41. Boveda for Cigars | One-Step Calibration Kit | Preloaded with 75% RH 2-Way Humidity Control | Precise Salt Test for Digital and Analog Hygrometers and Humidity Sensors | 1-Count

    Features:
  • PRECISE HYGROMETER READINGS: Our on-step hygrometer calibration kt makes sure your hygrometer is giving accurate readings. Precisely calibrate digital and analog hygrometer and humidity sensors, so they give accurate relative humidity (RH) readings of what’s going on inside a humidor. Even if your hygrometer says it doesn’t need to be calibrated, it does—every 6 months. A perfectly calibrated hygrometer will read 75% or 32% RH.
  • EASY & MESS-FREE CALIBRATION: Simply place a hygrometer or humidity sensor in the airtight bag with the enclosed Boveda humidity pack. Zip closed and check back in 24 hours. If a hygrometer doesn’t read 75% RH, adjust by the number of points it’s off, then re-test. For added accuracy, do a 2-point calibration with a 32% RH Boveda calibration Kit. If your hygrometer reads above or below that number, adjust the calibration by the number of percentage points it is off from 75% or 32% RH
  • REUSABLE: Good for 3 months after opening (2 years if unopened in original packaging). Re-calibrate a hygrometer or humidity sensor every 6 months to keep it performing effectively. The One-Step Calibration Kit is a simple and surefire method to accurately calibrate any digital or analog hygrometer or humidity sensor.
  • ULTIMATE SALT TEST: Inaccurate Hygrometer readings put premium cigars at risk. Precisely calibrate digital and analog hygrometer and humidity sensors, so they give accurate relative humidity (RH) readings of what’s going on inside a humidor. Do-it-yourself calibration methods, like bottle cap salt tests, are imprecise and inaccurate. Good for three months after opening!
  • ABOUT US: Boveda devoted the past 23 years to the science of two-way humidity control, we know you will benefit from our commitment to precision. Becoming the global leader in any category does not happen overnight, but Boveda did this and continues to do so since 1997. Today, that persistence looks like millions of two-way humidity control packets getting shipped out each year to protect your finest cigars and tobacco related products.

> Wow. First of all, thanks for worrying and writing all this down. I really appreciate it.

My pleasure. I sincerely hope it helps to protect you from injuries.

> I am ordering a more advanced vape (with replaceable batteries) one of these days, just gotta sit down and make up my mind on which one to get.

It might help if you start with deciding on the battery type you want to use. If you use AA NiMH batteries, you never have to worry about accidents, and you can take the batteries on airlines or do whatever you want with them, and nobody will get hurt.

If you want rechargeable lithium batteries, 18650 is probably your best bet, and you can find more reliable 18650 cells using u/parametrek's site. I start with a link to a search for AA batteries, since those are the best choice in my opinion:

  • Search for AA batteries by Wh/$ - Parametrek

The best AA batteries for vaping probably aren't on Parametrek's site, so I'll link to them here:

  • IKEA LADDA AA NiMH 2450 mAh rechargeable battery 4 pack

They're cheap, high capacity, available locally, and SAFE. I actually recommend getting AA Eneloop NiMH batteries for all your battery needs, and then using the excellent quality Eneloop charger for your IKEA LADDA AA batteries. Just don't use the Eneloop cells in your vape device, because you pay extra money for them to get more longevity, but vaping devices are so rough on batteries, you won't actually get more longevity out of Eneloops if you use them in vapes, so there's no point in paying the extra money for them.

Just get the Eneloops for your OTHER devices, and use the Eneloop charger for your IKEA LADDA batteries. IKEA has chargers too, but they're not as good as the Eneloop charger, despite costing about the same price, and will shorten the life of your LADDA cells.

I recommend you get these ones (make sure your battery specifications match the packaging in this photo):

  • New battery day! 24 AA Eneloop NiMH batteries in 16 and 8 cell packs. : r/AAMasterRace

Get this package first to get the highest quality charger on the market:

  • AmazonSmile: Panasonic K-KJ17MCA4BA Advanced Individual Cell Battery Charger Pack with 4 AA eneloop 2100 Cycle Rechargeable Batteries: PANASONIC: Electronics

You need that charger to get the full life out of Eneloops. If you take care of them, Eneloops will last at least a decade, maybe longer. The IKEA LADDA would last a maximum of perhaps 4 or 5 years, but that life will probably be closer to 1 or 2 years in a vape device. I'm not really sure about this, so like most things, results may vary.

Another good option are AA Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries, which are not rechargeable, but they're lightweight, and they last longer than any other battery on the market, by far:

  • AmazonSmile: Energizer AA Lithium Batteries, World's Longest Lasting Double A Battery, Ultimate Lithium (12 Count): Health & Personal Care

By being non-rechargeable, they are safer, but still provide the power you expect from lithium. They're expensive, but you could keep a few on-hand in case you don't have time to charge your NiMH cells, and you really need power immediately. They have a 20 year shelf life, so if you don't get around to using them for a very long time, that's OK too. For a lot of people, the convenience of disposable cells is sometimes worth the price, especially if you're traveling and you can't stop to charge.

OK, now for the 18650 cells, in case you choose a more powerful 18650 vape device. u/parametrek tries to be selective, and eliminate junk from being listed on his sites. So, if you see a product on his site, it's unlikely to be absolutely horrible, but with that said, I must warn you the quality standards for most lithium cells are, well, not standardized. Without standardized specifications, it can be harder to predict what exactly you will get, but suffice to say, if you stick to the better brands, you will definitely be safer than with mysterious non-replaceable batteries (NRB's).

