Of course! So if you're ordering a new ds chances are it will be running an unexploitable firmware (I can't be 100% sure about that though because I'm pretty new to 3ds hacking myself, I would suggest checking out /r/3dshacks and looking into installing arm9loaderhax and be sure not to bring up piracy there). Assuming you're firmware needs to be downgraded to be exploited, you will likely need to perform a hardmod. There are many online guides for this but unless you are highly experienced with soldering circuitboards (like I am not) I would strongly suggest you stay away from it. Since I was in the same situation I'm describing, I sought out a user by the name of /u/pbanj_. This guy is a long time contributor to the /r/3dshacks community. You can read his post about his hardmod service here. TL;DR: if you are in the US you can send him your system and $45 and he'll get everything set up for you, no hassle. Just make sure you follow his instructions in that post very carefully. You can contact him through pm. I would expect you to be skeptical of his service because I was too but I just got my system back today and everything is absolutely perfect, the system looks and runs exactly as before. Also, he's really fast about getting it sent back to you and his price is the best I was able to find. I highly recommend him. Anyway, once you get your system back, you can visit [google "3ds freeshop"] and [google "3ds title keys"] and follow this video to get everything set up. The only slight deviation I had to make from that tutorial was instead of putting the encTitleKeys.bin in the freeShop folder he tells you to make, I had to put it in 3ds/data/freeShop I believe (although if that is wrong, the freeshop app will tell you where it needs to go when you open it). From there, all you need to do is go into the freeShop app, search for the game you want, and hit download. I don't know if every single physical copy game is on there but I just downloaded a ton of games and I didn't find a single one that wasn't on there. If you follow the same steps as me, it is basically foolproof. It's cheap, quick, and you won't get banned even if you play those downloaded games online. You can also download a ton of other homebrew applications from there (/r/3dshacks will be a great resource for this part). The only other expense would be getting a nice, sizable sd card to hold all your new games. This is the one I got. I'd recommend going for the 64gb because it can hold (obviously) twice as much as a 32gb and is going to have faster load times than a 128gb. So that is, in maybe more detail than you would like, the entire process I went through. It may seem complicated but it's actually quite simple. Again, /r/3dshacks is a great resource but don't mention anything related to piracy there. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps!

edit: I originally thought this was a pm so I removed some direct links so this post doesn't get removed. You should still be able to find everything pretty easily though.

I can tell you it works great as a desktop replacement because that's EXACTLY what I did!

I run mine with two external monitors using this DP hub:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HK8V5KE/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

...and I also have this USB hub:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJU0K2Q/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1

...which has a built-in gigE port. I also picked up a 64Gb uSD card for a little expanded storage:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007WTAJTO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

On top of that, I picked up a 1Tb external USB3 HD from Best Buy for around $50, though I'm not actually using it now.

I of course have a proper keyboard and mouse attached. The only thing missing from the equation is the docking station, but that's pre-ordered.

Yes, the whole setup was pricey (around $1700 all-in for the 256Gb i5 model, plus $200 for the dock later) but it's allowed me to replace my desktop AND laptop that I sometimes used with one very portable and capable package. I'm VERY happy.

I use it primarily for various forms of software development, which tends to be more demanding than typical use... I can tell you it has performed flawlessly in this role for me the past few weeks. Everything I've thrown at it so far has worked as expected and with excellent performance. I've done some video editing on it too and that's been fine as well.

It's also not bad for the somewhat limited gaming I do. I still play the original Halo and Postal 2, but nothing more demanding. I've run all the 3DMark demos on it too and it perform well up until about two versions ago, so my take is if you're looking for games no newer than about 2-3 years ago you're going to be fine, anything newer might not work out as well (at best you'll likely have to crank settings down). If you want better gaming I'd suggest the i7 is what you want... better GPU in addition to the CPU bump. I originally planned to get that but I got impatient :) The i5 has been fine for me though.

u/CSSFerret · 9 pointsr/CCW

Sure. I have tried it out in day and night, and the video quality at 1920x1080 is awesome in the day, and good at night. It's still pretty dark on rural roads with the exception of what's lit up by the headlights, so it's not perfect. I read during my research that, unless you want to spend $300+ this is as good as it gets for night-time recording. On city streets and other well lit areas like parking lots the night recording is great.

The camera and mount are incredibly light, almost to the point of feeling fragile, but I haven't had any issues. The suction cup has one of those levers, and has not come unstuck from my windshield. The camera attaches and detaches from the suction cup mount by sliding on.

It comes with USB, HDMI mini to HDMI output, and car charger cables (I purchased from this seller on ebay, which took about two weeks to ship out of Hong-Kong, but I was wary of counterfeit products from Amazon sellers). The USB cable is standard mini, and is pretty short so you may need to swap it out. Mine reaches my cigarette lighter just fine (with a 12v to USB converter). The battery seems to be crap, so expect to have it plugged in while recording, which is perfect because it turns on automatically and starts recording when you plug it in, and there is a setting to have it auto power off after a few minutes without direct power.

It has settings for different resolutions (including a lower resolution at maybe 1280x720? not sure) with 60fps vs 30fps at 1920x1080. There are also settings for motion detection (car is bumped in the parking lot), wide dynamic range, infrared lights (I hear these don't really help), auto-shutoff (power disconnect) time, auto-screen-shut-off (still recording) time, etc. I haven't really fiddled with the options much, as it works pretty much out of the box.

You will need a micro SD card. It says it only supports 32GB, but if you buy a 64GB (and maybe 128GB, haven't tested this myself) micro SDXC card and format it to FAT32 with a program like guiformat32, it will allow the camera to record to all 64GB of the device (actual capacity found is something like 59.2GB). I got this one from Amazon.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope that helps you decide.

****Do any of this at your own risk or hire a professional to do it for you.***

Here are the parts I ordered to put mine together. I'm posting this bc of PMs.

Mobius or [Cheaper Mobius but longer wait from China] (http://www.banggood.com/Mobius-Action-Camera-1080P-HD-Mini-Sports-Camera-Wide-Angle-Edition-p-917817.html) I wanted the Wide Angle Lens for a better shot

Capacitor You don't want the battery sitting in the sun. A capacitor can handle it. So you replace the battery completely with this capacitor

Windshield Mount My mobius came with a mounting bracket that fits on this mount. The mount itself is very small, but the 3M sticker is very strong.

Hardwire Kit When hard wiring this in to the car via fuse box, this knocks the voltage down from 12v to 5v, which is what the camera needs. I used some wire strippers to expose about 5" of the red and black cables. Then stripped about an inch off each cable to expose the actual wire. The red wire goes in to the add-a-circuit mentioned below, then you crimp it closed with pliers (wasn't super easy, I must be weak). You partially unscrew a metal bolt that is attached to the metal car frame as a ground ( I used the one on top of my fuse box).

USB to Mini-USB This connects from the hardwire kit to the camera or 90 degree elbow mentioned next, for a better angle. If you are setting up the auto record when external power is on, which is what you want to do for a dash cam, you need to cut a piece of electrical tape width-wise and cover the two middle pins inside the USB cable. This is because the two middle pins (2 and 3) are data pins. Leaving those exposed makes the camera think its connected to a computer and will only do data transferring. By covering them, it only get power from pins 1 and 4 and doesn't think it's connected to a computer and will actually record.

Right Angle Mini-USB to Mini-USB Adapted This just helped keep the USB cable from sticking out too much (better angle)

Add-a-circuit This is the ATO (bigger fuse), but I ended up using the ATM (Mini) because my car has both and the fuse I wanted to use ended up being a Mini. It'd be best to look through your fuse diagram and find something non-vital (meaning don't tap in to a fuse that controls ABS or airbags, etc) and switchable (meaning it only comes on when the car turns on. You don't want the camera running 24/7), figure out what type of fuse it is, and buy that size. I ended up getting my new add-a-circuit (Littlefuse) from Oreilly auto parts for $6.99 and it came with 3, 4, 7.5, and 10A fuses. Also take note of the amperage (Never use a higher amp fuse than your add-a-circuit supports because the wire gauge may not support it and melt/burn. When adding the circuit, I removed the original fuse from the fuse box, a 10A fuse and put it the first slot(my add-a-circuit supports up to 10A) and for the 2nd slot, I used a 3A fuse because the camera and radar don't draw much. You don't want to use a higher amp fuse than necessary. Also, in my car 2011 JettaSportwagen, the add-a-circuit points down or it doesn't work. Make sure it's plugged in the correct direction or it won't do anything

32GB MicroSD Card Works fine, just make sure to format it through the camera.

