GET THEM ALL!!!! Just kidding ^^^^^but ^^^^^not ^^^^^really

If you are interested in the story I would recommend getting Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary first in order to get an idea of what Halo is about. It is basically the first Halo game, Halo: Combat Evolved, but remastered for the Xbox 360 on its 10 year anniversary. It has the entire first game's campaign and a multiplayer portion using the engine from Halo: Reach (we'll get to that in a moment).

If you are still interested in the story, go for Halo 2 next. It is for the original Xbox, but is also compatible with the 360 so you can play the campaign. It no longer has online multiplayer, though, so it is only good for local custom games and the campaign.

If you purchased Halo 2 you are probably interested enough in the Halo universe to continue the Master Chief's story. The next game will be Halo 3. Halo 3 is a great game and still has online multiplayer, though it is fairly sparse right now.

Note: Halo 3 will become available for free download on July 1st if you have Xbox Live Gold.

Halo 4 is the next game in line that follows the story of the Master Chief, however, there are two other games that were released between them.

Halo 3:ODST is one of these two games. It takes place during the events of Halo 2, but you play as a normal soldier rather than the Master Chief who is a Spartan. Spartans are basically supersoldiers. Normal humans who were augmented to be faster, stronger, and smarter than normal people. It is a fun game and comes with the Halo 3: ODST campaign and a second disc that contains all the multiplayer maps for Halo 3 which allows you to play Halo 3 online.

The other game is Reach. In Halo: Reach you play as a Spartan supersoldier, but not the Master Chief. This game takes places chronologically before the first Halo game, Halo: CE, but was released in 2010. It still has a decent multiplayer population, but I am not sure if is more than Halo 4.

The final game is Halo 4, the newest in the series. It follows the story of the Master Chief after Halo 3, and I believe it has the most populated multiplayer as of right now. Though, the numbers are still fairly low compared to other shooter games out there. This will be the game you will want if you are only interested in online play.

----

Too Long Didn't Read

If you are interested in campaign and storyline go for:

  • Halo: CEA

  • Halo 2

  • Halo 3

  • Halo 4

  • Halo 3: ODST ^*

  • Halo: Reach ^

    ^
Play these any time you want after Halo 3.

If you are only interested in playing online multiplayer go for:

  • Halo 4

  • Halo: Reach

  • Halo 3 (which will be free on July 1st!)

I would recommend Halo 4 over Reach, hopefully someone will be better informed on multiplayer populations than I am.

    ----

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! :D

The original Xbox, after you mod it. I know modding it is work that most people wouldn't bother with, but for those who did, it becomes a really powerful (yet inexpensive) machine:

  • awesome media center with no format restrictions (can play from network share, disc, or hard drive)

  • up to 4-player emulation of any console up through the N64

  • play your library of Xbox games from the hard drive

  • Dolby Digital Live encoding (Toslink) and HD video output (component)

  • tons of interesting homebrew applications

I keep a bunch of TV shows and movies on my Mac's 1TB HDD, and I can easily stream them over the network using XBMC to watch them on my HDTV. I know the Xbox 360 and PS3 have some media center support, but they tend to be limited to a few formats and require special software on the PC. XBMC supports just about every format out there, and can play them from many different types of network shares (Windows SMB, FTP, etc).

I have a bunch of emulators, like SNES9X, ZSNES, DGen, and Project64. I know there are also NES and GameBoy Color emulators out there. We have a blast playing multi-player SNES games like NBA Jam and Super Baseball 2020 and N64 games like Mario Kart 64. I can also play my favorite SNES RPGs and Genesis Sonic games to satisfy my nostalgia.

With the (now very cheap) Xbox DVD kit, I can use my Harmony to control the media center. I also added a secondary IR receiver capable of handling power and eject signals, so the Xbox turns on and off with the appropriate activity.

First of all, before anything else, the single most important thing to take care of is to identify which revision your Xbox is. If it is not a v1.6/v1.6b, you MUST open it and remove the clock capacitor IMMEDIATELY! If you don't, it will destroy the motherboard.

Now, onto your questions:

    1. It will not affect the BIOS, but it does install new files to the HDD. Mainly, the new dashboard.
    1. Yes. In fact, it is incredibly important that you do so because the DVD drives are very, very old and are failing. Try to preserve it by using it as little as possible and play everything from the HDD instead.
    1. Modded or not, you can always swap it with another Xbox drive, but when it comes to using PC DVD drives, it's generally not possible, though there are some units that can be modified to work with the Xbox. But like I said, generally speaking, no, it has to be another Xbox drive.
    1. Never seen one, but you can easily use a flash drive with the Xbox via a USB to Xbox adapter. The Xbox can't work with any flash drives that are over 4GB and the vast majority of them won't work at all. This one is confirmed to work though.
    1. There are no drawbacks and the benefits are many. You can run homebrew applications, you can rip games to the HDD and can upgrade the HDD to up to 2TB, you can get all of the old Xbox Live DLC, you can mod games, you can play emulators, the region lock will be disabled so that you can play import games, you can null the EEPROM's HDD key, making it easier to save the Xbox if something ever happens to the HDD, etc., etc.
    1. It's basically impossible for a softmod installation to go wrong. You have to be intentionally trying really hard to screw it up in order for it to screw up. You can potentially mess it up afterwards though, if you don't know what you're doing, but that's part of why nulling the EEPROM is a very good idea, as it will make it easier to fix the problem. Once the softmod is installed though, yes you can extract all of your game saves for safe keeping on your PC, or wherever else you'd want to keep them.