Again, for safety reasons alone, you can't beat AA batteries, but if you decide you want the power of 18650, this should help you find something that will work for you:

  • Search for 18650 batteries by Wh/$ - Parametrek

Notice the Vapcell brand, which is presumably designed for vaping devices. I'm not sure if there's any meaningful difference, but one thing I did notice it is priced about where most decent 18650 cells are priced at, around $7 to $8 USD.

Oh, one more thing, there are 14500 cells you could consider too. They're the same size as an AA battery, so I think I would just use an AA battery, but here they are in case you want to look around:

  • Search for 14500 batteries by Wh/$ - Parametrek

You might be able to find a device designed to take both 14500 or AA batteries, but they have to be designed for it. If it's not designed for it, bad things could happen if you put the wrong battery type in, so don't just try it to find out, you have to be sure before you do it by checking the features and specifications of the device. Now that you know it's possible, you can look specifically for this feature if you want it and it exists.

I hope that helps you find a device that works well for you, safely.

Sure! There are a ton of great keychain accessories out there but the criteria for mine are all items must:

1: Be < 2" (Preferably 1.5")

2: Fit in my pockets comfortably (jeans)

3: Be used at least once every 3 months
(Ambu Pouch excluded)

Accessories used Most - Least

The Freekey Sytem is the foundation of the keyring and is one of those products that is so elegant in its simplicity and functionality that it seems like it should have been invented years ago.

The SOG Straight Edge Key Knife comes sharp and has held an edge pretty well over the last few months. With its tiny blade it's not going to replace your Ka-Bar anytime soon but I can almost garuntee that you will use it more frequently.

The Swiss+ Tech 6 in 1 Utility Key coupled with The Infora Key Multitool seems to be gaining ground to overtake the SOG Key Knife as top tool in the line up with flat and Phillips screwdriver heads, bottle opener, and serrated blade.

The Streamlight Nano LED Flashlight is an awesome addition to the gang and probobly the one that has saved my ass the most, there are too many times I've wasted time looking for a light source in the dark.

The 2.0 64 GB Kingston Data Traveler SE9 USB drive. Reasonable speed coupled with great durability. The cast in keyhole eliminates the possibilty of losing the USB from a weak tether and defiantly holds a perminent place in my top 5 keychain accesories. Along with its basic utility I keep a file named "If Found: Reward" on it with my information in case I lose my key ring.

The True Utility TelePen telescoping keychain pen is one of those items that doesent get the everyday recognition the others do but is totally fucking clutch when you do need it. I owe a couple side projects I've picked up to this pen, partly because of the writing aspect but more from it as a talking piece.

The InCharge Ultra Portable Charging Cable is a cool little accessory that I thought would get the boot initially but saved my ass when I was in transit and my buddy only had an Apple cable with his charger.

The True Utility FireStash Keyring Lighter is the only item on the list that I haven't actually "needed" but will probobly keep anyway because fire is such a basic necessity and if I ever DO need it I'm probobly going to name my kids True and Utility.

The Ambu Res-Cue keychain CPR mask rounds out the list but might be the most important. Along with it being being a valuable lifesaving/self protection asset it's also super useful for locating my keys. I once read something about humans being able to see more shades of red than any other color and that our minds are geared to "ook out for it. Whether that's true or not it's always the first thing I see when I misplace them and because of its shape it stops my keys from going between the seats.

I didn't have a ton of time to type this up because I'm on my phone at work but I hope this helps!

Here's what I carry from your list:

Knife/multitool: Leatherman Skeletool - I use this so much for so many things it's ridiculous. They're as cheap as $20-$30 at Home Depot sometimes, but the average price is around $40-$45. Pliers, locking knife that's half-serrated, a bottle opener, and a reversible screwdriver bit. Add this bit kit for $5 to replace the bit with a single bit with both philips and flathead in one. (For some reason, the Skeletool ships with two bits that are just small/large flathead and small/large philips, necessitating changing the bit entirely to swap between types.)

Flashlight: I carry a Nitecore Mh12, but for your price point a Thrunite TC12, which I also own. It's based on the 18650 battery which has 4 times the capacity of an AA battery. Because this light is rechargeable via USB, you don't need a standalone charger to go with it. It's waterproof to 2 meters, shockproof to 1.5 meters, and has brightness settings ranging from 0.4 lumens (see where you're going in a dark house without waking an SO) to over 1,000 lumens, almost as bright as high-beams on a car. Yes, really. At it's lowest setting, it'll last almost 80 days. Yes, really. $69 on Amazon. Make sure you get the neutral white version (TC12 NW) as it's easier on the eyes and gives more accurate color. I've linked directly to it, bundled with about the highest-capacity battery you can get for it.

If you want to be a rockstar you could get her a 4-pack of batteries for another $50. And if she still needs to buy extra batteries, it will accept 2 CR123 batteries (not as common as AA, but still relatively common) instead, albeit with lower overall life than a single 18650 cell. Note: there are a lot of crappy, knock-off 18650 batteries out there that are not only unreliable, but also lie about their capacity and have been known to cause fires. The KeepPower batteries are great, reliable, high-capacity, and about as cheap as you'll find reliable cells for on Amazon.

Lighter: Apologies; I don't carry a lighter at the moment as I so rarely need one. /u/osufan19's suggestion of a Tesla Coil Lighter seems like a good one, though, and now has me thinking of adding it to my EDC for the coolness factor alone. $20 on Amazon, and here's a GIF of it in action. (Note: the waviness is someone blowing on it, I think.)

