Welcome back!

Here's my list of suggestions, why, and links to where to get them. A few are only available on computer, but you'll see which ones:

  • Thomas Was Alone (Meta. A cute puzzle game about AIs, and their relationship to the game and developers. It's simple in graphics and big on heart. = computer - itunes - android
  • The Stanley Parable (another meta game. About the players role in games itself and their relationship to the developers. This is a MUST HAVE for anyone who is really into games. It's fantastic, hilarious and oddly artsy) = computer -
  • Telltale's "The Walking Dead" seasons 1 & 2. (These are some of the best games I've played. Point and Click adventure games that everyone loves, even those who don't like point and click games. They are extremely emotional and heart-pounding. I recommend it highly, especially if you want a game that you can watch him play, or vice versa, and really get a fantastic story. Storyline continues based on your decisions in the previous game) = SEASON ONE: computer - PS3 - XBOX360 - PSVITA - iPhone/iPad (first episode free, others are in-game purchases, same with all the mobile games) - Android === SEASON 2: computer - PS3 - XBOX360 - iPhone/iPad - Android
  • To The Moon (sweet looking 16 bit game that is more of an interactive story. It routinely makes people cry because it's so darned sweet. Love is a central theme.) = computer
  • Borderlands 2 and/or Borderlands the PreSequel (both fun and funny FPS games that you can run coop if you like) = BORDERLANDS 2: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 === BORDERLANDS PRESEQUEL: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Portal (fun and funny puzzle game - but he MAY have already played this if the Half-Life 2 he got was the full "The Orange Box")
  • Portal 2 (also fun and funny, but with a coop mode as well) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Fallout 3 and/or Fallout: New Vegas (Post apocolypic games that are fun and often funny. They are open world RPGs with FPS playing style, although you can switch to 3rd person. Fallout 3 is more epic, grand and is more metropolitan, and Fallout New Vegas is more like a spaghetti western, intimate, and has better writing/storyline in my opinion) = FALLOUT 3: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 == FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Mass Effect 1, 2, & 3 (RPG/FPS set the future, in space, where the storyline continues, using your decisions from the previous games) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Red Dead Redemption (an open world RPG/FPS that takes pages from both spaghetti westerns and film noir. If you get this, be sure to get the add on called "Undead Nightmare", where you fight Zombies and meet mythical creatures. The base game is more artsy, and Undead Nightmare is just a squat load of fun.) The links that follow have both thenormal game, and Undead Nightmare in one. = XBOX360 - PS3

  • A different idea is to actually get him a wireless controller for his phone! If he has an Andriod, I would suggest the Power A Moga Hero Power It's portable, holds the phone, and I just am in love with mine. And because I have an Andriod, I can download ROMs to play older games like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, etc etc. But the controller works with SO many games! If he has an iPhone or iPad, or if you want another option for Android, I would go with the iPega. I don't have one, but it has the highest reviews.

As for if you should give 1 or 2 gifts, I think 2 might be a lot of fun! But it might depend on what the "1st place" person has on their list and what you want to give them! I'd say make the decision based off of what you want to give the main winner! =)

    ===========

EDIT - 3DS Games to consider:

  • Fire Emblem: Awakening - it's one of the best RPGs out for the 3DS. It's immersive and epic. Top reviews across the board.
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf because everyone loves it so much and it's just adorable.
  • Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney because anything Phoenix Wright related is flipping amazing and totally fun.
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance A great option if he's played other Kingdom Hearts games.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Especially if he's into Zelda, I agree with others that this is a nice option. Top-down action that returns to Zelda's roots.

edit 2: P.S: I'm new. I'll be making an intro post hopefully tonight! So hopefully it's alright that I posted here first. I was just excited, as I'm a gamer and love helping people with what to play next. In any event... HI!!

edit 3: I just made my [INTRO] post. It's here if you/anyone's interested.

I would find a good mouse you like, so you aren't using a touch pad. I highly recommend the new logitech mice that have their new sensor. I personally have never used a mouse with a better sensor. Any of these three mice are good. I recommend the logitech g pro if you don't know what preference in style you have for your mouse. It's pretty close to what you would be use to in standard mice.

Make sure you download steam for all your gaming needs. There are alternatives, but since you are newer to PC I highly recommend using steam as your main platform. Also they are having an awesome winter sale right now! Perfect time to pick up games at super cheap.

http://store.steampowered.com/

I highly recommend turning off "enhanced pointer precision" which is normally turned on by default on windows machines.

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/enhance-pointer-precision-windows

I would also ensure that your computer is using the "balanced" power save option.

http://www.howtogeek.com/240840/should-you-use-the-balanced-power-saver-or-high-performance-power-plan-on-windows/

I recommend getting good, preferably free, anti-virus. Everyone has their own preferences. I use Avast. Just avoid McAfee.

Picking up a new browser, so you don't use internet explorer, is a good idea. I recommend google chrome because it has enough built in features where you don't need to be "in the know" to get what you need out of it.

If you do pick up google chrome, you should pick up an add blocker for it as well. Blocks advertisements everywhere and stops you from having to watch advertisements at the beginning of youtube videos.

And to wrap it up I'd download the battle.net launcher from blizzard. Blizzard has lots of very good games, like overwatch, hearthstone, wow, etc.

http://us.battle.net/en/app/

I personally use a program called f.lux which makes your monitor more friendly for your eyes at night. It makes it easier to fall asleep after being on your PC late at night. I highly recommend using this if you game at night.

Now just find some games you want to play. Here are some of the most popular games on PC(based on players playing the game at the moment). That I would recommend. Everyone has their own preferences, and sorry if I'm explaining this like you know nothing. I'm not sure what information you are looking for exactly or your knowledge level.

Battle Net Games

Overwatch(Multiplayer PVP focus - fantastic FPS highly recommend)

Hearthstone(free to play card game - if you like trading card games play this!)

Steam Games

Skyrim(Single Player)

Witcher(Single Player)

Total War: WARHAMMER(Strategy Game)

Civilization 6(Strategy Game)

Terraria(2d Minecraft)

Paladins(PVP Free to play game)

Path Of Exile(Free to play Diablo2 like game)

Rust(Multiplayer Survival game)

Ark(Multiplayer dinosaur survival game)

Stardew Valley(Top down run your own farm RPG game, think Harvest Moon)

Dark Souls 1,2,3(Hardcore mostly singleplayer action RPG)

War Thunder(Free to play WW2 plane/tank PVP game, multiplayer)

Binding of Isaac: Rebirth(roguelike, top down like old zelda games - highly recommend this game)

Cities: Skylines(better version of Sim city)

Rainbow Six Siege( tactical FPS pvp, multiplayer)

Stand Alone Games That Don't Use A Launcher

Minecraft

League Of Legends

League Of Legends is one of the most played games in the world, competing against overwatch. It is called a MOBA, you've probably heard of it, and it's at least worth checking out if you have a friend to play with.

edit: Also finding a headset is very important, I always point to HyperX headsets if you need a microphone to talk to people. They are comfortable, sound good, and won't break the bank. If you don't need a mic just pick up a nice pair of sennheiser headphones. Also sorry for any grammar issues and just the wall of text. I just started typing and kept going. If you have any questions feel free to ask, hope you like your pc!

First, I agree with everyone else so far. The most important things are screen protector, micro SD card, and a carrying case. Second, what you buy will depend on how you will primarily play. If you are using it as your home console on a TV, you'll need different accessories than if you are going to play while travelling. And if you play while travelling, are you going to play tabletop with joycons detached or in handheld mode? Or you can do all 3 and buy everything :)

For the essentials, here's what I'm using right now

Butterfox Case: link

For your travel case, consider what you want with you. The case I use is great to throw in a backpack and have my Switch with me for quick gaming. If you want to travel with a dock so you can actually play everywhere with friends, you'll want something to accommodate that.

Screen Protector: link

One note on the micro SD card. You'll definitely want one with a good amount of storage if you plan on going digital. If you are mostly physical, you can get away with not having one for a while, but you'll probably need one. When purchasing one, make sure you get one from a reputable source. I just watched a YouTube video yesterday on how easy it is to essentially hack a micro SD card to say it has a lot more storage than it actually has. So anything extremely cheap coming from China might not be what you want.

For other accessories that are alittle more exciting, here's a list of the things I also recommend:

Portable Charger: You'll need one that has enough power to charge the Switch. Here's two that I have found work well. The Anker charger is significantly more expensive than the RAVPower, and neither are really cheap, but you'll get a lot of use out of it, and they can work for other electronic devices as well.

Anker

RAVPower

Portable Stand: The Switch's kickstand is pretty bad for tabletop mode. It's not adjustable and you cannot charge at the same time. Getting a portable stand fixes both of these problems. One like this is my personal favorite portable stand. You get more viewing angles than the plastic folding ones and you can use this with multiple devices as well. However, the Hori one or one similar to that works perfectly fine as well.

Pro Controller or Extra Joy Cons: Depends on your preference. I'd go with the Pro Controller if you're planning on playing mostly single player games. The extra set of Joy Cons are nice for multiplayer though as it allows 2 people to play with full controllers, or 4 people to play with a single joy con (aka Mario Kart).

If you go with the extra Joy Cons, I'd also suggest Joy Con Grips. While they might not look the best, it is a significant upgrade to holding the Joy Cons by themselves. They work perfectly fine for multiplayer Mario Kart.

As for games, with you just getting the Switch, I'd probably just stick with Odyssey and BotW for now. There's more than enough content for probably a couple of months depending on how quick you play through the stories. But if you're looking for multiplayer games, I'd probably start with Mario Kart. It's a classic that almost everyone loves and can play up to 4 players. Splatoon 2 is probably my next favorite to play besides Odyssey and BotW if that's your type of game and you really want something else. But everyone is different so if something stands out to you, then you'll probably know better than me what you'd like!

I looked online and saw prices ranging from $300-500. Is there any difference between these consoles other than the skin?

The $300 base model of the Nintendo Switch (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LTHP2ZK/) does not include any games, but is still what you should most likely buy. More expensive models may have games bundled or free in-game currency (e.g. Fortnite), but they shouldn't be more than $350 (plus tax). At $360, you're not really saving any money, and anything more expensive than THAT is from a third party trying to make a quick buck. The console itself currently has few variations; most of your customization will depend on what color controllers you get with the console.

What type of accessories am I going to need?

This depends on your use case. I'd recommend getting a screen protector (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/). If you expect to bring the Switch out of the house a lot, also get a case (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MR63I6F/). Anything else, like special controllers (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GXG/) or a dock cover (https://www.etsy.com/listing/560319070/), is largely unnecessary right now; look into them when you find you need extra joy-cons (https://smile.amazon.comdp/B078GZM4H8/) or a tabletop stand (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS/) for your Switch. In the end, you should not be spending more than $400 for the Switch, one game, and core accessories.

As for games, so far I planned on buying Smash Bros, Let's Go Pikachu, and One's Justice. Can you recommend any other games? I was never into Zelda but hear the new game is very good.

How old is your kid? Super Mario Odyssey (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MY7GHKJ/) is fun, and has a great co-op mode if you want to play together. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also always a blast (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N1037CV/). I'm also a huge fan of Splatoon 2 (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9QVIRV/), but it's probably better for older kids because it requires more dexterity. There's lots of games to recommend, but it'll help to know what your kid already likes... or what you want your kid to like ;)

Side note: To play online, you need Nintendo Switch Online (https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/). It's $20 a year for one ACCOUNT, or $35 a year for 8 accounts. Each account also has separate save files, if multiple people will be playing on the same Switch. Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart both have online modes, but Splatoon's primary game modes are online-only.

Whats the difference between mario party and mario space odyssey?

Super Mario Odyssey is an action-platformer for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Party is a virtual board game for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Galaxy is an action-platformer for the Wii, a completely different console.

Let us know if you have follow-up questions!

First off I'll simply say if you're looking for a game that you can sit down and play for hours on end, avoid the Animal Crossing games(at least the first one and the newest one) unless you're the type of person who enjoys messing around with making clothing designs or just wandering around enjoying the sights.

If you have experience with the AC franchise after the first game, I can't give a good review compared to anything but the first game as I've never played the sequels, but as someone who was really hoping for something very similar to the first, it was more than worth my purchase.

What is there to do?
The game is entirely in "real time" based on your 3DS clock, so if your clock is set to, say, 10PM, when you start up the game, it'll be 10PM in game as well and most of the shops will be closed and many of the villagers asleep(this can be changed a little, more on that later. Some villagers also stay up longer than others but others also may go to bed earlier than others).
Edit Holidays/events also happen every so often. Things ranging from fishing or bug catching contests, to a summer solstice to an april fool's day event and many many more. Some aren't terribly game changing(the solstice, for example, making it just look like it's day time even at midnight and making villagers stay out very late) while others like the catching contests can give you plenty to do during the day it's going on.

Disregarding time restrictions, you can run around and collect fruit to sell, talk to villagers(more on that later also), visit shops to buy clothing, furniture, wallpapers, carpets, etc etc. Over the course of a week or two, so long as you're playing regularly, you'll likely unlock an island that you can visit to do mini games and(if you're so inclined) collect a crap load of bugs/fish to rake in easy bells(the currency in game).

Speaking of bugs and fish, catching them is a major part of the game as well as not only is there a museum to donate them to to eventually reach 100% with it, but they're also a major source of money, especially early game with the "mainland" bugs.

Regarding my earlier comment about being able to change the times shops open, this is because you're the mayor of the town on the first character you create. You'll be allowed to enact ordinances such as making the town a "night owl" town which causes shops to close later and villagers to stay up later, make a "rich town" making things sell for larger amounts, but also making buy prices go higher, and a few others. You'll also be able to create "public work" projects which amount to you building things such as simple light posts, wells and bridges to things like a campsite, a police station and a club, to name a few of them.

One of, if not
the* main draw of the games, though, are the villagers. There's dozens of potential villagers in game and upon making your village you're randomly assigned 4(I think) and can have a maximum number of 9(10 I think with the campsite but that one's temporary). Villagers can move out and be replaced with other random ones so you'll rarely be wanting for variety, though it can lead to some sad times if a favorite moves out unexpectedly. Personality wise there's about 8 or so "types", 4 for each gender, that they can act as, though it may just be me, but it seems very much like each individual one also has their own unique mannerisms to a degree. You can talk to them every day, be given "quests" ranging from picking fruit for them, delivering items for them and going to their house(so nothing too epic or anything). They'll sometimes, if you're on your mayor, also ask you to build certain things for them. There's other things you can do with them, but that should give you a relatively quick overview of them.

Other than the villagers moving in and out, the town also evolves to a degree. After spending certain amounts of bells at certain places or doing other things, the "main street" area which is the main area for shopping will expand it's buildings or add new ones for you to use.

A big time sink for many people is the clothing as well. Not only can you collect various types like shirts, pants, shoes, socks, glasses, helmets, etc etc, but you can also make your own designs for shirts and dresses. On the 3DS they've also included a QR system in which you'll eventually unlock the ability to download QR codes that are all over the net and even upload your own.

The other main draw of the game is the housing system. Upon arriving at the town you'll be given a house that you can pay off the loan for and, if desired expand it several times. You can obviously collect and fill it with furniture but also now customize the outside, from the fence around it, to the mailbox, to the walls and roof and door. A fun system is also the feng shui which can give you better luck with various in game mechanics by putting colored pieces of furniture in the "correct" places in your house. You'll also eventually get to have your house graded each day based on various factors.

Sorry for the long post, but that should basically sum up everything you can expect from the game, for the most part. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions, too!

Verdict: If you enjoy games that are pretty primarily geared towards a more casual "pick up for an hour a day" style, then I'd say definitely go for the game as it's worth the money. Totalbiscuit described it well, in my opinion, in saying that it boils down to basically being a "daily quest", but you don't actually have to do anything each day as the only way in which that harms you is that some things may take longer to build. All in all it's a game about having fun, not challenging yourself or trying to overcome obstacles. You can set your own goals, but nothing in the game is really "forced" on you after the tutorial, and even then you don't have to do the entire thing.

EDIT The game's also on sale for about $5 off on Amazon at the moment. http://www.amazon.com/Animal-Crossing-New-Leaf-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B0053BCML6

People might shit on me here for sounding like a shill in a moment but I promise you I've got no affiliations with either of the products I will mention here. As much as that may mean nothing to you, it's the truth and I wanted to at least say it.

And I went on that ramble above because the first thing I'm going to recommend to you is buying KontrolFreaks, QCQ for left and a comfortable "ultra" for the right. These will let you control the sticks with more space to move, you will be able to make smaller adjustments without a (significant) loss to your ability to make fast ones.

