(Part 3) Reddit mentions: The best office products

I was 36 before i was diagnosed. Here are a few things that worked for me - they may or may not work for you.

When I was 25 I had over 15k in credit card debt, 60k in student loans, had flunked out of college and my credit score was 455.

I now have now have less than 1k in credit card debt (school costs, going back to school) an Associates degree in cooking, and a credit score of over 790.

To be fair, I had a lot of great help from my family. But even with great help, you can't get that far without changing things about yourself.


SO Some of the things:

First: remember: every task is made up of a ton of little steps. Stop thinking it has to be done all at once, and instead think of the next step. To quote the Stormlight Archive: 'The Most important step a man can take is the next one' - So i will write this advice in small, easy to digest steps.

1) I closed all my credit cards. You can close them without paying them off.

Even now I only have 2 credit cards, one is joint with my mother, the other joint with my wife. I am not responsible enough without oversight. You want to close them so you -cant- use them. Draconian steps are sometimes needed. And no 'For Emergency' cards unless you keep that card with your parents or a very trusted close friend. Otherwise everything is an emergency.

2) I signed up for debt management If you can, try and do it through your bank, its more reputable, but if they dont offer it you'll need to do a bit of research to find the best one (remember. Small steps)

3) Mint.Com I used Mint to set up a budget for myself. Its a lot like the person explained at Simple, except 3rd party and can be set up with pretty much any bank. It allows you to set categories and see exactly how much you've spent.

4) Start a Bullet Journal Don't go into this thinking its something complicated. (i would completely ignore all the bullet journal videos and subs other than the one that started it ) This is literally all you need: a small pocket sized notebook, and a pen.

Take that notebook with you everywhere. Put it with your watch and your phone and your wallet and take it everywhere.

You can look up the official way to do it if you want, but all you need in it is a way to keep yourself on track. I recommend a habit tracker: make a little grid. One one axis put the day of the week, on the other put what you want to do: Brush teeth. Check Mint. Deodorant. Take Meds. - each day you do the thing, fill in that box. You'll see a nice visual representation of your habits and it will help to form them. Keep them simple. Don't fret if you miss a day, but use it as a reason not to miss the next day. Make it things you want to do for the rest of your life - not short term goals (like Learn C#)

If you want to add a daily to do list in there, then go ahead - just remember to keep the ToDo's simple, easy, and less than 5 a day for now. Time Management is one of our problems - don't overwhelm yourself by adding more than you can do and then feeling bad because you didn't do them./

5) Start a Routine - Every night before I go to bed I put my wallet, Bullet Journal, Watch, Keys, and Fidget cube in the same spot on my desk. I put my phone by my bed, charging, and my glasses next to that. Every morning i wake up, put them all in my pockets, and they stay there all day. Even my car keys. This is part of my routine.

It did not start this big. it started with remembering to put my keys on the hook. Every day. Keys on the hook. Find them somewhere else? Keys go on the hook. After I got that down, I moved on to add another task for a month or two. Then another. Small steps, remember?

Its taken me 10 years to build the routine I have, and I'm still building it. The last 2 months have been getting brushing teeth into it. I've gotten pretty good at it, but its still in my habit tracker. Again, small things. Small steps. In a month or two I'm going to try adding 'washing face daily' since I have light minor acne, but know I can't add it yet or I'll get overwhelmed.

6) If you want to learn a skill, see if you can sign up for a class The structure and routine of class can help a lot. It is a lot different to try and learn C# in a classroom, where you have homework and due dates that keep rolling, then trying to self motivate yourself to learn it. Sure I could, if the Hyperfocus hits. But it wont, and its not reliable when it does, and it wont last long enough to -really- learn everything.

7) Meds You said your meds don't work quite right and leave you unmotivated - have you tried others? I don't know what the procedure is in Canada, but mind/mood drugs affect everyone differently, and sometimes you need to find the right one, right does.



Through it all, Remember: Small Steps

The tasks seem so big and giant and thats why we never do them. I have felt that way about my book I want to write (like you do about your Port) and its taken 3 years, but I'm through 2/3rd of it.

The tasks don't have to be done tomorrow. yes, we want it done tomorrow, but teaching yourself - slowly, but resolutely - that you will still have time even if it takes you years to do it - is an important skill.

As is breaking things up into much smaller tasks




Here, as a parting gift, some thoughts about learning C# (or C+ if you wish)

1. Download an editor (if you go with C#, Microsoft Visual Studio is -amazing- and really one of the best platforms for coding C#)
   
   a) Learn how to write Hello World to print to a screen. Done that? Now walk away. Put it away. You have to learn how to do things without the help of Hyperfocus and that sometimes means walking away even if you don't want to.
   
   b) The next day, learn how to ask for a number, and print it back. Done? Now walk away again.
   
   c) the third day, learn how to take that number, put it through a calculation (Number+5-3*6/4 or something) and print that new number out. Now walk away.
   
   d) Fourth day: Learn how to use an If/Else statement - If the number entered is >5, print True, else print false. Now walk away
   
   e) Fifth day: learn how to use a loop: Take a number, and add 2 to it X times (where X is the second number taken).
   
   
   Congratulations. Those 5 things (Write lines, take in new lines, and perform calculations. if/else statements, Loops) are 95% of coding. EVERYTHING done in coding is made up of those. (sure there are more advanced concepts like Classes and Methods and Exceptions and Recursion ... but they are all made up of those 5 things)
   
   
   Finally, You CAN turn this around and do better It is not easy. But it is possible. What works for you may not be the exact as above, but it is possible to find it. No body told me what to do, these are all things I came up with for myself, over time, over experimentation. it wasn't even conscious thought of 'lets try this now' it was just ... hey this seems to work, i'll keep it. Meds can help. I certainly don't say no to meds to help. But meds are just a tool, and you need to do stuff with those meds too.
   
   And remember: There is a lot of world ahead of you. There is a lot of time to get things done. If it takes you a few years longer than everyone else, thats ok. Its your journey. The next step. Just take one small, tiny individual step. Then the next one.

One 8GB is for Hirens Boot CD, and the last one doesnt work and i'm too much of a lazy ass to take it off. Plus it looks cool.

Feild Notes I think everyone on EDC has one of these. Super handy. Above it is my handy Pilot G2, my personal favorite pen. Ive been using that one for about a year and it shows it with all the chew marks at the top.

iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit Probably the best toolkit for computer repair, has literally every single screwdriver tip imaginable, plus some really handy tools for things like phone and tablet repair

2016 Razer Blade A wonderful gaming laptop, that can actually be used in the real world. Is very thin and light considering what's on the inside. Holds a 5ish hour battery life, so I'm not tethered to a wall all the time.

Steam Controller Wonderful for Gaming on the Go. It's a very good controller for PC Gaming, but only for certain people. First person shooters would totally suck on this controller (but then again they suck on every controller), but works very nicely for the games I play.

Logitech MX Master Probably the nicest mouse I have ever used in my life. Fits super well in my rather large hands, and the thumbrest button, speed adaptive scroll wheel, and horizontal scroll in addition to wonderful tracking and bluetooth support make it my favorite mouse of all time.


Cable Matters Thunderbolt Dock Very handy for a laptop that doesnt have Ethernet or VGA output, and an Extra USB port never hurt anyone either.

USB 3 & Micro USB OTG, SD Card and Micro SD card Adapter. Can plug into either standard USB or Micro USB, works as an adapter for a Micro SD or an SD Card. Also useful for a computer that doesnt have an SD card slot.

Microfiber cloth. The Razer Blade is a fingerprint magnet, so this comes in handy quite often.

Three 5-gallon buckets and one lid (Ace Hardware has white ones for $4, if you don't want orange or blue from HD or Lowe's.) All three cost $12-13.

THIS POWER SUPPLY, the Supernight LED Charger. It is $20.99. You will also need a power cord for it, which I recommend just going to literally ANY thrift store and picking out a nice three-pronged power cord. I'm fairly certain that any three-pronged power cord will work, so if you have one you're not using at home, you can use that.

THIS LED GROW LIGHT, which is 300w and cost $50.99.

TWO of these PC fans. Total cost $10.04.

I bought one of this black duct tape, one of this foil tape (although I recommend buying two, as I ran out with my first roll and had to buy another from the store), and also some double-sided tape, because, if your LED strip is like mine, the adhesive backing is almost nonexistent and the tape becomes necessary.

Oh, and good-quality velcro adhesive patches!

You will also need a power drill and a sturdy box cutter.



I started by taping the entire interior of one bucket with the foil tape, save for the bottom portion where the soil goes. Then I covered the outside with the black tape. Next I drilled holes in the bottom for drainage.

Then I took two of the other buckets and used a ruler's width to mark a cut line right below the lip of each bucket to create spacers. The process of cutting the plastic buckets was definitely the worst part of the process, especially since I didn't have a great cutter, so if you're getting a new one, don't be too cheap. I got this one and it's blade locking function no longer works after this project, so be advised. I lined the spacers with foil tape.