Keychain/holder: I like the KeySmart. However, some keys in India aren't standard sizes (depends on where she'll be), so bear that in mind. I've got the can opener and measurer on mine, but have yet to use either. I did, however, need extensions to add more keys. This will run you $19 on Amazon, but I'd recommend ordering that directly from KeySmart as they'll include the loop for attaching a car fob or nonstandard keys for free $5 more on Amazon), and other accessories are cheaper direct. I'd also recommend the extended version rather than the standard length, as longer keys (like a car key) fit better. Going direct, the total for an extended KeySmart with the loop, extensions for 2-14 kes (as opposed tio 2-8) and shipping will be $24.95.

Small bag/holder: I carry everything in my pockets, and it fits nicely/doesn't print. This may not work well for a woman, however, depending on her wardrobe. I wear jeans, and my pockets actually have room.

---

Total cost: For the knife, bits, and light (minus the extra batteries), you're looking at $131.63 at Amazon. Add the Keysmart and you're at $156.58, which is only slightly above your budget. The lighter adds another $20. It does not include the bag, however, so bear that in mind.

When I was in Paris a few years ago, I remember that food and drinks could get pretty expensive. Sit-down restaurants cost at least $20 per dish and drinks were another $10. You can usually get pretty cheap meals from grab-and-go places, though. I'm sure this is the same for the other cities.

I recommend buying a travel book, like "Let's Go." I like this travel guide because it caters to younger people traveling on a budget. For every city, it lists cheap options for hostels, restaurants, and clubs/bars.

Make sure you're aware of the tipping policies for restaurants, and also know what is included with your meal. For example, I think tip is included in France and the tap water is free. The opposite is true in Germany, though.

I recommend getting a traveling backpack for your trip, instead of a suitcase. Backpacks are easier to transport, especially if you'll be getting on and off trains. REI has several good options. For me, a 40L pack was sufficient for a 2-week trip.

Since you'll be traveling for a couple weeks, I recommend getting some large Ziploc bags for your clothes. You can squeeze the air out of these bags and significantly compress the volume of your clothes. I used these for the first time this past summer, and they were great. They enabled me to bring a lot more clothes :)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003U6A3C6

My overall recommendation would be to try and not worry too much about money while you're in Europe. You're young and you'll work the rest of your life to make money :)

u/redditCT · 20 pointsr/ketorecipes

Where do I start... This thing is DELICIOUS.
(Lots of links to thank the ketoers who've inspired!)

I made keto bagels last week, using /u/shenorth 's post. They were good, but after 6 days of eating dense bread, I wanted something lighter. I've made crust cheese circles in the past, and decided to try again. I had leftover dough after making 8 circles and decided to roll out the leftover dough, dump a bit of cheese and leftover taco meat (from the night before), then fold the corners in.

This is the recipe I followed, but made a few changes.

  • Added 1 tsp of xantham gum (don't know if this helps. I've made it successfully before without it. YMMV)
  • Added italian seasoning

    So. Let's start.

  • Oven temp to 400.
  • Prep a large flat board (cutting board) to help move your finished product in and out of the oven.
  • 2 sheets of parchment paper (that fits your board)
  • Large Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Rolling pin (or empty wine bottle)
  • 1 1/2 cup Shredded Mozz
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese
  • 3/4 cup Almond Flour
  • 1 Egg
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Garlic Salt
  • Canned parm powder
  • Empanada keto filling of your dreams.

Microwave in a large bowl til melted:

  • 1.5 cups of mozz
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese

Once it's gooey and well mixed when you stir with a spatula (should be same color throughout):

  • Add 3/4 cup of almond flour. (I bought the wrong kind of almond flour. It works best with blanched.)
  • Add 1 egg
  • Sprinkle italian seasoning
  • Add 1 tsp of xantham gum if you have it.
  • Knead well in bowl!

Divide your dough into 6 parts. (Use your spatula to rough cut while the dough is flattened in your bowl)

Sprinkle canned parm on 1 side of the parchment paper (it'll be folded like a greeting card, not a "reserved" sign)

Place 1/6 of your dough on the canned parm, then sprinkle a bit more parm on top. Fold the parchment paper over it and roll it out into an oval shape. Place your filling on 1 side of the oval (Again, it will be folded like a greeting card.) Put in less filling than you think... Leave at least a 1/2 inch empty radius around your filling.

Use the parchment paper to fold the empty half of the oval over your filling. Press the dough edges together lightly, then use a curry puff fold method to fold the edges over. Essentially, you fold over 1 corner into itself, flatten it down with your thumb, then fold over the flat bit on top of the previous fold, and keep going!

    -----------------
If you're making circles, use this recipe:

Sprinkle some canned parm on your parchment paper and dump the dough on it.

Sprinkle a tiny bit of parm on the top of the dough ball as well, then cover with 2nd sheet of parchment paper.

Use your rolling pin or liquor bottle of choice to rooooollll out.

Grab a circular tupperware (the chinese take out kind works), and start punching out your circles. Re-roll out the dough. (If you find that your dough doesn't stick much to the parchment paper, you might not have to add more parm.)

Use a fork and poke holes in them so they won't bubble up.

    -------------------------

Okay! So you've made your pasty/empanada/meat pie and/or circles.

Pop them into the oven for 5 minutes, then turn them over for an additional 2. If it smells like burning, take it out immediately...

    ------------------

    Good luck!

P.s. If you're looking for a fried version, /u/looocha posted this recipe a year ago. Check it out!
u/Handsome_Zack · 8 pointsr/flashlight

Not the guy you're asking but here are my thoughts. There is pretty much no penlight on the market that will do what he wants, and it will be laughably ineffective regardless. If he needs something tiny, get him a Streamlight Stylus USB. That's gonna be about the brightest thing you can get with any ""tactical"" potency.