Second, buy a "Strike Pack F.P.S", it will add easily assignable paddles to your controller as well as turning it into an actual wired control with actual wired controller input latency (plugging in a USB normally does not make it wired, it's still working wirelessly and simply also charging). Note though that this thing has "mod" capability (as far as I can tell, straight up cheats), do not even think about using them, you could probably get banned for it. Just leave it in "tournament mode" and all "mods" are 100% disabled and it just uses the paddles. I play puppeteer and you should too, if you don't the following recommendation wont apply to you, but you'll get the idea. You're going to set the left paddle to X (jump) and the right paddle to Δ (swap weapons). This is going to open some doors for you, now you can aim while you're jumping in the air (actually aim), this is going to let you get around the map faster with better movement/jumps as well as do things like hopping above entrances and blasting the cap of other players. It's also going to let you swap weapons while you are aiming in preparation to use them as well as while sliding, this is vital to shotgunning/snipping effectively. The goal here is that the only time your fingers leave the sticks is if aiming is literally not important at all, like when reloading or emoting. You can totally go buy a custom controller if you want to, but when it breaks it's broken and you either have to replace the whole thing or get it sent in for repair, with this attachment though, if it dies it's not expensive to replace (and it's well built imo, I'd imagine some kind of internal failure is more likely than paddle failure) and if your controller dies you can just pop it off and put it on the new one. To me it seems like the cheaper and better option, but if you really like custom controllers or have tons of cash maybe that's the better choice, your call, either way you need paddles.

Next, put your sensitivity on at least 7, I would put it to 8. Relax, relax, now that you've got your control freaks on this will feel more like 5 or 6 (or 7-8 if you jumped to 10). I play on 10 with them, but I never would without them. This is going to let you have that mobility you need to improve, it'll stop you from breaking your neck every time a shotgun ape jumps over you, and with your better ability to actually use all angles of the stick you'll be able to track these things. It is going to take you time to adjust to this, you've got new weird sticks, your sensitivity is bumped, and you've moved buttons you used to use your thumb for. It's gonna be wack, it's gonna make you want to return everything, just hold on and take a breath. Now take another, because over the next couple weeks as you relearn how to play you'll find yourself pulling moves and thinking, "huh, never could have done that before." It will be worth it. Oh and make sure you have traction on your boots, I'm sure (based on your sensitivity) that you hate this perk, but now is the time to learn to use it because it opens the door for your improvement and the reason you hate it is because you haven't stepped through that door.

This is going to give you a higher mechanical skill cap, you will, on paper, be able to do more and play better. The next few weeks of practice are about rising to meet that cap, it really won't take all that long and the new mechanical skill cap will be worth it. The rest after that is learning to take what you already have ("My strengths are map/radar/audio awareness, quick reactions and outsmarting the opponent") and implementing those strengths better in the game now that you have a larger tool box (faster/constant aiming and mobility), that will take longer, that's the infinite grind, but at least you won't be handicapped by your controls.

EDIT: If you think paddles are not critical, go ask any PC player if they would willingly take their hand off of their mouse every single time they wanted to jump/reload/swap weapons. You will be laughed out of the room. Paddles alleviate most of that issue, don't sleep on them.

There are many great mice on the market in your price range, but there's a lot of information (and marketing) to sift through. I hope this post helps.

The most important part of a mouse is its sensor, which is responsible for maintaining 1:1 tracking at all speeds. As of today (2015-01-17) the best sensors are the 3366, 3310, and S3989; this limits your choices significantly but ensures that you will be getting the best mouse possible. Below are some mice and information (and my own, biased thoughts) about them. Ultimately, you will have to decide on a mouse based on your own set of priorities and needs / wants.

First, the Razer DeathAdder Chroma. This is a 5-button right-handed ergonomic mouse with a good sensor, acceptable weight, and RGB lighting. However, the top edges are oddly shaped, there are rubber side grips, you have to use the Razer Synapse software, the clicks are extremely light (causing some people to accidentally misclick), it has a braided cable (frays), and Razer is known for its extremely poor quality control. A good mouse, certainly, but there are major flaws which prevent me from recommending this mouse.

Logitech mice are known for their excellent build quality and high-quality sensors, but they are oddly-shaped. The Logitech mice to consider are the G303 and G502 (there's an updated G502 with RGB lighting, too). Both of these mice use the 3366 sensor, which is slightly better than the 3310. Based on shape alone, however, I can't recommend these mice. The G303 is very small, and the G502 is heavy and awkwardly-shaped and such that I would accidentally click the two front side buttons. They also come with a braided cable (frays) and require software for configuration.

Next is the SteelSeries Rival 300. RGB lighting, 5 buttons, light weight, etc., but has a rubber side grip and uses software. The new revision supposedly fixed the wear issues with the rubber side, so there's nothing really wrong with this mouse, but I think there are better options.

The FinalMouse 2016 is simply a 3310 sensor in a cheap OEM shell - I'd look elsewhere. They're coming out with the "Tournament Pro" and "Scream One" editions, but I wouldn't have high hopes for these.

The Ducky Secret is an interesting one, but largely untested and unreviewed. Ducky is known for their high-quality mechanical keyboards (I'm typing this on a Ducky Shine 3), but this is their first mouse. Good sensor, RGB lighting, separate left and right buttons, a shell made of PBT (higher-quality plastic), Omron switches in all buttons, even the thumb buttons (but not rated for as many clicks as other mice). Could be great, but it's a bit of a gamble, especially considering how many well-known and well-tested other mice already exist.

Finally, I'll cover the Zowie mice. All of these mice are driverless (no software needed; all adjustments are made with a button on the bottom of the mouse), which is certainly a plus when it comes to ease of use, but they lack the flashy features of many "flagship" mice, like custom RGB lighting. All Zowie Mice use the same sensor (3310) and have 5 buttons (left, right, middle up/down/click, and two thumb buttons). Each type comes in two or three different sizes, as indicated my the number after the model name. The ambidextrous mice (ZA for palm grip and FK for claw grip) have two buttons on each side, but only one set can be used at a time. The EC mice are right-handed ergonomic mice. None of them have rubber side grips or braided cables, and all of them are very light. However, they are known for using Huano switches rather than Omrons (so the left and right buttons are a little harder to click) but there is a new revision with Omron switches. Speaking of revisions, this seems to be the Zowie business model: small revisions every 6 months or so. Questionable, but they do offer excellent mice.

Those are all of the major players in the gaming mouse market, but there are others (Mionix, Roccat, CoolerMaster, Corsair) that you may want to look into. There's a lot more depth than I've covered here (grip type, sensor implementations, lift-off distance, etc.) but this should give you an overview of the most popular choices. Keep in mind that this is not in any way an objective set of reviews; these are all my opinions and may not apply to your tastes. Additionally, I've been pretty harsh and picky, but these really are all great mice.

After all of my research, I chose and now use a Zowie EC1-A (late 2015 version, before the BenQ re-brand and Omron update), and couldn't be happier.

I apologize. Let me do my best to break it down clearly for you here. Because it's a lot of stuff I was confused too, so I made a document that I hope clearly details my build and the associated costs. For the sake of this, I'm excluding peripherals, because I can't buy them from Memory Express anyways. If you're interested in what I've chosen I can link those too.

So, to begin, ME is holding on to their last 1060 for me, if I do my full system build with them (due to miners, they won't sell it to me alone). As a result, I can price match any of my items with them -- including the video card (of course, I'll be hard-pressed to find the GPU for less than they're listing it for). That's why I listed PCPP -- according to the associate I spoke with, they're willing to price match with any of the sites on there, so long as they have the GPU in stock. This is the most up-to-date build I have -- I've for now excluded the peripherals and the RAM.

****

The CPU is the same as before:

Intel Core i3 8100 3.6Ghz, 6mb

Price Match w/ Vuugo @ $147.25

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX68268

**

The motherboard I think I managed to get the same one from a different ME, and it's being transferred to my local one.

MSI Z370-A Pro

Price Match w/ Newegg @ $149.99

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX68590

****

The RAM I'm still iffy about. The one I have on the build right now is a Kingston 2x4 GB for $125. I wasn't given a product number and forgot to ask, but through some digging on their website, I found this and I think it's that one because the price is the same (it's the only one at exactly that price). If not, they have it in stock and I can switch it out for this one.

As far as I can tell, it's identical to the one you linked. What do you mean by expandability? As far as I can tell, my motherboard has 4 memory slots. Can I not just add more RAM? Unless I need to use those to connect stuff like my HDD and SSD, but I thought those used PCI-e slots.

If 8 gb will do me fine then I'm happy, I just don't want to have to upgrade any time soon. The 16gb version of the same one is less than $100 more so it's something I'll have to consider. If it was you, what would you do? The choices:

Kingston HyperX Fury 2x4 GB

Price Match w/ PC-Canada @ $117.99

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX64812

OR

Kingston HyperX Fury 2x8GB

Price Match w/ Vuugo @ $218.50

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX66968

**

From what I could tell, ME had the best price on my SSD.

Samsung 850 Evo SSD 500GB

Memory Express @ $179

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX55510

I think I've decided on 500GB. More storage is always better, and again, I don't want to have to switch, transfer, or upgrade later. I aim to put only my OS and most of my games on there, so it will be dedicated to that.

*****

The HDD I went for 2TB. It's a $20 difference from 1TB so I figured the same as above.

Seagate 2TB BarraCuda HD Sata III w/ 64 M Cache

Price Match w/ ShopRBC @ $72.25

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX63178

*

The GPU I had to change from EVGA, because ME doesn't have that one in stock anywhere. This one, according to the salesperson and the Internet, has two fans and a higher speed. I figured that would end up being better anyways, but again, let me know if I'm causing a problem for myself here.

Asus GTX 1060 3GB

Price Match w/ PC-Canada @ $364.99

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX63930

The case I had to switch a bit to get one they had in stock. It's effectively the same as far as I can tell.

IN WIN G7 ATX Mid Tower Case, Black

Memory Express @ $59.99

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX52221

Same with the PSU. Think I used the filter to grab this one, sorted by Memory Express.

Corsair TXM Gold 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Price Match w/ PC-Canada @ $94.99

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX65812

The monitor they have in stock. I was looking to get a cheaper one at about 120Hz but apparently nobody has those.

ACER GN246HL 24in Full HD 144Hz LCD LED

Price Match w/ Amazon.ca @ $249.99

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX64422

So the total price of all of the above comes to:

$1446,44 if I choose to go with 8 GB of RAM, OR

$1546,95 if I choose to go with 16 GB of RAM.

Prices may fluctuate a bit depending on the prices I'm matching with (I'll review as I get closer to picking up the parts) and tax etc.

I hope that was enough. Please let me know if there's any more info you need. Sorry for the late response by the way, trying to get some homework done at the same time, haha.

Once more, thank you for your help. You've gone above and beyond what anyone would have asked of you, and I appreciate your help very very much. This kind of thing is why I love Reddit.

Hey man, fellow PC gamer (For over a decade) and I just jumped into owning a PS4 about two weekends ago. I'm not looking for super amazing graphics, but rather games I have been missing out on. So I know how you feel. I've been vegging out on Destiny and I'm having so much fun.

> Pro vs Slim vs Standard. From what I understand via a quick Googling, the Pro's main advantage is 4K support (irrelevant to me) but the framerate isn't that much better and doesn't even apply to some games (true/false?); the Slim is the cheapest option; the Standard is... I don't know. Does standard have any advantage over slim?

Nothing is different from the OG PS4 and the Slim. The Slim is just smaller from what I understand. The Slim does come with the updated Dualshock 4 though. I owned a DS4 for my PC before and the updated DS4 has a light bar on the touchpad and the analog sticks are noticeably clickier when you push them in.

> New vs Used. I know it's going to vary widely by where I get it, but how "safe" is it to get a used PS4? This is assuming that there isn't a bundle with a game that I want, in which case I'd go with that.

I'm more on the side of getting a new system because I prefer new things anyway. I think the only thing you'll run into is wear and tear on the blu-ray drive and the hard drive. The hard drive is easy to replace though and it'll take any 2.5" HDD and even SDDs.

> I'm not a massive graphics enthusiast, but being on PC for so long with a somewhat-above-average rig, I notice low framerate. I don't care so much about, say, 50fps vs 60fps, but I notice 30fps or below and it makes me enjoy the game less. I know it varies based on the game, but overall how are framerates for PS4 games?

Framerates are definitely lower. I never disliked 30 FPS, but it does have that sluggish look to it. That being said, I could honestly care less. Before I owned my 970, I would sometimes lock my framerate to 30 FPS to keep it from feeling jittery from the frame drops. I never really cared about the whole 30 < 60 FPS argument, but 60 FPS is definitely better overall. It's a matter of preference. Now if a game drops below 30, it's really noticeable and there are a few games that do drop from what I understand. Digital Foundry is something I've always watched even before owning a PS4 just because I love seeing framerate differences between platforms. I will say this though: The Uncharted Collection feels and looks so nice at 60 FPS.

> When to buy. I probably missed out on stuff during black friday/cyber monday, but is there anything on the horizon (other than Christmas sales) that I should wait for? Any new bundles or special deals coming soon?

I got a Slim with Uncharted 4 for $269 (On Amazon) two weekends ago and I had it price matched at Best Buy. Amazon currently has it for $249 (The same model I got) right now and it can still be price matched at Best Buy if you want to pick it up locally. Not a bad price if you ask me.

> I'm going to be playing on my computer monitor via HDMI, because I don't have a working TV (all its ports got fried by lightning and so my TV is only good for watching cable - in other words, useless). This setup works fine for my WiiU, I assume it'll be fine for PS4 as well?

If it has HDMI, it will work! Only thing I can think of that can cause problems is HDCP content being restricted, but I don't know what your monitor is and I doubt it will ever be an issue. On another note, my Corsair Void Wireless RGB headset works on the PS4 as well. So if you have a "gaming" headset on your PC, there's a huge chance it will work on your PS4 if it's USB based.

Hope I helped man. I'm really enjoying my PS4 and I'm probably going to buy Stardew Valley for the third time tomorrow (Steam, GoG, and now PSN) lol. It's weird that I haven't touched my PC in a few weeks or finished Pokemon Moon either, but I've been wasting my time away with Destiny. I've been wanting to play it for years and I'm enjoying it so much right now.

Cheap, or expensive, is relative. What budget do you have to work with? Basically, I would say in total for the rig, around $700-800 can get you something pretty decent, then you're looking for the actual console/PC and the games themselves as an additional price.

For a fairly cheap, but still best bang-for-buck rig, I would recommend:

  • Any of the T300 + T3PA bundles, for example the T300 Ferrari Alcantara Edition - Great wheel, best entry level wheel by far. With decent pedals, optional brake mod included that, imo, improves the feel a lot. Clutch included.

  • TH8A shifter - Fairly cheap, all things considered,

  • Simetik K2 cockpit - Very sturdy and customizable for its price, and also doesn't have that annoying bar down the middle that basically inhibits you from heel-and-toe downshifting that most of the other cheap rigs have.

All in all this comes down to $885 as of right now, if you want to save a little bit you could go for the original T300 GT Edition instead and it'll be $817.

The Simetik K2 is by far the best rig you can get in that pricebracket, but if you must save some more either skip the shifter for now or get a Playseat Challenge, it isn't the sturdiest but again, I do not recommend getting a rig with the pole in between your legs, I would personally rather play at a desk and an office chair than that, as it, at least for me, makes it really hard to heel-and-toe, and I love racing old DTM and GT cars with manual gearboxes and couldn't do without that.

Low key impressed with this list!

>Bulk loose leaf tea. Best I've found is health food shop. I don't like all the packaging they do for tea, I'm happy to diffuse it myself

>Bulk staples: spices, rice, pasta, etc. BULk for best prices.

Large Asian Grocery stores like MCQ or NP.

>Proper cold-pressed dill pickles, Lithuanian half-sour type. These are only brined, never heated, so they have a crisp snap (and can't be shipped really because of refrigeration). Claussen is the best comparison, but afaik you can't get those outside the USA because of refrigeration issues

Somewhere like The Re Store (Northbridge/Leederville) is probably your best bet (same for bulk black olives).

>A Switch. Refurbished is fine. Saw $500 at the mall and that's too much for me to pay.

Currently $398 Free Shipping at Amazon. (Cheap Nintendo Switch Consoles seem to be one of the only things local Amazon is good for)

>Nice potted plants. Bunnings?

Bunnings and Waldecks are the majors, although keep an eye out for various plant sales run by local councils as well as seasonal warehouse plant sales, often advertised on social media. Worth searching for nurseries in your local area on google maps if you want to try and compare with more local options.

>Art supplies: polymer clay, ribbon, dried flowers, fabric, felt, beads, feathers, silk flowers

Riot Art & Craft is a major chain in malls that would have this sort of stuff, you may also find some of these items at the other big craft chains like Spotlight or Lincraft. Jacksons for painting / drawing supplies.

>BBQ sauce, American style. Default styles here don't have proper tang or spice.

Fancy IGAs (e.g 2nd Ave Mount Lawley, Taylor Rd Nedlands) - very extensive BBQ sauce ranges.

>Mild peppers. Not capsicum, but stuff like ortega or poblano (anaheim peppers?), mild chiles like for stuffing for a chile relleno. All I can find are "chilis" which seem to encompass all peppers in one broad stroke while also excluding mild ones somehow?

The major grocery stores are hit and miss and will stock these sorts of peppers sometimes, but not all year round. The larger asian grocery chains mentioned above may be able to assist as well as the smaller greengrocers / fruit and vegetable stores found in most malls. I'd suggest you grow your own if you have the space, they grow super easy in the Perth climate and will provide you with more peppers than you would ever need 9-10 months of the year.

>Chipotle. Powder form is less ideal, but it's better than nothing.

The Spice Wagon in Morley (The market this is inside, Coventry has a MASSIVE range of multicultural food shops and restaurants in addition to this place), you should be able to find Chipotle in Adobo at any of the fancier IGAs or at some of the asian grocery stores already mentioned.