Unofficial but awesome Mobius Configuration Tool Use the tooltips(hover over each option) to figure out what each things does. I set mine to autorecord when external power or the button are pushed.

You can find a lot of info here: dashcamtalk.com

To summarize the connections are:

Choose a fuse from your car's fuse diagram (non-essential and switchable), pull it, place it in the correct slot of the add-a-circuit (don't go to higher amps than is supported), plug in a fuse from the add-a-circuit kit in to the other slot to protect your camera (I used a 3A), strip the hardwire kit's cables mentioned above, put the red cable (+) from the hard wire kit in the the red end of the add-a-circuit and crimp it closed, attach the black cable (-) to a screw attached to the metal car frame, tape the two middle pins (2 and 3) in the USB cable with electrical tape, plug the USB in to the female USB on the hardwire kit, run the USB cable from the fuse box around the edges of your cars trim, up by the rearview mirror, attach the right-angle mini-usb adapter, choose where you want to mount the camera (make sure to check using the USB plugged in and camera mounted to the mount, in case it bumps the rearview mirror) (I held it on the windshield about where I thought I wanted it (to behind and to the right of the rearview mirror and took some test footage, watched it on a computer, decided it looked ok, pulled the sticker cover and attached it), clean your windshield with glass cleaner, attach the mount.

Pat,

Order Number: #20837 here. I've been trying to reach you unsuccessfully since April 19th. Please reply.

Original e-mails:

Me:

Pat,

Thank you for getting back to me, these did arrive shortly after your email. I am experiencing some issues though. I wasn't able to get one of them working so I removed it and tried the other with some success. I'm able to see the expanded storage and use it some of the time, but more often than not the system will lock up not allowing anything to be done with it. Is this an issue you've run into at all?

I'm going to try the other one on a different system but if that won't work can I send this back for a replacement?

Thank you for your time.

You:

Yeah I apologize, this is something that happens with some cards. I've dumped at least 40 hours into this issue and as far as I can tell it's only an issue with larger cards, especially SDXC cards. I've determined that there's something wrong with the way Hakchi2 prepares the system for SD compatibility. I've been in close talks with the devs and have supplied them with hardware so they can test. They are able to replicate the issue, so it's really a matter of time until we find a solution.

Since you've confirmed you're having the same issue, can I ask when you purchased your system? I'm having a hard time nailing down which systems are affected, whether it's a certain release line or across the board.

Once a solution comes out I will be sending a message to anyone who has bought a Super Storage and notify them to update to the latest version of Hakchi2.

Thank you!

Me:

Pat,

This system was just recently purchased. As for the other board, I did install it into another SNES classic and it acts the same as the first. It will flicker a bit but eventually go dark. I did swap the SD board and both are fine, is there any way I can send this back to get a replacement/refund? While one does partially work and as you've stated, is being worked on to overcome the issues you're having, I may not be able to use the other one since it was for a friend.

FYI this is the SDHC card I purchased. It was the smallest one I could find that was a decent price:

I made this Pi controlled irrigation system. The goal was to make it as user friendly as possible. It is not finished yet. I had to get a working proto going as soon as possible because I moved to a different state and my parents are selling this house. Not to mention fall semester starts on Monday. I plan on working on this as much as possible on my free time and then make a guide and share my code with everyone so others can benefit from my work. If you want my current code and want to improve on it please PM me. Also, I would love it if you shared your version with me as I will implement it into my code. I want to share my best with everyone.

P.S. I did not document my code at all. I mainly hard coded all of this in the past few days since I was limited on time. I am also a noob on Kivy and this is my first big Pi project.

Edit: Below are the hardware

Landzo 7 inch touch panel - 40.88

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B - 39.99

32 GB flash - 15.69

DS3231 RTC Clock Module - 5.99

4 channel relay - 6.99

Uxcell enclosure - 9.99

M2.5 hex spacer screws - 9.98

Modified internal panel - 8.30

Total: 137.81

PS. Definitely could be cheaper. For me it sure was because I had some of the parts already available that came in a some sort of kit.

u/iPhone2Android · 1 pointr/RetroPie

It's better to buy the parts separately. You'll need the following:

The Pi, obviously:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CMC50S0?pldnSite=1

A MicroSDXC Card if you don't already have one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DOB6YQA?pldnSite=1

A power supply:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZX466R/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_1_w

A USB Keyboard if you don't have one lying around:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WWDMZQL?pldnSite=1

Controllers - there's tons to choose from. Depending on which games you plan on playing. If you want to do 8-bit and 16-bit games, an SNES style controller is probably best, that would work for obviously SNES, but Genesis or NES games as well. If you don't mind wires, go with the Buffalo SNES USB Controller. If you want to go wireless, go with 8Bitdo. The 8Bitdo also gives you few more options in terms of colors, so you get get one that looks like an American SNES controller with the purple buttons, an international SNES controller with rainbow buttons, an NES style controller with an SNES button layout, etc. Just don't cheap out, you'll see some SNES USB controllers on Amazon for dirt cheap, but they're terrible. Either get the Buffalos or the 8BitDos, or if you have an original SNES controller, you can get an USB adapter for it.

For Playstation or N64 games and anything newer, you would need a controller with more buttons and analog sticks. Again, you have tons of options, you can get Dualshock, X-Box 360, or Wii U Pro controllers, plus Logitech has some controllers that also have the right amount of buttons. These controllers can also be used for older games if you only want one set of controllers.

As for the case, you have tons of options, just search Amazon and see what case fits your style. Just be sure it fits the Pi 3.

Oh, and finally, you'll also need an HDMI cable if you don't have one.

Once you get all that, setting it up is rather easy. It seems intimidating, but I'm a total newbie when it comes to tech stuff, and I was able to get mine up and running without any major hiccups. If I could do it, I'm sure you could. It is pretty easy if you just follow instructions. And if you get lost and need help, you can always post on Reddit and someone will be willing to help out.

u/Tuscan_Computer · 6 pointsr/WiiHacks

First off, read my info here against utilizing a flash drive for maintaining your softmod. You do NOT want your only NAND backup on that thing if it fails.

Besides this, my best recommendations are:

  1. Use a portable SSD over a traditional portable HDD.
  2. A great portable SSD that I would recommend is this one. It's a medium-sized 256GB SSD that's around $45. If you're interested, their page also hosts a 1TB drive for $119 but that's completely up to you.

The reasons I'm recommending a mid-triple digit megabit transfer rates are not for your Wii or even future Wii U system, it's for backup ability and higher transfer speeds to copy from a PC, or other device with extreme ease.

My next recommendation is a C10 ultra speed SD card averaging in at 128GB. With a micro to standard SD card adaptor, you can even use a mobile device to begin softmodding your Wii via Letterbomb. Check it out here

The reasoning for such an unnecessary amount of space for your SD is for the predictable inability to utilize the GameCube's Nintendont software. Pretty common to have this fail in various areas.

Software recommendations: Wii Backup Manager (x86/x64). This will be helpful for back and forth compatibility between your pc (if you have one), and your Wii. Without it in front of me, I can't remember the GameCube iso prep tool for expanding and shrinking isos, but if you're interested in that I'll pull that data from my old external for you to utilize (of course if you decide to play GC games).

Hardware recommendations: simply get a GameCube controller. Though it's hard to spot an official GC controller on Amazon for a decent price, it's worth searching.

I've had my Wii modded for almost 6 - 7 years and have played it forever. Before that, I had another Wii that I had modded for 3 years. I've never had more fun until my Wii U came in the mail a few days ago.

    Hope this helps! ✌️

So much awesome here!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007KFXIDE/ref=aw_ls__5?colid=7CWYXJ1UUUS5&coliid=I470A7VTO4OVI&vs=1 is something I need. I currently have no expandable storage for my phone so I have to be real careful with pics and videos of my kiddos.

For the under $20, would love this to read to my boys. My husband and I both loved this book as kids http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0060572345/ref=aw_ls__10?colid=1XBDHCB7ELEOA&coliid=I2D46YYD2FJCA0

C'mon...gimme.

