Mischief Managed!

The First

Since I don't drink, my experience with wine is limited, but as a mother I have quite a lot of experience with small creatures who like to whine. We all know the only way to keep these little creatures (otherwise known as children) from excessive whining is to keep them distracted and entertained.

The Second

How is it that muggles can keep their homes clean without magic or house elves? I can't even think about the hard work it must take to keep a tidy home without magic, using nothing but a basic broom! And did you know they only use brooms for cleaning? Imagine! If I couldn't lift off the ground on my broom, I don't know what I'd do! How would I travel?! Surely those large metal boxes they put up in the sky can't be safe! How do they stay in the air without magic?! I just don't know how I'd live if I were a muggle.

The Third

Of all the things that people have put on their heads throughout history, only the hat lived on as the one piece of attire universally accepted to protect the tops of heads. There was a short period of time between 1622 and 1624 in which wizards commonly wore ornamental bonsai trees atop their heads, but this fad inevitably led to a large increase in bee stings during the spring and summer months when bees became interested pollinating the head wear. And so, as most fads do, the bonsai look faded out of popularity. Only the hat as remained an actively appropriate way to address the need to cover the top of one's head. There have been many famous hats throughout time, including the bowling bowler that was often seen resting atop the head of the wizard known as Maginny McMulnery, when it was not bowling perfect games. Another was the incredibly well-known Lost Diadem of Ravenclaw, though many argue that the diadem is not qualified as a hat, but rather an item of jewelry. Others argue that it's stylistic qualities make no difference, as it's use is what is important, though most of those who argue are tuned out by others who don't much care about the semantics regarding long-lost treasures that will never be found again. The most famous of all hats, however, is inarguably the Hogwarts Sorting Hat which has sorted students into their Houses at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry since it's inception.

The Fourth

If you are in need of any book, there is only one place you need look. The Hogwarts Library will always have what you need.... Unless you are looking for information about horcruxes, in which case you should stop asking questions and get back to your studies.

The Fifth

When traveling, it is important to pack smartly. How many things can you fit in your trunk, and will there be room for everything you'll need? Sometimes, it is simply impossible to bring every item on your list in just one trunk, but two or three trunks is just too much to carry when passing through muggle areas where magic use is restricted. That's why some witches and wizards decide to use an Undetectable Extension charm. This charm allows your trunk or bag to extend within, so that you can fit a nearly infinite amount of items in a finite space. This charm leaves items bigger on the inside, allowing for a much easier and hassle-free travel experience.

The Bonus

Any superhero knows that a cape is not a complete disguise. Well, any hero besides superman. If you're going to wear a cape, you've also got to have a mask. It's probably best if the mask has eye holes, though...

Edit!!! Oh, I forgot to say why I will NEED these items! The first is self-explanatory, I'll need to keep the whining to a minimum in order to focus on the work I'm assigned, especially if I take potions. You know Snape is going to assign at least a dozen parchments worth of writing every week. The second is what I'll need to use in order to get across the Atlantic to attend Hogwarts! No matter how much I prefer traveling by broom, I can't risk such a long flight alone. The third is something all students will need, because without the sorting hat it would be impossible to be sorted into our houses! The fourth is, of course, incredibly important. I'm sure I'll be frequenting the Hogwarts Library throughout my time there. The fifth will be the very first thing I use, because without my trunk being bigger on the inside they'll never even let me onto the plane! I'd have way too many bags and trunks without that charm. And of course, as for the bonus, I'll need that mask in order to sleep, because my dorm mates are quite rowdy and I expect them to be using magic well into the evening most nights. Along with the eye mask, I'll also be packing several pairs of ear plugs!

Ok, I have slept horribly for most of my life. I've come up with things that help me, but I have to be strict with myself.

  • Have a sleep schedule for as much of the week as possible. To bed at 10:30, up at 6:30. Customize it to you. Stick to it. This is the most important component.

  • No screens 1 hour before bed. If you must, utilize f.lux on your computer or something similar on your phone. Avoid social media or reddit. You don't want your brain getting shots of pleasurable addictive like hormones when your ready to sleep.