>For the same reason, jellied cranberry sauce

Coles and Woolworths have this (Ocean Spray brand) all year round - albeit in a jar rather than a can.

>Buttermilk

All major supermarkets should have at least one variety in the dairy case with all the other milk (separate with the other refrigerated misc milks) - often only available in a 600ml bottle though.

>Marinated mushrooms. In the USA, i get them in jars or at the olive bar.

I've seen them in major supermarket in jars / cans, may be referred to by the french term (champignon).

>Stone fruit. Can't find peaches, plums, nectarines, etc.

Seasonal fruit that doesn't tend to get imported from other countries, these are often only available in the summer (November - April at the most).

>Japanese grocery store. Do those exist in Perth?

There are a few (two in Subiaco alone - here and here), however keep in mind that unless you want something really niche the larger asian grocery stores will often have what these two stores stock at a much lower price.

https://www.smashladder.com

There's a bunch of guides and stuff as soon as you first enter the site.

>I want to do anther's ladder but I don't know exactly what it is

It's a match-making website where you can find matches, and chat with people in real time. The matches can be anything from Bo3 to Bo5 'ranked' ladder matches, to endless friendlies, to doubles matches. Basically, anything you could do at your local tourney, you can do on Anther's. (except money matchs afaik)

>Can I access it on my wii?

I mean.. maybe? You'd want to use your computer/mobile device if possible.

>Do I have to use an emulator on my laptop?

For Project M, most likely. You'd be hard pressed to find other people that still use the Wiimfi servers and play on their Wiis. The official way to play PM on Anther's is Dolphin Emulator, and there are plenty of guides to set it up, as well as optimize it if you have a slower computer.

>Can my laptop even run project m smoothly?

Well I play it on my laptop, and it runs fine (I even record while playing most of the time). Most modern computers can run it pretty well. It really depends on your specs though. You could get a lot of advice about that, but nothing beats just trying it out on your own and seeing if it works or not.

>If it is on my pc, than how am I supposed to use a gamecube controller?

There are multiple ways to get a Gamecube controller working on a computer, but the easiest/best ways are the official WiiU adapter or the Mayflash 4 Port adapter. They're both the best you can get in terms of lag reduction, but the mayflash is cheaper.

>Either way, how much lag is usually on it? I don't want to throw my timing off.

That really depends on your connection, your opponent's connection, and your own computer. It's usually anywhere between 10ms and 100ms of lag. I usually don't even play with people if the ping is over 60ms. (EC privilege lol) Many top players use netplay for a variety of reasons. Yes, the timing can throw you off if you're jumping from netplay to a tournament set, but if you take the time to adjust properly, then it really shouldn't be a problem. The MU experience and massive variety of playstyles you'll learn is something that Smashers have only dreamed of until recently.

I highly recommend netplay if you can get it working. Almost everyone has troubles setting it up at first, including myself, so don't get upset if it takes a couple days to get it working. I've probably clocked in over 1000-2000 hours on Netplay. It's great!

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Yes, thank you. Op this build is a great starter build. I am going to break it down, and post some alternatives or upgrade options.

CPU: the ryzen 2600 is the best price performance cpu on the market right now. It is powering a ton of midrange and even low high end gaming pcs. GET THIS.

MOBO. a b450 is a good entry level mobo and will work with 2000 series cpus without a bios update.

Ram. Team Vulcan works great with Ryzen. a lot of budget ram does not. If you can spare the extra cash, it is much cheaper in the long run to go with 16GB of the same RAM for $125 if you can spare the extra 45.

An HDD. This is fine. Personally, I would find a way to spend the extra money and go with an 500 GB SSD like this, or this. I would then buy an HDD later. If those SSDs take this build over 700 which appears to be your price limit, then feel free to go HDD.

When it comes to PSUs I don't like this one from above, nor do I like Thermaltake smart. The one thing you should never cheap out on is the PSU, because if a bad PSU fails it can take down your whole system. The above model is described as a safety hazard by review sites, and the Thermaltake 500w smart is not recommended for the same reason. I would get this one. For 10 bucks more you get a classic excellent PSU. While this PSU doesn't have modern PSU features, this is a very solid PSU from a name brand. However, if you want a legit modern PSU then this one would be great, if you can spare the 23 extra bucks.

Finally, the Keyboard and mouse are fine. I got platinum god in the original binding of isaac on a cheapo keyboard combo like this. However, If you want some legit budget products check out the company red dragon. The red dragon kumara k552 is a well reviewed entry level mechanical keyboard, and the red dragon m801 mammoth mouse is excellent. Note that despite the name, the red dragon mammoth is actually great for small handed/medium handed people, as a short 5'6" dude with small hands I love my mammoth, it's the best mouse I ever used.

Here is a build with my suggestions for cost comparison purposes, it will be over your budget of 700 but it is a legit core gaming pc. Here is something to consider:

The biggest change is that I added an RX 580 which is a 1080 60 FPS beast which should allow 60 FPS at 1080 on high or ultra for the next 2 years at least in modern Triple AAA games.

I also added a 1 MS gaming monitor. This monitor is totally unnecessary for small time indies like don't starve, however, once you get a gaming pc, you might want to play some esports titles like fortnite and a 1 ms monitor will be nice for that.

I'm kinda the same way. Keyboard is still just a bit awkward for me, but I found an amazing solution:

For my mouse i have a great Logitech 700. Just great all around. Lots of buttons, which means left left hand work.

For the left hand however, I bought a Playststion Navigstion controller. It is basically the left half of a console controller with stick, DPad, 2 trigger buttons and a few other gen buttons. It is just IDEAL for me. All you need is the USB charging cable and/or Bluetooth. Just link it up and set a profile. It's super easy once it's set up!

Software: http://betterds3.ciebiera.net/

As a bonus, the Move Controller and the 700s can also be programmed to emulate some keyboard buttons, meaning you can play older games that do not have joystick/controller capabilities.

Vita has to be connected through wifi, PS4 can be connected through either wifi or ethernet, but you definitely want it connected through ethernet. When you're close enough to the PS4, your Vita will connect directly to the PS4 and works pretty great.

I've used it at my girlfriends house where they have slow internet and a ton of people on at the same time streaming tv, and I was about 30-50 ft from the router, it had noticeable lag and the graphics started getting rally blurred and it disconnected a few times.

Under best conditions, you'll probably want to avoid the crucible, because even with minimal lag, I think it purposely drops frames too keep the connection solid but this makes the controls feel..off. There isn't a lag, it just feels too sensitive almost. I tested it by playing with my TV still on (basically using the Vita solely as a controller) and it's very responsive and feels fine, but holding up the Vita to watch both screens at once, they both start and finish movements at the same time, the Vita just looks jumpy. It's not to hard to get used to and it works great for anything PvE, but the jarring feeling you get while turning can easily cost you a match in crucible.

Also, right bumper to fire, left bumper to ADS, feels natural obviously. But touch the right side of the screen to melee, left side for grenade, both easy to hit on accident. Center of the screen for nav mode. Tapping ▼ on the D-pad to sprint (feels easier than L3 on DS4 imo), and holding ◄ on the D-pad allows you to use ∆, Square, O, and X for your emotes. I don't know if ▲ or ► do anything, and without R3 you can't check other players unless you go to the roster ▲ on the D-pad is for character highlight, and it looks like ► doesn't do anything. Wish they would let ► allow you to compare items.

I personally love it though.

Edit: Anyone considering this should also consider getting a grip for the Vita, It makes a huge difference imo (cheap one here).

Edit 2: Control Scheme. Apparently ▲ on the D-pad is Character highlight.

Similar to you, but for the carrying case there is a much better one. (Nintendo's own one is too soft, so the thumb-sticks are a bit vulnerable in there from getting bashed). While I love the stand feature on it, I hardly ever use that, as there are better ways of doing it where you can access the cable from underneath, like you can with the separate foldaway stands. Also, there's not much room in Nintendo's case to carry any extra stuff (so is no good for the stand, and not even enough room to carry so much as a charging cable).

I've bought and tried quite a few different pouch and accessory combinations in order to solve this, and the best case so far out of all of them is the Orzly Hard Pouch Carrying Case (as there's tones of extra joy-con room aswell as room for lots of extra stuff like cables, games, battery pack, etc, aswell as my foldaway stand).

It's also padded extremely well on the inside whilst being a hard shell on the outside. Yet they've done all that whilst doing an exceptionally good job of being the most space conscious on the inside compared to all the other ones I've used, whilst also not making it too big on the outside.

And the best foldaway stand by far is this one...

BEST STAND:

https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Angle-Nintendo-Switch-Lamicall-Playstand/dp/B01LZAYH58

So the best case for it to fit in with the switch and everything else inside that I use 100% of the time is this one...

The headset that comes with the console is good enough to communicate with people, but if you can afford to or you have some room on your Christmas gift list, even consider the Xbox One Stereo Headset. For their price, they are fantastic. Audio is nice and clear with a pretty decent frequency range and the voice chat is super easy to balance with the game volume. It also comes with the adapter that lets you plug any headphones into your controller and use them which is about $20 by itself anyway. So the one you get is fine to use and you will be able to chat fine, but if you talk a whole lot and want something cost effective but still very good, I would suggest having a bit more of a look into that headset :)

Copy pasted from the project site... https://switch.chilly.codes/

Q: What is this?

A: A side project that I've been working on since March 2018. You can think of it as a Twitch Plays Switch with some nifty features.

Q: Why did you make this?

A: I was bored. Also, I wanted an easy way to use OpenCV to control the Switch, like this guy.

Q: How does it work?

A: At its core, it takes input either from a locally connected controller or via network and relays it to a Nintendo Switch over USB. I used this project and this project as a base and grafted on everything else. Frankly, very little of the original projects remain.

Currently, I've used the network support to add input support for Twitch/Mixer chat and for a webpage where players can control the Switch via a gamepad.

I'll be writing up more documentation on the workings of this project at a later date.

Q: How does gamepad support work?

A: Plug in a controller into your computer, go to the gamepad control page, press a button to activate it, and you're set! You can request a turn by clicking on the controller image. Each turn lasts 20 seconds unless you are the only person waiting for a turn, in which case you will keep your turn after 20 seconds until someone else requests one. Note that chat can and will mess with your inputs!

Q: How does chat work:

A: Works like you'd expect it to. You can also press buttons simultaneously instead of just one after another. Read the project site for more details.

Q: What makes this better than \<insert other implementation here\>?

A: There are a lot of modifications I've made to mine that aren't present in other versions.

  • User friendly, minimal config desktop software.
  • I've modified the controller to appear as an officially licensed Nintendo Switch HORIPAD instead of a hacked Pokken Tournament Pad like other implementations. There's no change in features, but the hardware emulation is much more accurate.
  • In case the desktop software crashes, the Switch turns off, or the hardware is disconnected, the hardware can recover by simply using the software to reconnect. A sync protocol is in place that brings the hardware into a known state.
  • The hardware's firmware buffers an input frame and checks it for data integrity via a fast algorithm before sending it to the Switch, so a crash will never cause random buttons to be pressed. Other implementations naively trust the input sent by the software and are susceptible to this problem.
  • Input packets are synchronized to the Switch's poll rate in hardware. All commands are mapped to one or more input packets with a certain number of wait frames before the next input packet is processed, so this is as close to TAS as you can get. Most other implementations do not do this and rely on hacks like sleeping for 100ms on the computer side, which can cause variable latency (OS timers are not guaranteed to be accurate) and desyncs for TAS.
  • Easier debugging. I've written some code that stubs out the firmware's AVR-specific calls and replaces them with implementations that allow the firmware to be run on desktop. When used in conjunction with something like socat, developers can quickly test out changes to the firmware without having to reflash the hardware.
  • Other implementations usually only support one input source. By using a TCP server, input commands can be sent from many different clients or feeder sources. This also makes testing very easy since all that is needed to send test inputs is something like netcat.
  • As far as I know, no other "Twitch Plays" project has ever allowed users to use controllers.
  • Chat commands and modifications to gamepad support can be added/modified while the project is running and can be modified in most cases without ever touching code!

Ok first off hi! I'm beatlemnkyhuman a.k.a Jesus nice to meet you.

You don't need a stick

It's a luxury. Sticks are pricey and custom sticks can get really pricey. I've heard of players buying sticks and never using them so some buy them just for the swag but it is no longer needed.

Luffy won evo and went pro with a ps1 pad and he still uses a ps1 pad.

Punk went pro on pad, nuckledu is pro on pad coolkid plays pad.

you no longer need a stick

A stick will not make you better.
Contrary to popular belief a stick is not magic.

You will still have to work. In my personal experience, it took me 3 months or so to get over pad and get used to stick. If you did not grow up with a stick then there's no reason.

Next thing, if you did grow up with a stick then your memory maybe rose tinted in that your remembering being better then you ever were. Sticks take work just like pad.

If after all this you still want a stick:

I recommend focus attack for custom art work and big e customs for custom designs as that's what I use

[the te2 is the pro standard. Amazing stick, easy to mod. Sanwa buttons and sanwa stick.] (https://www.amazon.com/Fighter-FightStick-PlayStation4-PlayStation3-playstation-4/dp/B018AW405K/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543512575&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=madcatz+te2%2B&dpPl=1&dpID=41vrhKHqO9L&ref=plSrch)

some players prefer the hori rap4 with hori parts. It's cheaper so the stick is a little more loose. Hori parts fully and difficult to mod

the qanba drone is seen as a cheap alternative. Sanwa buttons i think and if not it can be modded easily. Known to not last

The qanba dragon is a monster of a stick that goes for 300 and the obsidian goes for 200.

EDIT: The razr panthera is a pro favorite as well, impossible to mod the artwork but an amazing stick for 200

If you want to go custom from the ground up then you can do allfightsticks. Com which will give you a sleek heavy steel frame or marvelous customs.

Each of those custom sticks will run you 300 plus.

You can even go wood frame which may be even more expensive.

Good luck.

Logitech G29 - good value for money, tried and tested tech but it is a bit old being gear driven and can be a bit ratchety compared to a belt driven wheel if you care about these minor things. Pedals included are good especially at the G29 price point. Basically you can't go wrong here.

Thrustmaster T300 with standard pedals

T300RS with T3PA pedals - A bit more expensive than the logitech G29 and Thrustmaster have their fair share of horror stories regarding product defects but over all it's a solid wheel base for the majority. The T300 wheel base is a good wheel of choice for sim racing as It's belt driven so the steering is somewhat smoother and you have the modular steering rim option, just make sure to get a T300 package that comes with the T3PA or T3PA pro pedals. There's also the T150 which is a great starter wheel if you want a cheaper option than the T300 but you won't be able to take advantage of Thrustmasters modular wheel system in future and again, the standard pedals included aren't great.

Fanatec CSL Elite - Not wanting to leave the most expensive "starter" wheel base option out... The Fanatec CSL Elite wheel base for the PS4 will come close to blowing your budget of $500 and doesn't include pedals but it's another option on the table if you are interested in splashing the cash :).

I recommend to check ebay and any other buy/sell websites that you know if you're happy to buy used in case anyone who bought a nice sim rig or wheel and didn't like sim racing as much as they thought and are selling good kit for cheap. Happens more than you'd think!

Hopefully this helps somewhat and you can stay below that $500 mark.

So I went into this, and read the article, thinking "hey, but PC has a truly massive Indie scene. Surely, the reason PC is so much higher than the other three combined is because it had so many more games reviewed, right?"

Nope, on PS4/XBone/WiiU there were 783 games reviewed, 20 of which were classified as "good exclusives" with a score of 75 or higher. PC had 450 games reviewed and had 46 games classified as "good exclusives."

If we're rounding, just 3% of games released on console this year became "good exclusives" and 10% of games on PC became good exclusives. I'd say this is another feather in our cap, brothers.

When someone says "PC has no good exclusives" we can say definitively, with evidence, that ~10% of PC games reviewed are considered "good exclusives" whereas just 3% of Console games reviewed (and for this to be relevant you'd have to own all 3 consoles) are considered "good exclusives."

To tack onto what I said earlier, for this comparison, where PC absolutely smashes consoles, you'd have to own all three consoles, PS4, XBone, and WiiU concurrently to be able to take advantage of those 20 games that are "good exclusives." PS4 Slim + Xbox One + Wii U = $800 spent. For $800 you could get a pretty bitchin' computer that would outperform the consoles easily, and you might be able to get a VR capable PC with Oculus' new min spec being the 1050 Ti/960 and an i3.

"PC gaming is dead" I say PC gaming is stronger than ever, and this just proves it. Unless we're in some kind of bubble that no one in the industry is seeing, it's not going anywhere any time soon.

Not OP, but I'm pretty confident he/she is talking about either the Hori wired switch pro controller, or the PowerA wired switch pro controller, since both of them cost about $25 USD, and they are both officially licensed by Nintendo.

However, I strongly recommend you reconsider if you'll be using them for Smash. I've used both of them at work, and honestly speaking...the quality is solid. Sure, they both feel light and cheap, but honestly speaking the finish is pretty darn good for the price. The only major quality con I see is they both have a fair share of hardware issues, with controllers that randomly stop working after some time, thus their low rating on Amazon despite high sales numbers.