Using the remains of one of the other buckets, I trimmed more of the bucket down so that it's now only the bottom and stands 5" tall. I found some random large screws in my toolbox and drilled them around the circumference, which allows the rest of the bucket to be easily lifted off of the drain pan.

I then drew a circle about 1 cm in from the lip of the lid and cut that out. The light fits perfectly on it. There is lots of light escape at the rim, but it looks pretty cool, so I don't mind it for now.

For the power supply, I cut off the female end of the three-pronged cord I got from Arc Thrift and stripped the wires down a bit. There were three wires inside, green (ground), white (neutral), and black (live), which I then connected to driver. I was certain to unplug during any wire-play and I hope everyone else is, too.

The sidelights were sort of a struggle. I used a scrap of the buckets, like maybe 4-5 inches of bucket from about half-way down to a quarter, so not much. I then lined the inside with the double-sided tape, cutting strips, in an effort to conserve tape, which feels very stable. I drilled a hole and fed the cable through, then determined the best spot to drill a hole on the exterior bucket. It's about at the center of the bucket, or in my case, 13 cm down from the lip. Finally, I fed the LED cable through the exterior hole and the lights were basically in place, where it would sit right above the soil.

I didn't want to have to extend any cords, so I found an ideal spot to place the driver on the exterior so that all cables (LED strip, both fans) could reach their appropriate ports. I fixed the velcro onto the bucket and the driver and tidied the wires with some more duct tape.

Finally, I sealed the edges of both fans, inside and outside, with their respective tapes.


I'm pretty sure that's everything I've done to this point, but if I think of anything else, I'll add it. I'm likely going to black-out the spacers to reduce light leak.

Since you didn't say, I'm going to assume you're a palm gripper...and just in case (since some people get it mixed up), low sens = using a lot of mouse movement to turn around, whereas high sens = just needs a few inches to do a 360.

Mice:

• Razer Deathadder 2013 ($57): I haven't seen anything negative about this mouse's sensor, only praise...I'm assuming it's another Deathadder with a flawless sensor. You can't beat the Deathadder in design/ergonomics if you're a palm gripper - it has . Downside is having to use Synapse 2.0 drivers which I have heard are a pain in the ass...haven't used them myself though. Also, I feel that the braided cable is a downside too since it is much heavier and rigid than non-braided.
  
  
• Zowie EC1 eVo ($62): (Just got mine yesterday, I've used the Mamba (wireless Deathadder) for quite a while before this) Huge mouse feet for dat glide, non-braided cable, mouse is so freaking light that it feels wireless (especially with a cable bungee), absolutely no drivers - you just hold down certain buttons while plugging in the USB if you want to change settings. Flawless sensor and great for low sens gaming due to its lightness and optical sensor. Oh yeah, and it comes with a spare pair of mice feet, how can ya not love that?
  
  A wireless Mamba is gunna set you back $105 for the mouse alone, so I don't suggest that, even though this mouse has served me well.
  
  Keyboards:
  
  At that price ($110) for that Cooler Master board, it's just not worth it. Leopold is a better choice at that price range. Don't get me wrong, CM makes good stuff, but their niche is in the sub $70 range...that's when they are really good buys, but you'd have to wait for a sale, and who knows when the next one would be.
  
  
• Leopold: Mechanical keyboards are absolutely worth it and these guys make some of the best keyboards on the market (in our price range). You're going to have to decide what switches you want though. I went with red, they are incredibly light, but if I got to choose again I'd probably go with blacks (they are a little heavier to press). It all depends on what you mostly do...gaming or typing? If you type more than game then you'd probably be better off with browns or blues. These things are built like tanks though, really sturdy and heavy, also it's nice that there is a groove to route the cable to the left or right on the back, if you need that. This keyboard will literally last you forever.

• SteelSeries Qck Heavy ($21) or Qck+ ($17): The most popular low-sens mousepads around. The Heavy has a 6mm thickness and is good if your desk has an uneven surface. The Qck+ is just a skinny version of the same thing at 2mm thickness. I have a Qck+ but looking to buy a Heavy just because I want something thicker; the Qck+ does its job very well though. Btw, the Zowie glides amazingly on this pad.
  
  
• Xtrac Ripper XXL ($30): If you want something ungodly in size so that you can put your keyboard and mouse on it, then look no further than this desk pad.
  
  I don't know how you feel about cable drag, but it makes me want to do terrible things to innocent creatures. I mentioned earlier that I am using a mouse bungee ($17) from Razer and it works well enough. The Zowie's cable is a bit too thick to fit in the last clip closest to the base, but it fits in the other two just fine and does its job of no-drag. But, if you've got enough space for the cable to stretch out...Zowie's cable is so light that you might not feel it anyway.
  
  I went as close to the budget as I could/went over it a bit (depending on what you choose). If you're going to be dropping this much money on peripherals then you might as well get the best that will last you for years to come.

LAASR is right... but, if you gotta a job and you gotta get it done you have to start somewhere now, no time for years of experience. I have been there and here is my suggestion.

Look at some great casual script fonts. Start typing out the words you need, do your kerning, spacing, sizing your capitols up a bit, give yourself a nice start. Now print out a ton of what you have in a very light gray. Buy some fun brush pens and mark over what you have produced. Practice line quality make each letter unique. Now save a few of the pages you like scan them in and use pieces from each sketch that you like and Frankenstein something together. You may need to go through the same steps again. Once you have something you really like take it into illustrator, trace it and clean up the vector.

People love a hand drawn feel, and short of becoming the master of a handful of styles I have used this technique with a fair amount of success.

1. I used to go camping a few hours north by this pretty river with my family every summer. I really loved it. I loved swimming in natural bodies of water (it's just so different then swimming in a pool) and I was the type of kid that never wanted to get out of the water. I also loved looking up and seeing the stars every night. I adore camping but I haven't been in the longest time. Now that I'm an adult, I've been talking with some friends about taking a camping trip to Yosemite and I really hope we can manage to make it happen, I've never been to Yosemite and I think it would be a lot of fun.
   
   
2. I don't have anything great. Though camping makes me think of smores, and what do you need to make smores? CHOCOLATE OF COURSE. Also I think something about writing in a notebook or on paper instead of a computer is really nice. 3. If I didn't have a load of work to catch up on I'd be taking a hike right now :(, but this summer I hope for lots of outdoor time. And I hope you have a wonderful trip with your family :)

So I'm just starting out - like haven't started yet. I'm going to try and sell some of my old stuff first to see how this goes. I'll be moving accross the country in the next year, so this coincides with me wanting to get rid of things so I don't have to pay to move it. If I like it though, I'll buy more stuff to sell when I get to my new location. However, the logistics of packing and shipping is really confusing.

Here are my questions:

1. Is Amazon strictly for high frequency sellers, or could people like me, who are just trying to sell off old stuff - also use the platform? Not many things I'm selling will have original boxes etc. As of right now, I'm leaning more towards eBay and Craigslist. However, I'm not near a big city right now so I'm not too confident in Craigslist.
   
   
2. What type of package scale do I buy? The things I'll be buying range in sizes. I've seen people link little scales like this. I'm not concerned about how much weight it can measure, more that it's too small to efficiently weigh bulkier packages and items. For instance, I have some bulky coats that I plan to sell. I can't imagine that little scale will be able to weigh that.
   
   
3. Is it better to explicitly charge shipping or to increase the price of the item and sell it with "free shipping?"
   
   
4. The logistics of how much to charge for shipping (or account for shipping in your price) is completely lost on me. Like, I'm supposed to weigh the item fully packed - but if someone orders more than one thing, I'd have to re-calculate weight or re-pack it entirely. Also, with shipping services like First Class, they charge more depending on how far it's going. So how am I suppose to list a price if it completely depends on who buys it? Similarly, it might make sense to ship it priority mail flat rate. So like, am I supposed to just throw out that perfectly good packaging material every time I decide to use a flat rate envelope/box instead?
   
   
5. Which packaging material am I suppose to buy? I have zero experience shipping anything that isn't a prepaid return item in its original box. No idea which boxes will fit which things. I've heard to use poly-mailers for non-bulky clothing. And to use cushioned-envelope mailers for small things. But which sizes? Is it better to buy an assortment of different things and just hope I have things that use them all - or to just go big and pay for the extra postage?
   
   
6. Is it better to pay for postage online or to do in the post-office? Should I do it through ebay (ebay seller portal) What happens if I unintentionally underestimate how much it weighs when buying postage online? Is it returned to me? Do I get billed? Is the customer billed?
   
   
7. Which shipping options should I always include? When should I require a signature? Should I always get a tracking number?
   