Make sure you softmod with JCRocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool though. Stay away from all the older softmods that you'll see being used in YouTube tutorials and the like. This one has a way more straightforward installation procedure and is much better overall. Plus it has a much cleaner look and is still regularly updated. Once you have installed this softmod, run the included NKpatcher Settings application and null your EEPROM's HDD key.

If your Xbox is a 1.0-1.5, you should also upgrade to a hardmod, by doing a TSOP flash, which will replace the original BIOS with a much better one, making the Xbox even better than it is with just a softmod.

Splinter Cell would have to be one of my favorite games that I could never get tired of. More so because it was something that my dad and I could do together whether he play, I play, he watch, I watch, etc. It was just a great time sitting with my dad and talking strats on the best way to be stealthy.

I think my best memory of playing this game was my dad was sitting watching me start the game. We were going through the controls, trying to figure out how to be sneaky and it finally let us try it on our own. My dad blurted out 'Is that a rock? Can you hit him with it?' and it sparked curiosity so bad that I HAD to try it. I hid in the bushes and arched the rock and when it made contact the guy fell like a sack of potatoes. My dad and I burst out laughing and we were in stitches for a good 5 minutes.

Thanks for the contest!

The Mayflash F300 is super cheap and really durable and comes with great parts- nothing beats this within that price range and many people start off w/ the F300 due to these reasons; it's an overall great stick and has an amazing price.

The F300 has a newer version though which is the F500 it's about $30 more expensive, but the case itself is a bit bigger so it sits on the lap easier(also better for people with bigger hands) and has some metal plates on the top and bottom which means more durability and just feels more premium. It also includes more features than the F300 such as: a headphone jack(apple?) and a much easier artwork change option. Hopefully this helps, but you should also watch some YouTube vids about budget fightsticks as theres tons of content about those :)

u/TimmyP7 · 2 pointsr/CloneHero

Clone Hero is guitar-only at the moment. Your best areas are going to be thrift stores like Goodwill, Savers, and the likes, as those are hella cheap there. From there try things like Facebook Marketplace, LetGo, and OfferUp. Ebay is a last resort as it will usually be a bit more pricey there.

USB is a weird thing when it comes to these guitars. For being straight-forward you can go with either an Xplorer or a Rock Band 1 Stratocaster, as both can be wired. Get a breakaway if they don't come with one, then it's plug and play. Next up would be wireless Xbox 360 guitars, like a Les Paul or a GH5 guitar, but you'll need a wireless adapter like this. It's a little pricey, so make sure you have a working guitar before you go this route. Then there's the Wii guitars with the Raphnet adapter, but that's a little overkill for just getting into the game.

I know I just said CH is guitar-only, but if you want to do drums later on (or now with Phase Shift) Xbox wired/wireless drums function the same way, and for some reason PS3 drums are wired USB and are plug-and-play, so there's that to keep in mind as well.

Good luck!

My son is 7, we got him basically the same thing and he absolutely loves it.

  1. Plug it in, set everything up & pre-load the games, there will be updates, etc.. It's the best thing you can do.
  2. Purchase rechargeable batteries, I went with these ( https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07DPNYGST/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and I find them simply amazing (charge them ahead of time, load one into the controller so it's ready to go).
  3. If he does not have a headset I highly recommend you get one for him. This way he can game without you having to listen to the TV blasting and people screaming. Turtle Beach is a decent brand with options is lower price range.
  4. Have a conversation with him about playing with other people on Xbox. This will be a bit of a new word, people say things that might be rude, insulting or just plain inappropriate in voice chat. Prepare him for it, prepare yourself for it.
  5. Consider getting him "Xbox Game Pass", it's a subscription service for games and gives your son access to 100's of games without you having to purchase them. For us it's been a lifesaver. We love this. Costco should have cards for this. The "top tier" version of this service is called "Xbox Game Pas Ultimate" and includes "Xbox Live" and also works on a PC. Incredible value for your money, this is what we ended up getting.
  6. Keep in mind he will need the "Xbox Live" subscription to play multiplayer, as a side note this also gives him free games every few weeks. If you end up getting the "Xbox Game Pas Ultimate" then everything is included in there.