You both look extremely lovely today by the by :)

ETA: Just realized the double post, whoops! All clear now :)

u/downshiftnow · 2 pointsr/Surface

Read speed wise, most microSD cards are comparable so if that's your only concern, the 200gb SanDisk Ultra is your best bet. If you care at all about write speed, you should look elsewhere. Also, be wary of UHS-II spec cards that claim 150mbps read speed (along with a laughable 20mbps write) that require an adapter to achieve such speeds such as this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U77V5KU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_dp_5BxzybEV9MBMT

If you're looking for the best microSD hands down, it's the Samsung 256gb EVO+. MSRP is $249 and Amazon has it for $139. Quite the bargain. A ton are in the wild considering that many people such as myself chose this as the freebie for purchasing a Note7 (or S7/S7 edge). https://smile.amazon.com/Samsung-256GB-EVO-UHS-I-microSDXC/dp/B01JNGCWHU/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483139819&sr=1-6&keywords=evo%2B+256

If you're looking to spend a bit less and can do with half the storage, the Samsung 128gb PRO Select is your next best bet. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01DOB6YUQ?ref=emc_b_5_t

Both of those cards are rated at 90mbps write and read with real life usage hitting within a couple mbps of that.

the best place will be online on amazon.com or people on this subreddit may point out places that are having especially good deals, right now this usually applies for the hero 3 black.

Depending on which camera you get there are certain micro sd specifications. If you plan on getting the white I believe you need a class 8 or above but considering the deals available for the newer models I would advise against this.

Getting the Silver you should get any micro sd that's class 10 I think this was the best deal when I got mine.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007XZL7PC/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

for the black you'll need again any class 10 but avoid using sandisk as there have been some problems where the gopro limits the bitrate for the very high resolutions.

For the black + you'll need one of the micro sd cards specified on this list

http://gopro.com/support/articles/software-update-release

you can find micro sd cards in store at best buy or radioshack or office depot but they will be more expensive than they will be online, and if you need to get one of the micro sd cards specified on the list, youll probably have to buy it online (I didnt see any in store).

If your getting the black or black+ this is the micro sd I got

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009SK57ZQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

let me know if theres anything else, best of luck

u/nzana · 2 pointsr/computers

I would say if all you're doing is learning programming, picking up something like a raspberry pi (Vilros Raspberry Pi 3 Basic Starter Kit, Black Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DMFQZXK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_IX0vybT6PS3R4 + some sort of micro SD card like SanDisk Ultra 8GB Class 10 UHS-I MicroSDHC Memory Card with Adapter, Grey / Red, Standard Packaging (SDSDQUAN-008G-G4A) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M55C0VU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FY0vybA14CAK5) is your best bet. The rest of your money can go into programming classes. If your interested in more courses, khanacademy.org has my favorite HTML + CSS + JavaScript courses, and upskillcourses.com just made their Ruby on Rails course free. Just saying, that's an amazing load of information for free that you can do all on your raspberry pi.

There's going to be a lot of handwaving in this calculation, but the number is going to be huge no matter what. You can currently buy data at about 256 Gigabytes per gram on Amazon.

The solar system, from a mass perspective, may as well just be the sun. Which ends up being about 2x10^30 kg. Assuming you spend about half the energy just converting the mass into microSD cards, we are talking about 10^34 microSD cards. Which is 2.5610^36 Gigabytes

There's no great way to put this number in perspective. The closest I can come is that the NSA Utah Data Center is designed to store data on the order of
ExaBytes. In those terms, the Solar system could be made into 2.56
10^27 NSA Datacenters
worth of microSD cards. All data ever stored digitally was estimated at 295 Exabytes in 2011. Even if we pad that up to 1000 by 2017, we are still looking at 10^24 times more data than has ever been stored by humans.

But at least there's a small way to appreciate that number without understanding it. 10^24 happens to be the weight of the earth in kilograms. So if you can imagine just how massive the entire planet is, how many shovelfuls it would take to dig away the entire Earth, you're starting to understand just how much data we are talking about.

TL;DR: *2.5610^36 Gigabytes** worth of microSD cards. =)

Man... I wish I could be of more help.

As far as the ROM... I've had it for years so I honestly don't remember. The site I used back in the day was pretty cool but I think they removed their Nintendo ROMs a while back.

I wish I did something fancy, but I didn't. It was just a clean RPi 3 and RetroPie install (4.1) on my new Pi with a wired PS4 controller, I think I used the Rice Plugin, my SD card is the Samsung EVO Plus (I was running the ROM off the EVO plus), and ummmm I think that's it. I wish I could be more helpful.

ETA: If I can be of more help, just let me know. Goldeneye was the game I went to first as it's an all-timer, so I don't mind helping out.

>So I've got this charger. It's a new charger, cable all looks good and is about 1.5m long.

That looks like the official power supply and I trust that seller not to sell fakes.

✔️ Power OK

>This SD Card

✔️ SD Card OK

>unplugged the fan ... external drive is self-powered via AC

✔️ Peripherals OK

>I haven't overclocked the Pi myself, and a arm_freq gives me 1400.

✔️ Clock probably OK

>I'm on the LibreELEC 9.0.1.

✔️ That seems to be the latest. It's still possible something could be messed up on your install. If a fresh image doesn't resolve the problem, you could try rolling back one version to LibreELEC-RPi2.arm-9.0.0.img.gz.

>I forgot to mention that when you power back up, it has updated the library with the new media!

⚠️ That's odd. Does it completely finish the library update, or just part of it?

>it doesn't crash when the external drive isn't plugged in

⚠️ That seems like a strong indication that the USB drive has something to do with it, but I can't imagine what. It has its own AC power adapter, so it probably isn't pulling voltage down when it spins up. If the drive isn't too full, would you consider reformatting it? I'd be interested to know if it behaves differently after formatting as a different file system, like ext4. You can go a step further and wipe out the whole partition table. I think LibreELEC should have the commands you need in order to format a drive from the terminal/ssh.

First of all: Screen Protector. Once it's on you never notice it, doesn't hurt to get that extra safety!

I've bought 10 games so far, and I'd say get all of these because I have enjoyed them. BOTW, Splatoon 2, Sonic Mania, Rayman Legends, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (assuming you like DBZ,) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament DX, Street Fighter 2 Ultra, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and Yooka Laylee.

If I had to pick 3 for you to get to start out then I would pick Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I think that's enough variety to keep you busy for awhile.

A carrying is always a good thing, I'd recommend This case because it's the one I use and does its job.

Accessory wise I have joycon grips which are AMAZING when playing with one joycon.

Also, the grip it comes with is trash. Get the Power A Grip it feels A LOT better in your hands.

As for SD Cards, it depends. I have a 32GB SD card. I mainly buy physical games, The extra space is for screenshots and videos, and download only games, like Sonic Mania, Yooka Laylee, etc. If you're going for digital only then get a 256GB. Sure you won't use a ton of space now, but you might a few years down the line. Also, do NOT get the official Nintendo ones. They are a RIP-OFF! Here are some nice alternatives that will get the job done for A LOT cheaper: 32 GB 64 GB 128 GB and finally 256 GB

If you have any other questions feel free to ask OP, and other (potential) switch owners!

Quick edit: sorry that some links won't be put with the text, no idea what the issue is

As someone who has recently spent a lot of time researching SD cards for a new GoPro. Allow me to save you a lot of time.

Don't bother with anything less than class 10. Anything lower will not work.

Avoid Sandisk, they work fine for some people, but lots of people have issues with them.

A single 32GB card will provide more shooting time than a single battery will give you, so if you don't have extra batteries and don't plan on getting any, 32GB is fine. However, extra batteries are relatively cheap, so I opted to go for 64GB.

Long story short:
This is the one I went with

That is about the best bang for you buck your going to find.

There are a few (slightly) better cards out there, but they are over 100 dollars.

Hope this helps.

My response is probably tl;dr, lol. But I made the response more detailed because of your continued interest and because I wish I had this info available to me prior to purchasing dashcams.

Have you had any overheating issues? No, never had this issue with the 55's and I used to drive rideshare on average of 30+ hrs per week in the scorching summer months of LA. Although, I don't know for certain if the dashcam 25's had a notification that states "overheating" or something like that; however, my 25's did fail repeatedly and may/may not have been as a result of me not using the original manufacturer charging cables. Having a dashcam from a reputable manufacturer, like I commented before, has its advantages like customer service, firmware updates, replacements, reputation etc.

Example: When my 25's failed, Garmin stiffed me by sending out refurbs and those had the same issues. So, I played my hand by going through the Dept of Consumer Affairs and the District Attorney's office because they would fail mid-drive and so I stated this was due to poor manufacturing and dangerous as it is a distraction and failure to record in case an incident did occur. They contacted Garmin and I got a call from a personal number of a Garmin rep that does damage control. I sent them the failed 25's and after they tested them, they sent me brand new 55's free of charge. Of course, I had to show them proofs of purchase of the 25's.