If you can talk him into a 14500 or 18650 light then he's more likely to get the power he wants. If he can handle having a solid chunk of aluminum on him, the Streamlight ProTac 2L-X and Wowtac A1S BSS v3 are going to be my choices for an inexpensive strobe machine. The Olight M1X Striker is another choice in this general form factor.

Streamlight also makes the ProTac 1L-AA which is a little smaller, but it only puts out 350 lumens.

All the lights I have posited outside the Stylus USB have easy access to the strobe mode, typically a double or triple tap on the tail switch. This is important to my mind because many lights require the light to be on and a button to be held for one second - practically useless and too long to get to if really needed.

I really hope that he does a big long think about what he wants out of this flashlight, and I hope he tries to "stun" himself with his flashlight to see what its like to be on the receiving end. The reaction he has, being prepared for it, is the best he can hope for in any situation in which he uses the strobe against someone. Its not like in the TacLight commercials.

I wrote a couple more of my thoughts on using a flashlight for self defense a little while ago if you find it handy. I personally like having the strobe and I would use it in an emergency situation, but its very important to note its limitations.

u/bedbugsugh · 5 pointsr/Bedbugs

Okay, I'm going to try and keep it manageable.

If you live in an apartment, you need to tell the super if only because you risk them going into other places and reinfesting.

There are kits you can buy, though just be sure anything you buy also has a sprayer of some kind if it's mixed

If a kit doesn't have encasements you should order those on amazon.

That said, here are some steps:

Wash and machine dry everything you own, and put them in these or these. Don't be stingy on this, buy 2-3 of them. Make outfits for work and home and organize them bag by bag. Lets call this 25 dollars.

Do this with your linens, pillow cases, and pillows. If your bedsheets are not light colored and plain, then buy some light colored plain ones. White is good, a little off white is best as nymphs can appear white if they haven't eaten, eggs too. Wash your linens every 4 days or so.

Buy mattress encasements for your bed AND your box spring. Measure both to make sure you don't buy one that's too big, the snugger the fit the better. Do not go too cheap on this, look at the reviews. A good one will have not only a zipper but a folding flap to secure it. Lets call this 60 bucks. Once on, never remove the encasement without a PCO telling you to. Do not try to make your own, it never works out well. Important note, do NOT under any circumstance have any kind of bed skirt or blanket that's so large it touches the floor easily. You're going to want to make it so the bugs have to crawl up the legs so they die on the cimexa.

If you do not have an iron/steel bed frame, I recommend getting the cheapest one you can find.

Clean everything off the floor, make sure no furniture is touching any other furniture or the wall. If you can't do that, you need to lose some stuff. Believe me it's worth it.

Vacuum daily if you can, and immediately toss out whatever you vacuum up in whatever trash is outside. Do not keep it inside. I wouldn't recommend vacuuming less than every other day. Vacuum early in the morning if at all possible.

Buy interceptors. These babies are pricey unfortunately. but a 12 pack should be good for a bed and something else. That's about 40. Make sure whatever bed post you have will fit in them, they're not the widest.

Buy two cans of bedlam plus. Spray it along each joint and crevice in all the furniture after you've emptied it out. Do not use over the counter sprays, they're almost always things bed bugs are already resistant to.

Buy two bottles of Cimexa and a bellows. Apply the cimexa on the perimeter of every piece of furniture that is on the floor as well as along the wall of the room. Unscrew every outlet and switch cover and put it there as well. Don't go overboard, less is more. This will be about 40 total for the set. I recommend spraying the legs of your chairs. Make sure to cover your face while you're doing this. Cimexa will kill them if they crawl over it, however if it's clumped up in big piles they'll walk around it because they don't like it.

Do NOT switch where you sleep. They'll follow you and spread to other parts of where you live. You're live bait. It sucks, but having them come to where you're sleeping is the best way to kill them. You want them feeling safe and secure as they walk over the poisons and cimexa you've laid out.

You'll be living out of bags for a long long time, so get used to it. I recommend scheduling something you enjoy every week to keep your sanity and have something to look forward to.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy a bed bug bomb. It will scatter them and make them harder to clear.

Nothing goes on the bed unless it's sterile, and nothing leaves the bed without being washed and dried ASAP.

Sounds like you need a decently bright, durable light that runs on batteries that will take a very long time to drain, and won't mind temperature extremes.

I don't usually recommend lights that run on AA cells, but if you're looking something you can just leave in your vehicle and never have to think about charging, you probably want something that runs on lithium primary batteries (not lithium ion, NiMH, and definitely not alkaline). Lithium primary batteries are much less affected by hot and cold temperatures and will hold a charge much longer than any other typical consumer battery.

Your best bet for a mix of durability, quality, brightness, and features would be either the:

  • Armytek Prime A2 (use coupon code 'reddit' at Killzone for 1-% off, bringing it down to $64.80 and free shipping.

EDIT: Note that /u/jotMJEG just shared an anecdote about three Armytek lights failing when left in vehicles, so you may wish to consider the Zebralight instead.

    or

  • Zebralight SC5w Mk II.

Both lights will be very durable and high quality (Armytek and Zebralight are noted for this - though questions have been raised about Armytek), and more than bright enough.

You should use a lithium primary AA battery, such as the Energizer Lithium. That way you can throw it in the light and never think about it until you run it down from use, or maybe in about 20 years of non-use.

    ***

EDIT: And by the way, I recommend a AA lithium rather than a lithium CR123 for two reasons:

    (1) Due to the AA's higher capacity (3,000 mAh vs the CR123's 1,500 mAh typical), the AA will have longer runtimes before needing a replacement, and

    (2) The shelf life of a lithium AA is typically around 20 years vs. a CR123's typical 10 years. That means a AA lithium should have more juice and hold up better when you need it.