The thing that will probably get you though is how bad the controls are for smash, and that if you're going for quality, you just wont beat the Pro Controller. I actually kinda went in depth about this in my other response to you as well above here, but basically, I'm pretty confident that had I bought these cheaper alternatives for Smash, and then tried the Pro Controller, I'd have regretted my decision horribly...

After going through various mice for FPS games, I cannot recommend anything else but the Logitech g303 Daedalus Apex. This mouse is by far the best I have ever used spanning various DPI modes, a sleek and sturdy design for true competitive accuracy, one of the best sensors on the market and last but not least, RGB lighting. I highly recommend it because not only is it insanely responsive but also lightweight.
You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Daedalus-Performance-Gaming-910-004380/dp/B00TKFD51M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1517952647&sr=8-3&keywords=logitech+g303+daedalus+apex

Wish you the best of luck in your mice hunting!

Before we get into this, a lot of your questions are frequently asked and can be found with search. I don't say this to be mean, but that you'll probably find a lot more replies there than you might get in this one thread.

>Pro vs Slim vs Standard

Standard is retired. Slim replaced it. Same hardware. Pro is will do 4K with checkerboard rendering, which is a semi cheat but still looks great. Pro should also hopefully allow devs to hit 60fps more often in SP @ 1080, but the jurys still out. More on framerate in a bit.

>New vs Used.

I'm a fan of new, but if you can get gamestop of the like to give you some sort of warranty, that's up to you.

>I'm not a massive graphics enthusiast

This could be your easiest hangup. While some stuff can be 60, a lot of stuff ends up at 30FPS. That's unfortunate, but it's reality. If that's a huge problem, you might want to reconsider.

>When to buy

You missed the black friday stuff, but I think I've heard of the slim for $249? Here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Slim-500GB-Console-Uncharted-Bundle/dp/B01LRLJV28

>I'm going to be playing on my computer monitor via HDMI, because I don't have a working TV

PS4 controller has an audio jack for headphones. Or you can get sony or other headsets for the ps4 (golds are good). HDMI for video is great.

As someone who gamed on the pc for decades, I love my ps4 for exclusives as well as it's "pickup and go" gaming. I hardly game on the pc since the ps4 came out, I love it that much. It's not for everyone, but I've had a very positive experience.

u/Akikaze25 · 2 pointsr/RandomActsOfGaming

Ok, sure, let's give it a try, nothing to lose, just the tiniest chance to win, but it's something :)

I guess I would be ok with a Playstation 4, did not own a console in almost a decade and this one actually has games I would care about. Here is one. Would have gone for a PS4 pro, but I think that one releases sometime during the middle of November.

Thanks for making someone very happy. Also, congrats on your profit.

Entirely depends on your budget - but at the very least something with Force Feedback, like the Logitech g29 with shifter - that's a very common setup. $200-450 is the figure you'd be looking at - depending on if what you want is on sale. A bit cheaper if you don't want a shifter and want to use the paddle shifters behind the wheels.

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G29-Driving-Shifter-Bundle/dp/B016JBE8LU $299

I chose one a little higher priced, the Thrustmaster T300RS GT edition (3 pedal setup not the cheaper 2 pedal one without the clutch) as well as the TH8A shifter. I got the wheel on sale, full price on shifter. https://i.imgur.com/Y8Gg5oO.jpg

https://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-T300-RS-Racing-Wheel-PlayStation/dp/B01M1L2NRL?th=1 $388 + https://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-PC-PS3-PS4-Xbox-One/dp/B005L0Z2BQ $149

These wheels are much more than toys. You can feel the wheels on the road, traction loss, how much torque the cars have, if you slam into a wall the wheels can damn near rip your hands off (you can change the % of feedback to lower it). It makes the experience in VR feel super real. I'd say a wheel carries as much importance in VR racing as the headset does.

The craziest feeling I've gotten so far as just sitting at the start of a race idling in a '66 Mustang. The entire hood of this car is shaking back and forth like Dom's muscle cars in Fast and the Furious.....and the WHEEL is shaking left and right with the car exactly how you would expect something with that much power to. That thing was like 100% torque and it felt amazing.

Even if it takes some saving, I highly recommend one of them - although I would definitely wait until Black Friday to get $100 ish off of either one you choose. The sale prices for these are quite tolerable when they occur.

A stand for the wheel is much nicer than a table for mounting, but they can be pricey as well. From $100 and up. My Apiga AP2 stand was $280 but worth every penny to not have a bar in between your legs. Only $240 now and supports most wheels. https://www.amazon.com/APIGA-Foldable-Racing-Simulator-gearshift-ALL/dp/B00XBPYUIY

Right now I have a Redragon Perdition and it works well for me. I think I have pretty big hands but it feels super comfortable and the plastic doesn't feel cheap at all. I'm very fond of this brand after moving on from Razer mice. My Razer mice really only ever lasted me about 6 months but this mouse has lasted me 2 years for about half of the price.

A buddy of mine tried the Redragon Mammoth because he didn't want buttons on the side and he said it's a great mouse for the price and it looks to be about the same size.

I didn't trust this brand at first since their stuff came from China but I've been pleasantly surprised. Good build quality, acceptable software, and tons of features for this price point.

What’s your limit per se and your systems you want to use it on? Reason I ask is I know a couple really good budget sticks. (Mayflash F300, Mayflash F500) but the best budget stick in my opinion that’s actually on sale right now I’d recommend the Qanba Drone. Easy to mod too (like I modded mine out with Sanwa parts and Hayabusa buttons) here’s the Amazon link of it while it’s down in price at $69 https://www.amazon.com/Qanba-Drone-PlayStation-4/dp/B01I0GEDEY/ref=sxin_1_ac_d_rm?ac_md=3-2-cWFuYmEgZHJvbmU%3D-ac_d_rm&crid=361Z42RGDGX46&keywords=mayflash+f300&pd_rd_i=B01I0GEDEY&pd_rd_r=fbb14bab-5c40-4ca6-99fc-0da2a5f86dac&pd_rd_w=Bs9Pl&pd_rd_wg=0tyq3&pf_rd_p=d29bc9bc-49e2-46b8-bc05-387917c341ec&pf_rd_r=C6GTT35K40VEH3BV43Y0&qid=1567897331&s=gateway&sprefix=Mayflash+f3%2Caps%2C158

Also if you’re willing to go up about $30, then this is a great stick on sale too and actually comes with Hayabusa matte buttons (which are great buttons and would mean you don’t have to mod it too much if you like those. I personally love Hayabusa buttons too) https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Real-Arcade-Pro-Soul-Calibur/dp/B01A8L6O0U/ref=sr_1_1?crid=NAN7Q46MA42W&keywords=soul+calibur+fight+stick&qid=1567897678&s=gateway&sprefix=Soul+calibur+figh%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-1

With screen protectors you really want to go with tempered glass. Starter kits are a nice deal, but you do get what you pay for when it comes to screen protectors; such is life.

For a screen protector, I along with the rest of Reddit it seems have settled upon this screen protector as being the absolute best. I even had Best Buy Geek Squad install it to virtually guarantee proper installation, and it looks absolutely fantastic. I had the chance to play for a few weeks without it and personally think it actually makes the screen look better.

For a case I would go the RDS Industries route and get either this or even this larger case that can fit all the related Switch accessories.

Can't decide, so here are my options! Any of those will be great!

  • PS3: I'd like little big planet 2. I have a young cousin who sometimes comes over and likes to play with me, but I only have "adult" games, so we have to play the demo over and over until she's tired(a.k.a. never).

  • 3DS: Animal Crossing! I keep everyone saying how cool it is, but the only game I got is pokémon.

  • And last but not least... I've been dying to get the Borderlands 2 season pass! I have the physical media for ps3 but Brazilian banks blocked PSN purchases, so my option is the digital code from Amazon. I can't add it to my wishlist because it's a digital code, but there's it ^^^wink ^^^wink

And my favorite game is... good ol' Shadow of the Colussus! I used to play it like there was no tomorrow on my ps2

That's a nice contest OP, thanks for doing it!

For the best tactility in that price range, see if you can find some boards with Cherry MX clears. I know the Pok3r can be had with clears for $130 or less, but that's a 60% board with no dedicated arrows. If not, I'd highly recommend Gateron browns over Cherry MX browns. They're a bit wobblier, but the extra smoothness makes the tactile bump noticably more apparent (and enjoyable IMO). The Magicforce 68 is pretty highly recommended as a good budget board, and it's available with Gat browns.

This is where I started my search, but I intentionally wanted a super cheap board to start with. Happy hunting!

1: I've been trying to save up for more games for the new 3ds that my bf and I just bought to share, namely this game.

2: We don't have a lot of extra income so getting the 3ds was something we worked towards for a long time, and just because games are pretty expensive we don't have many. But we both love to play and it's something we love to share together. :)

No I actually know how to use it just fine. I’ve got scripts, access to a PC, had no issues with the coding and flashing. No technical issues. But it’s overkill. Most of what it can do better players already do anyway. And it feels like they do it better than the device does. There’s a lot you can script but why do any of that when you can just practice and achieve similar results? Then there’s input lag. I’ve seen videos of players running it with no problems. Me? I consistently had input lag on every game. When it wasn’t lagging it was fine, but it was 50/50 and that’s annoying enough to leave it shelved. Maybe I have too much EM interference but I’m not going to create a Faraday cage just to play a video game. If the key to doing a good part of what I’d want it for is just developing muscle memory and it’s laggy then that’s not enough to make me fall in love with it.

I also have the programmable Strike Pack. I like that device quite a bit although it lacks the flexibility of the CM. It also has less input lag than a CM, which is what made me feel the CM was clunky. What I don’t like is its poor fit around my controller. If it fit better I’d use it more often. Maybe it works better with older PS4 DS4s? But it’s interesting enough to tempt me to buy a Scuf or one of the other pro kits

If you’re looking for peripherals that will really give you an edge on console you’re better served by a Xim, a mechanical keyboard, a gaming mouse, and a large surface to use the mouse with. It won’t give you snap shotting or super quick zoom and shoot but it makes every shot more precise. That alone will put you ahead of even the best controller jockeys. The trade off is you need a desk or coffee table setup appropriately.

Hi guys,
I really need your help. I was thinking of gifting someone a nintendo switch after a few months but I know little to nothing about video games or consoles. I didn't grow up playing video games and have never owned a console. I was hoping you guys could help answer some of my questions and help me.

  • First, is it too late to gift it in several months (around Jan 2018)? Would it be old/out of trend or whatever? In what intervals (months/years) do new designs/consoles come in the video game world?

  • What should I buy? Should I just buy the bundle, does it come with games, should I try to buy some games, if so what are commonly liked ones?

  • How much does it cost exactly? I googled it but the retailers on the nintendo website have varying price. Amazon has it for about 400 bucks, target and gamestop have it for 299 bucks. Why is it so different? Is it the same thing regardless?

  • How is it? How would you describe your experience? Is it much better than consoles in the past? Was it worth the cost?

    Thanks in advance.

I got myself a Multi-Angle Stand to play in tabletop mode, specifically because I was playing games with motion control, but I also found it to be better for longer play sessions in general since it allows you to use a pro controller (or joy con in the grip), and also it makes charging while playing less intrusive than attempting to use a device tethered to a cord.
The built in stand is definitely rubbish, as it really only works on a solid flat, smooth surface. Even one bump or curve and it won't stand. I like the stand I linked since I can have it sitting on a couch cushion and it will still hold it up fine (until a cat decides to jump onto the same cushion). It also allows for going into portrait mode for games where you'd want to do so (e.g. pinball, shoot em ups, old arcade classics, etc.)

Speaking of motion controls, for what little I tried them on Warframe I enjoyed how they felt. I'd definitely recommend turning motion controls on.

Hello! I think you're looking for Animal Crossing: New Leaf or its updated packaging Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome amiibo – "Welcome amiibo" is a free downloadable update for the original, so in either case you'll get access to the same game. There are some spin-off titles and some older entries in the main series, but New Leaf is the game AC fans spend most time in.

The game's built-in tutorials are the best way to get started, and you have to play through them to progress anyway so you might as well go through them without spoiling anything by reading too much about it first!

When you get bored or confused or find a particular goal you want to accomplish, you might want to check out this subreddit's FAQ or simply search past posts for advice, but when starting out you'll almost certainly have more fun just wandering around, interacting with animals and objects and discovering things for yourself.

His current setup is strong enough that you aren't going to be able to upgrade it all that much in terms of CPU/GPU.

My recommendation would be to look at a mechanical keyboard (they're AMAZING if he's just using a normal rubber dome keyboard) or a new monitor for that price range. Those are very obvious items that generate a lot of value to the user (you type every day and always look at the monitor right!?) so it's better for gifting.

I'd look at a keyboard with Cherry MX Blue or Brown switches - they're great for typing, very tactile and responsive.

This is a fantastic new board, and saves on desk space if he doesn't use the number pad often. If he does, this is the larger version. The fancy RGB LEDs can be made to twinkle and react to typing, and can be programmed with the colors of his favorite teams and stuff. It's a neat gift.

u/Xintros · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I would check out the monoprice keyboard - https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13858 I don't have any experience with it personally but it's a good price. The RGB colors are not changeable and you can't do fancy lighting features (not sure if that matters to you.) It has blue and red switches available.

This Gskill might be another decent option, better options and more switch options but more expensive - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823828020&cm_re=rgb_keyboard-_-23-828-020-_-Product

The G910 has AWESOME RGB lighting - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126489&cm_re=rgb_keyboard-_-23-126-489-_-Product
the build quality is pretty plasticky and you may not like the romer G switches.

Personally I use a coolermaster masterkeys - https://www.amazon.com/MasterKeys-Mechanical-Keyboard-Intelligent-Switches/dp/B01D3BDN60
I have the ten keyless but it's a solid keyboard with nice software features, but a little pricier. You may also want to check out the Corsair keyboards in this price range.

This grip.

It's kind of ugly, and you can't charge while it's attached, but it's very comfortable.

There were a couple other grips I've been considering. I would love suggestions if anyone has a grip they love. I want one that doesn't block the charger port.

I would definitely recommend this grip, but I'm still on the lookout for a better one.

Super heavy duty, comes with a mesh bag that has two Micro SD card holders and two game holders that each hold 4 cartridges each. It can also carry the switch, dock, cables, joycon grip, and anything else you want to throw in there. You can usually find it at target or Best Buy for ~$30 USD. As for controllers... joy cons are easy to order online through Nintendo or you can get them at Target/Walmart or anywhere that has a video game section. As for holding case, I have this heavy duty grip case. I have dropped my switch before and it’s been perfectly fine with this thing on, so I definitely recommend it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/slredirect/picassoRedirect.html/ref=pa_sp_btf_aps_sr_pg1_2?ie=UTF8&adId=A0148261R5SAG6IFJ04X&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FMumba-Nintendo-Switch-Rubberized-release%2Fdp%2FB071ZRM6C1%2Fref%3Dsr_1_19_sspa%2F145-9781408-3087933%3Fie%3DUTF8%26qid%3D1519561659%26sr%3D8-19-spons%26keywords%3Dnintendo%2Bswitch%2Bcase%26psc%3D1%26smid%3DA1D6JCE5X9R16U&qualifier=1519561659&id=8600541413204391&widgetName=sp_btf
Also, a screen protector is recommended to prevent your screen getting scratched when you dock the console.

Gimme some Tech Daddi!

My friend recently got a New 3DS XL after working hard as an animator. She's really excited to play with me now that she has a 3DS but the thing is she wants to play a game I don't have yet. So yeah it would really help me and my friend if I get Animal Crossing: New Leaf :')

You can find the game in this wishlist :D

This guy ^ is great for mice.

If you're looking for general purpose, the Logitech G900 is great but pricey depending on where you are. In the UK I can get it for £80 which is pretty good considering it's one of the best mice out there.

For FPS, Zowie FK2 and Logitech G303 are ones to look into. Or a Razer.

Make sure you measure your hand size, the guy above tells you how, and compare to his recommendations. Also identify what your grip type is: palm, finger or claw, as that can matter.

u/TheCodingGamer · 1 pointr/dragonquest

I'm not 100% sure if they are still compatible with the 3DS, but regardless I would recommend against it if you can help it. The AR codes floating around for these are a little wonky and not well documented/tested. There's one that unlocks all quests, but in the process unlocks the unfinished quests that while not in the main game are still on the cartridge. These quests are buggy and can crash the game. The best part? If you do unlock these glitched quests and you play multiplayer with someone, they'll unlock them too, potentially rendering their game unplayable as well. In short it's like an unintentional game virus. As for the other two aspects of the DLC, they're less dramatic, but I'm still unsure which codes you'd need.

Considering the price would be the same if not cheaper, I highly recommend you go the savefile editing way. It's safe and easy; guaranteed. :)

u/Igno_ · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

There are only a few updates right out of the box, and they dont' take long at all. I didn't get my console on a big holiday, however, so depending on how many people are trying to connect to Nintendo's servers on Christmas, it might take significantly longer.

A screen protector is very nice to have. I haven't got one myself, but I plan on getting one. Until then, I'm just very careful when docking/undocking my console.

