You mentioned he has issues with his speech. Is he able to communicate his needs/wants with you in any way? Some of his behavior could be out of frustration. Once my son learned the sign for "Help" his behavior improved greatly, because he was able to tell us he had a need. It's still the only sign he'll use with any consistency, but it's something...
When playing outside isn't an option, maybe a dedicated place indoors could help. We have a pop up tent that our son can go to when he's overwhelmed and needs to be alone. You may want to try to redirect his energy toward safe and fun rough housing on a bed or couch cushions. He could just be seeking stimulation, and not know how to get it.
There dont seem to be that many weapons on Amazon, but this will surely allow me to win the apocalypse,
i would tag /u/Morthy because according to his/her's flair is a Lord of Underpants which is always useful and /u/tragopanic is known to be quick, and i would hope that applies to being quick on the trigger on Nerf.
In order to answer part of what you wrote in the first paragraph, the pool is 90 inches in diameter at the outer edge. It does not give the interior diameter, but we can get a rough estimate by looking at the cylinders that make up the wall. Three cylinders add up to 20 inches, so each cylinder is roughly 7 inches in diameter, which makes the interior diameter of the pool 76 inches (radius = 38 inches).
Calculate the volume:
38^2 pi 20 = 90,729 in^3 = 392 gallons.
38^2 pi 14.5 = 65,779 in^3 = 284 gallons
I get a different number when calculating for the ball size. You use a radius of 1.08 inches. I calculate 5 cm /2 = 2.5 cm radius = 0.98 inch diameter. I also would like to point out that a 5 cm ball is smaller than the balls in a commercial ball pit (think Chuck E Cheeses). Standard ball pit balls would probably be more like 3 inches in diameter, but that's a rough guess from memory. I don't have anything to measure.
Using the packing density of 0.64 you give from XKCD, we get the following:
5cm balls: 0.98^2 Pi 4/3 = 4.0 cubic inches
65,779 in^3 0.64 / 4.0 in^3 = 10,525 balls
3in balls: 1.5^2 Pi 4/3 = 9.4 cubic inches
65,779 in^3 0.64 / 9.4 in^3 = 4,479 balls
Here are a couple of sources for 3 inch balls:
26 cents per ball
http://www.amazon.com/150-Large-Crush-Proof-Ball-Balls/dp/B000VX2PO0/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1449891804&sr=1-3&keywords=3+inch+ball+pit+balls
21.31 cents per ball
http://www.amazon.com/Pack-Crush-Proof-Ball-Balls/dp/B000NNM41C/ref=sr_1_6?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1449891804&sr=1-6&keywords=3+inch+ball+pit+balls
That's still super expensive (4,479 0.2131 = $954.47) and costs more than the 5 cm balls (10,525 0.082 = $863.00), though the 5 cm balls may not give the same ball pit experience you remember as a kid. Getting a smaller pool would definitely make it more affordable.
Edit: You could probably get by with significantly fewer balls depending on the age of your kids. Here is a small ball pit without balls, but take a look at the dimensions and number of balls in the first review.

Neat contest... Happy belated bday! I need to find more fun cheap items for my WL but this will have to do for now. It's way more fun to give, but I do like a good contest. womb liberation!
/u/Mistr_MADness has the right of it. For under half price you can get the basic blaster.
Unless you're sub 5' tall, the stock that comes with the full price version isn't going to function well as a stock. The worker one he recommended is fantastic, I have the black version.
As for how well that blaster stacks up, it's going to depend on your intention. Are you just plinking around the house? This'll be great at that. Are you planning on going to HvZ or some kind of Nerf war? if so, you're either going to want to invest in some spare magazines or look at a turreted blaster, as those are easy to reload on the run.
The recon has excellent potential for modding though! If you happen to come across an original barrel extension you can convert the pistol into a pump-grip rifle, which makes it far easier to prime after you mod it for maximum power!
The Longstrike? Was it a thrift item?
If you're not planning on modding it, you're gonna have a bad time. The Longstrike has a pretty bad reputation around here.
Since you're kinda new, I'd strongly recommend you get this blaster. Again pricing varies, so the waiting game is the best way to go.
Here's another excellent beginner's blaster, they sell for $20 at Target, but this Amazon link is for convenience. I'd also check out eBay.
Around here, we really like this blaster..
Maybe those links will also help you.
Edit: Did I mention the Stryfe comes with a 6 dart clip? So that would have you covered on multiple levels if you're interested. As others have said, 12, 18, 25, and 35 clips/drums also work with your blaster. So anything you can find that says "clip" or "drum" is okay to use as long as it uses darts. Disc clips are not compatible with this blaster, nor are disc drums.
My favorite site to go to for gift lists seems to be down, but we used gift cards from family/friends to get some things for my toddler from it. If you have an idea what your friend's kid has already, maybe some of these will work:
Board books are also always welcome. Look for Dr. Seuss or other classic titles that you might've enjoyed as a kid (if you remember what you liked).
When you buy darts, I highly recommend buying something other than official nerf brand. they're expensive and inaccurate when compared with others.

