So you’ve got a few things to look at here. A lot of this may have already been mentioned but there’s a way to effectively live out of your car!

  • The biggest problem Ive ran into was being able to sleep in the car comfortably without having to worry about being groggy the next day. If you don’t have tint in your cars, I recommend having shades. This helps to limit suspicious people looking in on you and helps to block out the light from nearby. But I’d recommend getting this mattress for your car: http://www.amazon.com/Car-Travel-Inflatable-Mattress-Parent-child/dp/B00AUP7O1I

  • Have a laptop with good battery life and have headphones. Hearing noises throughout the night while in the car can really be annoying, but it’s also important to be alert. Because you’re living in your car, you don’t want to fall victim of a mugging.

  • When it comes to places to sleep, i’ve personally found that hotel parking lots usually are the better choices. Places that are 24 hours are definitely your Go-To because you want that constant availability for security and in case of an emergency (you always want to have someone nearby).

  • As mentioned, a Gym membership is also one of the most important things to have. Hygiene will be extremely important and having a gym membership allows you to have a place to workout in, use Wi-Fi at, take showers, etc. You can even use the parking lot here and use those bathrooms if you ever need to go throughout the night.

  • PO Boxes can be handy but make sure you do have a valid address on your drivers license. If you’re ever stopped by the police, you’re best not to try and bullshit with them and be honest. If you’re resting on a private establishment, tell them you’ll be on your way.

  • Food becomes the next thing. If you have a solar charger available or a wall outlet, a Slow Cooker (Crockpot) or Rice cooker can be one of the most beneficial appliances to have around. Keeping a cooler in your car with some important items is definitely necessary. Water is good to have, but natural fruit juices are actually a bit better for you here.

  • You’re going to have some free time on your hands, so a part time job may be your next best option. I usually try to position the jobs so you do have some time to yourself. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

  • Get your learning on with your time you have. Laundromats are pretty beneficial, but I haven’t really encountered those with Wi-Fi. McDonalds or your Gym are pretty good for Wi-Fi usage, but there’s a lot of things you can actually do offline. If you’re using a Mac or Safari, save articles to your Reading list for some offline reading, or download some informational videos. iTunes U is extremely good if you’re wanting to learn some new subjects. If you’re able to use a Wi-Fi network without any issues, check out sites like Codecademy to really boost your skills.

  • Remain positive always. Meditating is really good for helping to clear your mind. There’s a good post here on how to effectively meditate if you’re relatively new to it. Using sites like Facebook can get quite depressing seeing the crap that’s posted, so I’d stay away from there.

  • Stay Safe. It’s easier said than done in some areas. While it’s cheaper to live in your car, it’s risky and you’re going to encounter some obstacles. This should only be done short term until you can manage to get an awesome apartment for quite cheap!

That’s about it for the tips that I can think of right off the bat. A good subreddit I stumbled across after going through this (and mentioned here a few times) is /r/vandwellers. If I think of anything else, i’ll edit them right in here! Hope this helps and good luck out there.

Hi there. I just went to Korea over the summer with my wife! Unfortunately we ended up on separate flights because we left/returned on separate days.

Not sure how much your husband has traveled before. I was absolutely DREADING the flight (4 hours to San Fran then 12 to Seoul for me) but I actually had a wonderful time and the trip itself went great.

Some tips:

    1. Go to Walgreens and pick up some Meclizine. It's for motion sickness and is available over the counter. It's like Dramamine and definitely can knock you out, but I never felt like it caused me to drag like Dramamine did once I woke up. Both flights this knocked me out for a good 3-4 hours.

    1. Go to Amazon and grab a comfy neck pillow. I got this one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WWFYCSG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    1. My flight had plugs but I also picked up this cheap battery in case my headphones died. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005X1Y7I2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    1. Get an Audible subscription. The first month is free so you can cancel. I recommend Red Rising. It's a good one and it occupied a lot of my time to listen to.

    1. Get a cheap surfacebook and buy Civilization 5 or 6. This alone took up a ton of my time.

    1. The flight showed good movies to take up some time. I recommend downloading the flight app BEFORE you board. My flight showed Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and a couple other good ones on the main screen, but you also have the option of a netflix-esque list of movies and shows on your phone/tablet.

    1. The food was absolutely terrific (for a flight meal). Hot and delicious. My flight had a baked chicken dish with rice and steamed carrots. Was really tasty. They actually served us 2 hot meals and 2 snacks. Besides these, definitely consider grabbing some snacks. I like simple peanut butter crackers.