  • Ear plugs. Just enough to dampen odd noises. These are what I use: Howard Leight Earplugs. Yes their pink, but their low strength and I still hear my alarm.

  • Eye mask.

  • Have a set schedule before bed. Snack, brush teeth, floss, wash face, insert other self care here.

  • Optional: I downloaded the app Calm. They have stories you can listen to that help you fall asleep. One read by Stephen Fry!

    Best of luck friend <3

(About the ear plugs and eye mask, the reason I started using these is because I read a study about how to help people sleep in hospital settings. The eye masks and ear plugs helped participants in the study.)
u/mastermayhem · 5 pointsr/ExmoPsych
  • I highly recommend getting an Eye Mask, and taking some time to close your eyes, put on the mask and dive deep inside yourself. Music is optional, it can be good, but it's not necessary. Most people really obsess over the Open Eye Hallucinations, but it's when you close your eyes, relax and dive inside yourself, that the true learning takes place.
  • I heard a quote recently that says, "That which you reject, persists." The idea being, not to try and resist or run away from anything. If the experience is taking you down a path of thoughts you normally don't like to think about, don't avoid it, it will make it worse. Instead, embrace it. Give those thoughts a hug, and see what you can learn from going down that path.
  • I would prioritize your day so that you don't have any demanding obligations. I would recommend turning your phone on airplane mode and turn off all notifications. Unplug as much as you're able.
  • There may be times during your experience where you are caught in a "Negative Thought Loop". In these situations, try changing your surroundings. Get up and move, change the music, do something different, and your thoughts and experience will change as well.
  • Other's have mentioned this, and I want to echo the importance of taking notes. Sometimes writing is difficult in that state of mind, so I've found it helpful to use my phones Audio Memo app, where I can record myself speaking. It makes it easier.
  • I don't want to advocate taking more than your comfortable with, but if your mind and environment are in a good place, I'm in favor of people taking larger doses than smaller. I agree with /u/choose_the_rice, that 3g is probably the maximum amount you should consider taking for your first time.

    Godspeed on your first time!

Please return and let us know how it went after your experience.
u/HawKarma · 3 pointsr/parentsofmultiples

Father of 12-week-old twin boys here.

If you're bottle feeding, there's a good chance you (our your spouse or caretaker) will have to feed both at the same time. I've tried feeding both in separate papasans, but I find that two boppies on the couch works well. One to my left holding one baby and one around my waste with the other on it.

Product wise, my wife and I have been really grateful for our Fisher-Price Rock 'n Play sleepers. Dr. Brown's bottles have worked well for us too. We've also enjoyed having a Homedics Soundspa noise machine and projector.

If you have a willing mother-in-law and a spare bedroom, ask her to move in for the first few months. I'm only half-joking. Seriously, find a third person to give some consistent help. Twin infants are serious never-ending work.

Take naps when the babies nap and go to bed early. Proper sleep is the linchpin of sanity.

Congrats btw. :)