Do you have lane departure and forward collision turned off because of false readings? I do not have it switched off. Whatever helps keep me focused on the road is helpful. You may think, "well, it takes your focus off the road", but I don't really look at those notifications; I only listen for them. I use them to let me know that something of crucial importance is happening in front of or around me and so I focus more acutely on the road rather than the notifications themselves.

I've never tried other dashcams outide og the Garmin 25 and 55, but, whatever dashcam you are going to go with, make sure you do not plug them into the basic usb charging ports. I've personally had issues with those ports not providing enough power and the dashcams failing as a result. My '14 corolla has only 1 lighter port, but I have 2 dashcams and my phone plugged in and passengers phones when I used to drive rideshare, so I bought this to remedy the issue and haven't had problems since: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HMYV7G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I haven't tried hardwiring them into the car's fuse box. Maybe i will, maybe I won't. Don't know as of yet.

Also, dashcams have a high overwrite frequency that lends to reduced life spans/reduced memory of sd cards causing them to suddenly stop recording mid-drive, so go with these and they should remedy that problem: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B9KTLJZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Imo, as driver distractions have increased over the past 5 years with smart phones, in-car apps, etc, dashcams are crucial for everyone. Think about it, as driver accidents go up, insurance companies profits go down as a result of them having to fork over money for repairs, so they are constantly trying to absolve themselves of financial responsibility by concluding that both parties are responsible for collisions, therefore, reducing their expenses as a result of insured parties paying their deductibles. If drivers had video evidence, i.e. dashcams, drivers would instantly save on the cost of their dashcams in case of collisions. Car manufacturers may eventually build dashcams into cars as a result of consumer demand, but they'd face some backlash from insurance companies because of potential collusion. I think I'll post about this just for fun.

on a side note. your most inexpensive way to get playing third strike while learning the programming part, before making a big commitment to the cabinet parts would be to buy the raspberry pi (canakit) and hook it up to a TV until you have the software where you want it. Then you can build a cabinet around it and you know it will work.

if you want to go this route you will need

RP3 canakit

SD card you dont need one this big but it will allow you to upgrade your library forever. I bought 3 cards on the way to this one. Should have got the big one to start

I noticed you said Lorries. Are you from the UK? Because it might not be worth the extra to go for some brands over others if they're harder to get or more expensive. The ones I listed are generally considered to be reliable. I think Transcend is seen as tops, I use Adata Premier Pro because they're easier to get at a reasonable price here in Canada.

Edit: looks like the best price currently on AMZ UK is the Sandisk 32GB Video Monitoring card at £16, Amazon Link. Followed by Adata Premier Pro at £26 - Amazon Link. I honestly don't know if there's a benefit to one over the other since they're both endurance cards. YMMV with any card.

I'd give some of those a try and see how it goes. Also maybe consider setting your cams to 720p since your cards will last longer (and record for longer on the same card). or If you have 1440p cam try 1080p mode.

OG Vive with TPCast here too!

You'll need to use "Open TP Cast" to have wireless Mic functionality.

It's what I use and more importantly it also has huge performance benefits over the normal TPCast software.

Basic Guide:

1.) Buy a $5.79 16GB Class 10 Micro SD card from Amazon then download and load the latest TPCast software onto it. Also, install the latest OpenTPCast Drivers from the same site.

2.) Use a small Phillip's head screwdriver to quickly take apart the receiver from your TPCast and swap the SDCard out for your newly loaded one. (Keep your old MicroSD, in case you ever need to go back)

3.) Download VirtualHere and pay the one time $25 for your OpenTPCast key(which you will get in email afterward). Open VirtualHere and paste the key you bought into it.

4.) From now on (to start VR) you just start "VirtualHere", wait about 5 seconds until it connects to your TPCast and shows your Vive and controllers "In Use"(if they dont show "in use" you can right click each one and click "Use"). Start SteamVR and play as normal. ("VirtualHere" just takes the place of your old "TPCast" software which connects to the TPCast/OpenTPCast prior to starting SteamVR).

Benefits:

  1. Noticeably better framerate and also no "gray screen" moments during gameplay (which sometimes you may get on the normal TPCast).

  2. Mic works flawlessly!

Note: Front facing camera still doesn't work, as normal with TPCast

P.S. Do NOT "Backup and Flash" the original SD Card from your TP Cast! (Save your old one which can be swapped back into it at any time.) The software on your original Mirco SD is specific to your device and can NOT be retrieved/re-loaded to go back.

The new $5 Class 10 16GB Micro SD is a cheap zero-risk choice and also performs better giving you a better experience, no slow-down of framerate and gets rid of "grayscreens" or loss-signal crashes forever.

Here's the full guide I used which will walk you through it in no time at all.

If you have any questions, shoot me a message and I'll help walk you through it.

So what's the best deal on the camera and memory card? I imagine since the product is brand new it'll be pretty much the exact same from everywhere, right?

This short video will explain the pitfalls encountered if trying to catch a vandal in the act using a dashcam.
http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2013/6/23/q-which-car-camera-is-best-for-catching-a-vandal-in-the-act.html

However, I understand that you want to do something so I'm going to suggest the cheapest method I can think of which may or may not work, but you might get lucky.

I would get A118C dashcam, a 128GB memory card, and a portable powerbank.

For the memory card I suggest this: https://www.amazon.com/PNY-128GB-MicroSDXC-Memory-P-SDUX128U160G-GE/dp/B00W77C1W4/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1466817385&sr=1-2&keywords=128gb+micro+sd

You will need to format the card to fat32 using the free utility such as this http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/guiformat.exe and the card will give you approximately 18hrs of continuous recording. Do NOT format the card with the native computer program.

For the powerbank you could get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/PNY-10400mAh-PowerPack-Portable-Rechargeable-P-B-10400-24-S02-RB/dp/B014M91EOA/ref=sr_1_40?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1466817826&sr=1-40&keywords=powerbank

Here's a link to a A118C if you need it: https://www.amazon.com/Spy-Tec-A118-C-Capacitor-Dashboard/dp/B00SK8B47W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466818121&sr=8-1&keywords=a118c+dash+cam

Set the dashcam up where you think it most appropriate, run the power cable covertly to the powerbank which you are going to hide somewhere (glove box, under dash, under seat, etc) turn it on when you park the car and off the next morning. Remember to recharge the powerbank when it's getting low, probably every few days. Good luck.

Every single time I got memory from the Chinese, they will usually sell like 2gb cards marked as 128gb. Honestly external storage is not nearly as much as it used to be. You can get a nice micro sd card off Amazon for not too much. PNY is a good brand, $30 if you are in the US. (Two years ago I paid 50$ for a micro sd card. Also even if you do find a cheap one from China, the write speed & life span may not go that far. Hope, I helped. Cheers!

You should definitely look into a decent MicroSDXC card to store digital games, since many of the games worth playing on Switch are only available on the eShop. Plus, you'll want to take advantage of good sales when they come up.

Be sure to get a card from a manufacturer with a good reputation - there are a lot of phony cards out there that claim to be bigger than they actually are.

Here is a decent 128GB card for $18

Here's a 256GB card for $38

Here's a 512GB card for $71

Hope this helps!

I needed something on the cheap end when I first got my 3DS, so I picked up one of these guys: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-32GB-microSDHC-Memory-Package/dp/B003WGJYCY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1481729298&sr=8-5&keywords=Sandisk+micro+SD+card+32GB

32GB is pretty significant, and since I buy all my games digitally, I'm able to have 8-9 games on the DS without any issue, sometimes more if I'm going back and playing an older game. Fire Emblem Awakening + DLC, Fates +DLC, Monster Hunter 4/Generations and a couple other bigger games were always on the card with 20k+ blocks to spare.

If you need something, or want something a little larger; https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-micro-Memory-Tablets-All-New/dp/B013TMNKAW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1481729403&sr=8-5&keywords=Sandisk+micro+SD+card+64GB I've had great luck with the Sandisk 64GB HC in other electronics (I have one in an adapter in my PSP.)

If you're not a fan of SanDisk, or want to stick with a bigger brand, Samsung makes some great MicroSD cards as well, specifically this which I just picked up for my work cell phone; https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Select-Memory-MB-ME64DA-AM/dp/B01DOB6YQA/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1481729493&sr=1-1&keywords=samsung+micro+sd+card

u/disarmedflea · 5 pointsr/HTC10

I recommend you not to use Adoptable Storage. The card you chose is slow compared to storage chips on the phone and that could cause problems with apps. In specs sheet of most cards, write speed is not even written, which is generally like ~8-10 time slower than read speed. Always check for write speed since you are going to take photos and videos.