these are the best if you care about respecting nerf's intellectual property: (200 for $13)

sadly there aren't any good third party vortex discs available to my knowledge.

also, excellent haul. that's quite a steal.
Pick your favorite retail store. See if they'll beat this price. Otherwise you'd do best going by Amazon.
If you want more legit, your best bet will be here. Yes, that says 75 darts. You won't get any packages larger than that currently, without resorting to China's packs of 200 at at time.

same thing, but cheaper and Cars
We got Tinynurse skates that go over the shoes, PlayDoh is a big hit (even if I'm not a fan), trying to think...she's rough and not "girly", build a bear was a huge hit with her, she loves her zoomer zuppie, hugging Elmo (I'm scanning her toys).
When mine was that age, a foam play mat and a rattle ball were a huge hit.
Over the next few months, musical toys (especially Infantino Go Gaga’s DJ Panda), grapefruit sized inflatable balls), and skip hop’s follow bee were huge hits.
As she became more mobile, pillows or any crawling obstacles were fun. Bubble machine, a ball pit, and wood blocks also were a lot of fun.
Here are some products we loved:

I think a lot of consumers have smartened up. Lately there really is no true deals for black Friday. I watched the price of multiple gifts I purchased two weeks ago for family climb before Black Friday, then "discounted" to higher than what I paid for them.
Paid $30 for these, now 40
Paid $17, now $25
And the same is for dozens of things I've purchased from different places over the last month. We saw many show up at a "deep discount" still 10-15% higher than what we paid. Retailers stopped giving big bargains and started giving the illusion of discounts. Articles like this (sorry for mobile version) show how much things aren't really on sale anymore.
Black Friday was just an industry term for when businesses started making money, then became a big thing filled with free stuff (after rebates) and cheap things to get you in the store. Now retailers cut back on that because people show up to shop regardless. It used to be just a general busy shopping day. How it's trying to be its own holiday.
Someone suggested on another forum to use a pool noodle on the boom arm to keep from getting dents in the headphone cushions. Seems pretty smart, as I had thought about the long-term integrity of the headphones hanging like this.
http://www.amazon.com/Noodle-Style-Color-Exact-Dimensions/dp/B0029XD0CG
Problem solved.
It's from third party sellers but you can find some good sellers with 100% positive and that have the stock and drum mag. [Here] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004LKIJBW/ref=dp_olp_collectible?ie=UTF8&condition=collectible) for the Alpha Trooper, and [Here] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000ETQR3Q/ref=dp_olp_collectible?ie=UTF8&condition=collectible) for the Longshot I mentioned, they probably won't come with scope (But that can be bought separately)
An elephant weighs about 3-6.5 tons. which at the high end is roughly 5,900 kilograms
A "jumbo" pool noodle is a 55" long by 3.5" diameter cylinder; converting to centimeters is 139.7 cm x 8.89 cm, solving for volume of a cylinder (V= pi * r^2 * h) ~= 9046.03 cm^3
1 cubic centimeter of volume will support 1 gram of mass, so each of those noodles will support about 9.04 kilograms of mass, minus the weight of the pool noodle (1.6 ounces, or about 45 grams, as it turns out), so we can round down and say that each pool noodle will hold up exactly 9 kilos of elephant.
5,900 / 9 is going to leave us at about 650-ish noodles needed before I punch numbers into a calculator, and indeed the number I get is 655.55555.... so round up and make it a nice even 666 noodles to hold up that elephant comfortably.
At the low end, an Asian elephant can be as small as about 3500kg and thus would need roughly 400-ish noodles; plugging those numbers in, 3500/9 = 388.888.... so rounding up, about 400.
The nerf rebelle 4victory is actually a great choice. Smaller than the hammershot and more reliable. It is as fast and as easy to load as the triad and can be primed with one hand.
I have some Airzookas (Amazon link) that are fun. My dogs have wised up, though, and run when they see them.
I have a antique quack “medical” device that looks like an innocent wood box, only when you touch the metal ends while the handle is cranked, it gives you a mild electrocution (like a static charge).
Thanks to BL reader Matthew for the tip. It looks like Hasbro is trying to get these off of shelves...
How about a water table? My daughter loved the Little Tikes Spiralin' Seas one. I'll try to link to it, but I'm on my phone, so not sure if it'll work. https://www.amazon.com/Little-Tikes-Spiralin-Waterpark-Table/dp/B004INDQWY
If you're looking for a "motorized" ride-on toy that's not so pricey, my kids love this one. It's about $50 at Walmart. https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Disney-Push-Button-Acceleration-Traction/dp/B01FUXZ28Q.

