless adapter. I believe this is the one : https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1466172784&sr=1-1&keywords=microsoft+xbox+wireless+adapter
Again, I haven't looked much into it so I'm not sure how accurate this is.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466089939&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+one+wireless+receiver
He means something like this.
Yeah, I get that. That's why I decided to keep the console. I just thought it funny the guy was honestly trying to sell me a $35-40 controller to cover $11 I would have had to spend. Here is the adapter.
I believe the X Box One controller is plug and play on Windows machines from 7 and up.
Here's a link to the adapter on Amazon. Wal-Mart carries them too still. So you can play with a wireless controller with a cable for now, then get the adapter later when the budget allows

You can also get this to play with the Xbox One controller wirelessly.
I'd suggest PC as well, had a Xbox One, didn't enjoy it very much. That's just my personal experience though.
If you have a dongle then its easier for 360 controllers. Or you can use the recharging cable to plug into a USB port. One controllers are simplified with micro USB being the standard and most being wireless capable. No set up required by the End User.
Elite comes with preconfigured bindings for gamepads, aka controllers, that are usually listed as; gamepad, default context, classic context.
what /u/trashpantaloons said is correct although there's also a wireless adaptor available but I wouldn't recommend it due to limited support (example: wireless adaptor doesn't work with a steamlink while the Bluetooth controller does).
Additionally Steam Controller Software now supports most controllers. That means you can easily use controllers like the Dualshock 4 for PC gaming if you'd like to consider that option or alternatively rebind your keys on your xbone/360 controller.
You can use the XBOX One controller wired with any micro-USB cable. For the wireless function, you'll need to get this.
Only if you get the newer, One S version, you can use it via Bluetooth.
As for the Dualshock, it's bluetooth, has a touchpad and a 3.5mm jack. However, it doesn't have proper support for older games. You'll have to emulate it as an XBOX Controller. The controller also has a lot more features (six axis gyro, lightbar, microphone, etc.) If you have any friend who has a PS4, you can borrow their controller and test it out. Use this software for emulation.
Otherwise, The XBOX One S controller (the white one I listed above) looks like a safe bet.
Ps4
Xbox one
360
Don't know about a Bluetooth dongle that would work. You can also use a USB cable to use your ps4 controller on pc
Edit: fixed links
Here's the wireless dongle on Amazon, if you guys are looking for it.
If your PC literally only has one USB port, then yes. If you have multiple, or can make due by unplugging stuff (like unplugging a USB mouse or keyboard after launching the game), then no.
If you're using wireless controllers, you're also using an adapter, and a lot of them support multiple connections (the official XOne one supports 8), so you'd only need one USB port for the adapter.
Edit:
It's possible that one party might be fine using the keyboard as their controller. There are some people who prefer it even. If that's the case (doubt it 😉), one port is fine.
Some older games even let you map half the keyboard to P1 and the other half to P2. I doubt DBFZ will allow this (the other games the devs have made haven't), but who knows lol
Here is the mobile version of your link
Yes you will need the wireless adapter (pretty much just a USB stick) from mircrosoft and you could start using a xbone controller.
25$ for the Adapter or the Bundle for 67$ if you don't have a xbone controller.
wired is plug and play, wireless controllers will need their own adapter.
xbox one options
xbox one receiver only and
xbox one controller and receiver - cheaper
xbox 360 options
wireless adapter for 360 and
theres no bundle option but here's a 360 wireless controller
the 360 you'll have to buy both the adapter and controller, but it's cheaper than the bundle with the xbox one. 360 controller is $30 and the wireless plug is $18 making it a few bucks cheaper.
when you say usb hub with its own power supply, you mean one of those usb splitter like devices that can be plugged into the wall right?
but also no, its the xbox one kind: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1527092690&sr=8-3&keywords=xbox+controller+adapter
Can you use the Windows adapter for the Xbox One controller on Nintendo switch?
I'm talking about this one: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Will it work on the Switch? Anyone has any experience with it?
There are wireless adapters from Microsoft that plug into a USB port that let you use your wireless Xbox controllers on PC. (They’re on Amazon for like 20 bucks.)https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FUGOCbP8AYFRB]
Apparently the Xbone controllers are optimized for Bluetooth/wireless connection with Windows 10. If you have windows 7/8 you're gonna need the wireless adapter. (There's two, One for 360 & one for Xbone . So be careful if you end up buying)
The graph found on Xbox Support shows that "Wireless connection requires Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows." For Windows 7/8. The controller's Bluetooth is fully functional with windows 10 sans the adapter.
I also recently bought an Xbone controller. Wanted to upgrade from my old wireless 360 controller who he'd I used for Dark Souls & GTA. I have the xbone adapter & windows 7. They work fine now.
Hope this helped.
Yep, that's your problem. If you want the audio passthrough, it's not happening over bluetooth. You need to get the Xbox Wireless Controller Adapter.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478742147&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+pc+wireless
This one is the only model on Amazon with BT support. You can also get this adapter to connect up to eight Xbone controllers of any type.
Don't you need a specific dongle for the Xbox1 controllers? They could have fixed it but I was pretty sure you did.
What I'm referring to: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
You can use an xbox controller wirelessly from your couch with an adapter. Also games can be found for much cheaper and go on sale more often. There's also way more games available. Additionally, you need a computer anyways. Beefing it up a bit while you're at it is a great way to go!
The controller doesn't work worth a damn over bluetooth in windows and nobody can give you a fix. Get the adapter off amazon here I've been using the same adapter for like two years with no issues.
Original Xbox One Controller
As for the Xbox Wireless Adapter I an bit un-sure but I see a few things and some are faded.