    1. On that note, every time you are offered water, TAKE IT. It'll give you a good reason to move around and go to the bathroom. If you can find times to stretch your legs, go for it. And it has the added benefit of helping to avoid blood clots.

    1. If all else fails, my flight had free beer + wine. That alone should help him manage!

Shouldn't be too bad overall. Like I said, I was so dreading the experience and actually my flight overall went super well. I'm totally open to it now in the future, where before I thought I would do this one trip and not fly so far again for a few years.

      Good luck!

Ohhhh man, I feel ya on the finals! The struggle. Is. REAL. I'm also a final semester senior right now and I have a full blown case of the senioritis right now. GUH, I don't wanna do anything! I just wanna graduate already, enjoy my summer, and start grad school, dangit!

Today I've been cooped up in a lab all day. I got about five hours of sleep, so I'm feeling kinda weird and out of it. My only subjects today are three hours apart too, so my plan was initially work on homework that's due tomorrow, but who am I kidding? I've been in the lab watching SNL on Hulu and checking up on RAOA. =) After my actual research meeting today, I plan on trying to be a bit more productive with my schoolwork, and hopefully cleaning up my room a bit, too. Yeahhhh today's one of those super boring Mondays...X) Sorry I don't have anything more exciting to tell you about today, haha!

For stuff that will help you with your revision I suggest these items: a comfy reading cushion so you can work anywhere and still be comfortable! This lap desk also so you can work anywhere and be comfy- also it gives you a nicer surface for writing or for your laptop. I actually have this lap desk and I love it! I have a 15" laptop, and I still have room on the desk for my mouse. This lap desk could also be used for gaming anywhere with your laptop (that's what I do quite often)! ;D

For revision breaks, I simply suggest going outside! Nothing is more refreshing than nature, my friend. Take a walk, go on a bike ride, just sit outside and read- whatever floats your boat! =D I tried looking on Amazon for some outdoorsy accessories for you, but it's really all personal preference on what sort of outdoor activities you like to do!

As for my wishlist, I'd really like this water bottle for my bike, but I'm honestly fine with anything on my wishlist in your range, so feel free to surprise me if I happen to win!

Who needs revision?! Thank you so much for this contest! And good luck with studying, revising, and of course, on your finals!

Created an account after months of lurking to post this.

I have had sleep problems for as long as I can remember; without going into the symptoms, diagnoses, etc. in the interest of brevity, these are the steps I have taken to correct it:

Typical good sleep habits (Standard fare, I sometimes break these rules but stick to them whenever possible) -

  • No videogames within an hour of bedtime.
  • Ingest as little sugar as possible within two hours of bedtime.
  • No large meals within three hours of bedtime.
  • No exercise within four hours of bedtime.
  • Once the sun goes down, try to keep all lights as dim as possible without causing discomfort to your eyes; consider turning down the brightness of your monitor a few notches, too.
  • Exercise for at least ten minutes a day, as close to mid-day as possible ((I find a descending set of 10 burpees to be a great workout; it can take less than 15 minutes and is completely exhausting, and any redditor that says they don't have 15 minutes to spare in the day is lying)).
  • Get up at the same time every morning, even weekends.
  • Go to bed at the same time every night, even weekends.
  • Bear in mind, the "sleepy effect" of alcohol wears off in a few hours; this can cause you to wake up in the middle of the night, unable to go back to sleep.

Absolute darkness at bedtime (The end result is as close to pitch black as I can manage) -

  • Tin-foil over bedroom window
  • Alarm clock's display covered
  • All LED indicators in the room covered
  • Night mask for good measure.

Focusing on breathing - Random thoughts can easily keep me awake for several hours at a time, simply because I spend so much time thinking about them that my mind never "shuts off." A personal method that I came up with to combat this (I don't recall reading about it anywhere, it just occurred to me one night) is to concentrate on my breathing with the highest degree of focus possible, in hopes that my mind's resources are so fully devoted to the task that it has nothing left to have random thoughts with. It actually seems to work spectacularly. I am no longer "bored" when trying to go to sleep, because I am actively engaged in a task; sleep seems to occur within minutes.
    TL;DR -

  • Devote your full attention and focus to your breathing and/or how your body feels.
  • If you think about anything, you aren't paying enough attention to your breathing.
  • You shouldn't have to adjust your sleeping position more than once or twice. Discomfort may be a sign that you need a better pillow or mattress. If this isn't an option, try to focus only on your breathing, and ignore the discomfort.

Comfortable mattress/pillow - When I first moved into my current apartment, I had no mattress or pillow; having only had springy hand-me-down mattresses up to this point, I decided to opt for the cheapest memory foam mattress I could find, and was so impressed that I later bought a memory foam pillow as well. $300-$350 overall with free shipping; the claims of the mattress being environmentally-friendly was a deciding factor for me (the free shipping even more so) but if you're unconcerned about that, consider it icing on the cake.