If you still want to use Adoptable Storage, go for Samsung ones with UHS-3 like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DOB6YUQ/ref=psdc_3015433011_t1_B01CO48M36

You can also get Evo+, Pro (for general usage, 1080p videos, without adoptable storage) or Pro+ ones but those looks like discontinued. Evo Select looks like the new series.

But you can save your photos directly to SD card even if you do not use Adoptable Storage, but still recommend to get a UHS-3 card minimum.

Also, when you first activate your phone, you should have got an offer from Google. 100GB cloud storage, use that too if you have forgotten you have activated it.

Also, beware that some sellers on Amazon are selling counterfeit cards. Always check that "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com" is written while buying SD cards.

I would strongly, strongly recommend you have one. You can get by without one, but given the pressure you'll be under the last thing you need is to worry about this as well. Your iPad Air might suffice though, particularly if you have a wireless keyboard for it (Logitech generally have good ones) but in order for a tablet to be the best it can be it needs to support the Apple Pen and I suspect yours doesn't.

You can get a decent laptop for like £300 or less. HP is currently selling their HP Stream 14-cm0038na for £199 (and includes 1 year of Office 365 and 1TB OneDrive storage) which is a good deal. It's not particularly powerful (4GB RAM, and only 32GB eMMC storage but it has an SD/Micro Sd storage slot, and you can get a 256GB MicroSD for £37.98 on Amazon) but you'll be able to browse the web, write papers etc. on it. Or with the Apple Student Discount you could get a new iPad Air for £454.80 (£55.00 AppleCare+, £80.40 for the Pencil)

The main downside of not having your own is you'll be relying on access to the public ones at the university library, and particularly during exam seasons that's very far from guaranteed. Plus in general it's just really useful to have one - there's all sorts of barrier you might come up against with an iPad, especially if the public library ones are in use.

u/vonsmor · 1 pointr/assholedesign

Pi 4 is overkill, a 2 would work fine, but I'd recommend a Pi 3 for $34 cause it is better hardware and will probably last longer. I tried a PiHole on a Nano just for fun but the PiHole GUI preformed abysmally.

and don't cheap out on the SD card, splurge and get a $5 - 16GB SanDisk or something reputable. I have about 9 active Pi's now running 24/7 for years and the only problems I ever have run into are due to corrupted or failed sd cards, because I used old crap laying around my office, or the cheapo ones they put in those Pi bundles you see on amazon. All the other stuff in the bundles is fine (power, usb cables, hdmi adapters, heat sinks cases, etc) but the cards always blow.

For a Pihole all you should need is a 16GB micro SD card(8 would work, but good companies don't seem to make them anymore) a micro usb cable for power, and an ethernet cable to attach it to your router. If you don't have a laptop or something with a micro SD slot, you may need something like this for the setup process(setting up the sd card is done on a computer)

The price per gigabyte for flash storage vs. optical disc storage remains as much of a problem today as it was in the N64 era. For a rough idea of the difference, let's look at average consumer prices for a spindle of blu ray discs vs. a high-capacity flash storage device:

http://www.amazon.com/PNY-128GB-MicroSDXC-Memory-P-SDUX128U160G-GE/dp/B00W77C1W4

128GB of flash storage for $30 (an average price of slightly over $0.23/GB), vs.

http://www.amazon.com/Optical-Quantum-OQBDR06LT-50-Blu-Ray-Recordable/dp/B009KXE4VO

about 1.25TB of optical storage for $24 (an average price of <$0.02/GB).

Flash storage remains, to this day, over an order of magnitude more expensive than optical storage per unit of data. Scale that up times hundreds of millions for every game printed and it's easy to see why we're still using discs, and why third parties flocked to Sony in the N64 era. Yes, cartridges have their advantages, but for third parties it's not worth paying literally 10x the price per storage unit - that cuts into their profit margins (especially considering that the size of the average AAA game today is probably something like 30GB minimum).

For that reason alone I sincerely doubt the NX will return to anything like cartridges.

u/chriskmee · 1 pointr/GearVR

This is the one that comes with the S8 (at least I am pretty sure). Only one picture that has speed, and the read/write looked like it maxed at 92/85. One review mentioned around mentioned 82/74, another said 85/72.

I saw one review that mentioned this generation had better read/write than older ones, so your opinion might be based on previous generations of the card?

edit: I would test it myself, but I honestly wouldn't trust my SD card hub plugged into a USB hub plugged into my PC to be the best test bench.

I have the A119V2 and it's pretty great so far - I wish I had actually waited for the A129 to come out because it has Wi-Fi to download videos direct to phone instead of using a computer (i.e. you can show cops the person who hit your car right away or that Biomom was the instigator instead of fiddling with a USB adapter or plugging it into a computer or looking at it on the 1" screen.)

u/spyder93090 · 3 pointsr/gopro

Get a Class 10 MicroSDHC, the Class 10 is the important part; this is the speed at which the memory card can read & write. Too slow (a lower class) and it won't be able to keep up with the HD video that your camera throws at it.

I recommend 32GB at the minimum. This will net you about 4.5 hrs at 1080p/30p.

Edit: I personally have the SanDisk 32GB Ultra Class 10 MicroSDHC. Got it on sale at Staples for $15 when I got my H3B. But $22 is still reasonable IMO. Comes with SD adapter.

Edit 2: In reply to Dubkingben's comment. I am on a Hero 3 Black. The highest I have recorded is 1080p 60p with ProTune on on RAW WB and haven't experienced any cutting out, personally. But obviously, if you plan to record in 2.7k+ or any of the higher-res settings, probably best to go with their Extreme series.

Thanks guys.

I used to recommend E-Prance Mini 0803 or 0805 but it looks like they're not making them anymore. They're great little guys that you could hide behind the mirror and they were available under $100. These days if you're trying to spend under $100 I'd say trying this one.

Some other general rules for dash cams that you should follow:

  • Make sure that it has motion detection so that it saves/locks clips when you get into an accident or whatever.

  • Make sure that it has a capacitor instead of a battery. A parked car in Los Angeles summer heat will get extremely hot and destroy a lithium ion battery. Meanwhile a capacitor will work fine. Dashcams with capacitors are generally made to withstand heat better than those without, they're made with this use case basically.

  • If they don't have internal memory, make sure to get a high endurance memory card made for security purposes like this. A regular memory card will be dead within a year... All flash NAND has a certain number of writes before it's effectively useless, and stand SD cards can't withstand the constant writes of a dash cam.
u/JoeyBlaze · 3 pointsr/PSP

I just recently got one from Ebay, you can try there. I'm sure the preowned from Gamestop are fine as well.

As far as memory..my recommendation is to pick up (2) of these http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-16GB-MicroSDHC-Memory-Class/dp/B001F7AJKI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334935355&sr=8-1

this will work great in the PSP 3000 and will save you alot of money as compared to just getting a 32gb pro duo card.

> Okay, so putting Android OS on it will just make it more efficient/better at multitasking things?

Yes, sort of.

Getting the Amazon cluster of Apps out of the way, and letting pure Android OS take over is your fastest path to efficiency.

But, in fairness to the overlords @ Amazon, they don't generally suck at those kinds of projects.

With only 8GB of internal storage be sure and add a MicroSD card like one of these:

SanDisk Extreme Plus

Samsung EVO Plus

u/tiradium · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS9

In the past maybe but nowadays you wont notice any slowdowns if you buy a fast card like this one

It will also be cheaper and if you really want to store mostly photos and videos I think having removable storage is better overall. Only thing I dont know is the MSRP for 256gb variant but its surely wont be cheaper than microsd card

u/ListenBeforeSpeaking · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have a Samsung 256 GB EVO Plus Card, formatted with the Official SDXC Formatting Utility from the SD Association (SPEC owners).

The SD card formatting tool is recommended by Nintendo and I believe it to be more robust than the Switch itself for large capacity cards (based on forum and reddit posts).

Note: I would not buy any Samsung SD cards unless they are purchased directly through a 1st party retailer (Amazon:Sold by Amazon, Best Buy, Staples, Walmart:Sold by Walmart, Sams Club, Costco, etc). There are very good (in resemblance) fakes on the market.

u/StaysAwakeAllWeek · 15 pointsr/hardware

Those are some nice visualizations.