So I got the Mayflash F500: https://www.amazon.ca/Mayflash-F500-Arcade-Android-SWITCH/dp/B00QM7JUMY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3B3PB23S6QYZS&keywords=mayflash+f500&qid=1566163136&s=gateway&sprefix=mayflash+f%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-1

I got 2 orders of keyswitch testers: https://www.amazon.ca/LeaningTech-Mechanical-Keyboard-Transparent-Switches/dp/B074QGY7SN/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1K8DCJF4QBUCQ&keywords=keyswitch+tester&qid=1566163095&s=gateway&sprefix=keyswitch+t%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-2

  1. I popped open the F500 and swapped the buttons I wanted.
  2. I took out the stick and that left a hole in the box.
  3. I then cut the wires connected to the stick and reattached them inside the box.
  4. I hung the wires out the hole and made sure I knew the connections for which direction.
  5. I then took 1 of the acrylic key-switch testers and drilled the center out so the wires could be fed through the key-switch testers without a center and into the key-switch testers that will hold the keys.
  6. I super glued the cut out center key-switch tester to the key-switch testers that will hold the keys.
  7. Then I fed the wires of the stick through both key-switch tester so that the right wires would go to the right keys and then all the wires would feed back into the box.
  8. I soldered the wires to the keys and slotted the keys into the key-switch tester.
  9. I tested out the keys and their functionality before finally super gluing the key-switch tester. I did mine on an angle but you should feel it out first.

This took a couple weeks because I don't own a drill and I didn't want to get one just for this project. So I waited for a friend of mine to lend me his drill. I also bought a super cheap soldering kit on amazon to actually attach the keys. I would recommend looking at YouTube videos to learn how to solder because that was the most complicated part.

So, this was my dream machine I built back in the day. I had it sprayed at an autobody place and went crazy with blue LEDs. It has the 10GB harddrive and the better DVDrom drive (the one that can read CDrs too). I found it in my mom's basement recently after my girlfriend and I bought our own house and I figured it was time to get my old stuff out. I forgot how much work I put into this thing, but all is not right. I have taken it apart and desoldered the clock capacitor but it used to have a X2.6 mod chip that no longer functions. I think the front panel got ripped off. Also it looks like the X2.6 needs a trace resoldered.

Unfortunately I recently was hit with 2nd and 3rd degree burns to my dominant hand and I'm not sure how well I can solder anymore. I think I can fix the X2.6 but the wiring from the X2.6 to the front bank selector might be out of my skill set now.

I have also lost all my games (including mech assault and action replay I used on my friends xboxes).

I have ordered a Pound HDMI adapter and a IDE->SATA adapter

The only piece I can not find is the cable from the x2.6 to the front bank selector so I am stuck with the only disk that was left in the machine, Halo 2. I would love to upgrade the disk and put backups on it. I am not trying to pirate as I weirdly have all the game boxes just lost the CD holder that contained the actual disks!

Any help would be much appreciated. Should I buy a new IDE drive or use one of the many SATA HDD / SSDs I have laying around. I don't have a ton of money but it would be cool to get this up in running and have all three generations working in my new entertainment center!

Thanks!

Dude, you're awesome for doing this! I had [Splinter Cell] (http://www.amazon.com/Tom-Clancys-Splinter-Cell-Xbox/dp/B00006JZQZ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2J66QSVNE6GF9&coliid=I3J18MPKMVJCFY) for the Xbox, and loved it, but sold many of my games for the 360. I would really appreciate it (eligible for Prime - $4). Thanks bro! Scurvy!
Alternatively, if you have an extra spot for Prime, I would be soo happy (cue meme)!

u/PsychicFrostOne · 52 pointsr/xboxone

You may complain with the new ones yes

BUT we all know the original multimedia controller for the original Xbox is the best

👉😎👉

It had soo many buttons

>These are over 10 years old, made for a platform that hasn't been supported for near as many, and have since been updated in a newer and better format.

Good observation! Here's some more games that can fit that description!:

u/JoeHova1 · 2 pointsr/xbox360

I don't know if you bought xbox live yet, but there is a pretty great deal of 1 year of xbox live, a chatpad, a headset (the cheapo wired one that comes with new xbox 360s), and $5 of Microsoft bucks for $67 at Amazon. Even if you find the year of xbox live for $40 and the chatpad for $25 (pretty much the cheapest I've ever seen them), you still get the headset and the $5 of Microsoft money (converts to real money now in their store) for only $2 more.

edit: Also, I second what KinoTheMystic said, the chatpad is excellent. Even if you don't type a lot of messages, it's worth it just to enter the 25 character codes for DLC, etc.

u/OurEyesArentReal · 1 pointr/GameDeals

I have a Steam Controller and an Xbox 360 controller. My girlfriend and I played though Lego Marvel Superheroes, the Lego Harry Potters and some of Jurassic World with two different controllers. So if you want to mix and match, you're totally able to.