For accessories, it depends. If you travel a lot or on a regular basis, a traveling case is definitely worth it. I got this one, and it's great. It's a tad bigger than the one found on Nintendo's website (even though it is an official Nintendo product), and comes with two four-cartridge cases and two SD card cases.
Depending on what games he has, your son might also want a pro controller. I got the $70 one here, but there is a cheaper $30 option if you really want it (but personally I wouldn't recommend it). I primarily use my pro controller for MK8D and Splatoon 2.
The last major accessory you might want is an SD card. Depending on how many games he wants to download as opposed to using a physical copy, an SD card might be worth it. I think the best option is a microSDXC UHS-I card, but I don't remember. The size depends on how much money you can spend and how many games you wanna download. I wouldn't really go for anything below 64GB, but that's just me.

u/narf1998 · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I really enjoyed having it on the plane, made the time go by quicker. I rarely take my switch anywhere, hardly ever play in handheld mode, so I take the opportunity to play indie games and other mobile-ish games , completed Bulb Boy on my last flight. I definitely would recommend a carrying case if you're concerned about the system.

Depending on your seats, a stand might really come in handy. I used the fairly popular Stand from amazon. Worked really well on the seat in front of me and was pretty stable even in mild turbulence. Picture

I do find that games with motion kinda jack me up. Played MK8 and got a headache after a little while.

I have been dying for Animal Crossing. Everyone I know how has a 3DS has it and talks about visiting neighborhoods, designing things and fishing and farming and all the things ! The game looks too freakin' cute. I need it in my life.

My favorite game is... (gonna answer this) probably Halo: Combat Evolved or Viva Pinata, lol. Halo was the very first game I ever really played and my best gaming memories are of me and friends crowded around the TV playing that came split-screen or co-op. And Viva Pinata is just an awesome game. It's so involved and intricate with all the things you can do in it, yet so relaxing to just sit back, chill and enjoy.

Edit: New is preferred for this one.

u/makeshift_euphoria · 1 pointr/HiTMAN

I use a controller for everything but aiming, since you just can't beat a mouse for accuracy.

Generally, I find 3rd person games play better with a controller (analog stick/triggers), while 1st person games play better with a keyboard and mouse (easier to look around/aim).

You can also have the best of both worlds by pairing a PS3 Navigation Controller with a mouse, like this. Use the analog stick on the navigation controller for movement, and use the mouse to look around/aim.

A gaming mouse with lots of extra buttons (e.g. Logitech G600) would be ideal for this kind of setup.

mechanical keyboards are definetely nicer to play on(clicky and easy to tell when you press a key), but are more expensive, a gaming mouse will make a difference if the sensor is better than your current one.

For 60$ I would say

  • Logitech G303 Mouse

  • Large Steelseries mousepad

The large mousepad helps a lot and is really nice to use, so you can play on a lower sensitivity which will help you aim in games.

if you do get the money later on, you could get a mechanical keyboard like this one which had brown switches (more quiet but still "clicky").

Skull and co gripcase https://www.amazon.com/Skull-Co-GripCase-Set-Comfortable/dp/B078WH32Y7

Yeah price wise it’s steep if you only want the carrying case but the gripcase is easy to slip off and on your switch if it won’t dock for you.

The other case https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Game-Traveler-Deluxe-System/dp/B01N23OP50

Though I may snag https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Game-Traveler-Deluxe-System/dp/B01N23OP50 at some point since it would fit the pro controller and a joy con grip.

Of course the empty grips can really be packed in anything. They won’t break without a good deal of force.

Probably comes down to how often you would use the joy cons in their grip vs just using the switch in hand held mode.

u/zzevannn · 2 pointsr/PS4

$100 is only going to get you something used (like a t150 or g29) or something like the T80 that does not have force feedback, and force feedback is probably the biggest reason to use a wheel, so I personally would not recommend going that route.

The T300RS GT is on sale for $200 today for prime day, which is a really good deal for that level of kit. Cheaper than the T150 is usually, and it is a much higher quality wheel (I've had both.) If you've got the scratch right now, that is likely your best bet. Outside of prime day, the non-GT version, which only has two pedals, is typically around 230-250.

Also, browse a bit on /r/simracing, there are a lot of advice questions like this, as well as a very good buying guide that will help you get a good grasp on the options.

As a personal aside, spend a little more up front if you have any inkling this will be a hobby of yours. The t300 made a world of difference once I upgraded after hundreds of hours on the T150, and if you'll be spending a lot of time with it might as well get treat yourself up front.

Comes with a rechargable battery pack and a micro usb cable for charging (which also fits a phone so you can charge it on the XB1 if you desire). Regarding the Kinect, I love mine and use it all the time. I highly recommend you try it. Nothing quite like controlling your media/tv with your voice. I walk into the house and simply say "Xbox on" and my whole setup lights up - I can change channels/music while cleaning too which is boss. Welcome to the club!!!

We are RAOA. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Ok, that is cool, how did this implant happen? Was it a medical thing or a did you just have it done for the awesomeness of it? Nevermind, I scrolled down and read your explanation that you posted to someone else's question. How do I get this done myself? I would have to say that that is definitely something I would answer in response to your question.

But as far as more unlikely super powers go, I would like to have the power to communicate with animals. As if we were speaking (or telepathically thinking) english to each other. It could come in handy in many ways. Including learning secrets about other humans because how often do you think of hiding your secrets from your pets or wild animals? And it would have a nice Dr. Doolittle effect and make it really easy to become a veterinarian!

This game would be fun to have, it's playing a game where I would have that power, lol.

u/mechanicalgod · 2 pointsr/simracing

I assume instead of GTE you mean the T300 RS GT Edition.

This is the T300 RS GTE, and $400 is not a good price for it.

The difference is the GT Edition has better pedals than the GTE.

re: The T150. There is the Pro version that has the 3 pedal set, but it's currently unavailable on Amazon.

You can also get a separate 3 pedal set like the T3PA, or some refurbished G27 Pedals and the Leo Bodnar Adapter.

For a budget first-time wheel, maybe look second-hand? The G29 is mechanically exactly the same as the G27, and the G27 can normally be picked up for c. $200 or less second-hand.

Also bear in mind, the G29 does not come with a shifter, but the G27 does. If you want a shifter for the G29 you'll need to spend probably a minimum of c. $60 for the Logitech Shifter. However, the Logitech Shifter is pretty shit, so you might be better off getting at least the TH8A.

What's he difference between the G29, T150 and T300?

If you're comparing all the 3 pedal set versions, then the pedals are all virtually equal.

The difference is mainly FFB.

The G29 FFB is fine, but has a noticable deadzone at the top and can sometime feel a little bit notchy.

The T300 FFB is smoother, faster, stronger and quieter than the G29 and has virtually no deadzone. It's significantly better, but maybe not $150 better (depends on what it's worth to you).

I've been told the T150 FFB is somewhat between the G29 and T300, but I've not tried it myself.

It's actually a medium sized mouse so if you have, I guess, average sized hands then here is a good option. This mouse glows up on the logo and on the sides, but if you want to make it change to different colors or have a pulse effect, then you have to download the Logitech program thingy. There are no rubber parts on the mouse, so it is actually quite easy to keep clean. The design is also very neat. You can also customize your DPI if you have downloaded the program, which is actually very useful if you want to keep the same DPI that you are used to with your previous mice. I bought it around 6 months ago after my Razor Deathadder's buttons broke down, and it is still going strong. Currently, it is only $40 on Amazon.

The most important part of shot gun aiming, on a controller, is the ability to put jump onto your left hand, meaning you can aim and jump at the same time. Taking your thumb off the analogue to jump and then swiping the stick to try and aim again is really un-efficient way of aiming.

You will need: A scuff, battle beaver, XBOne Elite controller, doesn’t matter. Personally I use the FPS Strikepack Dominator, for my PS4, and it’s absolutely amazing. Heres the link to what I use.

Using the FPS I am able to set my left paddle/button on the back of the control to jump. So i can jump using my left ring finger without taking my right thumb off of the aim stick. It took me 3 days or about 8hours to get used to the extra button, but without a doubt, my aiming and shotgun confidence has improved massively. Judging on my aiming vs others, Id say as a rough guess that about 30-40% of players on console have the extra button. And these buttons are legal in MLG. If your Xbox, maybe look at an Xbox Elite controller, or PS I highly recommend what I use. Or just get a Scuff, but personally I think they are way to expensive for what they are.

This video will show you an example and is what convinced me... Skip to 3:30 to see it in use

For the price of a Scuff, I bought myself a brand new PS4 v2 controller in Steel Black, the FPS Strikepack Mod, and I can replace either one if they break and will still have spent less.

u/maxdps_ · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

If you want to buy once and never again, Fanatec is probably your best bet but it comes at a price.

ClubSport V2.5 Wheel Base is my recommendation for wheel base, check out the steering wheels you like and pick one, this is more preference. This base should basically last you forever, DD wheelbases are highly over-rated in my book.

ClubSport Pedale V3 because they come with the load-cell upgrade already and this is probably the most important upgrade if you take sim racing seriously, it greatly helps with your braking being more consistent.

If else, check out the setup I use. I honestly love it and I don't really see myself upgrading anytime soon. I plan on getting a new setup maybe next year and I'll most likely buy what I posted above if they are still available at the time.

a. these keyboards look and feel great.
b. there are different types of switches.

Would this or this be a good beginner keyboard? Could I eventually replace the switches with these 3D-resin-coated switches that I often see posted here?

I've also seen some beautiful keyboards with wood-grain and the likes; how does one go about aquiring that?

I'm not really a man of desire but given the low risk and evidently incredible rewards, just consider this comment a simple "thank you" and a placeholder. I'm sure I'll edit something in soon.

Edit: Can I ask for something that doesn't have a price yet? If so, I'd love a Nintendo Switch more than anything as a birthday/college graduation present. If not, a new PC would be much more than adequate.

I don't have thumb grips but I did find that this grip made shooters more comfortable. It says "trigger grip" but it doesn't actually have triggers so it's not totally accurate.

Also, practice seemed to help a lot. When I first bought Killzone: Mercenary, I had some trouble aiming but I got much better by the end of the game (and it's pretty short, so it didn't take long) so just stick with it and hopefully it will get easier.

It's a cheat device that hooks to a computer by USB. If I put the Animal Crossing cartridge in and open the software, I can back up the game on the computer, so I can have unlimited numbers of saved versions of the game. The device also has some poorly executed item downloads (I had to reset Narnia because I tried to download the King Tut mask, and it got stuck in inventory forever, so I stopped experimenting).

For Narnia, I have a weedy version for letting people weed, a rare item version, which has all the unorderable items and hybrids, and a version for my daughter's best friend, who sometimes likes to play and wants to make sure that the same villagers are always there. If someone visits and weeds, I can just hook the cartridge back up the computer and restore the weeds. Or, if someone takes a bunch of items, I can just restore the version with the rare items. So, if someone steals anything from Ennuia, I can just bring over items then restore Narnia.

Just FYI, a guy was doing adoptions on AdoptMyVillager with a powersaves. He had TT'd every single villager in the game into boxes and saved all the versions so that he could give away any villager.

u/Ness_Success · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

in that case i would say just get the pro controller... It's a great controller with a 'normal' design, and it has a D-pad, so wouldn't that solve the issue?
And the 'share the joy' (i like that tagline, haven't heard it before) feature is mainly only to be used when you are playing multiplayer with friends. I wouldn't expect anyone to use a single joy-con during a 1 player experience. Now if you were to put the D-Pad on there, it becomes less desirable as a solo controller...meanwhile not having the D-pad doesn't necessarily have any cons...no pun intended. But I guess that's just my personal opinion.

Edit: I guess the Pro controller would only be a solution when playing at home, but not on the go. Hori makes an interesting Switch controller, where the D-pad actually is removable and can be placed on the back of the controller for storage, so you can choose whether you want buttons or the D-pad: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-HORIPAD-Controller-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01NAUATSM

Would be interesting if they could make a simple D-pad cover for the joy-con, that snaps over the buttons or something like that.

Question 1: Are there any decent Cherry MX red/brown clones worth looking into? I find a lot of nice layout keyboards from mystery Chinese vendors, but I don't want an awful experience for half the price.

Question 2: Any recommendations on just the left side of a keyboard?

  • Number pad unecessary. Condensed navigation is fine.
  • No weird layouts. INSERT and DELETE close (or Fn overlap)
RIGHT SHIFT, RIGHT ALT, LEFT CONTROL, BACKTICK, 12 discrete FUNCTION KEYS.
  • Low profile key caps. (Spacebar 1.25cm. FN12 1.5cm.)
  • Quiet. Cherry red/brown or LP scissor switches. Light.

EDIT: I guess I'm looking for an 87 key or less keyboard. There are loads of them out there, but /r/mk people seem to be hating on them because the tactile response is different all over the keyboard. Here's some that I've been looking at.

    Reference:

  • 43cm https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0006JK9QK
  • Currently own this very low profile and quiet scissor switch kb.
  • Still working well after 7+ years of abuse.
  • It's too wide at 43cm and has an oddly condensed navigation pad.
  • xmodmapped Sweden/Finland key, Backslash, and Alt keys.
  • Silly bevel makes it even wider.

    Comparison:

  • 42cm https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01M4Q8TCX/
  • Demonstrates that a full keyboard fits within what I currently have. :/

Full navigation pad, no number pad:

  • 35.7cm https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01DBVGZSA/
  • Sane layout
  • These "Mechanical Eagle" keyboards seem really common, how are they?
  • Any options for "quiet" or "low profile" in this design? Perhaps minus the bevel?
  • Looks tall. Need ramp.

  • 35cm https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01EY9D2L6/
  • Even better than that mechanical eagle with no bevel
  • Concerned about quiet/low profile.
  • Looks tall. Need ramp

  • Nope: Can't do Fn function keys and backtick.

Super compact (condensed navigation, no number pad):

  • 31cm https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01N01RO2R/
  • Layout looks really good (I don't use right control, can map mod+right alt as right_super)
  • delete and insert same key is cool af
  • Fn pause/print/scroll is also cool af

  • Even better layout. Scroll lock? (Can probably map around it)
  • I read some bad stuff about "ZORRO" switches.
  • looks slightly shorter than last one.
  • honestly, the best layout. I might buy and then just order a bag of nicer switches if it comes down to it.

  • 35cm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VITZ98/

  • delete and insert over backspace.
  • huge bevel, mostly awful design.

  • 35cm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QFOKOO/

I know this won't help now but in the future I'd use one of these.

http://www.amazon.com/Action-Replay-PowerSaves-Pro-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B00IVJ1M7M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458522874&sr=8-1&keywords=power+saves

This lets you hookup the cart to your pc and create backups of the game save. Unlike protected saves between digital games, the power saves can switch the saves between carts or transfer to different ones. I personally have used one to move a save to a new cart.

I strongly recommend backing up saves for any game really since these types of things happen and backups are there to at least get you within a few days worth of lost stuff

OK, I play on PC so I think this should work for you.

I'm in the same boat. Grew up playing MK1-3 at the arcade and wanted to play MKX.

After trying to play on a controller, I couldn't get into it. So I decided to go the fight stick route. Had no clue which way to go but after lots of searching and whatnot, here';s what I found.

Biohazard and others like to use a TE2. It seems to be the bee's knees. I didn't want to sink $200 into a stick to try out so I got a Qanba Drone. The joystick didn't feel right so I found this tutorial that shows ya how to change the joystick out for a better one. Now, technically it's not like the old MK1-3 sticks in the arcade but I've grown to like it. You can change out the buttons too if you want but I haven't done that yet.

If you want a fight stick that's like the old MK arcade sticks, you want one of these.

Let me know if i can help ya out anymore.

Well truthfully, you won't see folks around here recommend K70s (or Corsair as a brand) very much. They, along with Logitech and Razer, represent a niche of very cheaply-made but well-marketed peripherals.

Sure, using a Corsair or a Razer is going to feel awesome in comparison to a stock Dell/HP rubber dome. But in comparison to a Ducky/Leopold/Filco/Cooler Master (or something you made yourself!), it's a pale comparison at-best.

If you like something similar (black, sleek, and RGB-enabled), I highly recommend you check out the Coolermaster Masterkeys Pro or the Ducky One 2 (confusing name, I know).

I really want Animal Crossing for the 3DS. I have AC for every platform it was made for (its my favorite game) and I would really love it for the 3DS. It sounds like it is going to be a really fun game and if I got it, it would keep me busy all summer break because I would play it 24/7. Which my family would like since I usually am bored since all my friends ditched me

u/Jax_daily_lol · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Obviously there is no "best," however, if you want a full sized mech with RGB, the ducky Shine 6 is a good option. Similar price to a K70 but better build quality. The CM Masterkeys pro L is another option that is probably cheaper and still slightly better build quality. Although corsair is definitely better than the likes of Razer, it is still priced expensively because of the brand name

I've seen G502s for $50 before, so I can say it does go on sale. Maybe less often than the others, but the G303 has the same sensor as the G502 and is often around that price range you mentioned, and has the same functionality (two side buttons etc).