Type of Bug: In-game, controllers
Description: No option to switch from controller to mouse. I have an xbox one controller connected to my computer through the wireless connector. When I start the game it defaults to controller setting and prompts me to control everything with the controller, even when the controller is turned off and I have physically removed the usb receiver from the computer. There is also no option to switch between controller and mouse in the settings menu.
system: GTX 780, 16gb RAM, i5-4690k. This is the USB adapter, controller is a standard xbone controller.

huh? what does android have to do with anything? no, you need the Microsoft Wireless Receiver for Windows
like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Xbox-One-Wireless-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=microsoft+wireless+receiver+for+windows&qid=1575058064&sr=8-4 as an example
it HAS to be FOR the xbox controller (and the cheaper, 360 one will NOT work for One controllers either)

OR, you could just plug in in by USB, it WILL work that way, just not wirelessly
OP, the u/ObamalzHitla has a decent build, will just point out you'll need an adapter to use wireless Xbox controllers with your PC

only works if you have windows 10
Not sure about the elite controller but with a normal Xbox One controller you just connect with the mirco usb cord. With the elite contoller you may need to buy the wireless adpater
With this yes. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451420052&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+one+wireless+dongle
Absolutely.
For your controller needs, if you want to use a DualShock4, DS3, Wii U Pro Controller or WiiMote, all you need is a mini Bluetooth dongle and a driver such as DS4Windows (google "[controller] driver windows"). With the proper driver they should be supported under most games, but they might require a button mapping tool to work with some stuff (we can help you with that).
If you want to go the easy route and have a controller supported by most games with no driver configuration as soon as you plug it in, an Xbone controller is your choice. However, it will require a special M$ dongle to work wirelessly, and be warned that this dongle only works under Windows 10. Alternately, if you can live with some inferior design features, you can get a 360 controller (which still works with nearly all controller games) and its corresponding dongle, which has the added benefit of working with all Windows's back to XP. However, be aware that both of these controllers require AA batteries rather than the rechargeable packs found in DualShock/Nintendo. You can buy a rechargeable pack for Xbox controllers but it obviously costs extra.
All of the aforementioned controllers will also work over USB with any operating system.
Now to the second part of your question. I assume that you mean you want to play on your TV–this can be accomplished one of two ways and is easy to setup. The first and most obvious way is to simply keep your PC in your entertainment center and hook it to your TV over HDMI, in much the same way that you would your PS4. Steam's Big Picture mode tries to emulate the homescreen of a console to make controller navigation easier, and does a pretty good job of it. Coming from the PS4 interface I'm sure you'll feel right at home–but you do still need a KB+mouse to get in Big Picture from a cold PC startup. This shouldn't be an issue as there are many cheap wireless keyboards with inbuilt trackpads on offer.
The second way is to use a Steam Link. This is a very handy little set-top box that will stream video input over the internet from a PC in the house–if you've ever heard of the PlayStation TV, this is similar. In order to use the Link you must have fast (at least 10mbps; check using speedtest.net) Ethernet on both ends (your PC and the Link) and a controller that connects over USB (either thru a USB cable or a USB wireless receiver. The Xbox receivers mentioned in a previous paragraph currently don't work with the Link but Valve says they are looking into it). It's very simple to setup–hook the Link to internet, plug in your controller and HDMI cable for TV connection, and pair it with your PC. Then you'll have total access to all your controller-supported PC games from the couch, with no loss of graphics.
