Older dogs benefit from a variety of supplements, and there are several things you can do as your dog is getting older to help with these sorts of issues.

Joints/Bones:
Glucosimine/chondroitin - these are your standard osteo health suppliments. Really, most dogs over 75 lbs should be on some regimen of these as they get older. Don't be fooled by dog branded versions! You can buy these in bulk and save a lot. Here is a great example:

Fish Oil: Fish oil acts as a natural lubricant, but it is important to bear in mind that dogs (as in humans) will not absorb as much as can be absorbed via pills. Frozen tilapia fillets are cheap and plentiful and also have a lot of other beneficial vitamins and such.

You're already off to a great start on those hips with that orthopedic bed, but it sounds like your dog might have lost some weight in her old age? Hips don't generally protrude more or less unless there is a weight change. Consider some organic no ingredient (just peanuts, peanut oil, salt)peanut butter as a way to introduce some extra calories into her diet without resorting to junk food. Although you don't want to fatten her up, keeping her a decent weight will keep her energy levels higher and there is some added protein in the peanut butter as well. This is easy to mix into a diet.

It will take a bit of re-training to help your dog learn to follow steps. In my experience it is better to build these yourself to make it a good size for your dog/bed, also the smooth stairs sometimes are harder to grip than some 'uglier' rough stairs. A handyman should be able to build some basic steps for a case of beer and $50 for supplies.

Heating pads / ice packs are generally not the best ways to deal with this sort of thing. An unfortunate fact of your dog getting older is some new limitations, but the modicum of discomfort they feel is actually productive in keeping them functional. They are less likely to over-stress the joints if there is a little discomfort doing so. One thing you might talk to your vet about is a very light amount of Tramadol. I have a rottweiler with arthritis and joint pain in one leg from a birth defect, and although he doesn't let it slow him down, I find giving him a 1/2 tablet after a hike helps him just enough, basically a super tylenol. For my 85lb Rottie thats about .25mg.

Another thing you can try is turmeric! It has been proven to be a powerful anti-inflammatory and is generally dog safe. It does have a particular taste that not every dog will take to, but that can generally be circumvented with clever treats, and always more peanut butter. A dog about yours size would be about 2 teaspoons daily, but you might have to work up to it if she has a sensitive stomach or is a picky eater.

One very over looked part of a dogs (especially older dogs) life is their teeth. Good teeth help in your dogs old age will help her retain her appetite. An easy way to help this is beef back ribs. Typically available for 2-5 dollars for a single serving (for an 85lb dog, 1lb is plenty for a meal). DON'T COOK THESE! Rendered fat is not good for dogs, and cooked bones aren't good either (cooked bones splinter, raw bones do not). Straight raw in a clean environment and your dog and her teeth will love you for them! You can also do raw chicken carcasses [edit: spend extra to get non-factory chickens!] or lamb shanks if your dog has no allergies to either, and lamb is especially good for dogs.

So first and foremost it’s cool to talk about that stuff. I think it’s valuable and important. I wouldn’t worry too much about how she’ll feel about it, let’s focus on the delivery and also some aspects neither of you many know about.

  1. You BOTH should drink more water. It helps with bodily fluids and is also just good for you! A good way to start is by having a big glass of water first thing when you wake up. You’ll find yourself after a few days of doing this WANTING more water. It’s weird, but true.

  2. The pH level in a vagina is really important to keep balanced. It’s meant to be at a high acidity which is why sometimes you’ll get a weird coppery taste when eating a woman out. It’s meant to be acidic in order to keep it clean, so it’s naturally going to be somewhat bitter to the taste buds. With that being said, creams and soaps can throw off the pH balance and make the vagina itchy, dry, and very uncomfortable. Instead, try these things:

    • Recommend a probiotic for vaginal health.

Avoiding FODMAP should be something done, in my opinion, short-term to reduce symptoms. I do not think it is a good strategy long-term.
You must know that a lot of prebiotics are FODMAP, such as onion/garlic (these contain oligosacharides). Yet for me these oligosacharides are very important now since they help establish a healthy gut flora. They "feed" bacteria.
I personally am not a big fan of FODMAP avoidance. For me it didn't work. It might work for others, I strongly recommend to test things yourself. Since IBS is very complex everyone reacts differently.

I am supplementing with inulin as one of my prebiotics. This is a "pure" FODMAP. It caused me some bloating and gas yes. But I reduced the dosage, and started building up slowly. Within a few days I could already handle a couple grams more of inulin. Basically you are letting your garden of bacteria get accustomed to having a good amount to eat. (When they eat they produce gas).
Inulin raises beneficial bacteria including akkermansia / roseburia etc. These are very beneficial for a healthy gut flora.