For the cheapest darts i could find
Does it have to be from Amazon? A few people here recommend the dart zone magnum - but Amazon's price is a little above your budget. Target has it for $20 though.
The Magnum's a good pick because it shoots a little harder than most stock Nerf blasters, has a 40 round capacity, and doesn't require you to invest in extra magazines for quick reloads. You can just carry spare darts on you and reload on the fly.
If it's Amazon only, I'd go for the Flipfury or maybe the Stratobow if you're into archery/don't mind the lack of a trigger
The solution is simple, really.
I have 0 affiliation with this product but I saw it a few weeks ago. It helps critters in pools get to safety. https://www.amazon.com/Swimline-70200SL-FrogLog-Critter-Saving/dp/B004UHY2TY

You can do whatever you want, I saw someone bring a gatling nerfgun. The guys that brought me had arsenals in boxes, looking like rambo with ammo bandoliers, shotguns, full autos, (sock) grenades... and by the end of the week, they were among the few living. Come prepared, yall, especially in later days when there’s more zombies.
There is this device as well as something called a critter skimmer that could also help in the future :) https://www.amazon.com/Swimline-70200SL-FrogLog-Critter-Saving/dp/B004UHY2TY
It's a Nerf N-Strike Vulcan EBF-25 Dart Blaster. With that many names, it has to be awesome!
Nerf has a lot of cool-looking guns now, the whole N-Strike line is way cooler than the pump-action (or similar manually-cycled) guns I played with.
I've had one for about two years and it works well enough. I've only pulled a few frogs and lizards out since adding it. They aren't perfect but in my case it works. Before I got it carcass removal was a daily occurrence and reaching in for the skimmer basket was like a scene from an Indiana Jones movie.

Definitely. I got my nephew a Nerf N-Strike Longshot for Christmas this year. It was almost bigger than he was. He loved it. My sister, not so much.
Are you letting the motors spin up all the way before firing?
Generally the people that can fire their Stryfes very quickly have done modifications to give the blaster a lot more torque, things like motor swaps and voltage mods.. those things don't really belong in a 4 year old's blaster. :P Seconding what /u/foam_data was saying, you should take out that skirt and the unnecessary locks.
If that doesn't sound like something you want to do, you could swap to less complicated blasters- springers like the Roughcut, or Triad would be great for a 4 y/o. There are decent non-Nerf offerings, as well.
> "...now we're out $30 a month for hosting him."
To make it more impressive, that's about 113 Nerf N-Strike Elite Darts a month, or 6 Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega Dart Refill Packs if you valued range over volume.
Alternatively you could upgrade two Hailfires to a full 144 shot capacity a month.
You can get fairly large children's ball pits (minus the balls) that fold into a tiny square like cheap laundry hampers when you want to put it away
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00XPLB35M/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1449605420&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=kids+ball+pit&dpPl=1&dpID=51Bz8hpUGsL&ref=plSrch This is the one I have. I don't think beardies can get a good grip on the smooth plastic sheets, but with enough determination they might be able to rip hole into it after trying for a while.
Well if that is the case then the diameter would be 7.639 feet, or about 7 feet 8 inches, making that guy seem short again.
EDIT: If you scroll down here https://www.amazon.com/Behemoth-Inflatable-12-Foot-Sol-Coastal/dp/B01AYKN476
You see that you are technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.
We have this we ended up buying extra balls but its been a fun toy! Even without the extra balls!
There's already a nerf gun that looks like it was made to be a replica of Reaper's Hellfire Shotguns.
Has the exact same number of shots before it's empty, too!
If I ever do a Reaper cosplay, it'll include like 20 of these, all painted black. Aww yeah.

Lastly, you will need enough blasters for at least 3v3.
Decide what you want to supply for that.
The lowest price I know possible is two packs of tri-fires.
http://www.target.com/p/dart-zone-174-tri-fire-blasters-3-pack/-/A-50560051
Along with some keyrings, because the priming handle on those blasters is difficult.