Description|Hey everyone! In preparation for my red eye flight in September, I’ve compiled a list of 12 tips to get you asleep on your next overnight flight. The goal is to have a full night sleep on the plane so I can enjoy my first day in Scotland without feeling too weird, tired and cranky. Plus, hopefully it’ll set me up for a mostly jet-lag free trip! I hope you find these tips helpful, and if you have any tips on your own I’d love to hear them!⤶⤶Things mentioned: ⤶⤶Disposable toothbrushes-⤶https://www.amazon.com/Colgate-Wisp-Fresh-Portable-Mini-Brush/dp/B00LMITRLM/ref=pd_aw_sim_194_1/140-4379758-0458968?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00LMITRLM&pd_rd_r=23968d21-7200-4dbb-9eb7-1a5fd687443b&pd_rd_w=RxTQF&pd_rd_wg=ZKAoX&pf_rd_p=469620d9-3e90-496d-9dc8-b19f900ba5fe&pf_rd_r=J4HPYSK9R2FHBQBGG42Z&refRID=J4HPYSK9R2FHBQBGG42Z⤶⤶Melatonin-⤶https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000GG6D9A/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1⤶⤶Travel pillow-⤶https://www.amazon.com/Everlasting-Comfort-Memory-Airplane-Earplugs/dp/B06WWFYCSG⤶⤶Travel blanket-⤶https://www.amazon.com/Cabeau-Fold-Travel-Blanket-Case/dp/B00LWAC1UE?th=1&psc=1⤶⤶Lavender filled sleeping mask-⤶https://www.etsy.com/listing/717378131/unavailable-from-813-823-sweet-dreams?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=lavender+sleeping+mask&ref=sc_gallery-1-1&plkey=c0a0bf5c81ffe58b82897ecbc371e9fcc3cabd7e%3A717378131&frs=1⤶⤶Compression socks-⤶https://www.amazon.com/Compression-Running-Athletic-Pregnancy-15-20mmHg/dp/B074MW1MTW/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=compression+socks&qid=1565214332&s=gateway&sr=8-6⤶⤶Anti-pressure ear plug-⤶https://www.amazon.com/Original-EarPlanes-Healthcare-Airplane-Protection/dp/B0000C1KT4⤶⤶No jet-lag supplement-⤶https://www.amazon.com/Miers-Labs-Homeopathic-Remedy-Count/dp/B00007KUX7/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=no+jet+lag&qid=1565214569&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Melatonin is as effective as amitriptyline at preventing migraines. Benadryl is also useful if not directly but by cutting down on other symptoms that increase migraine pain (Benadryl is in section E: helpful add ons).

Obviously, neither of these are specifically for nighttime migraines but unless you like randomly passing out during the day, taking them before bed is a good idea. I’ve taken melatonin in the past and had wacky enough dreams that I felt like I was always awake. When I recently retook it, I’m taking one with l-theanine. That combined with taking one Benadryl has cut back on my remembering of weird dreams (I’m sure they’re still happening). I’ve also had a marked improvement in my number of headache days.

u/nijoli · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I highly highly highly recommend using melatonin to sleep when camping. I don't use it much other times, but a boost to your snooze is something worth thinking about when trying to sleep with rocks underneath you and weird sounds, you know? They sell it for pretty cheap on Amazon and there are not drowsy side effects. You will wake up totally refreshed and ready for the great outdoors!

u/doraeminemon · 2 pointsr/realasians

Mask have their interesting side of give you the illusion / fantasy of any face you would like.

But maybe a more interesting mask would be fun. I know Korean are quite creative and I have seen some funky eye cover with funny decorations ( like this http://www.amazon.com/Silly-Sleeping-Funny-Novelty-Random/dp/B0040HR8WW ) so I would imagine it wouldn't be hard on you to have something more attractive while remain anon.

Buy a white noise machine like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAPB57J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-wVoDb2RYJFV6

Sounds just like a fan (cause it has one inside) with an adjustable volume but is small and easy to travel with! It can get pretty loud...definitely louder than a regular box fan. Seriously we just bought this exact one a week ago and it’s fantastic! It will be going with us on our cruise next month to drown out hallway and adjacent room noises...plus the nightlight will be good for the kids.

u/Illinijuice07 · 3 pointsr/chicago

I use a white noise machine that works really well. I live right on Michigan Ave in the loop and don't have any issues with outside noise at all with the white noise machine on.

I use this one White Noise Machine but there are some good apps you can download for free and try it out. I use an app for when I'm on the road travelling but prefer the linked white noise machine better.