The added brightness some CR123 lights can achieve is not going to be that noticeable or matter much for your occasional use, but the extra runtime and shelf life will.

I think everyone else has the basic cleaning tips covered already. I listen to an audiobook, podcast, or other such things when I clean. I find it makes the work go easier because I have this fun and interesting thing to listen to and if I get into it enough I want to keep cleaning so I can listen more. Music doesn't usually have the "I want more" aspect and doesn't work as well for me.

Good luck with your spring cleaning! I hope you keep feeling better and don't get sick again!

Edit: Oh! Bar Keepers Friend is amazing. It is the only thing I have found to clean my flat ceramic stove and it works wonders on the shower floor too. That floor was stained yellow when we moved in and this turned it white again. Amazing stuff.

Dowels and chopsticks with sandpaper wrapped around them, and a Dremel with a variety of stones. It's gonna be a labor of love.

Proluxe is good, but it's really just a deck stain. And the semitransparent is a water based acrylic... you're not gonna like the finish it gives you on that beautiful old hardwood. It'll look like plastic. I'd personally go with an Old Masters penetrating stain (you can go with a wiping stain if you wanna tone down the grain a little... wiping stain will give you a little more of the semitransparent look) followed by a spar finish (3 coats, applied with sponge brushes, light sand with 220 between coats - juuuuust kiss it with the sandpaper). It'll give the door a richer and longer lasting finish than a simple coat of deck stain, and the spar is UV protectant.

I'd use Evaporust or Metal Rescue on any of the ironwork that can be removed and allowed to soak (with both products, you strain the soak and pour it back into the jug - it's reusable several times). After the rust removal soak, clean with acetone and use a self-etching primer. For anything you can't remove and soak, use Rust Reformer after wire brushing instead of a simple primer for tough surfaces - it converts surface rust to magnetite to stabilize it. Then proceed with your black color coat. After the black, spray with a couple coats of satin clear. All the paints I linked are available at any auto parts store and Walmart, and I believe Home Depot carries Metal Rescue.

That's a gorgeous door. Take pictures and post a project gallery!

Edit: added that Proluxe semitransparent is water based.

Wheels can be the time consuming part, but the most fun.
My set-up for wheels & tires:

Tuf Shine Tire Brush:
This is better than Mother's Tire Brush, just does the job better. Obsessed Garage talked about it, it's bound to be good.

SuperClean Degreaser:
I like this one because the smell isn't as strong as Meguiar's Wheel Brightener, and I can use it for both wheel and tires at once. Scott from Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing recommend this one and it's hard to look back after using it. Buy a small bottle first before buying a gallon to see if you like it.

Wheel Woolies:
I hesitated to spend $50 on these brushes, but after buying them I had no regrets. You don't get the splash back from other wheel brushes.

Black Wash Mitt:
I used to use this one but I find that using a black microfiber mitt for the face of the wheel and in between the spokes made it a lot faster, and you can get behind the spokes too. But that brush is useful for lug nuts though.

Creeper Seat: This is a nice to have if you're working on a flat surface. Nice to have but not a necessity.

Don't waste your time with a grinding wheel! Ah! There are sooo many better ways that are substantially easier and are much less harsh to the stove and to you. I would highly suggest just getting a large tub (rubbermade stuff) and putting any piece you can remove (top, legs, doors, etc) in it with a few gallons of white vinegar. Plain old vinegar does an amazing job on at removing rust. Literally eats it right off and doesn't hurt the metal. Even just using a mild acid like lemon juice or soda with some tin foil will be easier then a grinding wheel. Look up some rust removal videos on Chrome parts on youtube, same logic.

Check out this steel tank I cleaned up.

http://imgur.com/a/eb8Wv

Photos almost don't do it justice. The first photo I had already started cleaning it. I just let it soak for a couple hours and used the stainless steel dish scrub and the rust started coming right off. put the tank back in overnight and it came out as you see in the second photo. again, scrubbed it more and hit it with some baking soda to stop the acid reaction. cleaned it with a towel and dried it in the oven. 0 tools used. no grinding and the metal came out gleaming.

for anything that's to big to soak, can also use this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GRSOJSS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

very safe and isn't harsh to work around. a grinding wheel will take you hours and is going to eat away a lot of good metal. it's also going to potentially ad brush marks. even if you paint over it, still might see them.

good luck!

edit: just wanted to mention, in the second photo, the bottom half of the tank was sitting in the vinegar over night. that's how clean it came out without evening touching it with a scrubber.

There's a lot of stuff out there you can use. But given that you're indoors and can't easily remove the bar to take it outside, there are fewer options, but still some. My personal recommendation is Evapo Rust:

https://www.amazon.com/Evapo-Rust-ER004-Super-Safe-Remover/dp/B00GRSOJSS

It's a lot safer and less toxic than other common chemicals used to remove rust, which is important because you're using it indoors.

You may want these other tools in case abrasive action is needed:

  • Steel wool
  • Wire brush
  • Sand paper

You might not need all of them, but just see how it goes.

Edit: Make sure you soak the rusted areas of the rod as much as you can. If it's light rust, most should disappear in 30 minutes, but if it's heavy it's supposed to sit overnight (preferably soaking in the stuff, but that might not be possible unless you can remove the bar). Wipe off with water, and use a wire brush to clean up anything left on.

Additionally, protect the shower from future rust by applying a thin layer of mineral oil to it periodically.

Edit 2: I found some information on the internet that suggested you can even use vinegar to remove rust. Use what you want. I think Evapo Rust is superior. Some people say vinegar can kind of turn metal kind of a gray matte and not shiny. To keep the rod soaked, you can saturate paper towels, wrap them around the shower rod, and then wrap aluminum foil around it and leave it there for however long (preferably overnight).