Also, as a PC gamer, I have a word for you–there are some games that do play better with KB+M, especially shooters. Trust me, once you try something like Call of Duty with a mouse, you will never be able to go back to aiming with controller sticks. If you want this benefit but still find KB+M uncomfortable, there is the Steam Controller which features a more accurate trackpad in place of the right stick, and will work with most of the games that an Xbox controller works with.
One final word. If you are actually, legitimately serious about getting into PC gaming–please for the LOVE OF GOD do not buy a pre-built one. BUILD. YOUR. OWN. Seriously, if you are looking to surpass consoles and get value for money, I CANNOT stress this enough. Although it may seem daunting at first it's really little more than high-tech LEGOs–/r/BuildaPCforMe will furnish you with a parts list so you don't have to bother with that, and then the build will take two hours tops (even if you're inexperienced). There are tons of great videos on YouTube that will show you how–this is my personal fave, although I do advise you not to use any of those parts since that vid is considerably old.
If you have any questions feel free to reply to this and I can help you out.

Can't you use one of these for Xbone?
You mean this? It can't connect directly to a headset, it goes through the controller, either using the adapter to convert it to a regular 3.5" combined headphone/speaker jack, or using the official headset that plugs straight into the controller.
Does it include the Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows or do we have to get that separately?
I didn't see it anywhere.
The random moments might be because the Xbox One wire thing is often pretty loose (i used to have that issue with another game).
We'll try to get it sorted. One option in the meantime might be picking up one of these:

I wouldn't blame MS, Micro usb is the standard for almost everything these days. Things seem to be slowly switch to USB-C, thank god.
Hmm, is there any reason you're wanting to use Bluetooth for the connection? You could grab the official wireless adapter.
If you particularly want Bluetooth connectivity, you can probably just get a USB adapter. I haven't ever seen any Bluetooth PCIe cards, but I also haven't been looking.
Oh shit man that's probbly it.
One receiver multiple controllers for games like Rocket League (for example) and bluetooth dongle for one controller.
Thanks

Yes, Windows 10 - Amazon $24.99
I tend to remove the battery when I connect through usb out of habit.

The wireless adapter works down to Windows 7, so you can buy that if you don't want to play wired. To use the Xbox app and set up custom profiles, I believe you have to have Windows 10, yes.
Pretty sure Xbox controllers don't use Bluetooth. Something about how they need more bandwidth for reliable input... It's a proprietary technology and you need a specific wireless adapter for it.
Edit: Or this receiver for 360 controllers.
Welcome to the PCMR where its plug and play with any input! And if you want it wireless check this out
Just by the Xbox dongle.
You just need one of these for the wireless controller.
This is what you're looking for. I wouldn't play GTA without it, gotta have full throttle control and the ability to launch RWD vehicles.
You need an adapter but yes it'll work with PC games that the developers have designed the game for it to work with.
I don't mean to poke a hole in your plan or freak you out, but I have yet to see someone successfully connect an Xbox One controller to a PC without using the Microsoft USB Dongle for it.
If you know that you can make that work, then more power to you, but I'm unaware of any other way of connecting a wireless controller.
Of course, you could always wire it in the short term if you have a long phone charging cord or something, but it's your worst case scenario. Good luck, and do enjoy the building process, you really only get to do it once :)
I like this answer best so far- I have a wireless xbone controller that I've hardly used. I tried plugging it in to USB just now, but it seems I need a receiver like this. At $20-ish it's probably my best bet.
Many adapters now exist to match nearly Any controllers you already have to ANY Windows- based PC. Amazon stocks tons, this should save on buying all new ones. Link to Xbone dongle for reference..