If it's distracting you find a new version of meditation. but if you enjoy the darkness i'd look into grabbing a mind fold. They're pretty great I use them for most of my longer meditations. no pressure of the eye lids , soft foam that shapes to the face, very little light gets through. They were made by a visionary artist to aid his journeying (later sold the patent).https://www.amazon.com/MindFold-Relaxation-Mask/dp/B010WC5UNW/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1550790089&sr=8-2&keywords=mindfold

u/turquoisestar · 1 pointr/BurningMan

I love the wax ear plugs you can get at Walgreens because they're more comfortable to wear daily unlike mack's. I'm a light sleeper living in an active home near a bus line, who shares a room with someone that wakes up at 4. I also use a sound machine which at home uses USB but I can take camping bc it has batteries. I also use this sleep mask: Mindfold Blackout Sleeping Mask https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010WC5UNW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7c6uCbZAWKDRQ. It's literally pitch black under there, which was especially helpful when I shared a dual bunkbed room with ppl who would leave lights on at 3am. Finally, getting some exercise during the day by biking, avoiding caffeine, and making sure you're not overly hot while sleeping are all important. And if you need to take a shot of alcohol, melatonin, or a Benadryl. Alcohol does fuck with the rem cycle tho, so sleep will be less beneficial.

u/redditlady999 · 1 pointr/relationship_advice

OK. Say you believe me - it will take you one step closer to the reality of this discussion.

And thanks for the concern about my sleeping habits! I recently bought an eye mask for my husband on amazon because HE has trouble sleeping when I have the bedside lamp on.

https://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Mask-Design-PrettyCare-Sleeping/dp/B019JY9BO8/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1486926542&sr=8-10&keywords=eye+mask

He declined to wear the mask so I use it - and it makes a huge difference in the way I sleep. The quality of sleep is better, judging from how refreshed I feel in the morning.

Might as well get something useful out of this discussion...

u/Buddy_Satan · 10 pointsr/funny

This has always perplexed me. In my experience, you teach your kids these habits by catering to their every whim. Haha, let me be a hypocrite and cater to their whims in a different way. White Noise machines are a gift from Odin. They help drown out noise that you can’t control (barking dogs, loud vehicles, etc.) It won’t help with sick or teething little people, but it’ll mitigate at least one variable. My wife and I give them as gifts to parents with new babies. As my seven year old said as he watched his infant brother, “It’s like he’s saying, ‘I NEVER ASKED TO BE BORN-ed!’” Good luck and goodnight!

u/blackberrybramble · 2 pointsr/solotravel

Some of my favorite Amazon items that I've purchased for my solo trips:

-- Selfie stick/ tripod with bluetooth remote (which is nice when there's no one around to take a photo for me)

-- These amazing silicone earplugs that block out all noise and make for a good night's sleep.

-- Luggage locks

-- Some sort of compact travel pillow for flights/train rides

-- A good sleep mask

Consider this list:
http://www.rit.edu/fa/housing/sites/rit.edu.fa.housing/files/docs/publications/whattobring-residencehalls.pdf

Here's some nice stuff to have, but it's not needed:

  • Something to make boiling water that has an auto-shutoff, either a kettle or coffee maker.
  • Laundry detergent. It's expensive stuff, but you don't need much. Try sharing!
  • A "doorstop." I heard something about using a fork...
  • Food. Anything from home is always welcome, and if you don't have a car, much cheaper.
  • A box of 200 earplugs. Kind of optional, but I'm a light sleeper.
  • Something to block out the light at night.
  • Winter clothes, sooner than you think.
  • Headphones.
  • A fan is very important for non-ACd dorms, for those killer first two and last two weeks of the year.

Only one of these per room. Having two or more is a waste of space:

  • Fridge.
  • Television. You don't need this though. (use a computer monitor if you're a serious gamer)
  • Anything that large/expensive. Pack lighter than you think.

    Stuff I didn't need:

  • Printer. With careful planning printing is free in the NRH computer lab, and many departments have a deal for printing. If you tend to forget until the last second, a printer can be a life-saver.
  • Silverware/bowls. Take-out is king and most microwavable stuff comes in bowls. If you're going to make stuff for yourself in the microwave one bowl is helpful. However, just get some disposable forks from on-campus dining.
u/peony_chalk · 12 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Did your doctor specifically recommend the adhesive nasal strips because they're the superior option, or do you think one of the in-nose varieties like this or this would solve both the breathing and "I don't want adhesive stuck to my face every night for the rest of my life" problems? (Unfortunately, these might exacerbate the attractiveness problem, though.)