Light therapy - This form of treatment is apparently experimental; I myself have only been using it a few months, but it's been more effective than any of the five sleep medications I've tried. In a nutshell, an extremely bright light (20 times brighter than typical indoor lighting) acts as an artificial sun, prompting a "wake up" response from your body. By causing this response at the same time every day (within an hour of waking up) for a few weeks, your body naturally adjusts your internal clock accordingly.

The Phillips BriteLITE 6 was actually given to me free of charge by my medical provider. After a few months of using it I'm certain it's worth every penny, but I realize dropping $180 on an unproven method that you heard about on the internet probably seems unwise.

Obviously, try the above methods first, or try using natural sunlight if you live in a sunny area. If the above methods don't work, natural sunlight isn't available, or you just hate going outside, do some research on Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorders (DSPS is one of them), Melatonin, etc., and consider it. I could go into more detail about the BriteLITE 6 if you'd like, or make a separate AMA for my experience with Light Therapy (remember, I'm no doctor; this is just something I'm trying, am thoroughly impressed with, and want to spread the word about). Otherwise, good luck to you, sir.

EDIT: Fixed the bullet point formatting, added bold to the different methods.

Wow that's scary, hope you feel better and the clot is destroyed quickly. I'm guessing youre on stronger blood thinners? And how did they find the clot in the lungs? Its good you went to the ER when you did. I completely understand the frustration with the calf pain, it was annoying af.

I ended up going to the ER and got an ultrasound to. They didn't find any clots in my leg, but didn't check my lungs. I also didn't really have any signs of pulmonary embolism so it probably wasn't necessary. The ER doctors kept in contact with my surgeon which was nice, but were unable to give me a solid diagnosis. I finally had my post op with the surgeon a week later and he diagnosed it as a bad hematoma. Apparently my hamstring bled a lot during the graph, and all the blood pooled in my calf, eventually forming the hematoma. He still told me to monitor signs of a DVT, but to try and move around a reasonable amount to breakup the hematoma.

The calf pain was quite shitty for a solid 3 weeks or so but it got slightly better each day. I'm started walking crutch free (around 3.5 weeks post op) and now only a little bit of pain in my lower leg (closer to the ankle), but its definitely much much better. I found that elevating my leg helped a lot, same with regular icing. Also, do tons of ankle pumps.

These 3 products were really helpful:

https://www.amazon.ca/Milliard-Elevator-Cushion-Washable-Elevation/dp/B01BCQ7U5S/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=knee+pillow+acl&qid=1562975863&s=gateway&sr=8-1

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06XZ5SBD1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It was a bit painful using the knee pillow and took some getting used to but it helped tremendously. Ideally, you don't want to bend your knee much when sleeping, so I placed a small pillow under my foot at the top of this pillow.

The first ice pack is great as it stays nice and cool thanks to the insulation, and the straps work really well.

The second ice pack is great cause it wraps around your entire leg. I had 3 ice packs I rotated through, started off by icing my knee, then moved it over to my calf after around 20 minutes.

Hope you have a safe recovery man!

I don't know what kinds of activities you do but I make jewelry, sew, and do old school photography methods that require a decent amount of equipment and I brought everything but my sewing machine (which I only left with my mom because I didn't think I'd be near an electrical outlet enough to justify bringing it lol), and gog has a suitcase of books we affectionately called the "library". So all of our hobbies, plus our clothes, cooking equiptment, food (perishable in a cooler and nonperishable in a sturdy canvas bag), 8 gallons of water, our bed, and other random stuff I'm neglecting to think of fit pretty comfortably in the caravan. I'd be happy to send you photos of our setup to give you a better sense of it if you want.
also, if you're thinking of going in a car you should check out things like this... http://www.amazon.com/Car-Travel-Inflatable-Mattress-Parent-child/dp/B00AUP7O1I
someone showed it to me awhile back and I thought it was kind of brilliant.
Also, roadtrippers.com is a great way to find things to see or do. ( For those of you looking at all my replies I swear I don't work for roadtrippers.com, I only keep mentioning it because I have found the app and the website to be super useful) Or google "weird things to see in (or along) insert town or highway here"

I travel a ton for work and these have been my workhorses:

u/ukelily · 6 pointsr/peacecorps

Glad I brought:

Kindle

Hard drive

Chaco flip-flops

A travel pillow

Sturdy but comfortable hiking pants

Bonus: my Hydroflask water bottle. Love that thing, and love not wasting plastic bottles.

