Hey everyone, I cringe when I see the cost vs contents of most first aid kits on the market. Too much unnecessary stuff and only the highest priced kits have clotting powder, which I’ve used on the trail for controlling bleeding with large abrasions and deep or tangential lacerations. I put together my suggestions, with an eye toward maximizing usefulness and minimizing per unit cost. IMO this is superior to most kits costing 2-3x more. Light enough for the discernible backpacker, but makes a great gift for family and friends to throw in the car pocket, the boat, ATV, or carry along to kids sporting events. Feel free to add, subtract or substitute to customize your own.

Ever-Ready First Aid Adhesives, assorted sizes, 280ct $6.95 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0179S0IAW
Self explanatory, enough for 2-3 of each size per DIY kit.

Vakly Stretch Gauze: 12 pk 4” x 4yds $7.99 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTQFPA6
1 pk per kit and 4 left over for the home medicine cabinet.

McKesson individually wrapped sterile gauze pads: 50ct $5.17 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002C5P9J8
6 per kit, throw them in a ziploc baggie to protect against moisture.

Woundseal clotting powder: 20 pkts $28.06 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008RUJXR6
Remember that compression alone, when done properly, effectively controls most bleeding. But when a member of your group is on aspirin or other blood thinners, or sustains a nasty cut that won’t stop bleeding, this stuff is awesome.

3M Duct tape: 1.88in x 30yds $3.89 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013B1XHE
Countless uses for the backpacker / camper, from tourniquet, fracture splinting, reinforcement of wound dressings, fashioning a moleskin barrier for blisters, not to mention tent, pack or sleeping bag repair. Grab a few extra straws from your local fast food joint, trim them to 2 inches, then roll up 4 to 6ft lengths of duct tape around the straw. The straw in the middle doubles as a pocket billows for fire starting.

Rensow white petroleum jelly 5gms, 144 pkts: $24.99 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KAGT85M
Lip balm, burn treatment, also apply to rashes, blisters and abrasions to keep gauze from adhering. Doubles as an excellent fire accelerant for bushcrafting. I squeeze some on a cotton ball to use with my tender for catching a spark.

Kirkland anti-diarrheal (loperamide) tablets: 400ct $9.99 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EXPY004
Put 12 per kit and keep the rest for that week-old lasagna that you should have thrown out.

Ibuprofen 200mg tabs: 2x500ct $3.93 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P1NJAJS
Put at least 40 per kit as this is likely to be the first supply used.

Diphenhydramine capsules 25mg, 100ct : $4.99 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00080CKDW
Useful for allergies, insect stings, contact dermatitis, and doubles as a sleep aid for those restless nights in the hammock. 12 per kit should do.

Triple antibiotic ointment 0.5oz 144 pkts: $12.18 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H2T9K3K
6 to 8 per kit should do, and keep the rest for replen.

Ziplock snack bags, 40ct (for storing meds): $2.73 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U9ZFFCY
Please clearly label each baggie using an indelible marker with name of med, adult dose and expiration date. Pediatric dose optional. Individual “gas station” packets are much more expensive but if routinely carried in vehicle this may be a consideration (law enforcement doesn’t like unlabeled pills floating around in baggies).

First Aid Bags (empty), Alazco, 8 bags $32.82 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0182MQ4MU
Highly optional but nice for making your kit look pretty if you’re giving these away as gifts. I double wrap mine in gallon ziploc bags for moisture control.

A printable first aid primer: https://s3.amazonaws.com/yohsresourcelibrary/First+Aid+Quick+Guide.pdf
Certainly not a comprehensive guide, but has some key information like helpful reminders on how to properly perform CPR on kiddos and babies 👶.

u/Somethngclever · 2 pointsr/Hooping

I would say invest in some super grip tape since you can't really buy hoops on Amazon. This stuff is absolutely amazing and amazon is the only place I could find to buy it for a reasonable price. You can put it on the inside of any hoop that you may get in the future. It makes your hoop stick to everything so leg hooping and on body hooping is a breeze even with clothes on.

Also, with this order you get 2 rolls, and I cut mine into thirds so I have enough to put on all my hoops if I wanted to!

Edit: Sorry, I realize this is kind of unrelated. I was just thinking if you're looking to buy something for hooping from amazon specifically, this is an idea. So when you get your smaller hoop you can tape it up, it makes learning tricks much easier. I know its kind of a future investment, but I love mine so much I thought I might share the joy!

Edit 2: I found a seller on amazon that sells poly pro hoops for pretty cheap. Polypro is super light, they wont bruise you. If you like the size of the one you have, measure it and get a poly pro in the same size, or perhaps a little smaller if you're ready for the challenge!

