I'm running some generic-Chinese H1 LEDs that I found off of Amazon. The color, brightness, and spread are great, but getting them installed was a bit of a faff. You'll have to get an adapter to fit it into the H1 socket; the LED bulb doesn't have those "teeth" that align the bulb with the socket and that the metal spring holds down, so without the adapter, it's just loose in the socket.

I have these bulbs for my low beams, using this adapter that I shaved down to fit with a dremel. Then I have these for my high beams.

But if you don't want to deal with that headache like I did for LED bulbs, these bulbs from PIAA were great, and lasted well over a year for me; they were still working when I swapped them out for the LEDs.

I'm a big fan of PIAA; I have their bulbs, wipers, and fog lamps across all my cars.

A good daily pad that I recommend are the Hawk HPS; available from TireRack with very fast shipping (one-day depending on where you live). These are an all-around excellent OEM+ pad, with low noise, low dust, and consistent bite. Hawk HP+ are more aggressive but can be daily driven, just prepare for the extra dust; I use these as my track pads.

Stainless steel lines all do the same thing, so unless you're a whore for JDM stuff like I am, the Goodrich lines (which are also on TireRack) are excellent value. As for fluid, Motul RBF660 is everyone's go-to and worked great for me, but I've found Project Mu 335 to be just better overall and cost roughly the same.

They are just slightly thicker but by millimeters. The same effect can be achieved using Strut King's aluminum pedal inserts (just less OG), but I don't think it'll be noticeable as far as ergonomics go. They're really for texture/appearance.

I put a set of these in my b6 Passat about a month ago. They did require some slight modification to the piece that secures them to the headlamp assembly, but it was a very easy install. I am very happy with the results, they look great and are way brighter. Keep in mind that my Passat came with projector style lights, so the bright white might look more natural in mine than it would in the reflector style ones on your Tiguan.

They work really well, and I love the instant response when the brights are activated. They're some of the brightest lights I've used in a car with reflector housings, and I've been really happy with them.

If you get these, just make sure that they are lined up correctly in the housing so that you have a good beam pattern. They have a great cut-off line, almost exactly like stock, so that you don't blind other drivers; you just need to make sure that it's seated correctly and doesn't twist around when you install it. They also don't trigger my "light bulb out" warning system, which is really nice.

I'm still waiting for them to arrive, so I will update this post if they are better. The website says they aren't out yet, but I contacted support and they told me that they're ready and sent me a pair; they just haven't updated the website yet.

Do you live in a city or rural area? If city, I would only upgrade fogs and highbeams, leave the low beams halogen. Philips makes the best halogen bulbs.

LED bulbs don't play as nice with headlights compared to halogen or hid bulbs. They tend to have a less focused beam, resulting in more glare, and equal or less beam distance.

The 2014 Civic has 9005 high beam, 9006 low beam, and h11 fogs.

You can upgrade your highbeam to led, and get that new white led drl, along with a brighter, more floody highbeam.

I have this bulb in my 2006 Civic high beams, and love it. It has a fan, but it's only noticeable when you're stopped, and the radio isn't playing. Plus, it's only on with the high beams. About 2x brighter than stock highbeams, and a little more distance.:

For fog lights, he's a kit off Amazon. I'd recommend yellow fog light lenses, as the lower color tempature helps with rainy roads. Reflects better off wet surfaces. Also looks cool. You will have to do some diy wiring with this kit though. An independent shop should be able to install the kit within a few hours.

For led bulbs, I have these in my car also. Not super bright, but definitely a little brighter compared to halogens. No fan to fail, and are more reliable than halogen bulbs.

I used to own a 9th gen sport and wanted to do the same upgrade as you. If you're willing to splice wires then you can purchase the touring headlights from college hills honda and do that for yourself. however, I'd recommend bulb swaps to all LED and keep the housing, any aftermarket housing imo looks cheap and ruins the aesthetic.

This was a year ago and I’ve done a few upgrades since then. This is a write-up with some links for those interested in it. Hopefully this wall of info might be useful to someone looking to do what I’ve done. It is a headache and a half along with hours of time just trying to find straightforward info for modding these trucks.