   
8. I don't understand how many ebay sellers are able to turn a profit for things. For example, I see many people selling things on ebay for less than a $1 with free shipping. Wouldn't the cost to ship that item cost more than that though?
   
   
9. I have an ebay account that uses my real name. I've never sold anything on it - I just use it to buy things. It's about 9 years old. Should I create a new account if I plan to sell things? I notice that most sellers have a name for their ebay business

A little late to the game, but I have a couple of cents on this topic as well. I own Tombows, the Faber Castell's mentioned below, as well as Pentel Sign Touch Pens, and Kuretake Fudes. I think a lot of the commenters hit the nail on the head re: Tombows. They can be tough to use and hard to control transitions from thick to thin lines. In my experience, this has less to do with the flexibility of the nib and more about the type of head the pen uses. Tombows have a pretty large fiber brush head, and it's not as "springy" as some other pens. This means when you let back on the pressure, you have to really gauge how much pressure you need to reduce to get a thinner line. A lot of pens with a smaller head, especially felt tipped pens, will be a lot more forgiving in terms of pressure variation.

If you do want to get some smaller pens, the FC are decent. They have fantastic color transfer, but I feel like they're scratchier than some of the other options that I have, and also a tad bit more expensive. I really like the Pentel Fude Touch Sign Pens. The head is a tiny bit smaller than the FC pens, so you won't be able to get quite as thick of a downstroke. If you want something more comparable in size to the FCs, Kuretake Fudebiyoris are pretty similar and also writes a bit smoother.

That said, I think it also depends on what you're going for. If you want consistent lettering early on, a felt tip pen with a smaller nib is your best bet. However, because they're so much easier to control, I find that if I use those exclusively for a while, the quality of my lettering deteriorates. Tombows force you to really learn to control your pressure. If your goal is to perfect lettering with all types of pens (felt, brush, watercolor, etc) and with all sorts of nib sizes, I think using Tombows to practice with is the best option.

I assume you have not used hand tools much.

The first thing I would learn how to do and invest in is how to get your tools sharp, like really sharp. I mean shiny flat back and edge razor sharp. Without really sharp tools - hand joinery is not fun and much harder than it needs to be.

There is the scary sharp method, I am sure u/Peniceiling's suggestion works great, I use Shapton Stones, there are as many ways to sharpen as there are woodworkers.

But you will need to research and invest time in some way of sharpening and get good at it.

A simple Honing Guide can make things easier when you start.

This Small Rip Dozuki B. was recommended by the instructor I had for a hand joinery class last year as the best bang for the buck they knew of - I found it works great.

I'd get a 1/2in Chisel. When you get the chisel, it will not be sharp. You will have to spend time tuning it up.

I personally prefer a round marking gauge. This has to be sharpened just like your chisel so it cuts the wood fibers evenly and cleanly.

A good quality double square is invaluable. Best $ value I have found for one of these is here.

A 2.0mm lead holder with sharpener is very helpful. Lets you mark into areas a regular pencil will not fit.

That would be everything I can think of to do all half blind and through dovetails, finger-joints etc.

A drill(press) and a couple more chisels sizes will get you mortise and tenons with standard 4/4 6/4 and 8/4 stock.

Part 2/7: Accessories

• Headphones. Git gud ones. Even if you don't use them for music or movies or anything, they can help you isolate yourself from the busy ongoings of the an airport. Airports are found to some of the most stressful places in the world, so even just sitting there you'll absorb some of the stress. Solution: isolate yourself as much as you can... put on those Bose QC25s, turn on the sound cancelling and enjoy the quiet. Or the music.
  
  
  
• Comfy shoes. I carry a pair of Toms with me, which I use as slippers around the hotel room and after getting onto a flight (like long ones. I don't even get up on flights under 45 minutes, but 12 hour red-eyes, slippers are nice).
  
  
  
• I also carry a good set of PJs or sweatpants, and change on flights 6+ hours in duration. Just more comfy than sleeping in your suit. Sometimes I get weird looks, but most people say it's not a terrible idea. At least I'm comfortable.
  
  
  
• I do not carry many toiletries with me, if I can avoid it. I try to buy it at my destination if I can't stand the hotel brand. Personal favorite is Rose31 by Le Laboavailable at Fairmont properties. The scent might be too much for some people, but I really like it. Extra glasses, contact lenses, solution, etc. Research your destination to determine if you will need your allergy medications. Combs and brushes, depending on what you need. I have a Dollar Shave Club subscription, and been very happy about it. As mentioned, I don't carry toiletries if I can avoid it, but I do carry a moisturizer. I've been known to abuse my Amazon prime to order toiletries to the hotel, usually the sample sizes that will last me one week.

No, I don't care that it cost you more than your fiancees engagement ring. Good for you. I'd like to chime in here because I am in the exact same position as you, wanting a note-taking device for college (grad school in my case).

I got the Chromebook Plus Version 1 because of the following:
-form factor - it's basically the size of a regular notepad, so really great for notetaking (I use Squid)
-ability to use linux apps (not that I have, but that I could)

I really like it, and have had a lot of comments about my setup. I got the Staedtler Noris Digital Pencil for handwriting notes - this is an amazing improvement over the built in stylus, which isn't bad to begin with.

I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard, but the CBP might be better. I find it cramped, but am getting used to it.

The surface is soft and marks/scratches. Not sure if that matters to you.

Your biggest challenge will be to find the right combination of apps to make a workflow that is good for you. I work mostly in squid, where I can import pdfs to mark up, and also do handwritten notes on lined "paper", or other types of "paper" markings. Some people choose to send squid documents to Evernote so that they can be OCR'd and thus searchable, but I have found this workflow to be cumbersome. I'm still trying to get the right workflow myself and welcome anyone else's suggestions.

I used a chromebook all the way through my MBA as my exclusive computer. When I did my MS in Data analytics I needed to install specific software on a Windows laptop. Now, in a PhD program, I can do most of my work on my Chromebook which is nice and portable, but I still need my Windows laptop for specific software.

I hope this helps somewhat. If you have the opportunity, get some hands-on time with the device to make sure that it works for you. With using it in tablet mode for note taking especially - the form factor will matter (not too big, not too narrow...)

For me it was finding a type of notebook that worked for me. I tried a Leuchtturm type notebook and didn't like it (unpopular opinion, it seems) because I'm a bit of a perfectionist and not being able to remove pages cleanly bothered me. Also as a lefty it wasn't the most comfortable.

Then I tried a spiral-bound notebook from Muji and the paper was great and I enjoyed it for awhile but it still wasn't quite flexible enough for me.

Eventually I found out about the discbound system and fell in love with it. Super customizable and flexible. Pages can be easily removed and reordered. You can also take the pages out if you want to write without the discs getting in the way. I love it. I also am able to put in dividers to make different sections for even more organization which is a huge plus for me. I use the cover from the Martha Stewart collection and then have a discbound punch that I use to punch sheets out of this notepad from Rhodia. It works perfectly for me and keeps me motivated because it fits all of my preferences.

Cheap and good: Staedtler 925: 3-pack of 0.3mm, 0.5mm, and 0.7mm for $20. Individually sold at art/stationary stores for $5-$10 each.

The metal version by Pentel: GraphGear 500: 4-pack of 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm and 0.9mm for $20. Individually sold at stores for $10-$20 each. They're okay, and people like the metal look, but I prefer the Staedtler.

The good stuff: rOtring. rOtring 600: $23. rOtring 800: $50.

I haven't tried the rOtring pencils myself; I've heard they're good, but I've been pretty happy with the Staedtlers. Although they're the cheapest I mentioned, they're also very comfortable and reliable. I've never had one fail (I have had Pentel pencils fail, including but not limited to the ones I linked), and I've been using them for years.

Make sure you get a decent mechanical eraser to go with them. A Tombow MONO zero in an amazing eraser for the details, and a Sanford Paper Mate Tuff Stuff is good for everything else. Buy an extra pack of the refills and you're good for a while. Note: Do not buy the Sanford eraser for more than $5. The price on Amazon right now is ridiculous. The Tombow is a little more pricy; $5-$10 is fair for it.

Rhodia pads: Most people will mention these. Extremely smooth, very fountain pen friendly. So smooth, however, that inks like Noodler's Black that are formulated for crappy paper take forever to dry on it. They also come in books. Most people get used to the dots and never go back.

Clairefontaine: I'm not familiar but people mention them a lot and they seem like a very economical choice. I think they're more popular in Europe as school notebooks.

Midori: The Japanese don't mess around when it comes to writing. While basically naked compared to Leuchtturm or Moleskine, these have buttery smooth paper that while thin, feels fantastic to write on and doesn't bleed. There's a coveted cotton version (important because cotton is archival and good for watercolor) but I've never been able to track one down. It doesn't help that the online american outlets are poorly translated and usually don't know what they're packing since they look the same. See also: Apica

Leuchtturm 1917: A great journal or idea book, basically a Moleskine with better paper and perks. I used this as a daily journal. The pages are thin enough that you get ghosting especially with darker black inks but I write on both sides anyway.