There has been done a lot of research with adding prebiotics to a diet. They seem to greatly improve the health of the host. They do this by producing substances (short chain fatty acids) like butyrate, which have a repairing influence on the colon and other organs.

I also use this since a bit and it does help me into fixing that last 10%.

You should know that this is a high FODMAP thing. (Acacia gum). Yet look at the reviews and the positive effects they have for many people. I think a lot of people can greatly benefit from slowly building up with some prebiotics.

If you do decide to try out prebiotics, please make sure you start very very very low dosage!!!! There have been people starting out way too big getting huge bowel pains. (As in, typical huge IBS "attacks")

For probiotics I'd recommend things like sauerkraut/kimchi/kefir/kvass. (also start very slow, and make sure they're not heated/pasteurized. best is to make your own at home, it's easy! just check on google: "how to make x")

From my "journey" to fix this problem the best thing for me was to throw all "theories" out of the window, and just started experimenting.

Ok so ashawagandha is your heavy hitter here even though by itself it wont really come near xanax levels of "good". However, over time I have found these things to approach benzo levels of anxiety reduction. Like fairly quickly, weeks. And theyre sustainable, no prescription.

Now, you can also buy your own cpap and adjust the settings. Honestly, a lot of us went in for a sleep study and then got thrown to the fucking wolves. They send us off to the durable medical supply depot to get our cpap and set the setting then tell us good luck fella and we dont get our cpap to work for months/years. People here can help you adjust it, its easy.

For you, these things arent bad either.. Fish oil and vitamin d are good for overall health for anyone. Ashwagandha is specifically useful for chronic stress related anxiety. Buy some ear plugs and let him thrash himself out until you get it sorted. Its not mean, its love.

As others have said keeping her on the light side weight wise is really important, not malnourished or anything but light. I have all mine taking Glucosamine (this one from Amazon is what I buy ) and salmon oil. For me there was a definite difference in my older dog after he started it and it certainly can't hurt to start early. The orthopedic beds are great especially if you catch one on sale. I've gotten great deals at Petsmart before during holiday sales on really big ones. Or if you find a good deal on one you can cut up a foam mattress topper and diy a bed. I got some at Target super cheap and stuffed them into old dog bed covers I had.

And while I love reddit some of the best places for info on this kind of stuff are breed based forums.

Last reply before I need to get out of the house. Yes, fighting hunger can be tough, especially in the last hour or two of the 16-hour fast. I fight it by drinking water and coffee (not to excess, just a cup when hunger begins), and by staying busy with work to keep my mind off it. [Edit: R-Lipoic acid also has proven appetite-suppressant, weight loss effects.] It gets easier with time, as your body learns to accept a certain level of hunger, which sometimes even passes on its own. That, I believe, is a function of the body's improved handling of insulin levels. Just keep in mind that the human body didn't evolve to be constantly fed. For most of our evolutionary development, we experienced frequent but temporary levels of hunger as we hunted and gathered, before agriculture gave us a more steady supply of food, so remember that enduring a bit of hunger is actually much more healthy and natural than feeding the sensation the moment it pops up. After just a few weeks of intermittent fasting, contrary to myth that "breakfast is the most important meal," I felt noticeable improvements in energy and mental clarity throughout the day.

For my eating window, I don't bother trying to eat a commensurate amount of calories. I just eat normal-sized meals, without eating excess carbs (I'm not fully keto) in order to avoid blood sugar spikes and crashes. I have lunch at the end of my 16-hour window, then a protein bar or some trail mix for a light snack mid-afternoon, then a normal, healthy dinner. When I have lunch the next day depends on when I eat dinner (+16 hours, of course). I consume absolutely no food or sugar during the fast period (drink coffee black), as this will cancel out the benefits of the fast.

I dont know about leaky gut, but I have more energy and feel better doing keto (9 months in). I will say that I started doing supplements as well that have made some differences. I take a daily multi, potassium, and magnesium.

I do sleep a bit better since keto but what has made a HUGE difference is tart cherry extract. I got it to reduce muscle soreness and downtime between workouts (major difference) but apparently it also improves sleep. Massively for me. 45 minutes to an hour after taking it I get fairly tired and I no longer wake up 3-4 times a night. I sleep 6-8 hours straight without interruption and it's incredible.

Hi, I used to have the same problem with yeast infections. I use feminine probiotics (which are good for your stomach too!) that help break down my production of yeast. When I have an itching problem, I would use the restroom frequently throughout the day, even if I didn't feeling like going and just felt a little moist down there. I carried baby wipes in my purse to clean up down there. I use summer eves feminine wash in the shower and try best not to get shampoo or body soap down there to effect it.