different dongle needed: this
unless it supports bluetooth, like this one does, then it can be handled natively.
but from what I can tell, it doesn't.
I have xbox controller for PC and it comes with USB stick that helps you connect the controller. The pairing works perfectly and so far i haven't found a single game from steam that don't works.
I have this one here:

Is the One S controller different than just the One? This dongle works great for me. I don't have an Xbox, I just bought the Xbox one controller and this dongle. Not a bluetooth dongle though, it's dedicated to the controller, but can run up to 8 of them.
You can also buy wirelees dongle for 24 bucks:

I think you need a special wireless receiver
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ to connect them to a PC, it cost $24 or $17 used, not sure if it works on Linux though.
Thank you

Usually the controller has to take some time to automatically download the drivers which you can see in the bottom right of task bar. If that isn't the case, see if it works in other games. As for wireless adapters, I use this: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1500398839&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+wireless+adapter
You can buy the dongle by itself
this one is pretty good
> What controllers can be used with a PC?
Just about anything you want, with varying requirements as far as additional hardware/software beyond the controller.
Wired Xbox 360/Xbox One controllers plugged in via a USB cable will work by just plugging them right in, drivers should install and you should be good to go.
Wireless 360 controllers, or if you want to use an Xbox One controller wirelessly both need special dongles (360 dongle, Xbox One dongle), unless you get the Xbox One S controller which can connect via bluetooth.
PS3/PS4 controllers can work with either a USB cable or a bluetooth dongle, either way you'll need some additional software. Just Google "ps3/ps4 controller windows" and you'll find plenty of guides.
Similarly you can even use Wiimotes, Wii U Pro Controllers, and Switch Joycons, these also need software to be installed.
There's also the Steam controller which gives a very different experience to other controllers.
>Which one should I actually get?
I'd say just get whichever you find most comfortable to use, they've pretty much all got the same feature set so you shouldn't have any major issues.
>How do I know if a game is compatible with my controller?
If the game is on Steam, just look for the full or partial controller support icons on the store page. Otherwise, search for the game on the PC Gaming Wiki and look for controller support under "Input settings".
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549841081&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=xbox+one+pc+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=315blmbBN6L&ref=plSrch
The Xbox One Media Remote works beautifully for Kodi when paired with Flirc. It's what I'm using right now. Flirc is a little receiver that allows you to use any remote with your PC, so depending on how much money you feel like spending on your setup, you could get by with just a flirc and a remote you already own. Read more about it here (it has a built-in Kodi profile for Kodi-specific buttons). I've set mine up so every button on the remote is used: Xbox button for Home, view (top left) is mapped to tab (so it'll bring up/dismiss the Kodi interface while a video is playing),
menu (top right) is mapped to info, the OneGuide button to toggle subtitles, up/down pill to scroll to top/bottom of list, and the rest as they are labeled. It feels quite natural with the symbols matching up with the Kodi functions.
To control Windows with any controller you like (Xbox 360/Xbox One/any Xinput controller - so maybe even a DualShock depending on how you set it up), use this app called Controller Companion. It's an inexpensive little utility that makes navigating all aspects of the Windows interface a breeze. Has neat text input, so anything that requires a mouse and keyboard can be handled with this. I'm using it with my Xbox One controller + wireless receiver. I tried Xpadder before, but this felt more sophisticated. It optionally launches with Windows and disables itself when you enter a fullscreen game so you can play the game with the controller, taking over again when you're back at the desktop (can be overridden, also has customisable shortcuts). Supports Steam Big Picture and lets you launch it by pressing the Xbox Guide button.
Otherwise, +1 to that Logitech Harmony j4nds4 mentioned if you're looking for a more traditional remote, that's come up in the research I did too.
You mentioned PinMore for custom tiles. I use it, it's great, but it doesn't support regular apps. I haven't tested it yet but it looks like TileCreator can do that. Lastly if you want to get a little adventurous, check out EventGhost. Came across it a long time ago in the context of remotes but I use it for other things now (directory watcher). You may find it useful for your HTPC.