To get right to the point their amazing the sound quality is defiantly a bump up even though I’ve had them for only a day now. I sound deadened the door inside behind the weather shielding and the door panel as seen in the imgur. The vocals are much clearer, and the bass is much more pronounced than the under seat subwoofers. Keep in mind the OEM HIFI is 2 OHM’s @ 40 W’s on everything so you’ll need twice as much volume to run the 4 OHM 35 W Helix Match’s I bought (which are getting around 20W at this moment). I’ll probably overtax the amp if I put the volume up too loud but…… I’m aiming for a better amp anyway! *The sound deadening was a big factor I would say in addition to the speakers. I’m you want to know more just look through the below:

First off, the E90Post is amazing for finding info although most of the products they used are now discontinued and cost a fortune so its up to you to find their replacements. Yes, you can spend a grand or two on some system premade from BAVSound or ... but I still can’t justify it. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641323

BMW Pin-Contact (075mm) - Genuine BMW 61130006664

$11.49 Foam Tape + $57.99 Sound deadening = $69.48. I’ve had this for years and used them for multiple projects so I’m not sure whether to include them. *I’m going to exclude them for now

Spending so far: $107 speakers + 15.48 Adapter + $11.99 Connectors + $39.44 OEM Wiring for front and rear =$173.91 with multiple parts left over for future projects and the rear

________________________________________________________________

Overall my plan is:

Front Component Speakers: Helix Match MS42C (Not buying the BMW specific kit for $100 to 150 more because I can deal with making a few custom things or finding them)

Rear Component Speakers: Helix Match MS42C (I have OCD so I’m just doing this because… Otherwise I coaxial full range with similar specs would have been a lot better) * I still need to either buy another 4 to 3 mount adapter and custom make a tweeter holder. The BMW tweeter is one piece.

Both Under seat Subs: I plan to just scavenge for some L7 subwoofers since they are more than power for most needs. The HIFI is a 40W on 2OHMs and the TOP HIFI L7 is 70W at 4 OHMs. They run about $80-100 for the pair on ebay instead of the Earthquakes at $200 a pair.

_________________________________________________________________

The speakers I bought can run constantly at 35 Watts RMS without an Issue at 4 OHMs and 105 Watts at 4 OHM for short bursts.

So, from research on the forums I’m good with most amps and won’t damage the alternator due to overtaxing it for power since I’m not trying to do some crazy setup.

In addition the BMW Professional from the Hifi isn’t the best but apparently has a pretty clean signal so a DSP isn’t really need although a audiophile will say so. *AMP and speakers will make a world of difference, go with a DSP if you really want insanity like filtering all the minerals out of your water to wash your car.

AMP I’m between the Rockford Fosgate R600X5 and the Pioneer GM DX975 since they’ll both fit in the little crevice where the normal amp sits when removed. $200-250 on amazon or scavenging deals. I need 35 RMS @ 4OHM x 4 so 140 RMS Min @ 4 OHM for speakers and 70 W @ 8 OHMs x 2 so 140 W at 8 OHMs or 240 W @ 4 OHMs

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130GMDX975/Pioneer-GM-DX975.html

4-gauge amplifier power wiring kit $70 I might go cheaper but It’s a critical part so I’d rather not burn my car down

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CK4/Crutchfield-CK4.html

BMW E90/F10/F20/F30 Hi Fi AMP Connector Harness $60 to change the stock HIFI amp to a 5 channel or 6 channel *I’m go 5 channel, the 6 channels are way too expensive and rare

(4 channels for speakers and 1 channel for the subs under the seats to make an 8 OHM) *Lower OHMs usually results in worse sound quality. *A 4 OHM amp can run an 8 OHM without a problem just at half the capacity.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E90-F10-F20-F30-Hi-Fi-AMP-Connector-Harness/163830179229?hash=item26250a259d:g:OTIAAOSwgQ9V4UKR

Future Spending $107 Speakers + $250 AMP + $70 wiring + $60 adapter = $487

Spending so far: $107 speakers + 15.48 Adapter + $11.99 Connectors + $39.44 OEM Wiring for front and rear =$173.91 with multiple parts left over for future projects and the rear

In total when fully finished this should come out to $660.91 or a little more but I’m left with many parts for future endeavors.

*That's for Speakers, AMP, Sound Deadening, mounts and everything. The bimmertech amp is $900 alone I understanding tuning they've done but dam.

This is the perfect sailor gift for him:

Leatherman with one handed knife on the outside. I currently use the Sidekick

OR

Buck Redpoint Knife. This is the best knife I have found for sailing (if you don't want to carry a leatherman)

AND

Nylon belt sheath for Leatherman/Knife

AND

Double D ring belt, in nylon. This is the type of belt sailors wear. Pick whatever colors/pattern you like.

You can get this for $60 or so, and he will love it and use it all the time.