If you decide to replace it, maybe go with something low maintenance like plastic or something corrosion-resistant like galvanized steel.

I'm going to try to make this easy for you. Here is a setup that will provide you with some basic solar power. Don't expect to run your laptop 24/7 , but this will give you plenty of juice to get a few creature comforts in place and you'd probably be able to keep a business class laptop going all day with it.

u/mrliquidjesus · 5 pointsr/cigars

The good news is cheaphumidors.com is actually a fairly well respected site by this sub. I can only hope that's where he got it =) We even get a nice 15% off with them. (See the side bar - Cigar Deals)

That being said, grab a couple of these bad boys - Bodeva 84% packs. You should only need one to season your humidor. Follow the instructions on/in the package.

For calibrating - Install the analog one, and forget it. Its now a glorified cork for your humidor. Grab a digital one and a calibration kit.

Welcome to the family!

I too have issues with my hands and I found a thing on Amazon called The Cone Artist for about $7 that really helped me. It's two pieces that fit together to give you a cone shaped mold to roll your paper around with a recess to hold a crutch. After you've formed your cone, you can slide it off, pack the funnel, and fill accordingly. Super simple and mine has lasted for a couple years now. I've also seen them from time to time in local head/glass shops. Here's a non-affiliate amazon link to it. Hope this helps, Ent! Good luck!

Thanks. As far as packs go, I'm also pretty set on only buying Ospreys in the future because of their lifetime policy. I've got a Farpoint, a Talon and a Rev, but I'm weighing my options until my intro main pack that isn't an Osprey falls apart.

Separating is good, too. The Tesla lighters are just as heavy (if not heavier) as a Zippo or the ferro rods bc of the internal battery, but they're also SUPER fun. I've been using this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016P8A1K4 It's like a mini taser. I fully charged mine when I got it and tried to count how many times I could turn it on for 3 second durations, and I stopped counting at 200 only because I got bored with just pressing the button.

I use lithiums too.

When Ni-Zn rechargables have a longer track-record, I'll probably give them a try. My concerns are I have read about leaks. Also Ni-Zn currently require a special charger. Once Ni-Zn batteries have been out a while it'll be safer. The additional voltage is a nice feature for the controllers.

For now, I use these lithiums >> USB Rechargeable Batteries 1.5V/1500mAh Lithium Ion AA Battery with 4-in-1 Micro USB Charging Cable 1.5h Quick-Charge Built-in Integrated Safety Circuit Protection Double A Batteries(4 Pack)

I am going to echo others who suggested that it might be a good idea to prepare a way (or several ways!) to heat food without fire. No point in storing all that rice if you have no plans to cook it. For a bug-in grid-down situation, my plan involves a set of 12 volt deep cycle batteries (which will become part of my battery bank when I eventually save enough money to go solar) and a 400 watt inverter as a power source for a small slow cooker (90 watt) or a small rice cooker (300 watt). What I like about this system is:

It's very effective for boiling water, cooking stored grain, canned food, etc.
It is very quiet, just a little bit of a hum from the inverter fan, unlike a noisy generator, which could attract uninvited guests.
Can safely be used indoors without risk of CO fumes, although you do want to be very careful with any sort of lead acid battery - keep it in a protective container.

Only drawback I see is you do need access to clean drinking water (for cooking and/or clean-up afterwards) and you need to keep lead acid batteries charged or they lose power over time. Stored and maintained properly, this could be a good prep for folks in apartments.

Do not freeze them. Assuming that you keep humidity in check you have no concern over beetles.

Take a Tupperware container (or any airtight container) with you which is at least 8" long, then buy a humidity packet called a Boveda, which you can her on Amazon. This packet will automatically regulate the humidity to be just right.

Keep them sealed up, and open the container only when needed. They will age beautifully like this for years. Also store them in a dark place at around 68° f

Airtight glass kitchen canisters work well too. These TightVac containers are great too, just make sure you get the big one. Either of these will also need a Boveda pack. URLs below.

i normally start with like 75%-80% for the first week or so then drop it down to 70% for the rest of the aging. This allows the meat to dry out slowly at first so the casing doesn't harden and trap in moisture which can lead to spoilage. I think it is important to get an adjustable hydrometer and calibrate it so you know your actual humidity and not assumed. However, if your meat didn't spoil but just hardened around the edges, you can vacuum seal the end result for a couple weeks and it will even it out and improve the mouthfeel.
this is a good hydrometer and this is a good calibration kit

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Charcuterie

This is what I use: http://www.amazon.com/Ziploc-Double-Zipper-Large-5-Count/dp/B003U6A3C6/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1394397934&sr=8-5&keywords=ziplock

Maybe that's not the exact size but you should be able to size it accordingly. Assuming you have a normal sized fridge it should fit (with the brisket) in one of the vegetable drawers.

Alternatively, you must have a large cooler no? Either throw it in a ziplock and the cooler (or just the cooler but it may stain the plastic) and put it in your porch. If you want to be hard core you could even throw in a frozen milk jug full of water to make sure it stays cold.

My corned beef always comes out too salty so consider soaking it a while prior to smoking it. Good eats! Happy st patty's day!

u/NvBlaze · 1 pointr/Gunpla

Yeah, that's pretty much the order. Some guys will throw extra layer of gloss here and there, for example between panel lining and decals or after those if they're weathering. That's personal preference though.

As for gloss - it often depends on what you can get locally. Most cost effective option is airbrushing FFA, if you can get your hands on it. As for spray cans, Mr.Topcoat is often recommended. I've had a good experience with it so far, though it is a bit pricey for the amount you get. I'll probably be decanting and airbrushing it for my next project.
If those don't work for you, most other major paint manufacturers like Tamiya, Vallejo, AK, Testors and so on have a gloss coat (sometimes called varnish) in their lineup.