Do note that the G502 has a lot of extra functions, like the free scroll wheel etc. Those are excessively useful in non-gaming scenarios. That being said, here it is for $60 USD at Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/logitech-g502-proteus-spectrum-optical-gaming-mouse-black/4803300.p?skuId=4803300

Anyone else mange to receive one of these Cooler Master intelligent RGB mechanical keyboards from Amazon yet? I ordered one during the last sale, which for me was Aug. 12, AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T SHIPPED THE DAMN THING. What gives here? As far as I can tell, it's in stock on Amazon, but it's just not being shipped out. Is it discontinued, or what? Surely some of you guys here who participated in the sale must've gotten this keyboard by now. At least they haven't charged me, due to it not having shipped yet.

Fortunately, I managed to get Amazon to issue me a $100 credit to my account due to this absurd wait, but the keyboard itself still remains unshipped. All they could tell me, is that'll ship once it becomes available, but why exactly isn't it available in the first place? How could I have managed to place an order it if it wasn't in stock in the first place? What did I place an order for? Thin air?

I suppose my decision now is, do I continue to wait for them to ship my original order, or do I cancel it and make a new order, whether that be on Amazon or somewhere else?

As an aside, has anyone here ever waited this long for an item like this, that being electronics and such?

If you're looking for something that's 20 bucks you can find the g100s easily on amazon for 20 dollars or less what we recommend is buying them on amazon then returning them(a few days is usually enough time to figure out if long term usage will give you cramps) and trying another mouse if you're in the United States, Best Buy sometimes has a selection of gaming mice that you can put your hand around.

In general, Das, for some reason or another, tend to be a little high-priced for the quality of the board. They're not bad, but you can find better for simliar pricing.

That particular Das you linked to uses some off-brand switch instead of Cherry or Gateron (Cherry is the original that they all copy, Gateron makes a well respected and popular clone).

For example, this Cooler Master Masterkeys L is cheaper, uses Cherry switches and has programmable white backlighting. And this Cooler Master Masterkeys L is only a little more expensive, uses Cherry switches and has programmable RGB lighting.

And Form Factor (from your other post) describes the physical size and layout of a keyboard. Full/100% is your standard keyboard. TKL is the next step smaller, and cuts off the numberpad. 60% is when you take a TKL and chop off the Arrow/Navigation keys and the F1-12 row, leaving just the alphanumeric characters and the surrounding modifiers.

Those are about the three most common form factors, but there are others as well (40% for those looking for something really portable and compact. 65% for those who want a 60% but can't live without the arrow keys.).

u/Lorben · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I have two of these and they're not bad. You need to update the firmware before you use it and it's a pain to sync up, but once you have it running it's surprisingly OK for a $20 wireless controller. I use them as guest controllers for my kid's friends who I don't trust with an expensive set of Joycons or a Pro controller.

If you want something cheap that'll work without any setup try a wired Hori controller.

Also if you're having stick drift with Joycons and you're in North America you can send them into Nintendo and they'll fix them for free. If you do want to spend more to get a better controller stick drift is very uncommon in Pro controllers and 8bitdo controllers

u/MiRiHi · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Really depends on whether you need gyro controls and/or HD rumble. If you need either of those i would suggest just sticking to the joy-cons in the grip and save up for the pro controller. Otherwise, there are great wired options out there. Most notably the controllers from PowerA and HORI. Also personally I think the PowerA controller looks better than the pro controller but that's just my opinion.

If you play a lot of 2D games I'd recommend this controller. Probably the best 2D controller for the switch and has thumbsticks for 3D games.

u/scoobythebeast · 0 pointsr/xboxone

I highly recommend the xbox stereo headset its on sale at Amazon for about $60 but is a good quality headset for that price. It does game audio and voice chat and its pretty comfortable. When you don't want to use it, you can leave the puck in (chat adapter) and it stays out of the way, but unplug the headset's 3.5mm plug easily and without worries of breaking it.

I think until Sony releases a more reliable move controller solution (one that doesn't get obscured by your head/body/chair whenever you turn around or reach down) I'm fine with controller support only.

After playing RE7 and overcoming VR sickness from smooth locomotion (RE7 does a great job darkening your peripheral vision when you turn and move quickly so that helps a lot) I'm feeling like more controller based FPS games are possible without the need for janky teleportation mechanisms.

I can almost see a future game that uses both the move controller and the DS4 controller, but not necessarily at the same time; although I can't figure out the logistics of having to set down one controller and pick up the other unless the PS4 is actively tracking the position of both so it can show you where you left them in the real world.

Didn't Sony come out with a nunchuck-like move controller attachment to give you the ability to have a navigation option along with one hand to swing a sword or something? Why can't we do that?

u/ZambonieDrivor · 3 pointsr/PS4

PowerA Charging Station - 2 controllers, not little kid friendly, as it has a spring to load/unload the controller and kids will just pull it off. If the spring is in the incorrect position, it can be difficult to put the controller on charge.

Collective Minds PSVR Stand and Charging Station - 2 controllers, 2 move controllers, and 1 USB slot for headset or PSVR AIM controller.

PlayStation Platinum Headset - Went through 2 PS Gold headsets due to weak plastic frame. Platinums feel more sturdy. Haven't used too much to test durability. Great sound, but I am not an audiophobe.

PSVR AIM Controller - Got it bundled with Firewatch. Read that it felt good in hands. I thought it felt a little awkward, but definitely easy enough to use. Just have to get used to the button layout.

AC Infinity Fans - These are 80mm fans. It comes with 2 fans in parallel that are powered over USB. I don't use my PS4's USBs, because those are taken up with other accessories, so I have it attached to my surround sound receiver. One fan pulling air from the back of the Pro, and the other directing the fan out of the shelf area. I recommend these, as I've noticed the spin up on my Pro has significantly went down.

My first fightstick was a Qanba Q1. I replaced the stick and buttons with Sanwa parts as per the usual advice. I really dug it. So much so, in fact, I'm thinking about buying a Qanba Drone for a backup stick and adding a Sanwa JLF and Hayabusa buttons(my personal preference ever since I bought a Hori RAP4). I'm also currently planning a custom fightstick build, but thats neither here nor there. If you're set on buying a stick, the Qanba Drone should make a great first one, assuming the quality is on par with the Qanba Q1. Its a bit on the light side but it can be weighted. You can get stick on weights at any hobby store like Hobbytown USA etc. Just remember to switch out the stick and buttons with Sanwa parts. Heres a video guide for switching out the stick and buttons.

Reposting this because it got buried in the last thread.

I need help on deciding a case. I've narrowed it down to four, but I suppose if none of them are great, I could go for a fifth option.

Protection is a big thing here, so if any of these are flimsy, let me know.

PDP Nintendo Switch Premium Console Case

RDS Industries, Inc Nintendo Switch Game Traveler Deluxe System Case

Orzly Carry Case for Nintendo Switch

2017 Switch Hard Shell Carry Case

While I like the portability the smaller ones have, the big one being able to carry everything is a big bonus. Protection is a huge factor too.

  • Best I can recommend at that price would be a Qanba Drone

    > Also I saw these octagonal restrictor gates and just wanted to ask what are they?

  • Old American Arcades often used an 8 way gate that allowed rolled corners. Japanese arcades use a square one that makes the corners hard instead of rolled. USe whatever you like, however I personally learned square since it is much more common and makes playing on a random cabinet way easier.

If you don't mind playing wired, the HORIPAD is an awesome value. That's what I ended up going with after getting a Pro Controller. However, the HORIPAD is so comfy, sometimes I use it instead of the Pro Controller, especially with how much better its D-pad is. I have certain friends that are really rough on my controllers as well, so it's a perfect one to hand them.

I'm looking to buy a Switch through Amazon. I notice the cheapest options (all the options under $300) are from "Just Launched" sellers and mostly are shipping straight from China.

The price of a Switch is a bit high for me, so I want the cheapest option, but am I right to be wary of the cheapest Amazon offers (Found here)?

Any advice on how to get a Switch for the cheapest price? I see it is $300 on Best Buy - is that my best option?

Here are my recommendations:

G303

G502

EC2-A

DeathAdder Chroma

They're all great mice with the best sensors out there, so you should make your choice based on shape and price. Especially the G303, great mouse but the shape takes getting used to. Best of luck

I have two different 3rd party docks, I've been using both for months now without issue. Here's a brief review for you...

Fastsnail dock

Pros:

  • Smaller than the original dock
  • Works with any power adapter, if it doesn't get enough juice it will drain your battery while in docked mode.
  • Very cheap alternative

    Cons:

  • I can get this to fit in my case but I wish it was a little smaller
  • No problems with it yet but the build quality feels very 3rd party.

    Link

    C-Force 2

    Pros:

  • Smallest Dock available
  • Very nice build quality, same engineers that worked with Nyko on their dock

    Cons:

  • Only works with 15v power adapters, which are generally much larger and out weigh the size advantage.
  • Expensive, $70 and doesn't come with any cables

    Link

Ultimately I use the Fastsnail dock when I travel. I can fit the dock, an Aukey power adapter, headphones, usb cable, slim HDMI cable, 4 straps, and an extra pair of joycons into this case. Which basically gives me everything I need to have a 4 player console on the go. I don't use C-force for travel because most of the 15v power adapters are too big to fit into the case.

Ill build two routes handheld gaming and docked.

Docked

Switch - $300

Pro Controller -$65

Legend of Zelda BOTW - 44.99

Mario Kart 8 -$55

Total - $ 464.00

Handheld

Switch - $300

Legend of Zelda BOTW - 44.99

Nintendo Official Wall Charger - $28 (I choose this because I am very picky about power options with consoles and I know this will function)

Switch Case - $15 (This can be hit or miss a lot of people love butterfox but my two smelled like shit and opted for a better version, but for the price it is unbeatable, worth the risk of the smell)

Mario Kart 8 -$55

Total - $443

Games can be changed in and out but imo BOTW is the best game on the switch and Mario Kart 8 is loads of fun. I personally do not have a pro controller, mainly because I play strictly handheld but from what I have been told it is a must for docked gameplay.

Edit: In the future you are going to need a SD card. Especially if you are going the Digital route, again personally I prefer physical and the at of collecting the games but that is me.

u/TheBeast1981 · 1 pointr/Switch

If you plan to play all together (4 players) and the budget is limited you can get just 1 more set of joycons since every joycon can be used as a controller so with 4 joycon (2 pair) you can play all together.

If you want to use a full joycon set as a single controller you may need a joycon controller grip or you can use them without it using the wriststraps included.

You can buy cheap but good wired horipad so you don't have to worry about charging batteries or kids throwing them since they are pretty cheap.

As other said you'll need a bigger MicroSD and I would recommend too to setup your switch the night before so it will be updated and ready when the kids open it christmas morning.

I just picked up the Qanba Drone fight stick. It’s cool for beginners. $60 but you can swap the stick and buttons when you want to upgrade. Takes some time getting used to it but once I got a button layout that worked for me, I prefer it to the DualShock.

That said, whatever is most comfortable to you is your best bet. The game’s default controls have a controller in mind so you’re set either way.

Tldr: Qanba Drone is a $60 beginner’s fightstick. Mod ready. Slight learning curve but I felt it was worth it. Do u tho.

If you want to use an actual stick, I'd say it's probably not worth getting the Alpha. Miniature sticks such as the Alpha and the Hori Fighting Stick Mini tend to be uncomfortable to use for extended periods of time, and are made using lower quality parts than full-size sticks. If you want a stick, the cheapest one I'd recommend would probably be the Qanba Carbon. I own one and it's a fairly nice stick for beginners. Technically it's not a PS4 controller, but Street Fighter 5 and a few other games support it in Legacy Mode. Check to see if the other fighting games you have support Legacy controllers. If they do, this is a great option for your price range. Otherwise, your next best bet is probably the Qanba Drone.

If you want a pad, the revamped fightpad pro is a good choice. I've never used one but the new model has gotten significantly better reviews than the problematic previous model. Personally I went with the Hori FC4, but the price has gone significantly up since that model isn't being manufactured anymore. The newer model is only $40 though, so that fits in your budget.

As far as Amazon goes, best advice is to be on the ball. You can go HERE to click the [Email Me] button, ensuring that you're updated when preorders go live. A solid guess is that it will go live after the Jan 12th presentation, but you better have it now to be sure.

As for in-store, I'm calling Gamestop one of these days to see if they already take pre-orders. People have reported that SOME stores are taking pre-orders now, and others will obviously wait for the Jan 12th presentation. So if you want a midnight release or in-store release, make sure to call some places now just to be sure.

I have both the Nyko Power Grip and the PDP Trigger Grip and I really like them both. I've found the Nyko is just a little more comfortable for me and I love the extra battery life but having the extended triggers on the PDP grip is useful at times. Either grip is definitely better than no grip. I'm a girl but 6ft and apparently my hands are just too large to play without them.

EDIT: The Nyko Power grip can be picked up in the wild for cheaper than that amazon link. I just put it up for reference. If you don't care about the extra battery life also check out the CTA Grip.

Well, I said "dock", but they're more like "small boxes with a cable" like this one.

Either way, yeah, since the Switch has been proved successful, Nintendo failed to provide an alternative to the standard dock and it's now known that Nintendo just uses an unusual protocol, we are now seeing a few of those popping around, likely with more to come.

I'm still waiting for one that comes with an external battery, attaches securely to the Switch and can double as a stand to play in tabletop mode, it'll happen eventually.

The reason I recommend this is because the latest development builds of Dolphin have native controller support built in. This means you can just setup the adapter to work with Dolphin and then plug in your Gamecube controllers and you're ready to go with no additional setup. The controllers auto calibrate just like on a real console and you can even unplug controllers and plug them back in during gameplay and everything will still work. It's works really awesome.

Even a 60% still has arrow keys and delete/insert, just that they're in the function layer and aren't dedicated. So I assume you want dedicated arrow keys and a delete / insert key.

In which case, you'll want to look for either a TKL / 65% .

For TKL, definitely go for the Quickfire Rapid (which for some reason is $100+ on Amazon right now, which is surprisingly high, you should be able to find one on mechmarket for like $50-60 pretty easily though).

For 65%, I would go with a magicforce 68.

Both have standard layouts (so getting replacement keycaps will be easy), as well as removable cables.

Yea! I ordered this one as well. Super easy to put together and everything stays in place. When I put my move controllers in, there was a nice 'click', and while they are easy to take back out, they aren't falling out any time soon. The RAP mini is okay but I wouldn't recommend it if you're going to upgrade. The buttons are small, not like all the other fightsticks. I would recommend the qanba drone instead : https://www.amazon.com/Qanba-Drone-PlayStation-4/dp/B01I0GEDEY

It's the cheapest fightstick that is worth it for the money, its only $10 more than the hori mini. The qanba drone also uses regular sized buttons so if you ever feel the need to commit to a larger stick in the future, the transition will be easier since it'll be same button sizes and stick size. The hori mini is small and it would be uncomfortable to play on your lap since you'd have to balance it on one knee, on top of that it doesn't have a lot of space for your wrists and hands. The drone is much more comfortable and has a slope for your wrists.

I know people don't like cheat devices, but another use of the 3DS Powersaves is the ability to back-up save data.

I'm not sure if it will backup and reload successfully since it's corrupt now, but you can create backups in for future play sessions.

u/NitroXIII · 1 pointr/vita

I have this one I don't play my Vita often at all, but it makes it so I CAN play it a ton if I want (usually only on vacations). It blocks the Charging port, but it's definitely comfortable, fairly similar to a wider PS3 controller. It doesn't have custom triggers. The back touch screen can be awkward, but I think that's just me and my very small hands. I really like having the handle extend downwards for grip, which is why I didn't get the smaller ones like the "compact" one you linked.

It's pretty similar in shape to the Niko one you linked, the Niko one has that extended life battery, which makes it heavier, but I've heard decent things about it as well. I don't think I've seen anyone really regret buying ANY of the grips available on the market from what I've seen, so just pick the one that looks most appealing to you.

Congrats on joining the community!

I'm no expert by any means and will just be providing my personal opinion/experience, but to answer your questions:

Question 1: Keep the headset out of direct sunlight, especially the inner lens. Some use the box to keep it stored, I purchased this which works great. Clean the lens with glasses cleaning cloth or lens pen cleaner, such as this.

Question 2: I wear glasses as well. I noticed after months of use a tiny scratch on the lens but it doesn't affect my gameplay at all. There are solutions out there I'm sure, but I have not invested into any. PSVR is considered safe to use with glasses.

Question 3: I don't know the worst game, but I can give you a small list of the ones I've played and would say are worth getting in no particular order:

Batman,
Battlezone,
Eve:Valkyrie,
Resident Evil,
Farpoint (/w Aim Controller),
Playstation VR Worlds,
Robinson: The Journey,
Dirt Rally (/w Steering Wheel),
StarWars Battlefront (for X-wing mission - I found it cheap for $10),
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

It's not hard to find amazing upcoming game, as this sub posts them often. Just to name a few I'm stoked for:

Skyrim VR,
Ace Combat 7,
Doom VR

Hopefully this helps you - goodluck!

Edit: I missed your last question. I linked already to the VR stand. Get a pair of Move controllers and Aim Controller.

As a parent of two girls, I'm constantly having this conversation about the difference between want and need. It's not that I'm trying to be a buzz kill, but I'm trying to instill in them the economic savvy to know if something is necessary or frivolous. Most of the time, they realize that what they thought they needed is really something they just wanted.