If you're looking for a sketchbook I've spent a little too much time researching them and I think Stillman & Birn are really the one and only choice. Not only are they cheap by a price/sheet ratio but the quality is outstanding - extremely durable binding that tolerates being turned inside-out, thick paper with a variety of finishes so you can make a decision of what suits your medium. Epsilon or Gamma are the way to go for pure line ink work, though I've gotten away with light washes.

For what it's worth, I think the LT1917 has become a standard because the original Bullet Journal web page sells them under their brand.

As mentioned here, LT1917 is 80gsm, which is relatively thin and makes a lot of pens bleed through and ghost. For more information about bleeding, ghosting, and general comparison between notebooks I recommend watching Which Notebook is the Best for Bullet Journaling?! (skip to 11:00 to see the comparison chart). I prefer Scribbles That Matter which is thicker (100gsm) and feels smoother to write on. My next purchase will probably be a Midori with 120gsm or a Rhodia to try them out.

One of the core principals of Bullet Journalism is that there are no hard rules. While it comes with some guidelines, you are free to use it however you see fit. Which means that there are no predefined pages. So for the most part you are going to be drawing the layouts. And this is why a Dotted paper helps because you can use the dots to draw your own layouts. You can checkout Pinterest for inspiration. The community uses the term "spreads" to signify two-page layouts used for all sorts of things.

As for pens, many recommend the Sakura Pigma Micron for good reason. While I use them for more "serious" work, when it comes to EDC I would highly recommend the Muji 0.38mm Fine Point Gel Pens. Unlike the Microns, they are not felt tip (which is why I wouldn't use them for EDC) but very sharp ball point pen with great consistency. A lot of people swear by the Pilot G2 0.38mm Ultra Fine Point but personally I wasn't pleased with them.

Finally, regarding the things you want to track, as I mentioned earlier, you can simply define the layouts of each page and track whatever you wish. A lot of the spreads you see from the community are really intricate. You can find a variety of them from very crazy daily layouts to minimal ones. It's all up to you.

Having said that, if drawing your own layouts daily seems like a lot of work (a lot of people actually spend a few hours planning them beforehand), then you might want to consider a more traditional Planner instead. As mentioned ITT, the Nomadic Planner has good paper (125gsm), weekly and monthly pages as well as lined and blanks for notes and the rest.

There is a whole universe of things to consider (and I'm more than happy to geek out about it), but I'd say just start with whatever. Don't think about it too much. Most of the negatives are personal, so while LT1917 doesn't work for some, it might for you. You'll figure things out as you go.

I'd love to hear what other folks are using. Ideally, I'd like a case that can fit a total of 16-20 fountain pens, but hopefully with a smaller footprint. The 96-slot Global Art Leather Pencil Case is almost perfect... but they changed their design since I bought mine and they now have only one loop per slot instead of two. (I utilize both loops for smaller things, like pencil leads, wax stamps, etc.)

Welcome my friend, my only real advice is don't let it become an obsession, at the end if the day, the lead you choose has a far larger impact on your writing enjoyment. Getting that out of the way, I highly recommend the pentel kerry. It has the unique design of being a capped mechanical pencil which makes it completely pocket safe yet has a fixed sleeve so there is no tip wobble when being used. I find that for everyday use, 0.5 mm lead in grade B (which is slightly softer then the common HB (aka #2) grade) is a solid choice because it puts down a slightly darker line. I have had my Kerry for 11 years now and I had to get it repaired once due to my own fault. Pentel repaired it free of cost in one week.

I also suggest a Lamy Scribble if you prefer 0.7 mm lead size. It has a great feel to it, though is slightly thicker than the Kerry. There is something special about the scribble that just makes you want to pick it up and start writing with it. I will say that I do find lead breakage in the advance mechanism of the scribble more often than the Kerry.

Just practice writing small! I've changed my handwriting on a whim just by doing this for half a page of regular notebook paper. I used to do it all the time in high school; I could never decide if I wanted to write my lowercase A's like "a" or "α", so I'd just write whichever one I wanted my handwriting to look like repeatedly until my hand got used to the motion.

I've recently sized down my handwriting as well in a similar way. Basically I've just been using a regular college-ruled notebook and when I take my notes in class, I make a point to make sure my letters are only 1/2 of each line because it's a lot easier to read (more white space between lines makes it feel less jumbled imo).

As someone else suggested, the dotted, grid, or lined notebook might help you quite a bit. But I would still practice in another notebook first (like don't go out and buy a $20 notebook immediately) to practice in, because it's probably going to look really messy until your hand gets used to the new way of writing.

I'd also suggest using a thinner pen if you aren't already. My favorite for general note-taking is the Pilot G2 Ultra Fine Point, though the Extra Fine Point (.5mm instead of .38mm) works well too. You can also find some pretty cute pens if you look on Korean and Japanese-themed websites (like Blippo), as they have many .35mm pens for pretty cheap.

I don't user nicer paper for everyday use because frankly, I go too it too much to be constantly buying more, but I do keep a couple of nice notebooks for special purposes.

1. A Moleskine notebook/journal that I fill with quotes using different nice pens. These quotes can be from famous people or just someone close to me, but they're good to look through for inspiration/motivation when I need it.
   
   
2. For similar purposes as #1, I have a Rhodia notepad where I write down all the milestones I want to achieve and have achieved in my life as a sort of "checklist."

No problem. It really isn't as hard as it looks. My best suggestions would be to first look at what you have, and really think about if you need it. Just not bringing things will save you way more weight than buying the lightest stuff.

After that, invest in a decent scale. It doesn't have to be too expensive. Just something that is accurate to atleast .1oz. Start weighing your stuff, and put it into a LighterPack list.

Once you've done that, and you feel like you've done your best to get your baseweight as low as you can, ask for a shakedown on here (instructions are in the sidebar as well). People will look over what you have and give you ideas on where to cut down.

I found it really helpful to just sit on this subreddit and read as much as I can. Even reading through other peoples shakedowns will give you an idea of things you could do to lose weight. Also, I like to read through a lighterpack whenever I see it. For example, my flair next to my name has mine. Reading through other peoples lists also gives you some great insight.

Depending on what you wanna spend There are a number of choices.


For a sketch artist I'd steer clear of brands like Cross(Luxury writing utensils. Great products just not everyday art friendly)

I'd suggest a 2mm lead holder, some lead refills(4b, 2b, hb, 2h, 4h), a lead pointer, and a kneadable eraser or two.


Rotring makes some great products and even the more utilitarian Staedtler is a bifl and a great gift for an aspiring artist.

Edit: Also as a suggestion from an artist-Never anything in white if you can help it and a box of those foil pack Fingerbowl/wet wipes are quite a boon if they're a artist on the go. ;)

Hello! I got really into handlettering last year. What I did was buy some Duel Brush Pens and this set. The Duels are thicker strokes than the Fudenosuke ones. I recommend this beginner set as well, it even comes with a little workbook. Maybe start with just that to kind of dip your feet in a little. There are some good sites out there for practicing, I like Show Me Your Drills. They have printouts and daily practice sheets and such. I also highly recommend getting a pad of tracing paper from Michaels to place over the practice sheets, if only because it gives you endless room to keep practicing the same lines if you're so inclined and also the paper is much easier on the pens themselves. I also found Instagram a huge help. Looking through hashtags like #handlettering #brushpen #moderncalligraphy and related ones have SO many examples of different styles and plenty of videos where you can watch people writing to kind of get the hang of it! If you have any questions feel free to ask! I dove deep down the rabbit hole on this subject haha.

These are the greatest pens in the world.

The whole Pilot G2 line is amazing. But I particularly love the .38 ultra fine pens. I love a fine point tip. It's so precise and it writes so smooth. if I could only write with one type of pen for the rest of my life this would be it. I love it so much.

If you are looking to start calligraphy I would highly recommend just taking the plunge and purchasing some cheap calligraphy pens. They aren't super expensive and while you can just do faux-calligraphy with a ball point pen I have found that there is something about having a dedicated pen that makes me so much more motivated. If you are interested in Gothic calligraphy I personally love the Pilot Parallel pens for their ease of use and portability. Good luck on finding something artsy to do!

3/4" heatshrink to go over the ESC's. 0.25" I think to go over your battery cables. 5/8ths maybe to cover XT60 connectors. Wire sleeves aren't needed. I hold stuff down with double sided tape. or a wrap of electrical.

Thin solder, you'll thank me. Along with a pencil tip for your iron. You'll want ?14G? wire to solder a power lead, confirm this. I also didn't have a 5V step down to power my FC on my first build. You'll want one. Many PDB's have one integrated. That makes it easy.