I bring it to a "do it yourself" car wash. Make sure the vehicle hasn't been running very long and give it 5-10 minutes with the hood open to cool the engine down. I then use a cheap and widely available product called "Super Clean", it comes in a purple bottle. This stuff is the absolute best degreaser on the planet, it is an exceptional product. Anyways, you very liberally spray down your entire engine bay, avoiding the sensitive areas (alternator, plugs/coils, distributor) and let it sit for a few minutes.

Then go put a few quarters into the pressure washing machine, and turn it to the high pressure water rinse. Start very carefully rinsing off the engine bay. DO NOT directly shoot the water into the engine. Stand back quite a ways (5-6ft) and think of it more as a high pressure mist; which will indirectly, yet strongly, rinse the degreaser off. Trust me you do not want to shoot high pressure water into your spark plugs/coils and start to get cylinder misfires and other annoying shit to fix. It is really an easy process, you just need to take your time and be very careful.

After this is done, bring the vehicle back home to the garage and let the engine bay get completely dry. This process can be sped up by using an air compressor and blowing all the water off, or you can just let it sit half a day with the hood open. Once dry, take Armor All and wipe down everything: plastic, hoses, caps, tanks, and covers. Now your engine bay is free of dirt and grease, and has a nice shine to everything making it look brand new. Potential buyers absolutely love to see this and it will significantly help you in selling the vehicle.

I am going to put in a vote for a Sticky Brick. I own and love both devices, and the reason I'm going for the Brick is because the way it's used is more reminiscent of smoking. It feels like you're smoking out of a bowl.

Also, when it comes to "Fast and hard hitting", both devices are exactly that, but the Brick can vape faster and hit harder, relatively speaking.

Lastly, if at any point the sesh has more than one person, the Brick is, in my opinion, the only option. Vapcaps are a very personal experience, due to bowl size.

My torch recommendation is this: Eagle Torch
It is Prime eligible as well. I hope you find a vape that prevents your mother from smoking.

Edit: Forgot to recommend some butane: Colibri This is also Prime eligible.

I'd just put the biggest marine deep cycle battery I can fit as my starting battery, (probably group 31) and get a $100 lithium jump pack in case I ran it down.

Or

You can build your own goal zero type portable battery setup for$200-400. The Yeti 400 is a 33ah 12v AGM deep cycle battery with 300w sine wave inverter and a 12v plug in. It also has features like low battery alarm, displays power usage, and comes with an AC charger. You won't save much $ making it smaller/less powerful, but it will weigh less if you'd like to use a smaller than 33ah battery.

$50-150 for an AGM deep cycle 12v battery, 33ah

$75-150 for a 300w pure sine wave inveter, you can save more money if you don't need pure sine wave or 300w, or don't mind an always on fan

$25-50 for a 12v trickle charger to charge the battery up at home, if you don't have a charger already

$15 for a male to male 12v adapter to charge it from your car, or use your jumper cables.

$10-20 for a 12v socket or two, or a USB charger socket

$10-50 for a battery case to hold the battery and mount the inverter and sockets on

$30 on misc parts like voltage display, wire, and fuses

Speaking of your link (ha!), get a container of wet wipes and some spray deodorant for your self and the clothing bag. If you have a place where they could hang and dry it would be ideal, since otherwise you'll have to put on damp clothing for the ride home. If you have a bike cage at work, perhaps hanging them off a hanger from your wheel or handlebars.

Otherwise, if you have no choice but to place them in a sealed bag, Fred Meyers has enormous ziploc bags in their home storage department. You probably want L or XL, XXL can fit a King sized duvet; I think FM only carries L and XXL. BTW, they're also good for an inner just-in-case liner for any electronics you're carrying; I carry one on me when I'm on vacation in order to save anything that can't get wet in case I'm stuck outdoors in a monsoon.

Edit: This is what you're looking for. They're not exaggerating in the box art, they really are that big.

If you don't want mold on your cigars, then you need a hygrometer you trust. Based on your post, you currently do not have one.

Go online and find a digital one that can be calibrated, this one for example would work. I have several of these and they work great.

Once it arrives, you will need to calibrate it. Boveda makes a calibration kit that works very well. There are other methods, like the salt test that could work. However the calibration test is my preferred method.

fool proof, get a Vallejo wash and just brush it on real fast. I would buy a can of primer from wal-mart first and go over them real fast prior to doing the wash though, krylon is easily the best spray on primer for minis.

alternatively you can dip it in some wood stain and that works pretty well.

and if you mess up, just submerge the messed up mini in a simple green bath overnight and clean it with a toothbrush, and it is ready for a redo.

Like the others said, get a digital hygrometer. The analog ones are junk and shouldn't be trusted. The Caliber IV is a good choice. Also, you'll want to calibrate it using one of these. I put containers of distilled water on every level and left it for a few days. Just let it do its thing. Lightly moistening the shelves and drawers will help, but don't overdo it because they can warp.

As for humidification, the general rule of thumb for Boevda is one 60g pack for every 25 cigars that the container is ABLE to hold (for example, if it's listed as a 100 ct you'd need at least 4 packs). You might want more than just 12 of the 60g packs. 65% is what you want.

Our wineadors seem to be similar in size so for reference, I use 6 of the 320g packs (one on each shelf/drawer) and the humidity is rock solid. It might be excessive but keep in mind that you can't have too many Bovedas since they're self-regulating. The more you have, the longer they'll last and work more efficiently.