So, in compliance with your rules, I went through my wishlist and had a want/need debate on every item, to figure out what I really want. I threw out anything with any practical, helpful, occupational, or educational benefits. We're going for pure frivolity here. And since you didn't set a price limit, and I don't have any delusions about winning, we're going to go with the thing I want the most, but definitely don't need. I'm a 42 year old man, there's no way I'd ever talk myself into buying that...but I still want it.

Also, I realize I'm a bit of a statistical outlier here, but I kinda like the potato.

u/master0fdisaster1 · 1 pointr/DolphinEmulator

Stay away from 3rd party gamecubecontrollers.
They are horrible and won't last long. Atleast every single one i had yet.

Spend the extra money and buy original gamecube controllers from Nintendo. Trust me it's worth it. If there is any aspect of Nintendo's hardware to praise that it'd be it's resilliance.

The "Mayflash GamecubeController adapter for PC and Wii U" and "Nintendo GamecubeController adapter for Wii U" have native support and function perfectly in dolphin so you don't have to worry about input lag or button configuration or anything else.

Seriously, there is no better way to play gamecube (&Wii) games on pc than with orginial controllers and one of those two adapters.

u/HortonHearsAGenocide · 2 pointsr/SSBM

On 20xx vs normal Melee: it doesn't matter. 20xx has L-cancel lights and random music if you're interested.

On stage zoom: there might be something out there but you'll get used to the camera pretty quickly, it's fairly good and intuitive

On Xbox controller: other people have you advice on how to set it up but if you're ever planning on going to an actual tournament you'll want a real GameCube controller. To pick one up for Dolphin you can get an adapter here:

https://www.amazon.com/Super-Smash-GameCube-Adapter-Wii-U/dp/B00L3LQ1FI

and a controller here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00O9GW8VK/ref=pd_aw_sim_63_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=518Z8rDdJEL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL100_SR100%2C100_&psc=1&refRID=RJYQ1G895VQENF05P5BE

If you have any interest in playing Smash Wii U these will work for that too. A guide on how to set it up for Dolphin is here: https://www.smashladder.com/guides/view/258h/controller-setup-guide

Looking For: Claw Grip, at least 4000 DPI, 5+ buttons (preferably right thumb)

Budget: $50

Handedness: Right

Currently Using: Logitech M705 (perfect shape and buttons but not a gaming mouse, way low DPI and polling rate)

Tried: Redragon Mammoth

Details:

I got this awesome Redragon Mammoth for Christmas. For 30 bucks, it's a steal with plenty of buttons and as much as 16400 DPI.

I've never had a gaming mouse before but find 4000 DPI both intuitive and comfortable to use. I could probably move it higher as I acclimate so I'd like to be able to go higher but at this point not a necessity.

The only issue is I use a Claw grip and this is clearly designed for Palm. Over long play sessions it causes my thumb to feel pain/strain since I need to bend it unnaturally to reach the side buttons.

I have to return it, it's causing me physical pain, but I don't know what to replace it with.

EDIT: Some more detail. The M705 has three side buttons (one is actuated by squeezing near the base) and the scroll wheel support left/right tilt. I find the three thumb buttons and the tilt to be quite perfect.

TLDR: I want an M705 with 4000+ DPI and 1000 MHz polling rate.

EDIT2: Based on how active this sub is, I think I just waited too long to post in this thread. Making this it's own thread =)

SmashBros is not only great, it's also still super grassroots, not run by a company, and completely free besides the initial cost. This documentary is a great intro to the scene.

How to get started

Melee - big combo style, very advanced metagame, total start cost $40
Install Dolphin
Install the 20XX Melee ISO
Buy a Gamecube Controller and a Gamecube/USB Adapter
Start practicing

---

Smash 4 - small combo style, infant metagame, total start cost $450
Buy Wii U, Smash 4, and a Controller + Adapter
Start Practicing (wii u has online play built in)

And don't forget to hit up /r/smashbros

Are firmwares not known by serial or other numbers on the co sole at this time?

I. The past I remember it being possible to tell when the console was produced>what firmware it had by serial.

Edit: nevermind, it seems manufacture date is located on the ps4 box, and I’ve found a partial list of mfg date and firmware version.

Here is the incomplete list

mostly start dates. with no end dates, but im fairly certain the mfg date on any new box will be enough to determine firmware, unless it is a newer bundle/ps4 slim that is still in production.

i live in a fairly large city, and all stores have many older bundles. they are also available online.

i found the uncharted bundle in the link above for 340, which seems reasonable to me.

obviously a used unit or unit you can test is best. personally ill take my chances on the mfg date ob the box when i buy eventually. (totally broke for a bit).

*hereis the uncharted 500gb slim model. 5 dollars less than a 1tb with uncharted included. NOTE: this is an affiliate link from the above listed site! If you wish, please search it out on your own as to not give $$ to the above site if you so wish. I have no connection with them and this is a disclaimer.

There are pro models with firmware starting at 4.05-4.07, but it will be harder to determine pro firmware from the date, unless you search for more Info, which I’m sure is easily doable.

If anyone buys a ps4 pro, let an active forum list know what firmware it has!

Logitech is the best option for mice. I currently use a Logitech G303 but they aren't sold anymore. What is your budget? Left or right handed?

EDIT: I did a quick search on PC Part Picker: Mice and found the best mouse for the price. Check out this Logitech - G300S Wired Optical Mouse. It's currently on sale for only $24.90 on Amazon and normally sells for $40. I already have two extra mice still in their packages but might have to buy this one now too, as it's a great deal.

I don't know if this is of interest to you, but I play on PC with Mouse + PS3 Move Navigation controller. There are a couple of ways to get the controller to work but the easiest is to simply buy the Mayflash PS3 to USB adapter.

The Move controller is one handed, so you hold it in your off hand that would normally be placed on the WASD keys. For me, it's mainly a comfort thing.

u/Nope1252 · 3 pointsr/Xenoblade_Chronicles

If you're strictly just looking to pouch spam and AFK farm core crystals, buy this and watch this and this.

If you still want to emulate and automate inputs for whatever reason, the Switch supports USB peripherals. If you want to use a controller, use a GC adapter and solder an Arduino to a GCC board (or splice the wires) and run macros off of it. Otherwise you could just spoof an HID using your preferred microcontroller. Spoofing joy-cons sounds like a lot more work.

There's a surprisingly detailed tutorial by Hax$ and WatchingTime on how to install an Arduino Uno in a GCC here. The purpose is to help with advanced techniques in another game, but the script should help you get started.

Good luck.

To save you a little time, you can go straight to the section on controllers in the faq: https://www.reddit.com/r/wiiu/wiki/faq#wiki_controllers

To give you an idea of a specific case, Mario Kart 8 has a flying (gliding, actually) part where you steer with motion control even if you've been using the thumbsticks for steering. I've read people saying that the motion control for MK8 works exactly the same with the Motion Plus as with the classic wiimote, but I don't know for sure.

My guess is that friends are going to prefer to have a pro controller for driving, unless they are already used to tilt control for steering the car. Although, if someone's really good relative to other people, it might be fun to have them handicapped by having to use tilt control to steer.

Also there's a bridge for Smash for the hardcore that want to use GameCube controllers on it. http://www.amazon.com/Super-Smash-GameCube-Adapter-Wii-U/dp/B00L3LQ1FI Just to let you know some of the options.

u/DrakonLitshed · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

You can use it on all games that don't require motion controls like ARMS. As long as it uses traditional controls like Zelda you can use the pro controller.

For me i know i'm going to find the joy-cons very comfortable, when i tried the PS Move i didn't like the motion control features but i immediately thought it would be really comfortable if i had just 2 of those navigation controllers i could let my arms rest comfortably at my sides/on chair arms to play.

  1. Keep it in the box, or on a stand. Always have some sort of glasses cleaning cloth to wipe the lenses periodically. It isn't the "fragile" type of expensive, so you should be fine with whatever solution you come up with.

  2. The system helps you figure out the best IPD settings by taking a picture of your face, but some would argue that it should be a little higher or lower.

  3. The Martian VR is the only one I can really think of. EDIT: And Loading Human! That game was the most disappointing game I have ever played.

  4. I personally like getting physical copies of games, but that is just preference in case I want to resell the game. Though it is easier to switch between games if you digitally download them.

  5. A charging VR stand like the Collective Minds one is a good investment as you don't have to keep around the controller chargers or use up USB ports on the system. Speaking of, make sure you have the move controllers. Don't spend a lot on headphones, any pair of headphones should work.

They advertise that they are somehow selling a 12nm Direct Drive wheel for $399 that is competitive to the $900 Accuforce wheel.

However, what they fail to mention are the sustained torque figures. The only "affordable" servo motor that can hit 12nm (as they advertise) is the MiGe 130ST-M04025. This budget servo motor is only capable of 4NM sustained.

This means that it's NOT a competitor to the Simexperience Accuforce wheel that offers 13nm sustained (with a 16nm peak).
This means that it's only capable of competing with the other ~$400 wheels-sets like the T300RS, which Feel VR is charging $599 for on Indiegogo

Hope this helps!

Measured sustained/holding torque (excluding peaks):
Logitech DFPro: ~1.1 Nm (rumored, unable to find loadcell/torque measurment)
Logitech DFGT: <2.5 Nm
Logitech G920/G29 2.2 Nm
Logitech G27: 2.3 Nm
Mige 80ST-M02430: 2.39 Nm
Logitech G25: 2.5 Nm
Fanatec GT2: 2.6 Nm

Fanatec CSW v1.5: 5.2 Nm
Fanatec CSL Elite: 6.0 Nm
Thrustmaster TS-PC Racer: 6.0 Nm
Fanatec CSW v2: 6.0 Nm
Fanatec CSW v2.5 : 7.3 Nm
Leo Bodnar Simsteering2: 8.05 Nm
Mige 130ST-M10010: 10 Nm
Lenze MCS12H15L: 11.4 Nm
Simexperience Accuforce v1/v2: 13 Nm
Mige 130ST-M15015: 14.4 Nm
Fanatec Podium DD1: 15 Nm (as advertised, not confirmed)
FREX DD WHEEL: 16 Nm
Fantec Podium DD2: 18 Nm (as advertised, not confirmed)

Note: Most Mige 10/15 users run their motors at ~25-50% torque.
Note2: Holding torque is arguably the most important factor when it comes to using a wheel. However other factors such as smoothness, linearity, drive type, peak torque, ease of use/setup/configuration, game support, software, etc etc should not be ignored when picking a wheel. Research accordingly.

Get a gaming mouse with at least 3 easy to use buttons for the thumb. It makes your life 500x easier for kit swapping. I personally use the Redragon M801 Mammoth, but something like the Logitech G602 would also work rather well.

Also take the time to learn every skill in those kits and how they can be used. Condi engineer is very powerful in open world and fractals if you can play it right.

Seems to me there's three reasons to buy Wii U Smash when you already have it on 3DS:

  • You have a crew that comes over and games and Smash would get played.
  • You want to start going to tournaments, you should be practicing on the right hardware and the most recent software updates.
  • You are certain you'd play online and you want the bigger screen when you do.

I bought it when we got the Wii U over Christmas because of the first bullet point; Fighting games aren't my jam, but if we have 5+ people over then odds are 3 or more will be up for Smash. I rarely play it by myself, but it sees as much play as anything we own because of people coming over.

If you decide to get it, you'll need the right set up too. Fighting game tournaments require wired controllers, and on the Wii U that requires an adapter.

If you buy a new console, look for the Smash/Splatoon Bundle:
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nintendo-Wii-U-Splatoon-and-Super-Smash-Bros-Console-Deluxe-Set/46332497

I think it was a holiday special, but you may be able to find a local walmart, target, or something that still has it for $300. If you can't, the Mario Kart bundle is less than $300 on Amazon, and Smash is usually right at $50 new on there.

In addition to the gamepad (default controller), there's two options for Smash-compatible controllers, the "Fight Pad" that plugs into the back of the WiiMote, and the "Smash Bros Gamecube Controller" that plugs into a Gamecube adapter. At tournaments, they'll make you use Gamecube controllers wired through an adapter, otherwise there's too much interference.

If you have old Wii accessories, you can use wiimote/nunchuk combos from that, and if you have the gamecube adapter you can use old gamecube controllers.

Lots of the Smash DLC is discounted if you buy it for the 3DS and Wii U at the same time.

Don't forget, there's lots of other solid games for the Wii U that aren't on any other console - you can find lists in other places on this or the Wii U sub - that may make the math look a little better.
u/MisterMangu · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch
  1. Yes we do. Did you see Skyrim? That's not the remastered version, wanna take a guess why that is?
  2. PS4 and XB1 constantly go on sale for 250, and right now you can get it for 260 on amazon. With a game. Switch comes with no games bundled. https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Slim-500GB-Console-Uncharted-Bundle/dp/B01LRLJV28/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484286542&sr=8-1&keywords=PS4
  3. Yes, but they were the strongest/most capable home consoles on the market at the time. The Switch is not, aside it's portable aspect, it has nothing grand to offer for that price. They single handedly alienated both their home console and handheld market.
  4. Yes, 3rd party shovelware. They showed nothing in this presentation to prove me otherwise, because they would be showing the most anticipated releases of 2017, not..this.
  5. Yes, hyperbole on my part but their launch line up is not good. It's just a bunch of mini type games and simple couch co op games. Zelda was the only game showed that people actually..you know..want. Mario is in the holidays and splatoon 2 is in spring.

Cmon now, stop trying to defend this shit.

Ah, you're right! Sorry for misreading. That said, for the same price you can get a Cooler Master MasterKey Pro L or an iKBC F108 for the same price or cheaper, which are RGB full size keyboards with arguably better build quality and keycaps (although the CM board does not have PBT keycaps). They also have standard keycap sizes (as opposed to the nonstandard bottom row that Corsair uses), so switching out keycaps is much easier.

They're a little more boring looking, sure, but I'd say they're a better value for their build quality and keycap compatibility alone.

Then again, if you don't really value that, and care more about the looks of the case (which I used to be a fan of myself!) and the software integration with games, I suppose there isn't anything wrong with going with the Corsair board. I can't change your mind there.

I bought these for my GF's PS4. I put jump on the right and melee on the left. It's not as much control as a KBM, but it helps for sure. It's wired, and you have to make sure you turn on the PS4 without it connected, then connect after signing in. The paddles don't break, they actually fall out because they're connected via magnets. Don't toss it across the room, you won't lose the paddles. However, you also won't worry about snapping them because they just disconnect. Also the extra long charging cable is nice.

If your right hand is fine I'd highly recommend using a mouse in your right hand and a controller in your left.

You don't lose any real competitive advantage in most shooters this way. The PS3 nav controller for move should work quite well, or even just a regular controller 1 handed.

Im getting my switch in about a week and a half, so i've started to look for accesories, and I think i need some help :P

Initially ill be getting Mario Kart, so im going to buy the official Joy Con Wheel x2 thing.

I was also going to buy a carrying case, and I saw this one, which looked nice.

The last thing I was going to buy for now was a screen protector, since i've heard they can get scratched easily when placing/removing the console from the dock, so I was thinking of buying this one. I also saw a Hori screen protector, but it has horrible reviews (Mostly complaining about it unsticking at the bottom of the switch because of the heat when being docked).

So, are these good choices or should I buy some other one instead?

Also, ill probably end up buying a controller, however, I find the pro controller to be too expensive, so I was thinking of buying the Hori one which is much more affordable, but is it any good? Are there any other good controllers? And I was looking at Hori stuff, so I stumbled upon the Playstand, and the game case. Are they worth buying?

Sorry if this comment is too big, im very hyped for the Switch, and I dont want to ruin my experience with bad accesories =)

EDIT: I forgot to ask, Is a big SD Card worth it? How much space would you recommend if it is?

u/_3_7__ · -1 pointsr/Rainbow6

Look up the FPS Strikepack on google, basically it clips on your controller and adds 2 paddles on the bottom like a scuf, it’s also a modpack but I don’t use any mods

The paddles have magnets in them and you can remove both or one of them if you’d like. So I remove the right one and set the left one to circle

I really like it, way more than scuf, and it’s only like 40 dollars. You can set the paddles to any button on your controller in seconds, it’s really easy to use

I have tried the Xbox Elite and the Scuf Vantage. I MUCH prefer the standard DS4 controller with a Strike Pack attachment.

The Elite was very nice, but the joysticks are a lot looser than the DS4. For someone like me who likes to snipe, it proved insurmountable. However, the quality of the controller is excellent and I use it with my Xbox. The resistance that the DS4 joysticks provide gives you a greater degree of control and accuracy in my opinion.

I pre-ordered the new Scuf Vantage thinking it would be the answer. Unfortunately, the quality is noticeably subpar and cheap. The sticks are better than the Elite, but not as good as a stock DS4. The upper paddles are difficult to reach to the point where I gave up on even using them. I returned it after a week of trying to make it work. Not at all worth the price, IMO.

Okay I will admit if we're going to argue semantics, then no technically I don't need RGB, but we are doing a custom room dedicated to gaming and we're doing mood lighting with LED strips and this is the only thing that will throw off the lighting since my current keyboard is RED only. I will look into the CoolerMaster Keyboard though.

I appreciate your help and sorry for being snippy. (Never thought I would say that on the internet lol)

CoolerMaster This board here. Except that godawful CM windows key haha

I dont have answers for you but I'll be traveling from the US to Isreal soon so I'm interested as well.