Unlike a Windows based PC, the Xbox One really has no "plug and play" capabilities. (Even with their own hardware.) Sure a lot of Plug and play devices work, but just not the ones made by Micro$oft.
Resync should help. If not try unplugging the dongle from your PC so it is not sending/receiving any signals to the controller.

Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows
If it is this one, then yes. Otherwise, use a microUSB cable.
get yourself one of these fam
I'm looking to purchase one, so is this the correct adapter?
I have a Steam Controller and an Xbox 360 controller. My girlfriend and I played though Lego Marvel Superheroes, the Lego Harry Potters and some of Jurassic World with two different controllers. So if you want to mix and match, you're totally able to.
If you have any controllers laying around, see if you can find an adapter for them.
I use one that came with a cheap phone to connect it to my Xbox One and it works fine. Any micro USB cable should work if it isn't defective.
I think the "dongle" people are talking about is to enable wireless connectivity between your controller and your PC.
This one: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU
Here are the setup instructions: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/accessories/xbox-wireless-adapter-for-windows-setup
I've got an XBone controller (but no XBone, go figure) exclusively for playing multiplats on PC already, so I can answer this:
The XBone controller does not have any wired options like 360's did, or at least not that I know of. Makes no sense to me, but w/e. The user has two means of interfacing with the computer -- a standard USB-to-MicroUSB cable, or a wireless dongle like 360 wireless controllers had. Unlike PS controllers, it does NOT have bluetooth... output? Connectivity? Whatever the word is. Its RF is some proprietary crap that NEEDS the dongle that MS is all too willing to sell for even more overhead.
Anyways, I'd like to believe the Rift ships with controller+dongle for VR's sake, but I'd not be surprised if you were expected to use the cable, as an as-packaged stock XBone controller only ships with a (really shitty-quality) USB-mUSB cable. Absolute worst case scenario, if this is the case, is to get the wireless dongle for 25 bucks off Amazon or something.
Not really hard to find, just [expensive] (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU). Really, Microsoft should have just made the controllers use bluetooth like the Wii controllers. I guess they wouldn't be able to get more $$$ off the pc gaming market that way though.
Is that the only way to fix the micro-USB? Buying one of those?
Because it would be cheaper and more time saving for me to just buy the Wireless PC Adapter since I have two controllers with this issue I'd like to fix.
For my Xbox I bought a Niko Charging Kit that plugs directly into a micro-USB in the battery rather than use the Xbox One controller. The only reason I would like to fix my controller is so I can use it on PC because the Niko port doesn't turn the controller into a wired controller like the actual built-in controller port does, it only charges the battery. So if I want to play with this controller on PC I will need to either fix the USB port or buy a wireless adapter.
The xbox one has it's own usb dongle separate from the 360 one. I have been using this one since I came back that came out late last year and it has been great.
These games all do an excellent job of split screen and are hella fun to play couch co-op. XBox One controllers are highly recommended for all of these PC games.
I'll assume you're using an Xbox ONE controller. First, you need to know if you have a new or old one. The new one has Bluetooth, while the old one doesn't. See this link.
https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/5fr7r1/easy_way_to_tell_if_a_controller_supports/
If you have a new Bluetooth controller, and your PC has Bluetooth connectivity, then you should be able to pair up with normal procedures. If you don't have Bluetooth connectivity, then you'll need an adapter. This one is cheap but there are a bunch of brands you can use.
If you have an old controller, you'll probably need this.
Hope this helps!
360 controllers have an adpater from Microsoft that would allow for wireless (not sold by MS/Amazon/Newegg anymore, only really sold by sketchy ebay sellers). All Xbox One controllers can use this adapter. If you have Xbox One S controllers they are compatible with Bluetooth adapters.
Although the portability argument still kills the TV usage, unless you routed a really long hdmi cable through the wall which doesn't seem worth it tbh.
What controller? Xbox?
I tried one of my Xbox controller and while I can sync it via Bluetooth it makes game crash. And since you can find this on Amazon I'm thinking that the crashes I'm getting are "normal".
Controller works perfectly when using a USB cable though.
I don't know if that helps...