Another thing to note is if you have a drain plug at the bottom of your wineador is to plug it. It's just another spot for humidity to escape.

Follow the instructions and for the love of god do not put your drill in reverse!!!

I bought a new house the dryer would not vent at all. I had to use the claw at first and pulled out socks, underwear and literally a giant pile of lint. It would fill your avg kitchen sink. Once done put your shop vac on the end and blow out the loose stuff. If you don't own a shop vac, now is the time to buy one.

I now once a year clean my vents and I've used it for many other projects.

I keep a running list of current WIP's with notes to myself so I don't forget things as I switch between them. This helps when I can't decide which one to work on, I can kind of choose the "easiest" one based on my notes.

I limit myself when I have too many WIPs, and I don't start any new projects until I finish at least one WIP, which gives you the inspiration to get going!

As for organization, I keep everything for a project in large ziploc bags.

Hope this helps!

u/SheerLunacy · 3 pointsr/Warmachine

This is the answer. If you've got a lot of minis, just buy a big jug of it. If your minis are plastic, this is really the only answer. Put them into a glass jar filled above their heads with SG and give it a good swishing around every 24hrs. The longer you leave it in, the easier the paint will come off. Most stuff is easily taken care of by 24-48hrs, but if your model has a lot of deep nooks and crannies you might want to consider giving it a week. But as /u/Grammar_Cowboy pointed out, you can always clean them, then throw them back in for another soak too. Of note, the SG doesn't need to be drained after each batch of minis. You can reuse a full container multiple times.

I you want to break the minis down to re-glue, re-pose, or whatever, leave them in the SG for about a week. It'll make the glue very brittle and the pieces can then be carefully snapped off and the dried glue removed with a hobby knife or needle-nose pliers (my weapon of choice).

If the minis are metal, acetone (nail polish remover) works even better. It'll strip the paint and turn the glue into a soft, almost gel-like consistency. Which can then be easily cleaned off. The only downside it acetone will literally dissolve plastic. If your minis are on a base, the base will turn into a soggy, soupy mess.

The salt test can be weird at times. Not enough water or to much water. I have tried it numerous times and it works for me about 60% of the time. So with that being said I bit $8 the bullet with my lastest hygrometer purchase and bought one of the Boveda Calibration Kits

It worked like a charm. If you have more than one humidor or a couple of tupperdors or whatever the case maybe it says it will last 3 months.

On another note. The glass top humidor may be leaking around the glass. Buy some sealant and put it around the glass on the inside and see if that helps. I know a lot of people have trouble with leaks in glass tops and use a sealant to hold rH

My laptop needs at least an 180 watt inverter so that would be pretty useless to me. You can spend the same amount to get a 200 watt inverter along with a much more robust 35AH battery. Or spend a little more and get a 800-1000 watt inverter that can power your laptop plus a few other things and you will have a far more versatile setup. Save your other batteries for your mower, weed eaters, leaf blowers, etc.

This is the easiest way to roll a joint I've found. Just roll a crutch and slide it into the bottom of the orange tube. Then wrap a king size paper around the tube and the top of the crutch and seal it. This allows you to pull the cone cleanly off of the orange part. Then you put your cone on the clear part, and put ground herb into the top. You can shake it around, or use the orange part to pack it down.

You can airbrush it directly from the bottle for gloss, or add Tamiya's flat base a few drops at a time until you get the desired semi- or matte effect. I've used this numerous times with both Tamiya and Vallejo paint under it and no ill effects whatsoever.

The only negative is that they stay at 1.5v right up until they turn off, so there is no warning. Does not bother me att all, I just keep a pair charged and ready to go. If if has been a while and I want to make sure I am not interrupted, I just swap in a fresh pair before playing.

Edit... I just noticed that the ones I linked to are no longer available. Sorry. The ones shared by /u/warmwires look good enough that just ordered some for my new Quest.

That's where this stuff comes into play, it's a food safe product that's used in most tobacco to keep the moisture in, I think that's why most packed cigs keep for a while, but the RYO pouches may dry out (depending on ingredients list) if they decide to use a humectant or not.

Have you tried using those moisture pouches that cigar users use inside your tobacco tin? that way you'd possibly avoid getting mold into your tobacco using fruit as a source of moisture. I heard Boveda is a good brand, and have seen on some videos how to rehydrate them when they dry out.

Basically a bunsen burner but you can actually set the flame really low and get a nice toast going. Huge full tank so you don't have to refill often.

A Dollar Store tooth brush works well scrubbing out the dash buttons and recesses on the shifter.

Get some microfiber cleaning cloths at BB&B

After using Bar Keeper's Friend, I'll never use another cleaning solution for my hookahs. Works fantastically - especially for the base (make sure you've got some hookah brushes too) and the HMD.

Lint rollers like these... http://www.amazon.com/3M-836R-OS-Lint-Roller/dp/B00006IA8Q

I wear lots of black and cycle between long red or purple hair ;-)

Put some in a spray bottle and hose the area, soak a rag and put it against the rust. Take a piece of painters tape to hold the rag in place. Let it sit overnight. Wash with soapy water and dry. Repeat as required. Any parts you can pull off and dunk overnight will remove a lot more. This will remove the surface rust but will not undo any pitting. As to the chain don't try to remove the rust. Leave it obvious or replace the chain that is a safety issue.

I use this hygrometer. It's pretty cheap and was way off when it arrived. It's also pretty finicky to adjust the first time but it can be done. Try using this calibration kit.

Bar Keeper's Friend sells several liquids too. This would be similar to the polish: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B28ZYPU/

Either this or this and use with these. I prefer the liquid... good on ALL pans regardless of finish. (I use it on my semi-high end set with no problems... makes them look like new).