If you have any controllers laying around, see if you can find an adapter for them.

u/sirjimithy · 3 pointsr/Rockband

Guitar Hero 3 for PC only works with Guitar Hero guitars for some reason. It's possible to use Rock Band guitars by using a program called XPadder to map the buttons, but I've done that and it's honestly a huge pain. The best way to go is to find a wired Xplorer guitar for Xbox360 or get a Xbox360 wireless PC adapter and a wireless Guitar Hero guitar.

u/uvclay_ · 3 pointsr/CloneHero

If you don't have anything right now, I'd get a Wiitar and the Raphnet adapter. 360 Les Pauls (possibly any 360 GH guitar? I've heard 360 GH5 guitars are good as well but they get a lot less attention) are the best you can do wirelessly AFAIK, and the cost is basically a push given that a 360 wireless adapter and a 360 Les Paul is generally around the same price (maybe $10 more expensive) as a decent Wiitar and the Raphnet adapter. From what I understand, PS3 guitars are to be avoided.

I'd honestly just go to a thrift shop or some garage/yard sales and see what you can find and go from there. 360 guitars are still a good option even if the Raphnet adapter + Wii guitars are slightly better latency.

u/lovelytrout · 3 pointsr/xboxone

i honestly don't know, however the LS30's are cheaper and look like they're made of metal, then there's this quote on the LS30's amazon ad:

It's quality you can see and feel. Our uncompromising commitment to quality requires we use the best materials and components for durability and reliability. No cheap plastic parts for LucidSound.

edit: i want to assume the ls35x's will be pretty solid, waiting for them myself as well

u/Point4ska · 1 pointr/gameswap

I've barely worn the shirt and that's not the same shirt. As well but Conker is somewhat rare. Although I feel likewise and wish you the best of luck.

u/wilkamania · 2 pointsr/fightsticks

You can get one of these to save you a lot of time and experimenting: Brooks Ps3/4 to XboxOne Converter. About $43 on amazon.

For you to do the same, you'd have to buy a Brook Universal Fighting Board, which is $90+shipping alone. Then you'd have to put it together. They have prewired kits for $100. It's not bad until you realize you have no home button (never used an Xbox One, assumed it has a home like anything else). Depending if you use the select button or not, you can always wire that to the home button, but switch them back when it comes time to update the board.

The plus side is if you buy the UFB, it'll work on pretty much all the current systems and PC out of the box. Not a bad investment if you plan on playing on different systems. Also the lag on the UFBs are very very minimal, better than some stock sticks according to tests.

The downside is that route gets very expensive. I have built numerous sticks out of older sticks of all kinds, it adds up. My current "Stick" (hitbox made from an old madcatz TE round 1) ended up bring $300+ over time. But it's a fun hobby none the less.

u/Ultrameyda · 1 pointr/gaming

Easiest method, get a USB adapter

Then find a thumb drive that will work. The smaller the better (think 64 megabytes).

You’ll need splinter cell. Easy to find. Look up the splinter cell hack and follow the directions. Good luck!

u/shamshamsham · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Newer, smaller one: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-Packaging/dp/B0785SFKYF/

Older, larger one: https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-10/dp/B0785RHK5Q

I'm just basing this on the pictures shown on each product page. The older one is that big black rectangle with the USB connector sticking out of it, the newer one is, well, still a black rectangle, but it's smaller and the body is similar in size to the USB connector.

Looks like a bunch of orders for the new one on Amazon got mixed in with old ones, so I would just walk in to a Best Buy if you have one nearby and just buy one there so that you don't have to deal with any headache of wondering if you'll get the right one from Amazon. The retail packaging for the newer one comes in a small, primarily white box, whereas the old one is in a larger, totally green box.

u/HolyAberrant · 1 pointr/xbox

I once cut the end off an OG Xbox controller and connected the wires to a USB cord. Worked without issue on my PC. I can't remember what drivers I used.

Since wired 360 controllers are USB connections you might have some luck getting it to work on your OG Xbox. I imagine this is the adaptor to do it.

If you have a USB Type-A female end to play with and a spare OG Xbox connector cord to you could probably hack one together that will do the same thing.

No guarantees that it will work but let us know here the result!

https://www.amazon.com/NEORTX-Adapter-Cable-Xbox-Black/dp/B00SMCJB4Y/

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't read your question properly. You definitely can do this as I've said I've done it before.

This has a tutorial about how to connect the wires if you want to hack it yourself. It also has the drivers and how to install them on your PC with Windows 10.

https://www.s-config.com/xbcd-original-xbox-controllers-win10/

EDITx2: If you have a 360 wired controller you can should be able to connect that directly to your Windows based PC and it should work with far less hassle than messing with modding or buying an adapter for an OG Xbox controller.

If you're doing what I did and wanted to use an OG Xbox controller for emulation for the 6 button configuration then I understand. Good luck!

u/HarryPotterRevisited · 2 pointsr/CloneHero

Also check craigslist. Can't really go wrong with any of the guitar hero guitars expect live if you want to play the standard 5-note charts. Xplorers and les pauls are generally well liked. Xplorer is the only one thats plug and play, others need this as they are wireless.

I'd suggest playing it on your original xbox, since the 360 uses an emulator it can get pretty glitchy sometimes. Plus this way you can pick up your game!