The 6600K does not actually come with its own CPU cooler, so you'll need to grab one of your own either way. The thermal paste that comes with the third-party cooler is usually just fine. Make sure the cooler fits inside your case, though.
>Any advantage/disadvantage to 1x8 vs. 2x4?
In terms of performance, not really.
The Sandisk drive will probably be just fine. Your PSU is due for replacement -- I'd recommend EVGA, XFX, or Seasonic. It's worth it to pay a little extra. Get something that's at least Bronze rated. You have until July 29th to do the Windows 10 upgrade. You don't need additional fans.
As for gamepads, Windows works very well with the Xbox One and Xbox 360 controllers. You can use the XB1 controller wirelessly if you get a PC adapter. Otherwise it works via a bundled micro-USB cable. The XB1 can use regular batteries, or you can get the Play and Charge kit. The P&C battery recharges by plugging the gamepad in with the battery installed. You can get the gamepad with the P&C kit bundled in. By default, the XB1 controller comes with two non-rechargeable batteries.
Eneloop batteries are regarded as some the best around. The Pros have a much higher capacity than the battery in the P&C kit. About 2,500 mAh versus 1,600.

Yes, you can also go wireless if you have an adapter with any Xbox One controller, regardless of model.

I prefer PC over console. I have a ps4 but usually used for crunchyroll and the occasional Resident Evil binge. Tailored towards more single player games like Uncharted but Pc has a lot better games like Rust, Overwatch (better on PC than consoles), and many PC games get patches first compared to consoles. For example Overwatch and Diablo 3.

For the controllers, Xbox controllers will work the best with games on windows in my experience. You have a few options for connecting them.
I'd get both the WiFi adapter if you need it, and the wireless adapter for the controllers since I don't love Bluetooth as a connection (it's easily blocked and interrupted)
if you want to save money never visit r/sffpc or r/mechanicalkeyboards I probably shouldn't have even linked them...

Planning to get this internal USB header to use on my unused USB 9-pin motherboard connections. I'm planning to use it to connect my Xbox controller wireless adapters (I have one for my Xbone controller and one for my 360 controllers) in a more semi-permanent fashion, where they won't just be hanging around and so I won't have to reconnect them every time I move the computer.
Now to my main question: if I mount the adapters internally, taping them to the side of the case so they won't move around, will the metal case interfere with the wireless signal that the controllers use to connect to the adapter? Or will I have to run the adapter cables out through a hole in the case and tape them to the outside??
Here ya go.

If I recall there was an issue even on Windows 10 where you could only hook up 1 XBox One controller, then they patched it to where you can hook up 2. Perhaps Shield has the same limit.
You tried this receiver?

It says:
>Supports up to 8 wireless controllers, plus up to 4 chat headsets or 2 stereo headsets.
Yeah so I found out that Microsoft sells this additional adapter for $24, here is a link. It allows high throughput essentially and firmware updates, but I'm just going to stick with it plugged in. I also found a 10 ft micro USB cable on Amazon for like $6-8, so that'll be plenty.
If you have any issues you can buy a PC adapter ($24) and the vibration works regardless of when you turn it on. I was using the controller that came with my Xbox One so I needed the adapter. I just recently got an S controller so I could use that controller for my Xbox and just continue to use the dongle and it works perfectly.
In case anyone is genuinely interested, Xbox controllers are plug-n-play for Windows via USB. For wireless connectivity you need this thing.
Playstation controllers are a bit tricky cause you basically need to make your computer think it's a Xbox controller. Guide here.
Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows > Generic Bluetooth Adapter
You need an [ADAPTOR] (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU) to use a controller on pc wirelessly. or you can use a micro usb cable natively.
I use a wireless Xbone controller
You'll need a special receiver for that.

They have bluetooth, so if Steam Link has that (I'm not sure if it does) it will pair right up. However, if not, you could always get this and plug it in, and that should also do the job I believe.
You need a special adapter to use the XBox One controller wirelessly on PC. I'd imagine you'd need the same adapter for Steam link.