Purple Loctite or your frame will vibrate itself apart, Real quick. Don't use this on Nylon, and don't get it on the motor shaft, but it is extra important to use on motor mounts though. Just be careful.

A battery buzzer that you can solder onto your PDB is nice. Adhesive velcro is good if you want to use that in addition to battery straps. Either that or hobby foam. A parallel charging board is nice to have so you don't lose an entire day charging batteries. Learn to use it.

I personally replace all my stock hardware with Aluminum Cap screws because I want to cut weight and I hate dealing with stripped hex heads. Not needed though. Zip ties are good to have. A bundle of black ones will work. I've found the colored ones are more prone to breaking. They are good to hold antenna wires.

90deg pin headers are nice. My FC didn't come with those, only straight, and stack height is a real problem with straight pins. Extra props. You'll want those. 8mm socket to remove prop nuts. 3mm allen key. USB to micro USB cable to update your FC. Some XT60 connectors.

Beyond that, I'm sure I'm over looking some things. After a couple of builds you just have extras of stuff so you overlook.

Chairs that cost $1000+ are not out of the norm at all.

Think of it this way: if you are a working professional in a white collar job, and you have to spend 6+ hours a day sitting, it makes a lot of sense to buy a chair that you are comfortable in. People pay ten times as much for things they use ten times less (e.g. cars).

you can get these big thick spiral bound sketchbooks at dollarama, load tf up on those, they're great. aside from that, you can generally go cheap on most comic supplies. steadler HB pencils are fine, a nice gum eraser, and some sharpies of various widths. If you're feeling ambitious and have an arts store near-by you can get some inexpensive faber-castelle felt tip pens for fine lines, .5mm should be fine. And This! this pen is awesome and super versatile.

I love a good pen, I have large hands and i prefer to take notes for class by hand instead of typing them out.

I've been using the Parker Jotter with an ink refill for a Fisher Space Pen (which includes an adapter) and I've found it to be a wonderful combination. The fisher space pen is a bit too small and slippery for me to use comfortably, and the Jotter has (in my opinion) a better aesthetic and a very satisfying click. The space pen refill writes very smoothly, the ink is indelible, and is much nicer to use than the standard Parker ink.

If you're really looking for a more minimal aesthetic, check out the pens sold by Muji. They are rather cheap, as well. That store in general tends toward a minimal aesthetic so they are worth checking out for other goods too.
Edit: This pen by Muji seems to be a pretty close fit to what you described. To my recollection, there's no branding on any of their pens.

I'm a huge fan of Corsair's peripherals. I'm using a Scimitar mouse and K70 RGB keyboard right now. Never had any quality issues myself, but their customer support is superb. I really like their aesthetic.

Logitech is a solid choice if you like their products. Personally I'm not into it, but I don't care for "gamer" stuff in general.

As for audio, I wouldn't recommend a headset of any kind. Personally, I use a pair of AKG K553 Pros, a FiiO E10K DAC/amp, and an Audio Technica AT2020 mic. That said, I understand that not everyone cares about audio as much as I do. If you're happy with the sound quality of your Krakens, you could get most any Logitech, Corsair, SteelSeries, etc. headset in the same price range and get comparable results.

This is the mouse pad I use. I don't care about flashy lights or fancy designs, I just wanted a large mouse pad.

Tombow Dual Brush is great ‘large brush’ for beginners. I would say first do lots of practice with small brush pens and then move to ink and nibs. Wow. I hate to say this, but this is a classic case of why a nobody should ever sign a legal document without a lawyer reading it first. Trust but verify.

The good news is, if you have been doing 50/50 shared since 2011, you can easily get this changed. (at least, in my state you can.)

Get a spiral bound notebook (not looseleaf--spiral bound or a hardback journal like a Moleskine) and begin recording a journal. Write down the dates that you pick her up, the dates that you drop her off with BM. Write down all the events that you attend with SD ("you"= Husband moreso that you specifically in this circumstance) and note if BM was there or not. Don't speculate what she was doing or make any comments about her behavior. Just note if she was there or not.

Build up a document with 6-8 months of documentation (better yet, a year) for the custody, and you can go back to court for an amendment. You can make the case to the judge that this has been the pattern of custody and visitation since 2011. Request a modification of the custody to reflect the default. Most judges will accept that modification because it is already what the two parents are doing.

If you can look back on your calendar and "rebuild" a journal going back 3-4 months or longer, you won't have to wait the full year to accumulate enough documentation.

I most certainly do, especially if you have any friends who like fps and ink: Pilot Blue/Black in the 'coke bottle'. You can get this for around $22.00 for 350ml (you read that right) and that is for a remarkably good ink that is even fairly waterproof. If you split the bottle with friends, you can end up with the absolute best ink value on the planet. I got into this ink because pen restoration people I know use it, and they use a lot of ink and it can't be a problem ink. Give it a look.

I think this organizer is pretty amazing. Its all elastic cords woven together and you can stick all kinds of things in there and they are secure. It's great for travel because it can hold all of your chargers and small devices, pens and pads of paper, various office supplies, whatever you need to do. And you can just throw it in your briefcase, purse, or carry on and everything is secure and organized. Love it!

I would recommend either Zig calligraphy markers or a Pilot Parallel Pen. Both are cheap enough to mess around with while still being legitimate tools. I would definitely recommend broad edge over pointed pen because PP takes a lot of time and effort for good results and I know when I was 13 I would've just wanted fun things to mess around with.

The only thing is I would not recommend highlighters to practice with due to their angled chiseled tip. Most calligraphy markers have straight chiseled tips, like most real calligraphy tools I'm aware of.

As far as the CSP, wait until the annual fee posts, then call to either cancel or PC it to a no annual fee card like the Chase Freedom or Chase Freedom Unlimited (both of which have ways to earn bonus points). The annual fee will be refunded if you PC within 30-41 days.

The wiring is in a protective plastic/rubber sleeve. I ran the sleeve up the side of the windshield. On my windshield there's a slight gap between the metal of the body and glass, like the Rubber seal is set in a little bit. I cut a thin strip of 3m exterior mounting tape and used a screwdriver or something to push it into the gap.

The adhesive tape has held up all winter and about a total of 8 months, so I'd say it works well.

I ran it up the passenger side because the way my light bar was the wiring came out on that side, plus you don't see it easily everytime you get in the car. You could do the drivers side also. The wiring harness I used was basically just long enough. I'd recommend starting from the light and working backwards to the battery, that way you don't have any extra wiring up top.

You can also use some type of adhesive wire clip to guide the wire down the rain gutter thing so it's a little more secure till it gets to the light. I attempted to do this, but I had trouble getting the clip things to stick.I'll probably try to redo it soon.

Like I said, I'll try to get some pictures when I get around to it to help explain it further.

Diamine, tons of colors and are affordable (especially in Europe) many colors are dupes of more expensive inks out there. They likely make ink for other companies that sell ink but don't have ink manufacturing capabilities, like Akkerman. They have a lot of great colors, but their water resistance is generally low.

Noodler's would be the ton's of colors and affordable US company but he's a 1 man show so people don't have much faith in him combined with his political views he's one of the more controversial company/people in the fountain pen world. He seems to experiment with inks and ink properties so he has some interesting water resistant colors and UV glowing colors out there.

I like water resistant inks so I'm a fan of Pilot Blue and Blue Black, Platinum Blue Black, Platinum Classic Iron Gall series, Platinum Pigment ink series, and Sailor Nano-pigment Seiboku and Souboku.

If you're looking for great bang for buck blue ink, I would buy a 350ml Pilot Blue Black bottle for 20 something dollars. But you'll need another bottle to put that into, so either an empty bottle or another bottle of a nicely shaped Pilot Blue Black.

I started with these Fudenosuke pens, which are super cheap on Amazon. If you're looking for a wide variety of color, but still a pretty easy-to-use pen, check out these as well. The trick is to find a pen that has a stiffer tip. The softer brush pens are trickier to learn on, but it can be done. I like the black Fudenosuke pens because they are pretty similar, but the blue one has a harder tip and the green one has a bit more give. It should be able to help you transition into using softer brush tips!

There are tons of great options, the Parker Jotter I can definitely recommend. I've never had any leakage issues with the stock ink cartridge it came with but I also normally switch it out for a Fisher Space Pen refill.

Other good metal pens that aren't too expensive might be a Cross Click which is my current edc with a Fisher Space Pen refill in it which is great for signing receipts and quick things like that. I use it at work to give to customers to sign their receipts.. I like it because it is skinnier than the Parker Jotter, however, it is easier to accidentally click in your pocket whereas with the Jotter you have to use an intentional amount of force to click it.

Another one (or two) would be the Fisher Bullet Space Pen or the Cap-O-Matic Space Pen. The bullet is really quite compact and the Cap-O-Matic is a regular sized pen.