For a little added treat, get him some white electrical tape. 3M brand only, type 35. White only.

u/Ralph_S_Mouse · 3 pointsr/Bass

I have and it did help. I realized I needed it after playing in a bar with a Pool Table light over us. The hum was unbearable. After I played the bar again with the bass shielded I didn't have any more problems.

Funny story, my guitarist got his hands on a Strat with 3 single coil pickups. The next time we played that bar, he plugged in and looked at me like like, WTF is that noise. I then explained to him why I did what I did. He wasn't impressed when I did it originally, but I certainly had his attention then:)

I used something like this

Just go slow and overlap each pass on the previous one. Also, WATCH YOUR FINGERS. Picture a paper cut but from a piece of copper.

Good luck.

I can probably hunt down pics if you're interested.

u/hermitgeek · 2 pointsr/PrintrBot

I'm going to try this on a print tomorrow, thanks for all the advice!

Edit:
Wanted to add, it wasn't Kevlar tape, it is kapton tape, this stuff: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BX49P8K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I tried blue printers tape but it never stayed down. The tape on the bed now is the first sheet I put on, and I have attempted at least 12 prints on it so far.

Ninja edit: Im printing with PLA. Currently I have my extruder set to 208, and my bed at 50. Does this sound about right or am I really off? The successful prints I have had I've had really stick, like I have to give them a good knock to get it off the bed.

u/NRiyo3 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I would buy some 3M VHB mounting tape. The stuff rated for exterior use. Use that to reapply the brackets. Make sure to prep the areas with rubbing alcohol for proper adhesion. Make sure to buy the width that fits your needs the best:
3M-Scotch-4910-VHB-Tape/dp/B00I4E4NE8
Amazon or similar to purchase. Good luck.

Maybe these?

These are great if you can overlook that time the owner spewed a bunch of classist venom on customers for not liking her waffle iron or whatever it was. Idk bc she's irrelevant. But srsly great magnets!

These seem well loved and always intriguing to find products with such outdated packaging...bc they know the product is so good they knew they didn't have to bother with after 1967

u/Alex3M3TI8 · 2 pointsr/Hue

I had a shelving unit that had built in fluorescent tubes. Now, granted it is an accent shelf, and each shelf was approximately 20" x 18". The fluorescent tubes were on the 20" sides, and there was no lighting on the 18" sides. I used Hue Gen 2 light strips all the way around on all three shelves, and the light (without all the CRI calculations) passed the "wife test". No discernible difference at full power detected. (SCORE!).

I also didn't care for the dots of each LED, so I put the Hue lightstrips into these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NCS0WE8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These are super easy to cut with a handsaw, easy to install, and nicely diffuse the LED light and protect the strips.

Where I needed a non-lit extension (such as between each shelf), I used these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M7XDZ5V/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And finally whenever there was a junction, I used white electrical tape to make sure the two strips stayed affixed. Just a small bit to wrap around the joint.

u/candre23 · 6 pointsr/raspberry_pi

That's great, but I definitely recommend an insulator layer between that slab of metal and the rest of the components on the board. Maybe just cover the entire under side with a layer of kapton tape and cut away squares that line up with the cooled components. This way you're protected if the whole assembly shifts or flexes.

Also, steel doesn't make a great heatsink and will obviously corrode over time. Definitely stick with aluminum.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Guitar

Something to consider, is if you're going to be transporting this pedalboard around a lot. I have a Stealth from BlackBird that I got for around $20, but the carrying case they have displayed didn't come with it so transporting it around is a bit of a hassle.

If you're looking for cheap though I'd recommend the Stealth if you can find one.

My powersupply is an AgPtek which is doing a pretty solid job so far. I didn't want a tangled mess of a daisy chain to power the board so this takes care of that problem.

I also purchased some 3M velcro to stick everything to the pedalboard. I have a couple lines of it on top and on the back of my pedals so they stay and I can move them around in a loop, and I've used it to attach my power supply to the underside.

Or if you want something that will work just as good, you could find a slab of wood and use some velcro on it.

u/Hitife80 · 1 pointr/homelab

I was using these kind of ties for some time, but then I discovered a simple bulk velcro tape roll like this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071Y3TVNT. The benefit is that you can cut the tie to be exactly one wrap around with good overlap. Yes, you need scissors to cut it to the length, but not having to make 3-4 circles around the wire is a big plus in my book -- especially when you need to re-tie when you are changing the setup. I only use these large ones with the hole that keeps it on the cable on frequently re-usable stuff (like a laptop power supply, keyboard, mouse cord, etc...) In that case the "extra effort" pays off. On the back of the rack - I am not threading each and every cable tie when I do it once a year... There is also less bulk.

cut to form and make sure to clean surfaces with alcohol before applying. Strong hold but can also be easily removed without residue by pulling like those 3m hook strips.

Kapton tape (Amazon Link) is decent but Poly Tape (Amazon Link) has been found to stick to prints better while still making it easy enough to pull a print off it.