Didn't really need to bring:

Casual clothes like t-shirts (my country has plenty)

Water bottle with a travel filter (my Peace Corps filter is adequate)

School supplies like pens and markers. There's a shop in my village that has plenty.

My nice-ish closed toe sandals that I was required to wear for PST, but never wear at site. PST is annoying like that.

My rechargeable flashlight. My house has electricity most of the time and I use my headlamp when it doesn't.

Wish I brought:

More snack items

More cotton collared shirts (I have to wear them for work, but clothes wear out fast here, and I don't like the ones I can buy in country.)

A Bluetooth speaker for playing music in my classroom

One of those phone cases that gives your battery an extra charge

Chocolate protein powder

It's going to be tricky to fit a double bed in that small room, but it can probably be done if you're willing to replace the closet doors. It'll still be a tight squeeze though, and the room will be crowded. I don't think it'll be possible to fit in both a decent sized desk and extra seating.

For the bed, look for something with storage; a platform with drawers and maybe a bookcase-type headboard would give you quite a bit. If you like to read or lounge around on the bed, get a bed rest.

Because the room will be crowded and because you've said it's too dark, a glass desk would be ideal. Try a set-up similar to this one, but measure carefully to make sure you get a desk that will fit into the corner where your bed is now.

For a bit more storage and a place to put a bedside lamp, here's a mostly transparent nightstand.

For lighting, look for lamps that have a shade in a light color. For next to the bed, this one or this one would be good. Get another lamp to sit on the cabinet under the windows. It looks like it's not very wide, so a thin lamp would work well. All of these lamps will take at least a 100W bulb and the glass in the room will help reflect the light. You'll also need a desk lamp.

Here's a floorplan, and as you can see, the bed is taking up most of the space. I'm wondering if the bed will fit on that wall though, because there's a tall white thing? on that wall between the desk and the bookcase and I can't tell if it's built-in or not. I'm assuming it's not since you didn't include that in your measurements, but if it is, I don't think the bed can go on that wall.

u/blaaaaaargh · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I see you like Harry Potter. I am a fan of this throw. Or you could get the Marauder's Map! This is also really cool. You need.

I love Harry Potter collectibles. I'm in the process of acquiring all the Horcruxes right now.

If I win I really need a new pillow. It's $1.50 over, so a giftcard towards it would be amazing.

Thank you for the contest and I hope you feel better soon!

Also I just saw you're from Michigan as well! Rad. Are you thinking of going to the meet-up?

Title|Overnight flight tips | Sleep through your flight!

Description|Hey everyone! In preparation for my red eye flight in September, I’ve compiled a list of 12 tips to get you asleep on your next overnight flight. The goal is to have a full night sleep on the plane so I can enjoy my first day in Scotland without feeling too weird, tired and cranky. The Tardis makes me really happy. I also really love fleece blankets. I ain't birthed no babies!

Also. [Happy Birfday.] (http://www.amazon.com/Across-the-Universe-ebook/dp/B00475ARSO/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1376882087&sr=1-1&keywords=across+the+universe) I'm reading the third in the series right now and they're awesome. The website is also really bad ass.

Congrats on being an Aunt! I like the name, it's pretty. Have a great birthday!

These are general flight comfort tips, but I think comfort is even more important while you are pregnant! I have a lot of experience with long flights.

In addition to your compression socks, wear very comfortable clothing and layers so you can adjust your temperature. Bring earplugs/noise cancelling headphones and a face mask for napping and quiet time. Ask for an extra pillow to support your lower back.

I'd check out the Trtl travel pillow too, great for longer economy flights. Those chairs really do not recline very far. https://www.amazon.com/Trtl-Pillow-Scientifically-Support-Washable/dp/B00LB7REFK/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_201_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=RDSYTYWDB50C3V7FHA30

Bring way more water and snacks than you think you will need, and drink a ton of water. Really easy to get dehydrated on long flights. Bring lip balm.

Assuming you are making a significant time zone change it really helps minimize jet lag misery to start gradually adjusting to the new time in the week before you travel. If you are going east get up earlier every each day the week before travel, west stay up later and sleep in later if you can. Take Unisom to help you get yo sleep on the plane (usually I would take half a prescription sleeping pill, but not doing so while pregnant. Unisom is pregnancy safe).

Might be worth looking up some basic hip and leg stretches you can do while in your seat too.

u/LearyTraveler · 1 pointr/AskWomen

Load up your phone with your favorite media - podcasts, TV shows, movies. I like to use travel time to start a new show or to read a new book. Bring earplugs and an eye mask (the last 9 hour flight I was on never turned off the overhead lights once). Bring a portable charger or power bank. On your trip, don't be afraid to slow down, take a nap, or spend an hour drinking a cup of coffee at a cafe.