I know people prefer PC to play these kinds of games but honestly I thought the menu system on the xbox was much better (less clunky) but it's probably just personal preference.

This is how I do it:
I have

  • minecraft forge and this mod

  • xbox dongle with two wireless xbox 360 you can use one controller and keyboard + mice if you want. the dongle can take 4 controllers, so it is nice to use with Project 64 and mario party and all the other games that is 4 player on steam etc.

  • we have two accounts. You do not have to, but if you want to play on an online server then you have to. If you have your own server or just open to lan then you won't need to.

and then just open two minecraft windows and open to lan or log into your own server.

Though, looks like OP could just give the kid the fullscreen and and use one of his monitors to play with him.

Nice on being able to keep that pad! I recently was able to get a Cobalt Flux as well so I was in the same spot you were. The Cobalt Flux should have a control box attached like here. Since there are both PS2 and Xbox ports, you can either get a PS2 adapter or an Xbox adapter. If you want to go the PS2 route you can get a Super Joy Box 3 Pro adapter. Personally I went the Xbox route. For the Xbox port, I bought 2 cables. An Xbox breakaway cable, and a Xbox Controller to PC USB adapter. These have worked like a charm for me. It doesn't have to be these exact ones but these are just the ones I used. I'm not too sure on the specifics of lag but it operates fairly well for me. Hope this helps.

u/xaronax · 0 pointsr/darksouls

Get the wireless dongle for Xbox controllers. It's the best for playing DS on the PC and TV, plus you can play Guitar Hero/Rock Band (if anyone still does). 360 controller is the best controller.

Yup, I had an early HD RPTV that would accept 1080i signals over Component video. Pre-HDMI as you mentioned.

OG Xbox could output 1080i over component as well, as long as you had the HDTV AV Pack.

Also, wow they want a lot for that thing. Glad I already have one!

I took my PS2's cable and shaved the bits on the end to fit into the original Xbox power slot. Worked like a dream. Also, old box fan cables did the trick back in the day.

Otherwise, it's not expensive on Amazon. for the non recall version at least.

I honestly wouldn't worry about using the recall version vs the standard. The worst thing that could happen is that your power supply inside the Xbox itself gets fried which isn't really a big deal. You can replace those somewhat easily, and there's an absurdly small chance that it'll actually happen.

u/True_Blue6 · -2 pointsr/xboxone

I use a PS4 controller on my Xbox One. I don't know anything about the method in the video, but I use this to do it:

https://www.amazon.com/PS3-PS4-Xbox-One-Controller-Adapter/dp/B00WJ1HONE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484547254&sr=8-1&keywords=ps4+to+xbox+one

It works pretty well. Every great once in awhile my controller may lose contact with the dongle, but it happens so rarely that usually it isn't too bothersome.

I prefer the controller to Xbox One's for everything, but especially the D-pad for 2d platformers.

u/IronHeart_777 · 1 pointr/PS4

The Xbox one elite analog sticks are a direct swap to the ps4. They come with a nice little carrying case, two different height sets and a domed set. The dish is metal, and the thumb pads are magnetic for easy removal and storage. That also makes replacement a cake, you literally only have to open your controller once in regards to the analog sticks. I have these on my ps4 controller and love them.

I don't know about "very cheap" but for under 100 this is as good as it gets https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QM7JUMY

It's around 89 bucks and moddable, a good introduction to fightsticks as the base parts are not bad for the price at all.

They are USB Wireless but can also be connected via Audio Jack and for me the sound quality it's pretty good, I use them when i play Rockband alone to hear the music and not the Strum bar ;P

u/olbaze · 4 pointsr/Tekken

With a budget stick, you're going to get the following:

  • Shitty parts that will fall apart quickly.
  • Shitty parts that you cannot swap out.
  • Missing functionality like L3, R3, Touchpad buttons, inability to switch stick to left stick or right stick mode.

Buying a budget stick is kind of like trying to play a PS4 game with a PS2 pad: You can play for the most part, but there are going to be times when you'll be forced to grab a PS4 controller.

Now, that being said, you can get decent sticks in the sub-100$ category, such as:

  • Mayflash F300 Elite. Has quality parts, but missing L3/R3 buttons.
  • Qanba Drone. Shitty parts, but can be modded with better ones. There's an EVO edition that comes with good parts. Surprisingly, has all the functionality of a higher end stick.
  • Mayflash F500. Big brother to the F300, comes with a plexi. Requires that you plug a controller into it to use. Missing some functionality (L3, R3 buttons). Easily upgradable with better parts.

If you want a stick that has quality parts and is not missing any functionality, your best option is a Hori RAP 4 Kai. They are often on sale at prices near (or below?) 100$.