Full specs: 2018 TRD ORP w/ KDSS. Bilstein 6112 2.4” lift (5/5 clip settings for KDSS) & 5160 rear shocks. Eibach ProLift rear springs 1”(note: the KDSS models sit about a .5”-1” lower up front in stock.) Super bump kit. OME rear Right 10mm trim packer for lean correction. 275/70/17 KO2 tires. Stock OR Rims. JBA high caster UCAs. Tyger Auto TG-AM2T20148 side steps (for the little wife, to mitigate the tires flinging rocks at the paint and they also help with parking lot door dings)


Lights: The LEDs are Nineo Gen2 for H11 and 9005. It was around $100 total from amazon. They are identical to the Supernova v.4. So if you’re thinking of those, save your money with these.

The DRLs do work fine, believe it or not, and the flicker when in DRL mode is BARELY noticeable and looks kinda cool imo, it’s $50 vs $180 for xenon depots, and I don’t think XDs are $130 better imo. They also do dim. I’ll post more pics and a video of the flicker later when I get the headlights adjusted. If you still can’t stand the flicker the XD LEDs with the DRL driver is the way to go or you can just shut off the DRL mode completely without messing with other lighting functions, this is also a warranty safe and non-permanent solution as you can just push the wire back in if you decide to change your mind. Rubbing, death wobble and suspension: The only rubbing I have is on the front mudflaps at full lock, might modify or just remove flaps completely. No rub on UCAs or body mount.

For grease I use Valvoline VV615, if you go JBA, I highly recommend this 90 degree grease adapter. No mess and super easy. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000G76OMA/

Or you could replace the straight zerk fittings with 45-90 degree zerk fittings.

The rear right OME trim packer that corrected the lean also fixed the steering wheel death wobble some may experience after a lift. So for this particular case I’ll attribute it to a suspension geometry problem. If you still experience the wobble after lean correction there is a bushing to replace the spider bearing in the front left differential, made by ECGS. it’s about $170 for the full install kit with a new cv axle seal. I highly recommend either of these if you’re are finding yourself getting your wheels balanced way more than you should be.

If you want perfect high beam performance you'll need a specially designed housing for LEDs, and they don't come cheap. If you're fine with a bit brighter and whiter light, the Auxbeam LED Headlight Bulbs F-S2 series is good enough in my opinion. They were only $30 for a pair. The lamp only draws 36 W. You probably need the H4 sockets, as is standard on modern bikes.

I had to lower the vertical beam somewhat but in my layman's opinion they're better than halogen. The bright white light makes street signs easier to read at night but the high beam is shorter than with halogen. I've used it on multiple winter night rides in the past 3 months and won't go back to halogen.

The Hikari Ultra LED kit that I bought on Amazon works great. They are plug and play with the Volt's wiring and the driver pack fits into the headlight housing without issue. Really, really bright lights!

I have a 2008 Lexus Es 350 with projector headlights. I installed these bad boys and they commit a wonderful job at lighting up the road and I've gotten compliments from friends on how ridiculous it lights up the road.

Install them, adjust the leds to 9 by 3 like a clock and you'll be good to go. You might need to buy a new inverted dust cap, I had to get one for my Lexus. These LEDs appear pure 5000k white.

You will not blind oncoming traffic as long as your headlights are properly adjusted. Any questions I'll be happy to answer.

I went with the Hikari Ultra LEDs from Amazon. Has a fan built into the back of the bulb so it’s too long to fit the stock bulb cover over it—I’m currently modifying mine so they fit for my 2015. They are super bright and the beam pattern, since we have projector lenses, retain the sharp cutoff line.

KATANA is the brand I went with. Cheap, stupid easy to install, and seems good quality. Have had them for about 6 months now and they are such a massive difference you can't even really compare them to the stock ones. I also drive a Sport and it is so much better driving it at night now. Looks very nice as well.

Part of my job has me drive the perimeter of the building at night before going home to double check for any safety issues or unsecured power equipment, etc etc. I made sure to get a dozen opinions from other workers to make sure I wasn't that dickhead throwing aftermarket LEDs in and blinding oncoming traffic, but nobody has said anything besides the fact that they look much nicer.

They project really far and have a nice clean white light to them. I commute early in the morning and have not needed to use my brights at all since I got these installed.