I've always found the most impressive tech advancement to be digital storage, particularly flash memory and the way we keep finding innovative ways to drastically increase storage density over and over without even shrinking the die. Right now we know for absolute certain that we can increase density 250-fold over the current highest without any new innovations. The thing holding it back right now is cost.

If you trace Flash back to its roots you find it was first available as a 1MB PCMCIA card costing $350 in 1991. Since then cost per GB of flash memory has halved every 14 months without fail. If that rate continues, which seems likely (it's probably even accelerating), 64TB MicroSD cards will be under $30 within 10 years.

If that seems impossible, remember that 10 years ago the biggest MicroSD available was 2gb and cost $100.

Ray Kurzweil and his impossibly optimistic predictions

u/squidthesid · 2 pointsr/vita

The Nyko Power grip is an amazing piece of technology. It's a shame that it's so bulky, since it's hard to carry around, but damn, doe it make the Vita a joy to hold. My battery is broken, so it's just a grip right now, but I love the thing.

39.99 USD is a price point I'm more than willing to pay. Anything more, and I'd be hesitant, but the Vita has budget priced games. Plus, I can just resell the games on Amazon when I finish them up, so I don't incur that big of a price to play the game.

Memory cards are a ripoff, there's no getting around that. Even though I got a 16 GB card for 30 USD at Best Buy, it's still a ripoff, considering how a 32 GB MicroSD card is 25 USD on Amazon, but it's tolerable at that price. I still don't get what Son'y trying to do with its memory card pricing, since they're not selling the damn things, so a price cut is drastically needed on that.

I bought several [PNY 128GB High Speed MicroDXXC Memory Cards] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00W77C1W4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_UsTsybE8JRN7C) that were on post Christmas sale ($19.99) last year. I used them on all of my devices either with adapters or without as needed per device. I neither have had issue with inadequate or degraded video play speed nor with temperature issues. Works great installed loaded with owned media in a Kingston MobileLite where Internet is not available or when you wish to save on data usage. Bought one to test and then ended up buying 12 more while still on sale. Wish they would go back on sale. Perhaps after the holidays. Memory storage devices seem to go on deep discount sale in the beginning of each year.

u/meatwad75892 · 1 pointr/Android

This is also great because microSD cards of 32GB and above have dropped significantly in price lately. When I got my Thunderbolt last year, I think a 32GB was over $100, now it's around $30 or less. I'm convinced it was a pretty good chunk of the $249 on-contract price.

The only caveat would be that if you opt for 64GB, most older phones may not support SDXC.

u/FearlessHS · 1 pointr/techsupport

I don't plan on using it in any devices other than my phone. I'll be downloading a lot of games, movies, and apps. Apps and games don't always like being moved to SD cards.

This is the microSD card I'm looking to get. It seems to be a great card from what I can see. I bought the Samsung Evo Plus and it gets 90+ MBs sequential reads and 90ish MBs writes. I actually have my steam library on it and it's not much slower to load then my SSD, maybe 2-3 seconds at most. It also doesn't affect FPS that I've noticed. I can't say anything about other micro SD but this one is pretty awesome.

u/rezzyk · 1 pointr/nintendo

Not saying we should buy this cause it's expensive as heck, but I am pretty sure this is the card that Nintendo showed during the Treehouse segment. It was definitely a Samsung 256GB something.

Yes. Be sure to read the negative reviews. Many of the reviews also say write speeds are actually much lower than advertised.

A couple weeks ago I narrowed SD card options down to the Samsung 256GB 95MB/s MicroSDXC EVO Select. Looks overall pretty solid to me. A little pricey, but if it's me, I would pay a little more to make sure I get something actually good.

And, here is a helpful review to help spot fake Samsung SD cards.

Files are stored in two locations on the card EVENTS and VIDEO. The EVENTS folder will contain triggered video such as excessive g-forces from a crash or if you press the lock button to save current running video segment.
The VIDEO is everything else and it loops, oldest video gets overwritten when full.

Be careful with the sensitivity settings, if you have the g-sensor set too sensitive it will overfill the EVENTS folder and will stop recording. Video in this folder is assumed to be critical and it won't overwrite them unless you format the card. This is useful in the event that a crash was so severe that you were transported to the hospital and the car was towed to an impound lot. You wouldn't want the video of the impound lot to overwrite the crash video. The sensitivity setting will depend on what type of vehicle you drive and how smooth the ride is. If it says memory is full after a few days you have it set too high. If you don't have anything important saved it is easy to reformat in the settings menu. Once the sensitivity settings are good you won't see the memory full message.

It's not the best dashcam but it is a good value. I wouldn't have considered getting one if it was more that $100. This one is almost a year old and it has so far survived an Arizona summer.

Hey, thanks for the write-up! This is very helpful! I had no idea that there was a difference between SDHC and SDXC, or what the classes meant. I'm looking at the Samsung 128GB SDXC U3 cards, and I see things like Pro+ and Pro Select, and I'm not quite sure what the difference is here, if there even is one. They both seem to be class 10, 95mbps. Any input here would be greatly appreciated!

u/KingdaToro · 2 pointsr/HomeNetworking

Get the cabling done. There's really no substitute. Then, you'll want these...

UniFi Security Gateway router

2-4 UniFi AP AC Lites. Start with one per floor, add more if needed. They work best when ceiling mounted. If you have any devices that support more than two 5 GHz streams, you'll want at least one NanoHD for them to reach full speed.

A switch of some sort, ideally a PoE one. Ubiquiti's is the best choice, but is expensive. You could instead go with a cheaper PoE switch, or even a non-PoE one and use the PoE injectors supplied with the APs to power them. The cheapest way to have both PoE and lots of ports is to get a small PoE switch and a big non-PoE one and connect them together.

Optionally, a Raspberry Pi. This will be for running the UniFi Controller, which manages all the UniFi devices, and Pi-Hole, a whole-network adblocker. You'll need a MicroSD card for it as well.

Possibly a 256gb one is too expensive right now, with the speed expenses needed for playing - at least 60Mb/s, better if 90. I shall recommend you this EVO one (usually the price, but I did see it even under $50).

However, if you can find a 256 good one with price under 70, tell me please.

u/Dalzeil · 0 pointsr/androidtablets

I do plan to get a Micro SD card. I'm planning on buying this one because of the faster read/write speeds.

I got a decent amount of responses when I cross-posted this thread, look here.

This thread told me for sure that USB-OTG is possible with a USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter. However, USB 3.0 to Ethernet seems like it isn't possible at the moment. So while you can connect, you'll need an adapter from MicroUSB to USB, like this one, and then you'll need a USB to Ethernet adapter, such as this popular one.

My only concern about it is speed - I'm hazy on the max speeds you would receive via this method.

I've got Rasbian Lite booting off a Samsung Class 10 Evo Plus microSD card. From initial power-on "rainbow" to an active login prompt is about 26 seconds, 5-7 seconds of which is startup and waiting for a DHCP address for the wifi adapter. This install has minimal services running, although it surely can be optimized a bit further. Not sure how long tunerstudio would take to fire up though. Does it run under a GUI (X Windows)? 10 seconds is pretty quick. How close to that do you need to be?

You could get a raspberry pi 3+ and a 1 - 2TB 2.5 inch hard drive with a hard drive dock that powers via USB.

If the devices in the household will direct play the files, then the raspberry pi will simply serve as a basic NAS and the 1-2TB hard drive should spin up powered from the dock.

For instance:

Raspberry Pi 3+: £32.47 / $42.46

Memory Card for RPi3: £5.84 / $7.64

USB Enclosure for HDD: £7.65 / $10.00

2TB Toshiba 2.5" Drive: £48.19 / $63.03

You'd be looking at £94.15 / $123.11 (i know it will cost different in USA but simply using exchange rate conversion).

It would also take up less space than a single DVD and would possibly hold 71 REMUX 1080p movies. However, you could go for lower quality "1080p" versions and get alot more on there.

I have some spare RPi3's and the above to test this on your behalf :)

Edit: However if you arnt too bothered about size, then buying a second hand PC would be significantly better but the above purely factors in the smallest possible form factor!