Actual triads are good at twice that price.
https://www.amazon.com/Nerf-N-Strike-Elite-Triad-Blaster/dp/B009T45X82
I also find it's really handy to have a ziploc bag with two pieces of ductape on one side, then cut belt loops in the bag. (And supply some rough string for people without belts).
Ebay often has a supply of inexpensive darts to use.

There are these cool critter-saving things you can get called a FrogLog. It’s a little ramp that goes into the pool and gives animals that fell in a safe way back out.
Sorry to burst your beach ball but a 12' beach ball doesnt weigh 12 lbs. I'm assuming you saw this "12 ft beach ball" on amazon since in the specs it says it weighs 12.9 lbs. After looking at the reviews it seems like that ball actually has a 7-8 ft diameter, and the 12 ft mentioned is really just half the circumference.
The description even says 12 ft measured from pole to pole and theres a pic showing how it was measured.
Okay, padawan.

For $30, you can buy some pretty good options for one, but not for two. You’d be limited to something like two Strongarms . If you can go up to $40, you can get two Superdrums .
We have the same for my two year old, except for the cuddle pillow, couldn't find one of those.
I also got him a Thomas playhut for his 2nd birthday, his little heart just melted when he woke up and saw up. All he could say was a dreamy sort of "Thomas........"

omg...I play this game too often to NOT have one. Literally looking online right now for a mini one that can fit in the box
Edit: Literally just bought This nerf gun, I'll test it out in 2 days to see how it fits in the box. I would actually make my first box insert ever if I need to to make this work.
Amazon Price < As you can see they are going for 200$ on amazon right now. And they aren't on any shelves around here, or I haven't heard anything on American Nerf forums. You could be able to make some money by buying Longshots and selling them to Americans. That is really interesting that you still have old stuff there.
So here’s the amazon listing check it out
Looks like it is measuring around the circumference - which in my opinion makes “pole to pole” misleading....
I've been thinking about this for a little now and this is probably how I'd approach it:
I'd get a single piece of pipe however tall you want it. The first types that come to mind are galvanized fence posts, galvanized conduit or even metal plumbing pipes. I would then use something like a 5 gallon bucket filled with cement and place the pipe in the center of it so it could cure it set up. Kind like this but as tall as you'd want it. Then I would grab something similar to this that would become the mount for each target. I would use a thumb screw and a nut through the opening so you could slide them up and down as you wish. Then grab some sort of tubing or pipe to slide over the square ends. I would make these sections about 1/4-1/3 of the length of each target then slide something like a pool noodle or pipe insulation the remaining 3/4-2/3 to be the actual contact area. It makes sense in my head so hopefully this can help.
*Here's a crappy drawing of what's in my head - http://imgur.com/RowlM0V
Well... yea.
Bullets can be cheap lead a penny worth of brass and some cheap primer.
Nerfs have to go through more regulations because kids and are made of more expensive foam.
and by the way its about $0.26 cents a round that you can reuse and a bullet in .45ACP cost about the same, although there are cheaper bullets like 22LR or 9MM or even some .40
https://www.amazon.com/Nerf-N-Strike-Elite-Strongarm-Blaster/dp/B00DW1JT5G

You'll probably want to get some suction darts too

Nerf guns are badass now. Back in the day, the coolest nerf weapon you could get was the bow and arrow
yes, why? because this http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-61983-Nerf-N-Strike-Longshot/dp/B000ETQR3Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1345838928&sr=8-3&keywords=nerf+longshot

Strongarm- super maverick
Retaliator- Elite recon, shoots hardest out of all stock springers.
Finest full auto ever made incredible when modded, fair as a stocker.
Good alternative primary if you are not left handed
ZS Longshot, expensive
the 30 pack is about $ 10.00, and thats a better deal.
Use a bucket instead, with a slight taper so the bottom diameter is a bit smaller than the top.
Cut a hole in the bottom of the bucket about an inch smaller in diameter than the bottom of the bucket. Make sure to leave about an inch of the bottom intact around the hole.
Cover the top of the bucket with plastic sheeting, about as thick as a zip top bag. Fix rubberbands or small bungee cords from the sides of the bucket to the middle of the plastic sheeting.
Fire by pulling back on the bungees and letting them go. This snaps the plastic sheeting down, basically doing the same thing as whacking the sides of the box.
It's a larger version of one of these

cheapest way would be to buy some of these and a set of these
cut the foam to the width of your cars roof, then lay your yak upside down on top of them, run one strap over the front just behind your windshield and one over the back just in front of your rear window... when you tighten them they do not need to be so tight that it deforms the shape of your hull, just tight enough to keep it from sliding off... it would also be a good idea to tie a chord from the front of the kayak to your front bumper and also one from the rear of the kayak to your rear bumper