I bought the ones in the second link last year, and honestly, I don't love them. Usually if my nose is stuffed up enough for me to use them, it's stuffed up enough that they don't help. They also seem to fall out in the middle of the night half the time, or my subconscious brain instructs my hand to remove them from my nose at 3am. If you're just trying to open your nose a bit wider though, they do indeed serve that function.

u/Yokuo · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I've got random add-ons in my food list, as well as a few in other places. These Melatonin Tablets are a huge priority though, since I've been having trouble sleeping and these could help with that. So, if I win, please surprise me, but make the Tablets part of it. :)

Those Himalaya's of the mind!

u/absolute_illin · 1 pointr/schizophrenia

My former psychiatrist's office had these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DJL3Y8K/ref=emc_b_5_t

They make a nice "whooshing" sound; similar to a giant fan in the room, but with no airflow. Best doc's office ever, set me completely at ease.

I forgot that I wanted one.

u/sleuthmeister · 13 pointsr/migraine

it won’t drip water in your eyes and it straps so you can walk around/roll around at ease... but are only cold for like 45 min. I have six. My best find so far.

u/kcrn15 · 2 pointsr/nursing

There is the sleep like normal and add a afternoon nap method, or the stay up all night and sleep all day method. I prefer the first.

You basically just sleep on the days between shifts. When you want to go back to days you sleep until the afternoon after a night shift, then wake up for the rest of the day and go to bed at your normal night hour.

Nights since 2010ish

Edit: Agree with blackout curtains or an eye mask like this- https://www.amazon.com/OriHea-Sleeping-Patented-Comfortable-Blindfold/dp/B078KCH1CM/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=face+mask+blackout&qid=1554714866&s=gateway&sr=8-5

Also can consider something like benadryl or melatonin as a sleep aid.

We have a couple of these, just plugged into a standard smart outlet - actually with a humidifier on each too.

A while back I ordered six different sleep masks to try out. I'm a side and sometimes stomach sleeper and most of them just don't work for that. Settled on this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S5Q826U/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. The reasons I like it - it's thin for side-sleeping. It's large and fits well to block light coming in from edges. It blocks most direct light unless you're out in direct sunlight - then a little gets through.

The others I tried were: the tempurpedic, nidra, two different dream essentials, and bedtime bliss. The free ones from airlines are junk. They don't block much light, don't fit, and break after a couple of uses.

u/lifeson106 · 40 pointsr/lifehacks

This is my favorite type of melatonin: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007RC6ZSA

It has not only melatonin, but also L-theanine, chamomile flower extract, passion flower extract and lemon balm leaf extract - all of which are natural sleep aids.

I'm exactly like you. The lack of sleep is my main issue. These 2 have worked very well for me and I used to take Ambien a few months back.

I take 2 of each before I go to bed and when I wake up (1 of each). Does not make me groggy. Good luck!

All time favorite was my Logitech mx518 mouse. Got it in 2011, still going strong.

Also I have to say, looking back through my history I realize I have lost a lot of the books I've bought... Makes me kinda sad.

Well, shoulder pain is the worst for bed time. I know I have RA. So understand how you feel.

A few things to consider.

  1. 500mg of phenubit 1-2 hrs before bed.

  2. Also I suggest a Tempur-Pedic pillow if you will be laying on your back it was a life saver for me when I had to do the same.

  3. 3d sleep masks with super soft ear plugs that come with them. See link below for details.

    Good luck

nasal strips at night make a huge difference

I've also tried these which are good but fall out

And these which were not comfy to me

I think you can't do much else but these products help. Btw a rhinoplasty is generally cosmetic and doesn't fix a deviated septum. You're looking for a septoplasty. I had one but unfortunately was unlucky and it re-deviated back to how it was.

Edit: also a pro tip you can usually see a deviated septum more clearly if you look at the nostrils.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/AskReddit

These are what I use. It's not really a trick, but they definitely help me fall asleep during the week so I'm not up until midnight or 1 am.

Foam Earplugs

Sleep Sound Machine

One product helps prevent you from hearing so much noise when you sleep.
The other helps replace or mask unpleasant sounds with pleasant ones.