And if you're really worried about ink leakage in your pocket then you can get something like a Lamy Swift which has a mechanism so that when the tip of the pen is extended, the pocket clip retracts which makes it impossible to clip onto your pocket. One thing to keep in mind with the Lamy Swift is that it comes with a rollerball refill which is incredibly smooth but it puts out more ink than a regular ballpoint so it has a longer drying time and can smear on receipt paper.

No problem! This is my favorite. I should add that while they’re a bit more expensive than your regular notebook/notepad, they’re totally worth it. The paper is really good quality... and of course there’s the delightful dot grid! If you try them out, I hope you like them as much as I do 😊

If I can give some suggestions, I know mechanical pencils are kind of ubiquitous in schools, but I would try drawing more with thicker leads. Wooden pencils, woodless pencils, or staedtler mechanical pencils will help you with form and depth. Also using different lead types can help you in the long run. You seem to have a heavy hand (or really dark lead, going to guess it's 2B), playing around with 2H lead might help you save more time of drawing and erasing. (If you want more info let me know, I'm going to stop here because I feel like I'm rambling).

Keep at it, and never fall into the trap of being insecure about your work.

  I have a total of 31 IP reservations according to my Eero app. This makes it a lot easier to manage my network, set up port forwarding, etc.

These are stupidly amazing. I kept seeing them mentioned everywhere, so I decided to pick one up (plus a sharpener which they call 'lead pointer' and some different grade leads). I don't think I'll ever use another pencil again unless I need a specific grade they don't make.

These have a nice weight in your hand, you can sharpen them to a needle tip easily without ever experiencing any breakage, you can turn them on their side to shade large areas, you don't have to deal with wood shavings, and the graphite is super high quality and always constant.

I've purchased 3 more since that first one.

Also a good tip: the lead refills come with differently colored caps (2B is purple, HB black, etc). You can pull the original cap off a pencil and replace it with the color cap of the lead you're going to put in it, so you always know which pencil hosts which grade lead.

I'm pretty much in the same boat, except that I'm a real man so I use ultra fine point pens. :-P

I've had my Nexus 7 for just a couple of days now and think it is great. For the price point, it utterly trounces the Kindle Fire (which is getting passed down to my niece shortly). The screen is lovely, the UI is far more polished, and I'm generally enjoying using it quite a bit more. I suspect it'll get a bit better, too, as it is Google's flagship tablet right now.

I don't have a lot of interesting or really cheap stuff :/ but it's worth a shot! :) gifting is fun!

Lots of people love the Staedtler stylus (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072N31S7C) ... I think it's pretty neat but I'm not a fan of carrying extra shit around, so mine stays next to my bed 24/7.

I did pick up a GearVR and ... ehhhh... some people love it but I just am not impressed by the quality of the games available nor by the quality of most 360 YouTube videos. I mean you can pay $8 for a game that nobody would play for FREE if it weren't for the novelty of wearing your phone on your face.

Otherwise, it depends what you want to do, maybe get one of those attachable lenses to enhance the camera. Maybe get a case that can hold a couple of credit cards and cash so that you can try to go without a wallet.

Every time I post a drawing, I always get a couple of PMs with people asking me what I use to draw. For my le'reddit doodles, I keep it pretty simple:

• Pencil:Straedtler Mars 780 Technical Mechanical Pencil I use HB lead almost exclusively for sketching the layout before I go to inks.
  
  
• Pens: Sakura "Microns" These have been my go to inking pens for years, they're a tried and true champ and they're pretty cheap. There's a lot of milliners out there but these are my favorites by far. For the reddit doodles I really only use the 08, 05, and 01 for the really fine lines.
  
  
• Sharpies and other stuff: I use a lot of Sharpies because they're cheap, typically just to do the thick black lines and fill in the big black spaces. However I also use a Sharpie White Paint Marker for reverse inking and minor corrections as well as Presto Correction Pens.
  
  

For sketching, I use a Staedtler Mars 780 and to get it to the sharpness I like, I use a Staedtler Rotary

For inking, I mainly use Pigma Microns, but also like using other brands such as Kurutake Zig or Staedtler pigment liners, all of which I'm sure you can find at your local art store

Snapping Android windows came out last week in Chrome OS 65 😁

I can't say for certain because I haven't used a Wacom pad recently, but I believe Chrome OS does support them natively. Swear i tried one on my old Cr-48 I think. Just buy from somewhere with a return policy and try one out!

I've had trouble finding docks with 2 USB C female ports (same for battery packs), seems to just be because of the times. In the future I'm sure they'll exist.

Not an answer to your question exactly, but have you considered upgrading your casters instead? I'm not sure if it's truly better over multiple years at protecting your carpets over a mat, but I've LOVED having them on my office chair and can't see any visible wear on the carpets.

Get a regular chair of your choosing, whether you want a fancy task chair like a herman miller, steel series or a "gamer" chair is up to you. I really enjoy my AK Racing Obsidian series, it's quite ergonomic and comfortable.

My favorite feature is the mouse and keyboard are on the same surface so the keyboard doesn't keep hitting the edge of the mouse pad when I game.

i asked my brother for these. i also own an assortment of these in a bunch of different colours. and these black ones. I got most of mine from Curry's which is a store here in Canada (I don't know if they ship elsewhere, sorry!) but I know Michaels has brush pens as well :) I always tend to check out instagrammers to see what pens they're using. This woman uses a wide range of them, it says what the pen is in the comment of the vid. If you're looking into learning how to brush pen she also sells worksheets. Have fun!! How about a Zebra F701 and add a Fisher Space Pen refill. The pen body is well built and pretty cheap and the refill is literally good enough to write in space. For something more classy you can get a Parker Jotter which also fits the space pen refill but has a pretty good refill itself.

The TWSBI Diamond 580AL is a great pen, piston filler and demonstrator for £58.99. That would also give you about £11 free for some ink and maybe a Rhodia dot pad staplebound or wirebound.

If you wanted to get a couple of inks and writing pad then you could go for the slightly cheaper TWSBI Diamond 580RB £46.99 leaving you £23 to spend on ink and paper.

If you wanted to push the £70 to the limit and just get a classy pen with a solid 18kt gold nib for £72.72. It wouldn't leave you anything over for ink or writing pads but it would be a classy pen.

The other option would be to go the cheap fountain route and buy 2 or 3 Jinhao X450's off Amazon or eBay, they typically sell for around £6-10 each, then you have a lot more to spend on ink and writing pads. If you go the Jinhao route then I would avoid the 250 range, they are fine nibs as opposed to the 450 medium nibs, and my experience are the fine nibs tend to be quite scratchy and I had one where the nib just wouldn't friction fit into the pen. I have 5x Jinhao X450's and not had a single problem with any of them.

I use a black moleskin journal to keep track of my progress, this is the one I bought off amazon.

I write my focus for the day, the drills or workouts that I do, how the session is going, particular things that I noticed while climbing, strength training exercises (sets and reps), my start and end times for my climbing and workouts (It is nice to track how much time you spend at the gym each week, and what portion is time spent climbing vs. strength training).

I don't write the individual climbs/grades that I do. I don't see much of a point to this, as gym grades are not very consistent and they aren't up for that long. When I am outdoors, I write every route that I climb.

I also tried keeping notes in a spreadsheet on my phone, but I like writing better, and it keeps me off of my phone while training.

/r/fountainpens is neat but be aware you will not be able to do this kind of writing with a fountain pen. You also won't be able to do what many people think of "calligraphy" (german style lettering that has thick and thin parts) with a fountain pen.

If dip pens are a little scary for a beginner, try getting the Pilot Parallel calligraphy pen. Very simple like a fountain pen, dead cheap and you'll be able to do lots of calligraphy with them.

However, dip pens are super cheap and fun to play with. You can get a nice nib, nib holder and ink for $20 on Amazon. Calligraphy is a very cheap hobby to get into.

Did 5 weeks last year with the Farpoint 40 because I was looking to avoid all issues with my luggage.

Carry right on flights, wear it around for hours if needed, climbing stone steps without dragging traditional luggage, keep my hands free, etc.

Worked perfect if you're going for minimal packing and maximum activity potential.

As far as what to pack, I kept my electronics/cables/GoPro set-up organized with a GridIt, and otherwise just packed like 6-7 underwear, 6-7 socks, 4-5 shirts, 1 nice shirt, 1 sweater (for Switzerland), jeans, and shorts. Easy.

Also brought a daypack. Tiny backpack to keep water, sunscreen, etc. in for hikes and longer days out.

Both sides. I sketch a lot with blue ColErase pencils, which aren't as smudgy as graphite, or in ink or gouache, which won't rub off onto the facing page. Usually I'm not too fussy about my sketchbook stuff but if I've got something I really don't want to get too fucked up, I'll tack a piece of tracing paper onto the page.

Loads. An empty bit of space on a sketchbook page is a place to practice drawing, like, a hand or something like that. It's there to be drawn in.