Is it a regular SanDisk micro SD card? If so you should consider a faster card like the SanDisk Extreme:

"4K UHD Ready

I'm assuming your card is UHS Speed Class 1 (U1) and Video Speed Class 10 (V10), which are the lower levels common on garden variety SanDisk cards. Here's the type I'm talking about on Amazon:

Make sure you're using an SD Card that is on their list of approved models. I was having trouble with my H7B freezing, not turning on, and difficulty transferring media, but I had a very high quality SD card so I didn't think that was the issue. Finally dropped some money on a card that was on their list, and now my camera works perfectly. This is the one I got. For $25 bucks it's a pretty cheap way to figure out if that's your problem.

My AT&T S9 was upgraded to Androrid Pie two weeks ago. Last week I was on a business trip and took over 500 images while away. Out all of those images, these four were randomly mixed throughout. They are at different times, and even different orientations, but all the exact same file size, so I know there is no chance of recovery. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Since upgrading to Pie I feel like the camera is very laggy, I often would push the shutter button several times until it seemed like it would actually take the picture. I also recall once where I took a picture from the lock screen and it showed the preview in the little circle, but when I tapped it to bring it up full size, it gave me a Toast notification that said something about no pictures have been taken, even though I could see the thumbnail. When I went to the gallery, it was not there, not even a green image in its place. Could this be a bug with the Android Pie update, or an issue with my recently purchased SD card?

This (and a small socket wrench) was literally all I needed:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PVB5L82/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00

It has adapters for most dashcams, and the included wire is thin and long enough to tuck above the windshield and down the left pillar, away from the airbags, then towards the door.

If you open your driver door and look at the side of the dash, you'll see the cover you need to pop off. Use the little spudger that comes with the kit, and it comes right off (pops back in easily later).

Take out the small drawer next to the steering wheel by opening it, squeezing the sides, then pulling. Voila, fusebox. Thread the wire through the opening in the side and into the fusebox area.

There is a yellow 20amp fuse that is linked to the 12v accessories (cigarette lighter, etc). I pulled this one out, plugged in the piggyback fuse from the kit, and put the yellow fuse into the piggyback (the kit comes with instructions on this).

In this pic, it's the yellow 20amp fuse in the lower right:

https://cdn.instructables.com/F2N/7LVH/IHP9001J/F2N7LVHIHP9001J.LARGE.jpg

Ater doing the piggback, you just need to connect the ground. There are some hex bolts nearby, just unscrew one and attach the ground cable, then tie up the rest of the wire and tuck it away. Pop the cover back on, and you are good!

Another tip, you might want to get a heat-resistant memory card if you live somewhere warm. I got one like this: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Extreme-microSD-Adapter/dp/B07FCMKK5X/

See this chart to see what I'm talking about On top of that, if the card is old and has been used often it may have degraded and not perform as well.

I'd look for at least class 10/UHC1. UHC 3 would probably meet any demands you'd ever need for your SNES. They also have A1 and A2 classes meant for Android phones, but they'd work just as well for your use.

SD cards are super cheap nowadays, and you'll get way more memory with more performance out of it, for a fraction of what you paid for that one I bet.

This one is 16GB A1 for $6…!

Btw, I have done some testing with Atto disk benchmark. The EVO+ 256MB is faster than my Samsung PRO 64MB card. EVO+ writes at ~89MB/s, compared to 79MB/s for the PRO card. Both are UHS 3

u/XIIXOO · 1 pointr/Dashcam

I'd personally go 64gb since you can record continously for up to 30 hours before overwriting (depending on fps settings). See this link for breakdown on recording times:

https://www.blackvue.com/video-quality-settings-and-recording-time/

I have these two and they are great. I prefer the Samsung though since I believe they make better cards than Sandisk. Also, you will need to use the blackvue windows viewer app to format to FAT32 before using.

I would personally not go with the Evo Micro Sd card. I'm getting the Samsung MicroSd Pro. Mainly because it uses MLC storage instead of TLC like the Evo. There are pro's and con's for both.

TLC-Allows for a much higher storage capacity.

MLC-Has a greater life span by being able to read/write a greater number of times.

> the idea that a decent SD card is slower than a 5400 rpm HDD is laughable.

you might want to check your data again.

here is a list of micro sd card benchmarks from 2016 https://havecamerawilltravel.com/photographer/fastest-microsd-cards

the fastest micro sd card they tested managed 86MB/s sequential read and 83MB/s random read. average cards on that list, including class 10s were 50 MB/s or less.

here is an Amazon listing for the expensive Samsung EVO card he talked about in the video

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Select-Memory-MB-ME256DA-AM/dp/B01G7L03OS/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1484358997&sr=8-13&keywords=samsung+evo+micro+sd

Samsungs own listing for the product says its capable of 95 MB/s. real world performance is likely lower than manufacturer listing, it always is.

your own link shows that the best sandisk card is rated at 95 MB/s. independent benchmarks show it lower.

here is a benchmark for a 5400rpm hard drive from 2011 - http://blog.macsales.com/11825-when-slower-is-actually-faster

it averaged at 110MB/s.

here is a benchmark for a 10000rpm hard drive, since you claim that sd cards are faster than that.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5729/western-digital-velociraptor-1tb-wd1000dhtz-review/2

it averaged at 213MB/s for sequential read

he is right. only the extremely high end microsd cards can get close to a good 5400rpm hard drive, let alone a 10000rpm hd like you claim.

turns out you are the one who doesnt know what he is talking about

Back to the matter at hand, I wouldnt recommend the one via the link due to it not being sold by Samsung or Amazon. Amazon is rife with fakes and knock off cards so you want to avoid third party sellers whenever possible.

This Samsung EVO Select card is the same capacity and transfer speeds but has a lower minimum write speed, which isnt a huge issue because youre just using it with the Switch and not 4k video or intensive files.

Also, its sold directly from Amazon so you have the best possible recourse if it dosent work as intended.

You'll want one (or more) of these paired with a couple of 16GB microSD cards. It costs about $25 to get 32GB of space as opposed to about $75 for a 32GB MS Pro Duo card.

You can also get this which is just one of those adapters with two 16GB microSD cards included. The availability and prices change on Amazon all the time, so just search for "ms pro duo microsd" to see what the current best deals are.

While it is possible to get 128 gb on a microsd card, those are very expensive per gigabyte. The best memory storage with the smallest size, high capacity, and very low price per gigabyte is a 32 gb microsd card, which amazon sells for 31.98, or about a dollar per gigabyte.
If you want to go up one size, to usb sticks, check out this usb stick. The only thing past the port itself is a metal structure to help you hold on to it.
And going one more size up, to hard drives, you can get a 2tb external hd for just $99. That's just 5 cents per gigabyte.

The head strap ontop of goggles isn't a fun choice while snorkeling. It doesn't come down far enough with the goggles in the way to really stay on tight. It also feels uncomfortable have all that pressure on your head. When I went we used our XShot 2.0 pole and it turned out great. Just wash the pole and case with fresh water and dry after snorkeling. There are better options but for your first time out I'd say start small and buy more if you think you need it the second time out.

You wont need a red filter but you'll see improvements however I cant think of any manufacturers who have on for the Hero3+ case.

You could also get the Bobber mount so it'll never sink.

u/marceriksen · 0 pointsr/Android

Depends on your microSD card reading speed. You'll want to look at the high-range ones to read large 1080p / 3D movies. Here's an example of a class 10 straight from Amazon for reference. Otherwise some of the lower end microSD cards, while they can hold a lot, are not going to read a 1080p file fast enough to make it run clearly or well. Here's an example of a class 4 which will not run those files well.

First of all, let me thank you for such a detailed and well thought out post!

So I've got this charger. It's a new charger, cable all looks good and is about 1.5m long.

This SD Card

This cooling/case I have unplugged the fan, it's too loud. I'm looking for a quiet fan, but the heatsinks seem to have been adequate for now, I think.

My external drive is self-powered via AC, although it is not the best drive, it does work. I can access and play all of the media just fine, it's just that last stage of scanning the library where it all goes wrong. I forgot to mention that when you power back up, it has updated the library with the new media!

I'm currently moving a file over to /storage and I will try scanning library without the external drive plugged in to see if it makes a difference.

I did have a fan plugged in, but it was too noisy so it's out for now. I haven't overclocked the Pi myself, and a arm_freq gives me 1400.

I did think about overvolting. It's something to explore if all else fails.

I'm on the LibreELEC 9.0.1.

So, it doesn't crash when the external drive isn't plugged in and scanning the library, but there is only 1 media file to find.

Before I ask my question, I want to let all know I have done my research to the best of my abilities, however I am terrible when it comes to tech specs, so I am asking. I am going to retransfer my data back from the 2ds XL to my 3ds XL. But before I do, I want to upgrade the SD card in the 3DS XL which is the stock one. I just want something like 8GB or 16GB (I have a lot of physical cartridges). Go online and I find this. However, I am confused on 2 parts.