I bought some LED bulbs off Amazon, been working pretty well once I got the cutoff dialed in. I have the Hikari bulbs for our specific housing, and they have pretty good output for LED bulbs, if a little pricey. Cutoff is dead flat, and there are only minor hotspots.

Be aware you're going to have to adjust the cutoff so you don't blind anyone. On our cars, there's a hole in top of the headlight assembly to access a gear to move the headlight up or down. You can use a Philips screwdriver to adjust it.

The brightness is MUCH better. Compared to these, the stock was like holding a bic lighter in a dark room.

I've recently installed these for my low beams: Kensun LED

They feel high quality, solid with an aluminum heat sink and fan. They plug right in which is a plus. The fit is very tight, but it wasn't sketchy.
This model is not the brightest LED which is good, because I have no intention for blinding everyone. Outward Preview.
However, I'm no electrician & wondering if I should be upgrading fuses to match the compatibility...?

These are what I used on my 2013 TT. They worked really well. I first got the opt7s and had to return them, since they had a scattered patterned beam and blinded oncoming traffic. Make sure what ever you get, get an headlight that has the little metal low beam "half shell" cover like this one. Otherwise be prepared to get flashed by oncoming traffic!

They look great and have lasted about 8 months. Everything fits in the light housing (no open dust caps). The velosters have H11B's. The plugs are a little different between these and the standard H11s. There's adapters out there, or just get a little creative in how to plug stuff in.

This is all the bulbs and stuff mentioned. As a bonus I also pasted some LED license plate lights which look much better than the yellow ish ones that come stock and they’re insanely easy to install. The fogs are a little bit of a pain mainly just to get the cover off. In my case my fingers were all chewed up from trying to pull off the cover but I used a pry tool to pull it off. As for the H7 headlights, one side will be a little harder to get to due to the lack of space but it’s nothing crazy. Enjoy!

I've got the CSC TT250 version, which is similar. If your headlight sucks like mine did, I put an LED lamp in and it's amazing. It'll be a fun ride regardless.

If you are in the city the bulbs burn out faster because you have to keep pressing the brakes. Bulbs usually burn out when turning on.

T4R dot org was my guiding source on this exact same mod; there are a few threads on there that are worth reading (use the sidebar 4Runner Resource Guide here to find your way).

I went with H11 LED Morimoto 2Stroke 2.0s for the low beams, CougarMotor LED 9005s for the high beams, and Alla H16 LEDs for the fogs. Finished the complete install in 30-45 minutes this weekend (fogs took the most time and effort; plenty of install vids for all bulbs on the Tube/internets). My dad loves the output on everything so much that he's looking to switch all his Highlander lights over.

Can't speak to the colored lights or film for anything, and I've noticed a slight flicker in the DRLs but nothing that dissuades me from using them (and they don't appear to operate like reports from others about LED/HID DRLs functioning at high beam power).

I threw LEDs into my Fiesta’s projectors and they blow the stock halogens out of the water, get quality LEDs that mimic the position of the halogen filament and you’re good

You can turn them in the holders and I turned them so the LEDs face to the left and right.
Awesome light production, haven't had any flickering issues, and no one has flashed me saying they are to bright.

I got a pair of LED H11 bulbs, these, to replace my low beams, and they match the running lights very well. They also seem to be a good brightness where I can see far ahead without blinding other drivers.

1. Ugh I hate the weather alerts. I read they are part of the Sirius XM free subscription and that you can't permanently disable them. They allegedly go away when your subscription lapses.

I bought these and they've worked really well. Just put some high quality H4 bulbs in there. So much better than the stock sealed bulbs.

They are fantastic and work perfectly. Also got the T10 cabin lights as a combo purchase for less than a $1. Couldn't be happier with them. The beam pattern isn't to high that it blinds other drivers and they look a hell of a lot better and light up the road a lot more. I've had them for about a month now and drive mostly at night.