Different sizes; a big one that I keep handy in my studio space, a smaller one for carrying around, one with gray paper, one with tan paper, and a kraft paper scrapbook for doing gouache sketches in so I'll stop wrinkling up my regular sketchbook. (But that one I only use one side of each page, because it would get wrinkly otherwise. The paper's heavy but it's not that heavy.)

On a side note, I always keep one of these Field Notes notebooks handy for writing things down, separate from my sketchbook. Artists I want to look up, notes from a book I'm reading or video I'm watching, color palettes I want to try out, whatever. If it's art related and important enough I want to remember it, I write it down. I've tried using my sketchbook for this in the past, but I've just found it easier to keep the two things separate.

You're buying waterman ink and a $15 pen in this equation which is absurd. Cheap pens need to compared to cheap pens.

Let's say you buy a $2 Jinhao from eBay, free shipping, in an EF nib, including a converter, and then buy this $22 350 mL blue ink from Amazon.

It's 7 times the ink for twice the price, which is 3.5 times the value on ink. Plus, in an EF, you're writing a line more comparable to the .05 line of normal cheap pens, while putting far less ink down on the paper, which could mean that you use half or even less of the ink than you described. That 350 mL bottle would last forever. And the total cost for basically a lifetime of writing is $24.


The lie we tell ourselves is that we can save money by buying the pens and inks we WANT to use. We don't, it's a fantastic waste. But at its core there is truth to the economic upside of a refillable pen.

I use this SteelSeries Mousepad, and I absolutely love it 100%. It's high quality, has a great feel, and is the perfect thickness for me. For your setup, I'm actually thinking you could rock an XL pad that goes under both your mouse and keyboard. While SteelSeries does have a couple basic XL and XXL mousepads, you could always get a Corsair pad, or go and get yourself something RGB. Totally see where you're coming from in terms of not finding any that you like. I know that you can probably get one custom made, or something with a design that complements your case/controller color schemes. Just a couple ideas to get you started, but I feel like it will end up being a simple, yet highly impactful, addition to your setup.

Sure. This pen is amazing ergonomically and hella cheap (shaped much like rotring with knurled grip and stainless steel construction), BUT: it has two drawbacks. One is the awful stock ink that smudges, and the other is the plastic clicky that squeaks. So, several posters took it upon themselves to remedy these problems.


Firstly, everything on the pen is metal except for one part of the pen; the retractable "clicker" - weird, right? The plastic parts make it squeak whenever you bring the pen in or out. Thankfully, another zebra pen DOES have the metal clicker! The rest of the pen's construction is not much to write home about, but that's unimportant. You just need that metal clicker construction.


Secondly, the ink. The stock ink is pretty bad and is prone to smudging. Once again, thankfully, the fisher space pen insert will fit once you remove a small plastic part at the front of the f-701.

This will leave you with a great fully metal pen that also has an ergonomic knurled grip and that makes use of the pressurized space ink!

Does anyone know how to get a rotring 800 with metal internals? I'd like another one, as mine is the plastic sort. The lead inside keeps breaking and I've heard the run with metal internals doesn't have this issue.

1. I'm ex law enforcement, and I worked in Legal for over 15 years. You can try filing a police report, but he hasn't broken any laws. So there is nothing they can do for you.
   
   
2. Your primary supervisor and your HR department are who you should notify. This should be done in writing, either by email or by typed letter.
   
   In this report you should include:
   
   

• Times and date of contact.
  
  
• What was said, verbatim. Type out clearly and concisely what was said. Write it in a format that it easy to read/follow.
  
  
• If possible, include hard copies of the text conversation.
  
  
• Retain copies of everything you give them.
  
  Purchase a notebook. A lot will happen, many conversations, and so-on. You will never keep it all straight in your memory.
  
  
• Record the name, job title, and their relation to you, of each person you give documents to.
  
  
• List what documents you give to who, and the date and time you did so.
  
  
• Keep detailed notes of any discussions with anyone regarding this. HR, supervisors, dept. managers, coworkers. (Make these notes after the meetings/conversations. Not in front people while it's taking place.)
  
  
• Never, never give that notebook to anyone except your attorney. It may sound ridiculous, but if you willing relinquish control/possession of that book, they can keep it. I guarantee you this guy is working on a story, and it's going to make all of this your doing. And believe it or not it often works, or at least muddies the waters enough that they'll do nothing.

I have the exact same CaseLogic bag, but I only carried it for about 6 months. It was super awkward, and if you forget to do up the little Velcro zipper stop tags, the whole front of the bag can come open and dump your stuff all over. I had a rolling bag for a bit, but it annoyed me, since I travel a lot of non-paved or cobblestone places, and I felt like it was bouncing things around.

My hubs finally convinced me to invest a little (less than $100 on sale) in an Epiphanie bag, which doesn't look like a camera bag at all, gets no second glances when I travel, and works as a functional carrying piece when I don't have my cameras. That, in conjunction with one of these, has done a lot to focus my gear list and travel style.

To note, I've been trying to streamline the amount of stuff I carry when I travel, and only bust out the big cargo stuff when I do stationary shoots. I find that carrying a bunch of stuff distracts from my enjoyment, as I spend more time worrying about the right equipment than just simply framing and shooting. It helps that some of the best shots I have are on my phone, from when I didn't have my gear at all. :)

The Easy flow 9000 is very good as stated by another redditer, however I personally like the fine space pen refill which comes with an adapter to fit parker pens.

I use a Pentel Sharp Kerry and absolutely love it! I attached a Leuttchurm pencil loop on the inside flap of my pocket notebook cover so that I can carry it. (Just fyi, my cover is about 3.5" x 5".)

EDIT: This also doubles as my wallet and I carry it in my back pocket. I need to keep the pencil inside the cover so that it's not too wide. As is, I never sit on the pencil. I chose the Kerry for the size and durability. Seriously, one of my best purchases.

The toggle bolt, or some type of fastener will indeed hold more weight and be a more permanent fix. However, you said you are a renter, which changes things.

In that case you might consider using a foam mounting tape, or the stronger exterior mounting tape.

Just make sure you clean both the back of the phone and the wall thoroughly, and then wipe both down with alcohol prior to tape application. If you put enough mounting tape on that phone, which looks fairly light, your troubles should be over. That's going to be your cheapest option that'll last as long as you are there and not require any special tools or wall surgery. Especially considering that wall looks pretty dodgy in the first place and trying to affix anything through it could be asking for more trouble than it is worth. If you owned it I'd advise different but that is not what you asked. Good luck.

If you're using them in poor conditions: Fisher Space Pen, or a pen that will accept a Fisher refill. I carry this Parker Jotter because it matches my Hero 100 Flighter, equipped with this Fisher refill.

However, just saying you want a ballpoint pen is a pretty big request. Gel, rollerball and ballpoint pens are all... ballpoint pens. Different ones will come with different inks.

Uniball Jetstreams are good, as are Pilot G2s. Personally, though, the Retro 51 Tornado is an absolutely fantastic pen. It's more expensive by a wide margin than the Jotter. It's a much thicker pen, though, so if you have larger hands it's much more comfortable than a Fisher or Parker. And, unlike a lot of pens out there, the refills are both fantastic and affordable.

So. I would say: Get a Jotter and slap a Fisher Space Pen refill in it. Then, if you want to get another nice ballpoint, get yourself a Retro 51 Tornado. Then get a fountain pen. Avoid Zebra. I love my G-301s, but goddamn, those refills are expensive and don't get any mileage at all.

Both should do the job just fine. The second one is weaker supposedly but I'm pretty sure it's the one I used for my power strips and they've held up well. I always worry about going too strong and trying to remove it later.

I mostly sell clothing. But I do occasionally sell electronics and glassware. Now that I've gotten pretty good at estimating weight on clothing, I don't weigh them until I actually go to ship. I know that a pair of jeans is almost always going to be over 16oz, so it will go priority mail... etc.

You can order free priority mail shipping supplies on the usps.com website. My favorite is the flat rate bubble mailer, it's under $6 to ship regardless of weight. The small flat rate is also a good one. The medium/large flat rates are only good if it's your cheapest option. If you are mailing a 3-4 pound item across the country, flat rate will be cheaper... but if it's going just a short distance it's probably cheaper to mail it based on weight. ALWAYS ship first class if it weighs under 16oz, it's much cheaper. I buy padded bubble mailers in bulk on amazon/ebay, and they end up costing around 20-25 cents each. When I worked as an office manager, I had to routinely take items up to the UPS store to mail and they charge an arm and a leg for their boxes and shipping supplies. Also, UPS probably isnt your best option on most items. I've only had to ship FedEx twice, because the items were very bulky/heavy. Other than that, I exclusively use USPS first class and priority mail.