I dobsuggest having a stand that you can adjust the angle on if you don't already, however. I have this one and it's great as it's foldable and has an opening to plug in the charger. It really makes it more comfortable to view without having to hold it in those airplane seats.

u/wishful_cynic · 1 pointr/PS4

Thanks, but I chose the CTA grip.

I read the grips guide in /r/Vita's FAQs and for about $25 less (not interested in the battery feature) than the Nyko, the CTA seemed like my best option.

u/Wescyde · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I would get another C-Cable, I have 3 one for my Pro Controller (came with it) connected to the dock to charge, 1 in my room and one for travel this is a good pair for a good price

https://www.amazon.com/Snowkids-Braided-Charger-Macbook-Nintendo/dp/B01ISLH4V0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1499366355&sr=8-3&keywords=c+cable

Think about a small travel case if you intend to take it places and maybe a stand like a Lamicall one
https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Angle-Nintendo-Switch-Lamicall-Playstand/dp/B01LZAYH58/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499366407&sr=8-1&keywords=lamicall+switch+stand

It works really well and folds up for easy traveling.

HAVE FUN

FWIW I use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Collective-Dominator-Controller-Adapter-playstation-4/dp/B01L8QHXJA/ref=asc_df_B01L8QHXJA/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312141147012&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17258062101335092609&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9002310&hvtargid=aud-800703102928:pla-353370169105&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=62842319515&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=312141147012&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17258062101335092609&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9002310&hvtargid=aud-800703102928:pla-353370169105

It adds paddles to the back of my controller that are programmable on the fly. You hold a button on the adapter and press the button you want to assign. It allows me to use things like alt-fire on amps and guns in a much easier fashion. It can also be used to do things like jump or ADS.

Also, I have never needed or wanted to use the included mods, and basically got this to avoid buying a super expensive third party controller with built in paddles.

I have somewhat large hands, but I have been very happy with my Redragon Mammoth.

Adjustable DPI is nice. I don't move my wrist either, and it's easy to grip.

u/crustykeeb · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Trying to find a stand just like the one linked below, but that doesnt block 50% of each of the ventilation openings on the back of the console. Does such a thing exist? Ive been on amazon, wish app, ali express, and i havent found one yet. I love this one because its aluminum (so its sturdy enough for me), lightweight, folds flat, and fully adjustable.

u/Lady_Rebellium · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It's simple, for sure. I'd like a pouch for cables and such, though. And, like I mentioned, this Surge one is formed specifically for the joy cons, which I feel like most case manufacturers didn't consider.

As for traveling with all my components, I quite like the RDS Deluxe bag, just because of the separated compartments and hard casing.

I design levels with the Switch on this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZAYH58/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_mV1gDbHVB8ABZ

And use my left hand on the Switch and my right hand using a Stylus. I find that I can relax pretty easily with this setup on a tv-tray or lap-tray (like you would use with a laptop)

u/doomddo · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

AHHHHHH I want that game so bad! EVERY ONE is talking about it!!!! New Leaf is the only thing I have that is Animal crossing on my WL but its over 20$ :/
so If I could get a Gift card to help me get the game that would be cool!!! and when I do get it. I might need to get your friend code! :D

u/LogicalFlakes · 1 pointr/vita

How big are your hands?

Edit: Eh. I'll just throw the cheapest two grips I know of and have used. These grips are for the 1000 model.

PDP Trigger Grip is the only trigger grip that I know of that works well. Good for big hands and small hands. Medium hands... not so much.

CTA Grip is the best non trigger grip for your money. It does what the Nyko Grip does at a cheaper price and... that's all there is to it. It's a grip. The other alternative to this is the Japanese Assist Grip and the Nyko Vita Grip. Great for any size hands.

u/LeavesCat · 316 pointsr/nintendo

Look up the HORI Nintendo Switch pad; it's an official wired switch controller with no motion sensors included. It's basically the Pro Controller, except since it doesn't have the gyros and the rumble and the Amiibo sensor, it's only 25 USD instead of 80.

Since none of the special features of the more expensive controllers will ever be useful to you, and are in fact more likely to be a hindrance, wouldn't the best solution to this and future problems be to get a controller that doesn't fight you?

I understand if $25 is too much, but if you're committed to having a Switch and being able to play the games you want to play, one good controller will make your playing experience so much better.

In fact, with the right setup, you can hook up an Xbox controller to the Switch and have it work. I'd look up a guide if that interests you at all.

u/louimcdo · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

On the tail end of this DQT but worth asking. Does anyone own the Horipad controller? I'm considering picking up a second controller so I am torn between another set of joycons and a procontroller. Then I saw this was half the price.

I'm aware the horipad has no gyro or rumble but it would be used for co-op/multiplayer for games. Overcooked, MK, rocket league etc

If I got a pro controller I'd use it for multiplayer but would also use it myself for splatoon and future games since it has motion control and rumble, also the wireless functionality is appealing.

And the joy cons pro is that it would give me 4 controllers, although it's unlikely i'd need anymore than 3 at a time, and I'm digging the green/pink splatoon colours.

The joycons are comfortable for me to hold so ergonomics isn't a big factor for picking pro controller.

Just wondering what people would recommend.

This mic for Xbox One I bought recently and it's a great price: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-One-Stereo-Headset/dp/B00IAVDQCK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408815286&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+one+stereo

I'm not really into talking in game chat but it's great for talking with friends and listening to game audio. Plus you can plug earbuds into the adapter too if you just want audio.

u/shitpostDeluxe · 2 pointsr/StreetFighter

there's no such thing as a "beginner" stick. you just need to get one that uses decent parts like sanwa. unfortunately that means you will have to spend more but I recommend Hori

if you're really strapped for cash try this stick and then mod it later with sanwa parts

also playing on pad is perfectly viable, even more so for SFV. so don't feel like you need to get one unless you have aspirations to go to japan one day and play against the arcade heads

u/SwimmingAshes · 5 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

If you want a clicky keyboard you'll want one with MX Blues or one of its many clones.

I would avoid Corsair if possible, they are quite poor value for what you get and you will have difficulty swapping the keycaps in the future due to a non-standard bottom row.

Take a look at the Cooler Master Masterkeys series of keyboards.

They are comparable to the Corsair but better built and better value and more open-ended when it comes to customization.

Just choose the layout you want (full size, TKL, etc) and choose "MX Blue (clicky)" and you're good to go.

u/aluisi77 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Just got the regular one. My friend has the Zelda one. I know the regular one has these odd indents on the top that look like it gives less room but its exactly the same as the Zelda ones on the inside. I wanted a normal back case cuz its less assuming when caring around the switch logo is small so it doesn't draw to much attention to HEY LOOK AT ME CARING A SWITCH!!!

It will fit 8 games total. The small ones for the 4 micro SD cards are the size of a switch cart I just took them out. No reason to carry 4 SD cards. The plastic game cases sit under the switch in a cut out made for the cases.

What I carry in my case is 4 games. The switch with joycons attached. 2 JoyCon straps and a official Nintendo USB C cable. If you want something to carry everything just replace the extra JoyCons on the grip for the pro controller this one is a nice option and its the same price everywhere. I have look at Walmarts ToysRus and Target they are all $39 for this case and its small the same size as the NES Classic case they made.

ONLY DOWNSIDE OF THESE CASES
I cant stress this enough though. These cases F-ing stink like cigar smoke. I don't know why but they do. I left mine open in a well ventilated area for a few days the and smell went away. That's the only downside of RDS cases.

My favorite mouse of all time. Not for the dpi (I only go up to 1200), but for the superb feel in hand. I don't have any complaints with this mouse at all.

u/Alrik · 1 pointr/gaming

You can grab the PS3 Navigation controller from Amazon for $17.50. (There's also a knock-off version for $7, but I've heard rumors of unofficial controllers having trouble with SCP-DS3.)

Using a PS3 controller with the PC is a bit tricky -- some games recognize it, no problem, others don't, or only recognize half the inputs. To get around that, I use SPC-DS3. (It emulates the PS3 controller as a 360 one, and I've found it to be really easy to use, without all the weirdness of Motion-in-Joy.) You can use it wired with a standard USB cable, or wireless if you're willing to dedicate a Bluetooth dongle to controllers (most dongles work, I think, but I use this ioGear -- although, mine is the older version -- and have been pretty happy with it.)

I also use JoyToKey, which allows me to map controller buttons as keyboard (and mouse) input (so, I can use a thumbstick for WASD).

My mouse is a Logitech G602, which is currently $62 at Amazon. There are plenty of other mice that you could pick, but I like the G602 because (A) it's wireless; (B) it lasts about 3 months on just two AA batteries; and (C) it's the right size/shape and has the right number of buttons for my hand. Find whatever one works best for you.

One last thing about this combo: most FPS games that I play tend to use WASD for movement, Shift/Control/Space for running/crouching/jumping, and then Q, E, R, F, and X for various actions that you need to be quick about. That means you need 8 extra buttons between your joystick and mouse. The Navigation controller has 9 extra buttons, but you have to press seven of them with your thumb. I don't like to take my thumb off the stick and stop moving every time I need to reload, melee attack, throw a grenade, etc., so you're probably going to want at least 3 or 4 programmable buttons on the mouse. (Honestly, I virtually never change the DPI and I almost always use the scroll wheel to change weapons, so in an FPS I only really use 3 buttons, but in an MMO I use them all.)

Before that, MF68 comes in black: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-GATERON-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E57PUNA

For 65%, The cheapest is probably Magicforce 68 with outemu switches. I would spend the extra for Gaterons, though ^.
The best is the Clueboard or FC660C (Topre switch). Incredibly high quality board at a hefty price. The best for the bang would probably be the TADA68 for $100 or maybe the Leopold FC660M.

For 80 percent, I can't say what the best is, but the cheapest go for $35. The best bang for the buck (or at least the most recommended) are the Ducky One TKL w/PBT keycaps and the Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro S w/PBT keycaps.

From the PS4 I think he wanted one of the newer Kingdom Hearts games. This or this. Also you just look up Arduino or rasperry pi kits and there's usually some game kind of deal.
Also here's some PS4 stuff. 1 or 2. If you do two check the sellers for best ratings and stuff. But 1 seems the way to go because of the game. Also if you do just end up getting him a PS4 no game get the kid kingdom hearts remaster (not the 2.8).
But if you go aruino go with this and this and this. Those three are cheaper than the PS4 and he'll learn more.
Also all this is from the perspective of a guy who's had to buy his own games and stuff.

I’d like to think I would, but I don’t really want to bother with installing homebrew software on my 3DS.

I have a sludge wave Gengar, but thanks. :)

As for me cloning, you should grab one of these for yourself. They’re awesome.

In short, you need one of these. https://www.amazon.com/Super-Smash-GameCube-Adapter-Wii-U/dp/B00L3LQ1FI

There will be 3rd party versions but I've heard stories that some don't always work out on Switch but regardless you do need the Adapter that was designed generally for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. However, along the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there will be a Switch model of the Adapter being released along side either separate or bundled with the game.

That looks like exactly what I want. Looks like I can only get Gaterons with the backlit variant though (which is an extra $20). The non-backlit one looks like it has OUTEMU switches. Do you think I'd notice a big difference there? The video reviews make it seem like the OUTEMU brown switches are quieter than the Gaterons too which is another positive for me

The chances of a website with a high profile product such as the switch is likely and possible of crashing, although in cases like those, it's always great to have the app installed onto your phone. I've been able to preorder items with high demand, like the switch through the app, and also by monitoring its offer listings on Amazon, instead of the direct URL. Typically the item will appear first on the offer listing page, and then it'll appear on the direct URL to the product page. Sticks like this or this are definitely "not good enough". If you read the associated reviews and they speak positively it is almost always in context of "budget" and "easily modded".

If you've never played on generic parts vs. good ones you'd be surprised how big the difference is. It isn't just some weird snake oil elitism.

I too just bought a switch the other day (finally found one).

Here is what I have bought (so far):

[A Stand]
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZAYH58/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) needed? Maybe not, but I won't always have my screen with me to tote around.

Charge grip The grip that currently comes with the switch does not charge. I am ok with the switch's controllers, but do not like the idea of sliding it down on the screen every time they needed charged. I can't see me getting a "pro controller" but that is an option.

[This cable] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JJB3DB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I played all day Sunday, and noticed the switch was over heating. This cable allows for the switch not need to dock. Needed? No, but teaming this up with the stand and this means I should not have over heating issues.

And then I got these grips because the match my controllers, and I wanted that "back" hump for better grip.

Why grips and charge grip? Well I modded the charge grip already, are removed the plastic built-around.

I also bought a screen protector, the tampered glass one, for the screen, but I got that at a store.

To many case options out there, I got lucky a found a Zelda BotW special edition when they came out, so I have that. As for mobile charging, no help there.

It's a G29 but I have pulled the pedals out from their casing and made my own retractable pedal box. It works just the same. There is also a similar G920, the G29 works with PC and PS3/4 while the G920 works with PC and Xbox one.

I would say that a wheel adds a great deal of immersion to racing, there are cheaper options but I upgraded pretty much immediately because the paddles on the cheaper wheels are rubbish. They are force feedback so you can feel the car moving through the wheel.

My wheel is barely considered entry level, in fact hardcore enthusiasts will not accept anything less than a Thrustmaster T300 which is out of my price range.

Can anyone speak for the quality of HORI Switch HORIPAD controllers for PC gaming on Steam?

https://www.amazon.ca/Nintendo-Switch-HORIPAD-Wired-Controller/dp/B01NAUATSM

I fell in love with the Switch pro controller after going to a friend's house because of it's buttery smoothness. However, spending $80 Canadian loonies on a controller with so many features I don't need seems wasteful. I'm currently on an XBOX360 wired controller that works fine, but the shoulder and trigger buttons seem a bit too plastic-y for me nowadays.

I've read the reviews and I've done a search and found this thread, but there were no responses to it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've got a gaming PC and I mostly use an XBOX One controller. I'm about to get a gaming laptop (really it's mostly for school and work, but I will be gaming on the go quite a bit), and I hate track pads. So I decided instead of buying some cheap-o general purpose wireless mouse, I'd buy some cheap-o gaming intended mouse. I have not yet decided if I should go wired or wireless.

I'm basically looking for cheap, pretty good, and black or black/red to match the laptop, all without looking like a baby Transformer. Looking in the <$30 range. I'll upgrade to a $50+ later if I feel like I get a lot of use out of it.

Here's what I've narrowed my options down to:

I got this one for my son, and it's pretty good value for the price. The sound is good, the virtual surrounds works well and it fits my giant head comfortably.

The only downside I see is that the microphone is on a stiff plastic arm and cannot be placed very close to your mouth.

u/dolopodog · 1 pointr/3dshacks

That's where I got mine, but you're right it looks like they took it off the shelves. You can get it easily through an online retailer like Amazon as well.

I have the collective minds headset and I love it.

If you have the Move controllers, definitely consider picking it up. I think it's totally worth it. Looks beautiful and keeps everything charged well. Quality plastic build.

I have the Redragon Mammoth, and I highly recommend it for people looking to spend less than $30 on a mouse. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GU4F4OM/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_gYqywbRNXFGEC

The mouse is perfect for wider hands, it has 5 different profiles you can switch between, and you can set up 5 or 6 preset DPI settings for as well as different keybindings for each profile... DPI goes up to 16,400, though I'll probably never use it that high. The mouse has a "three click macro button" on the upper left hand side of the left mouse button, and it has three thumb buttons.

I've had this mouse for almost a year now and it's easily surpassed my expectations. I'll never go back to an expensive Razer or Logitech mouse.

I think for now, people shouldn't be worried. Amazon shipping is pretty solid. If you're worried about your shipments not getting sent out yet, it might be because you're in an area closer to a fulfillment center, where they can afford to hold off on your shipment, and instead focus on getting out the packages that are farther away. I wouldn't even worry if by midnight tonight they're not shipped yet. (An example: I recently ordered something for next day shipment. I live in the Los Angeles area and we have a fulfillment center in a city over. The package didn't actually ship out until 1:30PM and made it to me by the 9PM deadline (only 8 hours!))

Also, it also seems like all Vlad did was look up the Adapter on the actual Amazon.com website (not like any employee backend or something-- he says, "I looked on the site..."), where it is indeed out of stock. BUT It's probably listed as out of stock because they've all been pre-ordered (I mean, it's not like they were giving them out before release day, so how could they otherwise run out? The other possibility is that they never had them at all... which is pretty unlikely). I'd say if you got your preorder in before they went out of stock, you're probably fine.

I just wanted to say this before people cancel their orders when it might not be necessary to. I'm ready to eat crow if wrong, but yeah. Relax.

MMFFF. GET A 3DS. I JUST GOT ONE AND NOW I WANT EVERYONE TO GET ONE. (so i can feel closer to you shhhhh)

Maybe it's blasphemy, but do cheap ebay and craigslist first, hahaha. I got mine new, in box from ebay for about 100 bucks. IT'S SUPPOSED TO COME TODAY IN THE MAIL YEEEE.

Hahaha, I don't even have any games yet, so additionally you should get this for the both of us. Or really any game. I'm so excited.

OH and "deputydawg". I'm guessing you had watermelon for breakfast.

Also sorry you're feeling stressed. I throw my cyber affections at you.