You WILL get used to it - I promise.

u/castironfan · 2 pointsr/castiron

I think that's pretty much as good as it gets. I prefer to order lye labeled as 'food grade', but it probably doesn't matter.

This looks promising: https://www.amazon.com/Grade-Sodium-Hydroxide-Micro-Beads/dp/B00YPKD3Z0/ref=sr_1_9_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1525816326&sr=8-9&keywords=lye

u/Em42 · 3 pointsr/tifu

I think this is the cheapest one actually made by the company on Amazon, it's important to get a real one, they use a fan instead of a digital noise generator, so the noise is non repeating. Basically it's not exactly white noise, it's more what they call pink noise, like having a small fountain in your room would also be pink noise, a soothing sound that doesn't repeat. The problem with digital machines is that they repeat, which can be as annoying for some people as what they're trying to cover up.

Natural Calm or Natural Calm Sleep. You need to keep on top of your electrolytes and these are good sources of magnesium.

u/disco_rice · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

We’ve used a Dohm since our kid was a newborn. He’s almost two now and it still goes on during naps and bedtimes. It’s great because it has a more “mechanical” whirring noise (think white noise on an airplane flight) and it isn’t fancy at all—just plug it in and choose low or high. No internet connection needed. It’s great at muffling any background noise going on in the house so we don’t have to tiptoe around when he’s sleeping.

u/blackhaloangel · 1 pointr/blogsnark

That would do send me into insomnia. I saw that you're using melatonin. Are you putting on white noise? This is pricey but fantastic.

u/SJKoeh · 1 pointr/insomnia

I would second cutting back on drinking - that's one of the only things that's really helped me sleep better. But for what it's worth, it took a while (like 2 months?) for me to really feel a difference there.

I used to take these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0026KLHEU supplements that are a combo of melatonin, chamomile and some other herbs. They worked so well for about 6 months (for a little while I took one every night, then just a few times a week), but lately they have been making me feel miserable in the morning even when I get the sleep cycle timing right and get plenty of sleep.

Friends of mine that are in medical school have been talking about magnesium a lot lately, so I'm going to try that one next but am interested to see what works for other people too!

u/teffflon · 2 pointsr/synthesizers

Some, like this one explicitly feature an audio jack. I think it could be fun to design a performance setup entirely from this sort of pablum home electronics.

Those. I take 1 at night when I need to get a good night's sleep. Usually I only need it on sunday night or monday night (after staying up way too late all weekend) and then I'll get in my groove.

Just be aware, when I first started taking these, I had some VIVID fucking dreams. It was scary sometimes.

And thanks.

I got some hot/cold gel-bead packs for my first aid kit and found they make something similar just for the eyes. Another thing is just to stay hydrated, which a lot of people tend to forget about in the winter. Winters where I'm from are cold and super DRY, so hydration is very important.

We have two of these: Homedics SS-3000 Soundspa Lullaby. They have a timer that goes for 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes and they have lasted for a while (one we have had for 5 years). The only issue we have had is the lightbulb burnt out, but we don't use that for a night-light, it is too bright.

u/grunthos503 · 1 pointr/askanelectrician

> It's not that they're overheating, it's that they claim the noise wakes them up.

It likely wakes them up when it cycles on and off. One solution could be to get them a white noise generator, which should mask out other background noises like the space heater cycling.

For example https://www.amazon.com/HemingWeigh-White-Noise-sound-Machine/dp/B01NAPB57J

When I first started using Natural Calm (just the regular variety) it would put me right to sleep. I think I'm acclimated to it now, since it no longer has that effect. That said, that brand (Natural Vitality) does have a magnesium supplement with a sleep aid. I've never tried it but I plan to once I'm finished with my container of Calm.

You could simply take a melatonin tablet ~20-45 mins. before bedtime. Throw in some magnesium if you like.

I have been told that the best use of melatonin isn't to take it before bed, but rather earlier in the day. I don't know why my doc said this.