Wear comfortable clothing in the plane, especially shoes. Most museums and major attractions will give you the option to buy an online ticket and skip the lines - do this ahead of time! Then you won't have to wait in a super long ticket line before getting into the entry line.

Do your research and plan out what major attractions you have to see. Then be flexible in your plans and be prepared to make adjustments if something is closed or if it just doesn't work out.

This is the best neck pillow I have ever bought:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009416CVC/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1495001757&sr=8-13&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Neck+pillow

Another redditor recommended it and it is the only pillow I've tried that actually supports your neck. My boyfriend always tries to steal it from me.

This is the one I got https://www.amazon.com/Weighted-Blanket-Removable-ZIPPER-SYSTEM/dp/B07BPBHWLG/ref=sr_1_1?crid=XRABFGY1Q72X&keywords=serenity+engineered&qid=1570417142&sprefix=serenity+en%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-1
I have had mine for a good while so I can actually give you a good review. I absolutely adore mine, its very well made. I have washed the cover very many times and it has held up well. The blanket itself is the only one I came across that has zippers inside it to keep the blanket in place inside its cover, so no noise or moving issues inside the cover. It also has glass beads (almost non noticeable) & it had the very small quilts at 3x3 to help spreading the weight evenly. I could not tell you if the ones below 100 are good or bad since I have not used one of those 😊 I hope this helps you out.

Heya! I had surgery yesterday and everything is going surprisingly smooth! I have almost no pain since I’m up on my medications, and everyone at the centre is soooo so nice and reassuring. You sign in and can go in a pre op room to wait with whoever comes with you (if you want them there) and Genoway, the nurse, and the anesthesiologist all come to talk to you separately and give you lots of time to ask any questions you want to. Then you go in to the OR and lay down, and then you basically just wake up! They’ll keep you for an hour or so and then you’re free to go.

The first day you’re gonna be super out of it and walking around like Frankenstein, but I’m already ok enough to get up and down off the couch on my own and go to the bathroom and stuff. Someone in this thread recommended getting an airplane neck pillow and I 1000% second that. I’ve been sleeping sitting up with a armchair pillow thing (https://www.amazon.ca/Milliard-Reading-Pillow-Shredded-Memory/dp/B0733ZCSR9/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=3FLZU2CCE61LB&keywords=milliard+reading+pillow&qid=1556637693&s=gateway&sprefix=milliaed+rea&sr=8-2 ) and a neck pillow and it’s been way more comfortable than I thought!

You’re gonna do totally awesome 💪 I can’t say anything for results yet, but the surgery itself was not as bad or scary as I thought it’d be, haha

u/Hooki-Looki · 1 pointr/sleep

I purchased mine a while a go and really happy with it. I chose it mainly because it had the zippers as I could not bare the thought of having to adjust the blanket inside its duvet when its that heavy & I also liked their smaller quilts. I bought mine off of the company website but now I've seen that they are also offering it on Amazon, here it is
Whichever you end up buying be sure it comes with a cover, mine is washing washable but not sure how I feel about having to wash a 15-lb blanket in my precious washer and dryer. The cover however is super to easy to wash ;)

Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, take my advice with a grain of salt.

My wife suffers from chronic back due to an improperly placed epidural. One thing that helped her was a back brace with lumbar belt. Here's one for reference:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GVO2PVK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3OoQBb524XVBD

There are also bed assist handles. They are secured to the bed, and help the person pull themselves up:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JIJRZ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aXoQBbHKRNP8W

Finally, you might consider a reading/seat pillow. It supports you so that you can rest sitting up. My grandmother used one of these to help get out of bed when her sciatica prevented her from being able to get off her back: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733ZCSR9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-YoQBbNP02W5K

I'm not sure about exosuits for the elderly, I know that they exist, but i don't know any suppliers. Still, a combination of these (maybe all of them) may help. Best of luck.

u/alwsthk · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

We bought a soft top for our roof and a car adapter as well. We kept most of clothes and blankets in vacuum sealed bags so we could save room on the trip. Car adapter worked great for the mini electric air pumps, they also sucked out all the air from the vacuum seal bags. This looks for interesting and seems like it would be an ok idea.

Pack snacks. Hit up the grocery store for cheap meals. Make your own sandwiches. Grab a whole rotisserie chicken, some fruit, fresh veg and dip. Healthy meal on the go. And usually left overs for sandwiches the next day.