That's a pretty good solution honestly. Because of how the props are (um.. heavy and plastic lol), I've been looking into nerf options, and I'll be honest, I'm a lazy shit and I already made the guns once, they were a pain in the ass. I don't really want to do them again :/
These nerf guns would be pretty dope and I wouldn't give a shit if I threw them around or lost them, or whatever at a con. I could do way less work on a pair of these then scratch building another pair of reaper guns. (eventually I'll do it. gotta have the real full set. just not this month! lol)

Camo-netting makes great shade and lets most of the wind blow through, so you're much less likely to suffer grommet failure and flapping tarp.
Attach it to something very solid on your vehicle and use something to protect your vehicle's finish if the ropes touch it (or might touch it). Some of the guys in our camp wrap the ropes in pool noodles for that reason.

Who pays this much for a nerf gun?
cheapest way? make your own makeshift softracks for cheap. go to walmart, or kmart, or wherever and get a pool noodle and a couple of racheting tie downs. cut the pool noodle in half, and put the two pieces in between the board and your roof. put the tie-downs over the board and through the passenger compartment and cinch them down.
50 .22LR or 30 Nerf darts? Same price. Although, it's possible to find some .22 rounds for a lower price. In my experience, knock-off darts don't work well if at all.
I just read that the retaliator shoots 75 ft:

That little white one on the left is OP AF. Seriously, if anyone reads this and needs a cheap nerf gun for their kids, that's the one. Three bullet load, a quick pull to charge it..... it has a surprising amount of power. I got two of them for my daughters last Christmas and my brother and I (both 30 plus) had a 3 hour war while my 90 year old grandpa casually dodged bullets on the couch.
We got them a bow this year, and it works surprisingly well... but the quick re-load of that little white gun still trumps all.
Here... I don't work for nerf, but I will plug a solid product.
As someone who lives in the UK, I don't enjoy the same ironclad protections that prevent the 3 letter agencies from abusing national secruity letters to spy on US citizens.
All the patriotic bullshit aside, I believe Russia would leverage/extort a private company in their jurisdiction if they thought the end result was in their national interest. I also believe the US would do exactly the same.
But I seriously doubt that the security services of either country would target a typical SMB. Lets say the American company who manufactures pool noodles uses Kaspersky. The risk of the FSK using Kaspersky to compromise their network is close to 0.
For "normal" companies, Kaspersky is a solid AV choice...you could do a lot worse. It's decent at stopping malware threats in the real world and it's central management is not horrible. That's better than most AV solutions.
If you are in that super rare breed of company that'd be an interest to a foreign nation state, then sure following this DoD advice totally makes sense.
Are your plants in bloom? I find that bees get a little drunk when they've been sucking down pollen. I put a froglog in my pool and at least it gives anything that falls in a fighting chance. Sometimes bees can even get to it if I don't scoop them out in time, which I also do when it's blooming time.
I don't think you understand how much of a steal this is. There's the two Recons going for $20 used and new for almost $100, the longshot going for $100-200 easy, the Vulcan going for way too much, two $15 Mavericks, a $25 rampage, plus a whole lot more. I mean, it's easily over $200 worth of guns, especially with that longshot. The longshot uses a different mechanism for firing the darts that can be better modified than pretty much any other nerf gun out there. Stock, it's on par with most guns, but modded it can be hitting some insane ranges. Since it's no longer in production, nor is any gun with the same mechanism, it's worth a pretty penny.
Edit: I'm wrong on the plunger system.
If you've got no boat, go to the bridge at Woodland while the tide is either going in or out- not slack tide. You can get about a 1/4 bushel in a couple hours with 15 or 20 pots. I would suggest going early though as it gets crowded sometimes. Once the tide is slack, you have to wait. Poor results...
If you have a boat, and MD isn't an option, the creeks around Woodland are good, closer to the river. Try and go to about 7 feet of water (if you can) in this nasty ass heat. The crabs will be lower because there's a good amount of dissolved oxygen the colder the water gets and also because they won't be in water that's too warm. The Appoquinimink is good too.
One thing you need to know if you're in a boat though is that your floats need to be as small as possible. Delaware River tributaries have a NASTY tidal flow compared to MD, and if you have milk bottles for floats, it will pull trap doors shut or drag nets. The cheapest thing to do is to go to Walmart or the dollar store and buy noodle floats. Then cut them down to like 6 inch sections to use as floats. It's ridiculously cheap compared to using store bought floats, they last a long time, and you have less drag.
Happy hunting, and do try and post your results.