Melatonin makes some people a bit groggy in the morning. Some people find that it messes up their sleep cycle, and they wake up during the night. At any rate, you don't need to take it in liquid form.

u/JarVoMarGo · 2 pointsr/GetMotivated

I personally take one small hit before I go to bed every night but if that's not on the table I recommend Melatonin

u/elryanoo · 1 pointr/The_Donald

sodium hydroxide they can get pretty much anywhere.

u/pigeon_man · 1 pointr/Fitness

i use this. seems to help me a bit, though i usually don't have much trouble staying asleep once i get there.

u/Mentalhelp89 · 4 pointsr/migraine

Yeah totally! I have two of these, just standard ones , one like this, that’s clay, and one like this, that covers the sinuses too.

I have no idea why heat on the feet and ice on the head works so damn well but it really does!

u/ParkingPsychology · 1 pointr/Advice

Order melatonin on Amazon.

I've been using it for a few year, it has no side effects, it's cheap and it works great.

u/peaches0101 · 2 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

The easiest and cheapest thing to try first would be to buy a decent sleep mask for whomever it is being kept up by the light. If they can get used to sleeping in it you won't have to do any more. Amazon

u/GroovyGrove · 1 pointr/castiron

Ok, sounds like I'm overthinking it (typical). I didn't really think "food grade" made sense either, but that is what I saw. Here's an example on Amazon.

u/imaginary-eyes · 14 pointsr/beyondthebump

Yeah, the Dohm (which I see/hear used a lot - we have 2) is actually pink noise and not white noise. But most people don’t know about the colors so they call it white noise.

https://marpac.com/blogs/give-sleep-a-chance-blog/pink-noise-vs-white-noise

u/calvano915 · 1 pointr/Frugal

I use this one for ~$6 on Amazon. It is a comfy material and it has extra padding under the eyes which keeps the mask off my face a bit and helps with blocking light out. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SKXRNO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/Crimdusk · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

The Lewis N. Clark Comfort Eye Mask has a pillow that runs along the bottom to block just such light intrusions. Would recommend. It's made of a cloth material; occasionally i'll prefer my silk one - but this is my 'daily driver'.

u/iexpectspamfromyou · 4 pointsr/flashlight

Alternatives:

  • Read e-books on a backlit tablet
  • Audio books (Audible is great)
  • Eyemask (this one is quite comfortable).
  • Fall asleep without reading

u/scumteam14 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

That's a tough one! I did a sub search and the recommendations include:

  • using in-nose breathing aids like this

  • putting a hydrocolloid bandage on your nose and adhering the strip to that instead of directly on the skin

  • trying different varieties, maybe other types use different adhesives that are less bothersome

  • cleaning your nose thoroughly after the strip is removed

  • seeing if an ENT can fix the issue so you don't need to use the strips
u/Musical_life · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Either this or this, I haven't been sleeping well here lately.

u/saruin · 3 pointsr/Nootropics

Why bother with that process when the pill form is already cheap? That's just the 3mg dosage but there are others.

u/BetterByOne · 1 pointr/sleep

A sleep mask (this one by Alaska Bear, if you're curious).

What kind of earplugs do you use? I find the foam ones are too uncomfortable for me to wear all night. I currently use EarJellies when traveling, but I can't seem to get them in place correctly very consistently.

u/jspurlin03 · 5 pointsr/whatisthisthing

Appear to be this Marpac Dohm machine, specifically.

Perhaps they’re turned down to a really low volume when you’re around them?

u/L345H · 1 pointr/tifu

Buy one of these for her to turn on in the room you're in when she needs to go. https://www.amazon.com/Marpac-Classic-White-Noise-Machine/dp/B07BQYMNLF/?th=1

EDIT: I forgot to add that I have a friend who will not use the bathroom at my house because I don't have a lock on the bathroom door. These problems run deep as they're developed at such a young age when embarrassment happens and gets set in stone.

u/jayseesee85 · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

add-ons are pesky

Though someone let me know you can order something unreleased, and an add-on, then cancel the unreleased later. I figure that's abuse though. And that's bad.

Gunna have to go with this at $7.99 off of my Random Stuff list. Sleep sounds really nice.