Also look into hostels or B & B's the off season it tends to be a lot cheaper. See if you can do a drop in swim or something at a recreational centre. Then you get access to showers as well. The drop in rate at the centres for near me for swim are $3.

Edit: first aid kit!

u/judogirl · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I cannot believe that this Doctor Who throw is now an add-on. It was over $40 when I added it to my wishlist! I really want this because I love wrapping up in blankets and Doctor Who is an amazing show!

I know I love to go for casual drives in my car, with no destination and no timeframe, but what do people that live on remote islands do when they just need to get away? Can they just hop in a pane and...I don't know, fly casual? Cuz that would be pretty awesome!

u/BQJJ · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I go to Disney World (cliche, but I've only been once, and my girlfriend and kid are dying to go), staying in one of their cheaper hotels but still on the park grounds. I'm bringing this neck pillow because even two hour flights deserve comfort.

Taking my girlfriend and son (obviously), and possibly my best friend and his ladyfriend.

Yeah, it as only like this for the comparison picture. My wedge pillow has a trough in the middle so there’s nothing to bend the knee. I have a pillow on the edge for my heel to assist with full extension. This pillow has been wonderful, very helpful for comfortable sleeping. Just making sure to do heel pumps and quad firing throughout the day.

u/echevez · 1 pointr/financialindependence

I love the bag I have. I got it back when it was on sale for like 70 bucks. I use it as my carry on for every flight I take. This eye mask, neck pillow, and ear plug combo was a lifesaver on a red eye I took last year as well

u/artipants · 2 pointsr/infertility

Totally depends on what kind of pillow you want!

My husband absolutely loves his memory foam countour pillow, something like this. I got an old friend of mine this pillow after he complained about always getting hot at night and I know he was still using it a year later. I personally just use $5 cheapies for my head but absolutely need a body pillow to get comfortable. I'm considering one like this because it's longer and firmer than the one I have now.

Best thing I did was cook a bunch of food to throw in the freezer. Big batches of soup, chili, etc.

I didn't find that I really needed accessories for my crutches, but I have a small apartment so it wasn't difficult to get around from one room to the other. If you're having to move across large distances, it may be nice to get a bag that attaches. Otherwise, use a fanny pack or something that you already have.

Shower stool was a nice to have, but wish I had borrowed instead of bought it. Only used it for the first 2 weeks.

I bought this pillow to sleep with and it was a god send to me. Before surgery, when I slept in the brace, my leg would keep falling to the side which left me with lots of hip pain. This kept me elevated and prevent side to side movement. Also used this a lot while sitting on the couch and propping up my leg on the ottoman.

u/zapfastnet · 1 pointr/SleepApnea

good luck going forward --plenty of good advice ITT.

One "accessory " that helps me with sleeping with my full face mask is a Buckwheat hull Pillow . it can be formed to help make room for the mask while supporting your head.

I could not get used to a nose only mask. the chin strap was a deal killer for me.

there are also other kinds of CPAP specific pillows out there.

u/tjr-165 · 1 pointr/AutisticAdults

since you are in Australia, Amazon would be your best option as they offer international shipping to Australia. Here is the one I got off of Amazon. The zippered cover and smaller pockets were the determining factors for me. Mine came with a warm/cozy cover for winter & I also bought their own cotton cover separately for summer time & it worked out great year long. Now its starting to get chilly again so I will be switching back to cozy cover this week I think.

I take my McKenzie Roll to all freelance gigs. While it does have lumbar support, it’s also a constant reminder to have shoulders back and chest open. I also recommend installing a Chrome Extension that reminds you to do 20/20/20. Also just making sure you get up, stay hydrated, and get some exercise will help.

u/pretty_snappy · 5 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Sorry that I can't give you a brand, but I bought mine from a local mattress manufacturer. It's made from the same talalay latex that my mattress is made of. Comes in soft, medium, firm. Firm is probably best for side sleepers like us. Very comfy. Look up talalay latex pillow. Expect to spend about $80.

Stay away from memory foam. It's a closed-cell foam and gets really hot because it can't breathe.

For example if I were to mass produce something like this item but change a little bit of the design to not make it look exactly like the originals, will I get sued for copyrights infringments or other kinds of lawsuits such as counterfeit or copyrights issues?

Do I have to invent my own item to sell or can I get my products from the original place that sells it and then sell it on Amazon?

If you need others to inspire you to help people you were never going to help people in the first place. Homelessness is not a new problem, it does not require social media exposure: People who take these photos and post these stories want their pat on the back and told they are a good person.