I use a Steelie Car Mount to mount my Galaxy S7 on my 2012 Forester. Had the same gear for my last car and phone and it's not failed me yet. When it comes time to move the mount somewhere, just find a spare plastic membership/rewards card laying around and use it to wedge between the console and the mount. The VHB tape is tough but it'll come off with patience. Also, best to buy a roll of VHB tape from Amazon (the exact roll I bought 2 years ago this Friday and still use) if you expect to move the mount more than once. It's far cheaper than buying the tape kit from Steelie, and you can use it for anything else you need to stick on something.

Thanks guys!

Might try this, I have some Amazon credits to use

If you cycle through the pics, you'll see some white-ish strips of Velcro. This is also known as Hook and Loop tape (as a 3M brand). Just four of these strips were like $8 bucks total, so they can be expensive. But they can sustain about 10 lbs making it perfect for my surface. Here's the general idea.

I love my white shoes, haven't gotten a bad rower strap mark yet, maybe the straps at my studio are forgiving! I do try not to tighten the strap down too much or use my feet to "pull" myself from the finish back to the catch.

You can use a piece of white gaffer tape across the strap area of your shoe to avoid the problem entirely (gaffer tape is easier on and off than duct tape and doesn't leave any adhesive on your shoe) https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ZO7BNLE/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_inactive_ship_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For general accumulated dirt, I use these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LABUT5S/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_track_package_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used this and used scissors to make it thinner. It's not conductive on the adhesive side hence the solder joints.

On my Jeep I did all the traces, tested everything, then put a thick layer of glue over it to act like an insulator/laminate. Otherwise I bet the adhesive would peel pretty quickly.

3M command-strips are kind of expensive though. They're essentially just cut-pieces of 3M VHB tapes. You can buy it in bulk by the roll. And you should do that since it's great to have around and I keep finding uses for it.

In servers I use it to hold 2.5" HDD/SSDs to the chassis.

https://smile.amazon.com/3M-Heavy-Duty-Mounting-Clear/dp/B00HD29S42?sa-no-redirect=1 is great. You could probably use it to attach something to attach the grommets to.

u/LorenWard · 2 pointsr/Dashcam

3M 4910 VHB tape or 4905, but 4910 is thicker and will likely work better.

It's not about being smug, it's about breaking a habit. Just because millions of people do it doesn't make it right. I know plenty of data centers that use velcro strap instead of zip ties.
It's just as easy and quick to get a roll of velcro and snip off what you need. I have done plenty of setups with this and it's just as quick, also faster to undo and swap out cables.

u/RedditCanBeAScumbag · 1 pointr/airsoft

I had a thought, for those who would like to attach to your helmet, cap, or anything else it couldn't latch on to. Just purchase some sticky-back velcro (like this), and velcro it anywhere that you couldn't fasten it to before. Still cheaper than a GoPro.

u/Jayden933 · 4 pointsr/DataHoarder

I'm not certain, though I would assume electrical tape would be fine for this. I just got a small $5 roll of Kapton tape on Amazon

u/glowinglassrose · 2 pointsr/Hooping

Second that, and it's available on amazon prime!

u/zcohenld · 1 pointr/makerbot

We had a ton of problems until we did two things:

  • Change tape for Kapton tape. This stuff creates such an amazingly smooth bottom and sticks really well.
  • Spray a thin layer of Aquanet hair spray on the plate before each print

Doing those two things, we have almost no warping or lifting at all, and when we do, simply turning on rafts typically solves everything.
u/DarthContinent · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

You could just slap the soft side of some velcro on it, then make a daily ritual of slapping it somewhere obvious (was about to suggest magnets since neodymium magnets kick ass, but that wouldn't be healthy for any credit cards obviously).

u/A_Stan · 1 pointr/Dashcam

Haven't had a problem with either of the A119 mounts here in Florida (replaced a windshield one time), although I do mount it on the tint strip to conceal the gray color of the mount. You can also try this 3M VHB that I'm using for other things on my windshield.

Foam insulation tape would work better.

For me, the soft velcro wasn't resilient enough and the rattle has returned. I'm going to take another crack at it with some foam tape I had previously bought to fix the rear hatch rattle I also had.

It is definitly called Duct Tape. https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Use-Duct-2930-C-Inches-Yards/dp/B0013B1XHEIt was origionaly invented for use in ducting and the company decided to use the name “duck” because it sounds simular. It has become an genericized trademark over the years.

Have you thought about putting up some white electrical tape to cover up the loose wire?

u/StevesRealAccount · 1 pointr/3Dprinting

It does sound like your extruder was too close, yes. I've had my printer for more than a year and a half and barring times when I had similar calibration problems, I have had no problems and I'm only on my third sheet of kapton (my printer, fortunately, came with three).

You can buy a roll of kapton tape that would last you many screw-ups at Amazon.