So installed my fog lights today. It was as easy as some youtube videos made it out to be and I'm quite happy with the complete look now. They do have a slight gap between the plastic trim and the housing but it doesn't bother me. I did make one stupid mistake that I cannot believe I did not notice until everything was installed. I did not get the fog light switch with the auto headlight option since I did not pay close attention to the ebay listing. False advertising by the seller's first image, but also my fault for not looking at it more closely. In case anyone was curious I figured out how to hook up the LED DRLs. Turns out that the red wire goes to + battery, black wire to - battery and tap the yellow wire into the ENG IGN fuse second to the top right corner. I upgraded my headlights to Auxbeam LEDs and they match the DRL quite better than the Kensun LEDs, which are now being used for the fog lights. The Kensun LEDs aren't as bright and shine a bit more upward from the edges compared to the Auxbeam.

DRLs the plastic trim is not the best fitment. Some of the clips don't hold in place but can easily be held comfortably with the use of zip ties.

I switched everything over to LED and haven't looked back. I use the 6000K Lasfit 9005 for the DRLs

And the 6000K H8 Hikari Ultrasfor my headlamps.

I didn't need to readjust my lamps from their stock location. Lots of light. Love'm.

The DRLs have a little flicker to them but I tried a few different solutions to fix it and none of it worked. Now I kind of like the flicker and feel it actually makes them more safe.

OP just get these

They are largely regarded as the best LED headlight option you can get without spending >$100 and they're not even $50.

Changing the headlight bulbs won't void your warranty.

If you want a white light then you'll have to either swap the bulbs with an LED kit (cheap), or replace the entire headlamp assembly with an LED assembly (expensive).

There are cheaper LED kits than the one I linked but I would be wary of their quality. Replacing the assembly costs more and takes more work, but the light output is much better.

The biggest difference between the bulbs I purchased and the ones you linked are the fans/lack of fans. The ones you linked don’t have fans, but the bulbs I purchased do have fans, so whenever my lights turn on, they make a quiet whirring noise. It doesn’t really bother me though. The ricer in me found it kinda cool when I turned them on for the first time lol.

Only reason I chose halogen was that it didn’t need a resistor like the one mentioned below. I wouldn’t say I choose halogen over led. I converted my headlights from halogen to led because it was simply plug & play. I got these, 6000k for my headlights

Ok, for LEDs you should go with double sided LEDs that matches the same location where the halogen bulb emits light not triple, quadruple, or other aftermarket LEDs with more than two light sources. You can check by counting the number of yellow squares on the LED bulb which contains the actual LED light source.

The best LEDs in my opinion is Hikari Megatron but they have a cheaper option here.

Keep in mind that these LEDs will have a fan that stick out further than the stock halogen bulb harness. If you want to go with another brand then just make sure it is the 9012 bulb size and has only two LEDs. Even for brake lights and turn signals you want the LEDs to match the same light source location as the stock halogen. If you get an LED with ridiculous amounts of LED light sources on it then it might not illuminate the area around you or blind other drivers.

They have an interesting gap down low in the light pattern, (6ft in front of truck or so) but fog lights fill it in.


Full disclosure, I had these lights that were setup for a HID kit. May or may not be different with what you have.

It's not really a kit. It's just the actual R/R from a 2017-2019 Grom. I bought mine from Partzilla. The LED bulbs I used were from Amazon, I had used these bulbs before and know they work really well if you do the installation correctly. I may do a quick tutorial on how to install the LED bulbs correctly too.

Headlight and fog-light set up came with the truck when I bought it is used a few years back.

As far as bulbs are concerned: head and fog.

Here is a link of the ones i would suggest. These are the Ultra ones with greater light output. i have the cheaper ones and i love them. you know the higher you go the worst visibility is. anything higher than 6k is cosmetic only and starts giving worst visibility. and personally its more of a JDM look, but everyone has there preferences.

I would think those would be ok. Maybe they're defective, or just don't work well in a projector housing. If you don't end up figuring out the problem I do really recommend the Katanas for your lowbeams.

I'm a bit confused about the low beam/high beam bit. I guess we need FOUR bulbs for our headlights to cover low and high? I'm used to bulbs that provide both. Plus the fog lights for me, so that's six of these.

I don't know if you've picked any housings yet, but I went with these housings and these bulbs. I originally used the bulbs that came with the housing but the low beam died on one pretty quickly. The PIAAs have hung in there, though.