I really liked that wheel and was bummed when it became incompatible with my XBOX. You can use that wheel with Forza 7 you just need to get an adapter. I use this;

http://cronusmax.com/cronusmax-plus/

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Authentic-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B00FAS1WDG/

It works fine, it's not perfect, but I like it better than using the controller. I guess I got used to it with my XBOX 360. Requires some futzing around and plugging the adapter into a PC and installing some dowloaded files to enable the functions on the wheel. I also have one of these;

https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/product/g920-driving-force

I use that when I play on my computer, it also works on the XBOX. I am not a fan of the clutter in my living room, also the pedals don't work all that well with the furniture I have in my living room.

If you're looking for a guitar I would recommend either:

  1. Wired X-plorer

  3. Wireless Les Paul

    I would avoid:

  4. Wireless GH: World Tour guitar
  5. Warriors of Rock guitar
  6. Rock Band guitars (except RB4 guitar has improved I'll give them that)

If you get a wireless guitar get this for your PC:

Just make sure it's an Xbox 360 wireless controller if you go that route.
u/chingdaotze · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I've used a multitude of controllers with various USB controller adapters:

Wii Classic
Gamecube
Xbox 360

Really, the 360 controller is the way to go and it seems to have become the de facto standard for PC controllers. Just look at the plethora of games that use XInput. I use a wireless 360 controller and a wireless receiver from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FAS1WDG/ref=pe_385040_30332200_TE_item

I know for sure seller EA Electronics is legit (despite the bleh name). Good luck.

u/esmith213 · 2 pointsr/RetroPie

For generic gaming needs I would recommend one of the following priced lowest to highest:

  1. 4 GameSir G3s Controllers (each comes with a 2.4GHz USB Dongle (recommended) & Bluetooth 4.0 (will lag)). $31/ea from amazon - $124 total LINK

  2. 4 Xbox 360 Wireless controllers & 1 Wireless USB Adapter (Controllers $44/ea - USB Adapter $14 - $190 total)
    USB Adapter
    Controllers

  3. 4 PS3 Controllers & (optional) USB Bluetooth Adapter(controllers ~$45/ea - USB BT adapter $13 - ~$193 total)

Obviously there is an advantage to be had if you already own some controllers under one of the suggestions, but aside from that it's personal choice. As a side note, if you get a Pi3 or Pi0w you won't NEED the $13 bluetooth adapter listed for option #3 but it's highly recommended since using the built-in bluetooth seem to have more inherent lag than a USB adapter. It's also worth mentioning that options #1 & #2 will likely have less lag than option #3 even with the $13 adapter since the wireless dongles for options #1 & #2 don't require the Pi to do any of the work in receiving any of the wireless signals and the manufacturers of #1 & #2 claim their wireless dongles are 100% lag free. The Pi will see #1 & #2 as if they are wired USB controllers.

This is not an exhaustive list by any means - just a recommended one. For example, you can use $10 knock off PS3 controllers as well but you need them all to be a specific/identical type and you have to mess with drivers to get them to work right. Also, ANY controller that comes with a USB wireless dongle will work, but quality, number of buttons, response of analog sticks, battery life, etc will vary greatly from product to product.

    Hope this info helps!
u/JulianPerry · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'd also suggest getting an Xbox 360 controller + Wireless Dongle as the RetroPi software has a very easy feature to map the buttons to a controller and then if feels very natural and responsive for emulation gaming. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Authentic-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B00FAS1WDG/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1498681214&sr=1-3&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+pc, with the CanaKit + Controller Dongle (assuming you may already have a 360 controller or find one around for cheap) your total would be about $90

Personally I bought the Mayflash F500 and bought a replacement stick and buttons from here. I'm super happy with it. My only complaint is that the rubber pads on the bottom did fall off presumably to cheap glue, but that's easily fixed. Feels really solid for the price point of ~110, plus it's my own stick, ya know.

u/IMI4tth3w · 2 pointsr/originalxbox

Edit2: I'm a dumb dumb. I have been learned that the OG Xbox is limited to 480i on over SCART cables. There may be some use cases for this and emulating some older consoles. But the best video output option is definitely via the original HD AV Pack (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-XBox-High-Definition-AV-Pack/dp/B00005R6YZ) into a high end upscaler (OSSC). 480p, 720p, and 1080i are options available over component, depending on the game.

Another option is to use a SCART cable and get an OSSC if money really isn’t an option. Probably the best possible quality you can get. Might be tricky to figure out how to get 5.1 working. No idea if there is such a thing as xbox SCART cable with optical audio.

Edit: you can mod your Xbox and add a digital audio output port fairly easily if you want RGB and surround video output.

So this SCART cable:
https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/xbox/ORIGINAL-XBOX-RGB-SCART-PACKACPUNCH-PRO-CABLE

This digital audio mod:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1uGUSwMKhKo

OSSC to convert RGB SCART to hdmi:
https://www.videogameperfection.com/products/open-source-converter/

Best possible everything you can get. Is it practical? Ehhh not so much. Although I just bought an OSSC and about to pull the trigger on the SCART cable. Planning the digital audio mod as well. If you have time to wait, I’ll do a full review.

Great job OP. I'm a little disappointed that the banana pi didn't catch on, but the only thing it had going for it was the sata port.