Edit: Also have some self awareness when doing this type of thing: The homeless do not want personal care items, they can get those from any shelter/church. Want to get them something? Warm underwear/socks in a ziplock bag (thermal or wool), a bottle of water (canteens might seem nice but they will often wind up lost/stolen/throw out when they become a burden) and a good blanket.

https://www.amazon.com/Olive-Green-Retardent-Blanket-Military/dp/B00D1AJVHY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1492446716&sr=8-3&keywords=army+surplus+wool+blanket This style, wash and dry it first otherwise it will be itchy and most likely get thrown out.

All clothing items: Launder them first, when they first reach you they will be painful to wear, spend the time to clean them.

Make sure it has enough buckwheat to support your head and neck and kind of bunch it up towards your headboard. You'll be in a bit of an incline (but comfortably supported) and your shoulder should be largely relieved of the pressure.

u/BarbarianNerd · 1 pointr/AskMen

I like variety

Those foamy type blankets are very comfortable and make a good light weight blanket. I think they're called vellux and they have a kind of velvet texture.

then a good wool blanket, army surplus ones are the best. And there's an abundance of stuff on amazon.

Avoid anything made by rothco and avoid anything called disaster relief/first aid/rescue blankets or similar. Rothco products are grotesquely inferior, but it's kinda hard to mess up a blanket. Maybe they do ok. Judge for yourself.

However, the 'disaster blankets' are just disposable recycled compressed fibers and they degrade quickly. Only meant to keep people warm/comfort them for briefly when they have nothing else. They're commonly found in police crusiers and ambulances.

these are probably the best legit ones, but they are available under other listings from a variety of vendors. And there's a ton of options out there, the french and polish ones are pretty rugged and good for camping. Mexican style wool blankets are rad, but it's not as cool as going to Mexico and getting it yourself.

swiss

good ole murican milsurp, made for cuddling not outdoor adventures it's a literal safety blanket. I miss these things. Bear in mind it might be rank with fire retardant and first, so wash it with some woollite and it'll get all snuggly.

Before you shell out a lot of money, try adding a lumbar roll to your current chair - something like https://www.amazon.com/OPTP-Original-McKenzie%C2%AE-Lumbar-Roll/dp/B000H48WYA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1473945712&sr=8-1&keywords=back+support+roll. I used to have bad back pain and tried a variety of crazy chairs, and funny enough, adding this to the most basic office chair is usually the best solution for me. Just adding a little support/pressure in the right place can make a huge difference in your comfort.

u/Maria_rose-2 · 2 pointsr/Fibromyalgia

If you order from Amazon I think they ship to Canada as well (not sure so you gotta check on that).
For your weight I think the 10-lb blanket is what is recommended based on the suggested 10% of body weight I had seen everywhere.
I picked this one because it had the 3 x 3 quilts so the weight is exceptionally distributed. It also comes with a zipper inside and outside to secure the blanket to its cover so there is virtually no movement inside the cover.

I purchased a cheapo $10 neck pillow that snaps in the front so it'll keep in place. I am very curious about [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Trtl-Pillow-Scientifically-Support-Washable/dp/B00LB7REFK/ref=zg_bs_3732121_2/155-2294129-2666707)
Seems like it wouldn't be comfortable but it has a lot of good reviews.

u/andrewbadera · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Ha, well, the first one I really liked was Italian army surplus that had been mothballed in a limited lot for years, perhaps decades. Pretty soft, pretty durable: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CX8U1CE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The most recent one is very soft, not yet sure how durable, had it a year, no wear, no outside use (which was the biggest benefit I thought of my parents'): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D1AJVHY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have one more that is older than the Italian army, it's probably the roughest, it's endured outdoor usage and indoor. It's a little scratchy, but nothing like my parents' Vietnam stuff. Unfortunately I don't remember where I got it. EBay maybe, at least 5 years ago, possibly more like 10-15.

I had one other that got lost in a move. It was pretty durable, but again, fairly rough, and no idea where it came from.

I have a latex pillow that I’ve had for, I don’t know, 6 years maybe and it’s held up perfectly fine.

Z 100% Natural Talalay Latex Zoned Pillow - Queen - High Loft, Plush https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00382XCL6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mY3cAbJT86942

They make 4 different styles. High loft plush, high loft firm, low loft plush, and low loft firm.

For a side sleeper you want a high loft.

They also make them in king sizes.

Make sure she’s got good posture/support if she’s breastfeeding in bed! It’s probably the source of her back problems. It’s handy to have a pillow like this one for back support and a nursing pillow to hold baby up so she isn’t hunching over.