AFAIK, insurance is free for up to $50. I rarely purchase insurance if the item sells for more than that, because most of my inventory is clothing and I pay very little for my items. If you're shipping electronics, I would probably splurge and pay extra to get them insured.

I'd say re-stocking with items.

Boxes: If you live in a building, use the ones people throw away that you can find in the basement or go around your neighborhood and get some from the curb. I also like to reuse Amazon mailers.

Label printer: At an entry level, it's probably most cost effective to use the printer you already have or to buy a cheap laser printer like a Brother HL-L2300D that you can use to also print other stuff.

Scale: You can buy one for Amazon for ~$20-30, so I'd definitely say buy one if you don't already have one, as buying USPS (especially) labels of the correct weight via ebay/PayPal is cheaper than paying retail at the post office.

I can't recommend the Pentel Sharp Kerry enough.

It has a cap so no lead or pointy ends poking you when it's in a front or back pocket. It's shorter in the capped configuration and longer with it open and writing with the cap on the back. It has an eraser in the cap and advances the lead when you push on the end, even with the cap on the back. It writes fantastic, feels nice, and it's the first .05mm I've owned that wasn't snapping leads every five seconds. It's very well designed, all metal construction and surprisingly inexpensive for what you get.

Cocoon Grid-It organizer. It's rather cheap and especially useful if you use different bags like a messenger bag for school and a backpack for a bit longer travels. You can easily attach stuff you need once in a while to the grid and just throw it to another bag.

Currently my grid-it contains a USB-stick, couple cables, one of those Victorinox card multitools, a powerbank and a pen. When I'm traveling overnight I add a toothbrush and a small tube of toothpaste. 5/5 would buy again.

If you have a Goodwill nearby, you should definitely check it out for purses. You'd be surprised by the gems you can find there!

As for saving space in your purse, you should get a Grid-it. Extra pockets in purses (that you may not even use!) usually just add extra bulk. You can really make the most out of your purses with these organizers. You can probably make one yourself if you're strapped for cash.

Edit: This is an absolute lifesaver. Comes with a pen, scissors, tweezers, toothpick, screw drivers, nail file, flash light, magnifying glass, and a ruler, and it all fits in your wallet! Got mine at TjMaxx a few years ago and I've been carrying it around with me ever since.

The softness of lead is up to you, since that's preference.

Feathering can be caused by a multitude of issues:

Pen laying down too much ink - if the pen is a very wet writer, it will sometimes leave too much ink on the page, and it will be absorbed by the paper.

Bad paper - a lot of paper is not ideal for fountain pens. There are definitely some expensive papers that will work absolute wonders for making the ink look great, but some hp 32lb paper is really the way to go, especially for a beginner. After that, Rhodia is a very good choice.

Bad ink - different inks from different fountain pens react differently on paper. Noodler's specifically has an ink that is designed to not feather at all. (Noodler's X-Feather). The one in the pictures is the XTrac Ripper XXL, it's 36" x 18" and I like it, the edges aren't the best though imo. It's a solid mouse pad but they could definitely use some work on the edges.

I ordered the Glorious XXL Extended Gaming Mouse Mat which will get here Friday. It's also 36" x 18" but the edges have a stitching of some sort so I believe it will hold up much better.

Forgot to mention you will want to pick up a different stylus for the Chromebook for heavy usage. The portability is excellent with the provided stylus but it is designed as a "add on" for people doing quick notes rather than the professional artist. My hand does cramp due to the barrel size of the provided stylus. While the ones I linked aren't the only choices you need to make sure you get the ones designed for the older Surface tablets and/or Wacom compatible technology. I think there are a few subreddits posted about this in the Samsung Chromebook subs...

If you're feeling like BD pen needles the Pilot G2 pens in the Ultra Fine (0.38) size is great. I haven't had to scrunch an address onto a prescription in ages.

Well, it's not that I can't get some of them for relatively the same price in-store, it's just a lot easier to sit down and check off the lists and not have to deal with pushy moms getting supplies for kids.

I keep my pencil case, headphones, calculator, the plug for my phone charger, a small calendar, and one or two other small things on the front occupying less than half the space. The back just has a zippered pocket where I keep some misc papers, a formula sheet and ruler in. It sits in my bag in front of my laptop, my notebook, and a thin text book, but behind my laptop charger, and few first aid things and my waterbottle. It really has made my backpack organization more efficient.

If you get the grey outdoor mounting strips, it will take out your drywall before it falls off (that may be a problem to take down but it's easy to install). It's crazy strong after it cures. It's the consumer version of the VHB tape compared here with rivets. We use it in our small batch manufacturing business....

This set is fantastic for 0.38 mm pens. They aren't quite as inexpensive as the Pilot equivalent, but the color selection is fantastic for complex drawing. I found myself using a black pilot for writing normal notes, but the colors for diagrams and notation.

Make sure it weighs grams, oz and pounds. Also check that the screen is not placed on the weighing platform. My old food scale was like that and when I would put bigger items on I wouldn’t be able to read the screen. Some scales also have a top that folds up 90 degrees to hold bigger items, but a shoe box also works for that. I use a smaller “jewelry” scale for items less than an oz. or two

Plus it also is neat having a bunch of these filled out and dated to see where you've come from and what you've accomplished- cool stuff.

Pilot Blue-Black is cheap as dirt (350 mL for $25), waterproof, professional, and really well behaved. It also shades surprisingly well on Rhodia and Tomoe River paper (maybe a 6.5/10 on shading which is a bit unusual for such a standard color).

(I've recently rediscovered this ink after spilling some water on a page I'd written and seeing just a hint of desaturation instead of the complete washing away of everything. Instant convert/made me love the ink again).

Are you using the speedball nibs in dip pens, or in fountain pens (in which there is an internal ink supply and the pen does not need to be repeatedly dipped into the ink)? If the former, then India ink should work fine. If the latter, you would need to use an ink that specifically says it's for fountain pens.

I have no issues with the Moleskine paper, and quite enjoy writing on it. The only product that has some bleed-through is my soft-cover, and even that is negligible.

The Leuchtturm doesn't have a bleed-through problem, but a drying-speed problem. It dries so incredibly slowly that I had to sit for nearly 30 seconds to let some of the ink dry. This isn't a problem the Moleskines have. Writing with the pen turned upside down (finer point) shortens drying time, but is also annoying. I can't write in paragraphs without smudging, a problem I don't have with Moleskine.

These galleries may or may not demonstrate what I'm talking about, I don't have a great place to setup for photos at the moment (plotting for NaNo and some freelance work has my desk full of papers). I can write in the Leuchtturm (I'll never remember how to spell that) when I hold the pen (Sheaffer Imperial 440 - not my pic) upside down, but I really dislike doing that.

It could be the ink, I use Waterman Intense Black (Encre Noir - so much better that way). I am almost out of my 50mls, so I'll need new ink soon. If anyone wants to recommend a good ink for the Leuchtturm, I'll give it a go.

I will say that I do prefer a rougher texture. I enjoy the sound a rougher paper makes, and I like the feel of it under the pen. If I can't hear or feel the pen, I don't enjoy writing.

I personally find all this talk of "leagues" to be ridiculous. It shouldn't matter how expensive your notebook is. All that matters are these two questions:

1. Does it cooperate with the pen?
   
2. Do you like it?
   
   For me, Moleskine notebooks are both "Yes." For Leuchtturm, it fails on the first. If it's an ink problem, I'd very likely convert if I found an ink that cooperated.

Honestly if you don't know what they need from asking them, a gift card to Amazon. I'd much rather have that and spend it on what I need or whatever G.A.S. tells me I need than to receive a piece of kit that I didn't choose. I don't mean to sound rude, it's just that I rather prefer researching and choosing my own gear.

I'm a huge fan of the Pentel Sharp Kerry. I have had one for over 20 years (back when it was called the 5) and it has held up and performed beautifully. You won't find another pencil with a cap, either.

First, excellent name.

Second, you only need one pen. It's the Pilot G2 in your desired line thickness. I like 0.38 mm. But some people prefer thicker

Thirdly, efficiency = (the shit you gotta do)/(the amount of work+time it takes you to do it). Efficiency comes. With time. The nice thing about residency is you'll be doing so much of what you have to learn that it will crystalize into memory for you. The process works.

Fifthly, your job is to learn. You aren't expected to be particularly functional from day 1.

Lastly, a list of tips:

• Take your history the same way, every time. You'll be able to weed out what you don't need.
  
• Do your exam the same way, every time. Eventually you'll be able to weed out what you don't need.
  
• Depending on your EMR, a lot of the documentation is automated. Don't re-invent the wheel. Steal templates.
  
• Med students take thorough histories (usually) and buy you time

I currently carry 4 cards, an ID, and a little bit of cash. cheap, small, but pulling cards out gracefully takes a little getting used to. the other downside is that you need to fold your cash, but the R1 Slim is freaking small. been carrying this for a little over 6 months and I love it.