You might want to think of investing in a USB enclosure for the HDD and buy a raspberry pi 3. I have over 9TB worth of data connected to my raspberry pi 2, and I use OSMC with an Xbox DVD kit dongle that I converted to usb years ago to control OSMC with the included remote (OSMC even has native support for the xbox dongle in the remote settings).

You can use a Xbox controller with Windows, you just need an adapter. For Xbox 360 https://smile.amazon.com/Microsoft-Authentic-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B00FAS1WDG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1501172329&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+dongle. I'm wondering if perhaps you reverted a driver that shouldn't have been reverted or disabled one.

What you can try is to use System Recovery and go back to an earlier time period. You can do one that will reset everything (if you don't care about your data or have it saved on the cloud or something; this is my recommended option, if you have important data, back it up to a flash drive or cloud or something) or you can use the one that keeps your files. This one simply messes with driver updates, usually but leaves your files in tact. It might be worth a try. Try to go back before you attempted all these changes.

If that doesn't work, I suggest doing the complete restore.

if it helps, I have a 20L5 and over 30 consoles and here's what I did.

  • SCART Breakout cable from retrogamingcables.co.uk for the 20L5
  • BKM 129X additional card for your 20L5

The reason for the two is I split everything into 2 categories

  • 1 - RGB SCART into the built-in inputs on the 20L5
  • 2 - Component (YPbPr) into the added 129x card

All RGB SCART consoles are being handled by a 'gscartsw' (scart switcher)
All Component consoles are being handled by a an 'Extron Matrix 300' (multi format switcher) get one cheap on eBay

  • Original Xbox - OEM Component Adapter Xbox HD AV Pack Do NOT get 3rd party cables, you will easily see how bad they suck with a monitor such as a 20L5
  • PS1 - RGB SCART Cable (ordered from a polish modder on eBay but retrogamingcables in the UK or wookiewin in US are good too)
  • PS2 - OEM Component Cables these NOTE because the 'gscartsw' can't handle sync on green I elected to go with component instead. Again stick to OEM for same reasons OR HDRetrovision's cable. They are fairly new.
  • Sega Genesis - RGB SCART - get the right model (1 or 2) from retrogamingcables or wookiewin
  • SNES - RGB SCART - same place as Genesis - try and get a "1CHIP" version of the console OR get a SNES Jr/Mini but this one will need an RGB mod as it doesn't do it natively but with this chip here it will look incredible. This is what I have and HIGHLY recommend it.

When you're ready to handle the audio now let me know and will tackle that!

**edit forgot to add, some sellers market PS1/PS2 RGB SCART Cables as the same or interchangeable but they are not. They will either have no resistors, 400ohm resistors or 1000ohm resistors. The PS1 needs resistance but the PS2 does not since it is built into the console. So:

  • PS1 requires 400ohm resistors in the SCART Cable
  • PS2 requires NO resistors (built in console)
  • Some makers make a 1000ohm SCART cable that can be used for BOTH

Check the descriptions of the cables for this info or ask the maker if it's not printed.

Yes there are services that have "suites" in places like Miami and they take care of importing and shipping. Everything after $50 pays 16% taxes, tho. And shipping depends on weight and size.

The gas I buy from Chevron works fantastic in both Car and Ford!

Jokes aside, same for me. This is the one I got (cost $19.99 when I bought it). Everything about it looked very authentic. Build quality, packaging, the driver CD it came with, and instruction booklets it came with. Usually Chinese knockoffs have obvious marks, especially if you look at any paper materials it comes with. USB OTG on my Nexus 6. I bought a cheap adapter off of Amazon ($1, something like this) and then plugged in a USB wireless adapter for 360 controllers (one of these; note that while Amazon has generic ones for cheap, I bought a generic one and it ended up not working at all and had to buy an OEM one).

Surprisingly, the wireless adapter worked instantly, no drivers or anything needed. GTA:SA on Android has controller support built in, too, so it just worked.

Only issue is that Android doesn't tell the controller which "slot" it's in (the light on the 360 that says if it's number 1, 2, 3 or 4) so the light on the controller continuously flashes. I downloaded some app that allowed you to fake out the controller so it thinks it's assigned to a specific slot (pretty sure it required root, don't remember what it was).

An in-between may be this or this (larger, comes with plexi and has custom artwork capability) since you could swap the parts out with your sanwa parts pretty easily.

Another option would be this if you want the same as the F300 but with bluetooth but it'd require some cable splicing as it only has four 2pin connectors while Sanwa uses 5pin for the joystick.

u/watwatwatuhoh · 1 pointr/Overwatch

Well, the more complicated options involve literally soldering new hardware into your console, which is probably not the best idea for users who aren't too familiar with the setup. Alternatively you can look into 3rd party hardware extensions like the CronusMax as seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdVOSpmUx9g

On a side note, I haven't personally used 3rd party hardware connections so I'm not the best source of reviews for products like the cronusmax but you shouldn't have issues finding reviews online.

u/Nateadelphia · 2 pointsr/XboxModding

I'd avoid the hotswap method as it's a bit risky. You can purchase a usb cable for use in transfering the saves for under $5, and MechAssault (the first found softmod exploit that seems to not be featured in any of the tutorials I find online) can also be found for cheap-- as in, much cheaper than a used copy of 007 or Splinter Cell, and provides the same results.