  1. Does a class 10 mean the console will load faster, load the games faster even if I am using a physical cartridge? (also what does that "I" next to the HC mean?)

  2. So when I want to swap the SD cards, I just stick the new SD card in and do the transfer. Is that correct?

Oh, and if this is a good or bad option for an SD card, please let me know!

Edit: Any thoughts on this brand?

If we throw the issue of gamines that are going to run on it being available on other android devices, it's not so bad.

First off, you can see features like using a micro-SD card instead of proprietary bs like what the Vita uses. (64 GB Announced at $200, 32GB at $85).

Now, a 32GB Micro-SD is going to run you around 20$ and a 64GB Micro-SD around $55

I mean, if you'd like to rationalize the cost there is already 60-150$ cheaper storage.

IIRC, it does have better processing power (Correct me if i'm wrong) than the competition, but IMO it's going to come down to game availability assuming there are no lacks in quality. It does look like nVidia has tried to put as many features as possible into this device, but only time will tell.

The HTC Evo 4G LTE is a great phone with the best display right now (same as the HTC One X). I'd recommend getting a 32 GB or 64 GB to throw in there on top of the 16 GB you already have:

32 GB microSD, Class 10 - $26.49

64 GB microSD, Class 10 - $54.51

The only drawback to the HTC Evo 4G LTE (other than being a Sprint exclusive) is the lack of a replaceable or extended battery. If you are a very heavy user, a PowerSkin case would add about 1500 mAh of battery life, but extended battery cases are NOT known for their reliability.

u/Reebzy · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

You're referencing the D5833, which is the asian market version. This model is a D5803. You're going to want a D5803 for full LTE compatibility in the US. The US version bottoms out at $510, at best. Since there is still a wait list, they bounce between $510 and $600 based on availability. Also, even if I ditch all the accessories, the two-year warranty can only be purchased from Sony direct.

Windows 10 takes up 7gb out of 32gb. Let's round it up to 10gb. Considering OP doesn't play games, 22gb is more than enough space. In addition, you have MicroSDXC. Need more space? How about 128gb more space for $30.

How much space to need to do what the OP wants to do - which is mostly use Internet?

> Your best bet is to buy a refurbished previous generation business laptop.

I don't know why you're telling someone to buy used, old, crappy (not SSD) technology for about the same price (or higher) compared to a brand new and faster machine. SSD on a used laptop for less than $230? Good luck. OP has a tight budget - they can't afford it so they're stuck with HDD, a used one at that.

> Taken care of those business laptops will last 10+ years with incremental battery upgrades.

I manage about 30 of these right now and we're replacing all these with new SSD models because HDDs last 4 years. Battery isn't the problem - it's the wear and tear. If they're business laptops then businesses don't generally care about maintaining them since it's cheaper to replace them once depreciation benefits wear off. So you're stuck with an old, used, scuffed, slow, more expensive piece of equipment with no hint of a warranty and likely have a terrible battery (which would cost $50+)... or get something that's brand new, fast, cheap, expandable storage, under warranty for less.

u/hendusoone · 2 pointsr/Android

Android is capable of much higher than class 6 speeds. Android itself can read and write as fast as the hardware will allow (that is, the SD card itself AND the phone's SD slot). So, it depends on which SD card technology is in your phone.

For exmaple: I've got a 64GB Sandisk UHS-1 microSD in my T-Mobile G2. The phone itself only claims to support SDHC, but this is clearly a SDXC card. Works flawlessly - I can use all of the space, and I get a read* speed of 10+MB/s and a write speed of 30+MB/s according to benchmarks.

So, when buying a SD card for your phone, do a bit of research to see what other people with your same phone are able to run. The published specs aren't always completely accurate.

u/teslrrrrr · 2 pointsr/TeslaModel3

I am curious to see who suggested to you that it's a "flat out lie" when stuff like this exists:

u/Jarlek · 5 pointsr/gpdwin

I did a bit of research on this. The two main competitors for the low profile USB 3.0 usb sticks are the Lexar S45:

https://www.amazon.com/Lexar-JumpDrive-128GB-Flash-Drive/dp/B012PKV7RC

And the SanDisk Ultra Fit:

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-SDCZ43-128G-GAM46-Newest-Version/dp/B01BGTG2A0/

They are similar in price (around 30 dollars). I went with the Lexar because it seemed to be slightly faster in head to head benchmarks and the profile of it is flat. The primary downside when I got it is that it has a VERY bright blue LED that flashes with activity. However, I simply put some electrical tape over it and it almost entirely blocks it.

For SDCards, it seems the fastest performers are the Samsung EVO Plus:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-mc128d-128gb-Uhs-i-Adapter/dp/B0118LR9Z8/

It has the fastest read speed at 80 MB/sec, which is still quite a bit slower than the USB which I usually benchmark at around 150 MB/Sec max, and the internal memory is faster than both, and much better read speed (so prioritize putting games etc that have longer loading times or require writing in the internal memory).

u/3ricG · 1 pointr/galaxys4

Still the 64gb class 10 cards are very cheap. As 'notmynothername' pointed out: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter-SDSDQUA-064G-U46A/dp/B007WTAJTO/ref=pd_cp_pc_0

That is definitely microSDXC.

I have the A129 cams hard-wired ( this Dashoto kit is the best deal ). I take the card out and upload to my computer. I need to get a second card so I don't have to bring the computer to the car or leave the cam without a card.

Be sure to get this card.

The technology is there, it's just a matter of time at the moment. The cards (running at the right speeds) in those ranges aren't far off the market. Samsung have 256GB cards on the market at the moment. Microdia released a 512GB U3 micro sd card a year or so back as well, those they were well expensive.

I'd again ask though, how much did you think the internal memory should be?

You also seem to be overestimating the size of the games a bit. Even breath of the Wild is only in that ~15 GB (I think it's actually a bit less than that) range.

You can use external hard drives as well. If you're like me and manage to corrupt SD cards a third of the time then this may be a better option.

Edit:
You could get an 8GB card with a 1TB HDD for $61.94. Granted it is $20 more but that's almost 10 times as much storage.

Any micro SD card should work. They are super cheap now. Here is an example. $6

The card you linked is a full size SD card. The 3+ black can only use a micro SD. The micro SD version of that card is $59.99: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-Adapter-MB-MG64DA-AM/dp/B00IVPU88U

If the micro SD version was only $35.99 then it would definitely be worth it!

I had the same issue with my card.

This one one.

I did a factory reset, and I also reset the card to use as internal storage and that resolved my issue.
Hope this helps you!

No one had mentioned micro SD cards yet so I'll throw this out: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0118LR9Z8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_rz1UzbGCXJY0D

This is the one I got since it's supposed to have better load times for digital games than other SD cards.

I picked up two 8bitdo controllers and have been extremely satisfied with them. They've also announced two new controllers that will have motion control and vibration.

Ive heard people have had success with an SD card instead of a USB flash drive. Some SD cards are specifically made for dashcams with very high write cycles

In Finland, we can do 60 tons when you have at least 7 axles and a combined length of 25,25m at the most. I'm assuming they fit just fine.

Assuming that the transporting equipment itself weighs ~10 tons, we can use 50 tons just for the cards, which can be 32 GB, we get 3.2 exabytes at the cost of 84.45 Billion USD.

I've been using this SanDisk 128GB card for the last year or so without any issues. My sister got me this Samsung 128GB card for Christmas last year as a backup card, and every time I try and use it I have nothing but problems. The camera (650S-2CH) continuously exclaims, "Check SD card," every five seconds after the first video tries to save.

I've been looking to upgrade to a 256GB card because since I drive 100+ miles per day and can only capture about a weeks' worth of footage. Is this the Samsung card you're talking about? I just don't want to get the wrong one.

Hey just a heads up, you should probably get a high endurance SD card like this. Since the card is written to continuously, it likes to burn SD cards out. Some people have luck with the non endurance, but it seems the endurance ones last longer.

There's probably a max size it's capable of reading. I recommend you trash the new card they sent. They are all low quality and will ultimately fail. I recommend buying a 4-8gb Micro SD card Class 4 or higher.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-MicroSDHC-Standard-Packaging-SDSDQUAN-008G-G4A/dp/B00M55C0VU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487986071&sr=8-1&keywords=8gb+micro+sd

Would this be a superior choice than the select?