I have to go to physical therapy because of my shoulders/neck due to chronic muscle pain and my PT recommended I buy the lumbar support below. Not only does it take strain off of my lower back but it really helps decrease the tension in my shoulders and neck since it helps correct my posture. I don't wrap it around the chair, I just put it within the lordosis of my lumbars and am good to go. I also

  1. Take some ibuprofen to get the inflammation down. Take it with food and take it with TUMs (antacid calcium tablets ) to protect your stomach.

  2. Spend your time on the floor. Read a book or watch videos to keep your mind off of it.

  3. Get to a doctor (preferably an orthopedic doctor specializing in back pain )to confirm that it isn't a disc injury. Most back pain is usually just muscle spasms.

  4. As soon as you can get walking, even if it hurts. It will speed up your back healing.

  5. Physical therapy has the best track record for helping back pain as far as type of professionals go. If you want an adjustment go to an Osteopath, not a Chiropractor. Osteopaths do adjustments and have the same education as MDs. Research has shown that adjustments peak in value after about two times.

  6. The most therapeutic self care for bad backs is swimming, long walks with good posture, and ab strengthening exercises.

  7. Bend from the hips, not the waist, knees bent, and always keep your back straight when doing so by looking up.

  8. If you must sit in a chair put a cylindrical cushion (or cushy rolled up towel )between the back of your chair and the small of your back.....and sit up straight.

  9. Remember that your spine and back are near indestructible, so chances are this is a soft tissue injury that will go away gradually and there is no need to worry until a doctor tells you otherwise. Worry is the biggest problem with back pain, rather than any issues with the back.

Good Luck and take it easy :)
u/reddilada · 1 pointr/camping

They make inflatable pillows that pack small, but I really don't like them. Your head just kinda rolls off of them.

My favorite is the Thermarest pillow. A proper squishy pillow that stuffs into itself to reduce the size. Comes in a bunch of sizes and colors.

u/Gullex · 13 pointsr/Bushcraft

u/Jhana4 · 1 pointr/Buddhism

Use one of these when you have to sit for a long time. Also get this book in case the PTs you saw didn't show you this exercise.

Swimming is the best thing you can do for a bad back.

Ginger is a powerful antiinflammatory and it is a lot easier on your system than ibuprofen.

I realize many of these things might be too weak for your pain, but they are all worth a try.

If CBD oil capsules don't work for you see an MD familiar with CBD to see if they can get you some of the more potent products that are available to only MDs.

Latex pillows last forever compared to the standard fiber-filled ones I kept having to replace every six months. I have this one. The only thing with latex is it's very bouncy and some people don't like that. (Especially when cats walk on your pillow, they bounce you around more than with a normal pillow.)

u/purple_sage2 · 1 pointr/funny

If you sleep on your stomach then you probably wouldn't like the pillow like I have. It doesn't squish down like a feather pillow does. You could try one of these pillows and maybe get the low loft one.

I don't know how small of a car you're working with, but I am over 6 feet tall and was able to make do in a Buick Century ('99 custom edition, no big deal). I just had a couple pillows, a fluffy comforter and a blanket which made things soft enough. Then I would sleep at a diagonal usually with my feet going into the front passenger seat, which was fully reclined. Sounds awkward, but I made it work. Honestly, the worst part was temperature control, but even that most nights wasn't too bad. I loved the convenience of just waking up and being ready to go.

Depending on the design of your car, you might be able to remove part of the backseat and sleep halfway into the trunk, but if you have a lot of gear with you that could get cumbersome I'd imagine.

I had seen this before and was intrigued, but I didn't know it existed until I no longer had a need for it. I'm not sure if it is worth the price tag.

First of all, if you drive a lot, a McKenzie roll http://www.amazon.com/Original-McKenzie-Lumbar-Roll-OPTP/dp/B000H48WYA?th=1 for your car seat helps a lot. If you're like me and like the seat way back, you need to move it up closer so you're sitting pretty much straight up. One of the sciatica symptoms is if you almost cry getting out of the car, you've got it. The exercises I did were:lying on my stomach on the floor, slowly push up with your arms and arch your back, then slowly back down (should take 20-30 seconds per rep) 15 reps. Then lying on my back with feet in the air (like an L shape) slowly raise your bottom and lower back off the floor. Don't really engage your abs, just try to stretch your lower back. These were recommended to me by a massage therapist friend (after a massage, which might help), I am in no way an authorized medical advice dispenser. Sitting on a medicine ball (instead of a chair at my computer) helped a lot too.

It took about a month to get it better, but I swear, if I had had to live with that pain all my life I would have seriously considered something horrible. The pain is excruciating. It took some time to get that bad so get going on fixing whatever it is sooner rather than later. Good luck.