This video explains the steps from beginning to end.

Tools:
Xbox to USB Cable: $3.75, free shipping
MechAssault: Under $5.00 used with Shipping -- Ask the seller to confirm that it's NOT the "Greatest Hits" release as the softmod WILL NOT work with that.
USB Flash Drive -- Most will work, but you may need to try a few. If you have a USB drive that comes with "U3" or other built in software, it probably wont work. But any 1GB stick is MORE than enough space. Be aware that you will need to format the USB stick during this process.

Good luck! If you follow this method, let me know if you have any questions. I just finished my first mod this week and I found this method easy and reliable.

Star Wars Battlefront I loved this game at friend's houses but never had the right console for it!

But all the cool kids have one!

u/JayFoxRox · 1 pointr/emulation

I'd recommend to hook it up to a PC instead. The cables to do this are very cheap (Sometimes as low as $1, however, this is currently the cheapest I could find).
Then you can look at the actual data being send and do some actual experiments.

As almost all of the controller will be digital, a meter or PSU won't help much. I wouldn't even attempt to hook up the ATX PSU as you might break the controller (which is no longer produced, so we should consider preservation).

If you take any photos or figure anything out, you should document it somewhere. Ideally you'd do this somewhere fitting at http://xboxdevwiki.net . If you don't feel confident documenting this properly, still take good pictures of the insides (and explicitly allow us to use them) and tell us about it somewhere. If the chip labels are not readable in the photos, you should also write them down. Someone else will then probably add it to the wiki then.

The frontpage of xboxdevwiki also mentions places where knowledgeable people hang out, so I'd recommend going there if you are going to do this.

u/GolokGolokGolok · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I'm a bit iffy on that listing, two of the top four reviews claim their was fake. Other people have had good luck with it though, it seems. As of now, it's a toss-up between that one and this one for which one I'll order.

u/theknyte · 1 pointr/pchelp

Xbox 360 wireless controllers don't work that way. The USB port on them are strictly for charging, and not for linking to a console/PC. (Yeah, pretty dumb.) To get a X360 controller to work on PC you need either a real wired controller, or buy the wireless dongle for your PC.

The Xbox One Wireless controllers DO work on PC, by simply plugging a USB cable in.

u/xGMxBusidoBrown · 1 pointr/hometheater

Could you get something like this for the original Xbox and then use that as the DVD player?(I'm pretty sure the original Xbox can play DVDs but might need the media remote. It's been a long time since I messed with an OG xbox.

The Xbox adaptor doesn't actually use Bluetooth, it uses a proprietary wireless connection. (I think based off or similar to wifi)

To get the best connection from you controller, I recommend getting the xbox adaptor (get the newer one here) and a separate Bluetooth adapter. I got a $1 off of Ali Express, never had issues with it, but I don't use it extensively either.

u/FreedomAt3am · 3 pointsr/gadgets

> The original Xbox controller was my first experience with that, it helped that it was ginormous and easy to handle

It's back, you know? They remade it for X1/Win10. Though the original was usable on PC with some work. You wouldn't be able to do it, but if I knew you I would have done it for you.

Adapters do exist for this purpose, but YMMV. Try this one I found:https://www.amazon.com/Mizar-Replacement-Xbox-Controller-Adapter-Microsoft/dp/B000RT2868 Original Xbox emulation is almost impossible though, Cxbx only runs a few games at medium speed

u/thegamerpad · 1 pointr/xboxone

But it doesn't play 100% of the games, so in order to play some games, I still have to keep that original console for those games.

How can you call it free when the console costs a few hundred dollars? It just seems nuts to buy a new console just for the reason of playing your old games. I have a PS4, that kills the need for a XB1

Exact same scenario. Want to add a feature that requires a license? You had to pay for the license.

Think of the bigger picture. Why would Microsoft blanket license this for however many million Xbox One users there are so EVERYONE gets to use it 'free' when they know there's going to be a small number who will ever actually use it?

The Xbox One Controller's D-Pad sucks for playing Resident Evil with tank controls. Since you're stuck with the Xbox One, you could find a third party controller with a better D-pad or use a Dualshock 4 for Xbox One adapter. The Dualshock 4 has a way better D-Pad

u/mrteapoon · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

I think this is the one. It's the one I bought at least.

The only issue I have ever had was once when a game crashed I was unable to connect my controller until I restarted my system, I'm guessing it was some weird driver hangup. Only happened one time and it was a quick fix.

I have also heard of some games experiencing some FPS issues with the controller connected, so if you notice a game performing poorly when you know otherwise, it's worth turning off/disconnecting the controller and testing frames again. Not something I have seen personally, but I know it happens.