I avoid certain foods and drinks. Anything that contains a lot of yeast, I cut back on them, replacing bread with salads and healthy food (though I still eat bread daily, just not as much all the time). I definitely had to quit drinking beer, after drinking beer, it made my sweat smell yeasty like bread. My boobs smelled like hot crossed buns when I drank beer frequently.

TL;DR: Take the feminine probiotic pill each day, eat yogurt each morning, avoid bread/beer/yeasty-things, wipe up when feeling moist down there, summers eve in shower. Also, wipe up good after sex, but don't clean inside your vagina though.

A couple years ago I was super stressed at life and doing 2-a-days to try to cope. The combo of stress and too much exercise led to hideous breakouts, which added more stress.

Everyone's skin and bodies are weird and wonderful in their own fun ways, but I went to a derm and my gyno, and this helped:

  • cut out dairy
  • wash face twice a day with Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and a Clarisonic (or just the cleanser if it was a mid-day shower), plus Cerave AM and PM moisturizers
  • changed birth controls (went from Nuvaring to Viorele but IANAD)
  • went on tetracycline for a few months (then had to go on a ~lady~ probiotic supplement for yeast infections/BV)
  • Retin A micro, introduced slowly

    Stuff that didn't work for me at all but sometimes works for other people:

  • drying topicals like clindamycin, BP, SA, tea tree oil, witch hazel, milk of magnesia
  • oil cleansing, coconut oil, washing with just water

    Like I say, this is what worked for me when I noticed what sound like similar symptoms to yours. Check out /r/skincareaddiction, and maybe go see some medical pros if you have the means. Good luck, and keep working out! Like others mentioned, most people don't even notice what other people at the gym look like.

I did some research a while back and concluded that most are junk but decided on these as the best of the bunch. This guy's review has a great explanation of what to look for.

I supplement it with Vitamin D, Calcium, Magnesium (this covers all those, although you still might want more D), and Omega-3. The citrate versions of the calcium and magnesium are more expensive, but absorb much better than the cheaper versions.

$15/lb for grassfed beef sounds really high. I can get grassfed ground beef for $5/lb at Wegmans & Trader Joes. Maybe there are cheaper options near you for that.

Diane Sanfilippo created a nice document (PDF) that breaks down the best quality to baseline quality in food choices. That can help you make choices as far as what meats to buy, etc. Here's her blog post that expands on the PDF.

If you do end up going away from grass-fed meats, try to supplement with fish oil if you can afford it (to balance your omega ratios). Amazon has Carlsons at a pretty good price.

I’m two months into a probiotic from RenewLife and I really like it. On my second month I switched to their “women’s” formula and it seems a little more improved than the regular one. I have some pretty weird GI issues anyway, but the probiotic has definitely helped my digestive system feel more “normal” than it has for a while.

RenewLife is easy to find either online, at Whole Foods, or I saw them at a Kroger store the other day. I order mine from Amazon, they don’t require refrigeration but I do once I open the bottle. This is the one I use and like. I put it on Subscribe & Save for extra convenience.

Pineapple (and/or bromelain) is one fix in the positive direction. Hydration is another. The fixes that minimize the negatives: less drinking, smoking, meat, dairy, spice. On that last note, you honestly might have been canceling things out with the cinnamon!

I think the turnaround time is half a day or less, by the way.

Try bromelain. It's the enzyme from pineapple, but much easier to eat and no calories. And it's pretty cheap. I think it works to break down the compounds that cause the nasty flavor. I'm pretty sure it's most effective if taken as "dessert" so it can go to town on the food in your belly. Be sure to take it after any meal that contains meat or spices.

I take the recommended dose every morning. But I would start out with 1 tablespoon to a good pint of water or juice. Do that for a week and then kick up to 2 tablespoons.

From time to time I won't take it for about a week or two just to let everything go back to normal.

I order it from Amazon. But word from the wise, don't waste your time or money with the pills or anything else. Brand is your own choosing, but always make sure it is "Whole Husk". There are also other supplements that I have heard people having better success with as well.

So if you're trying to add mass/strength, your biggest concern with going vegetarian is probably going to be getting enough protein. I try to take in like ~200g/day. You can calculate what you need here.

I personally get most of my protein from protein shakes. I use pea protein exclusively, this brand. Unfortunately, it comes from China but I can't pass on the price point. I also add peanut flour, cocoa powder, bananas, flax seed meal (good source of omega-3's), psyllium husk fiber (helps to slow down digestion of protein), BCAA's, creatine, and beta-alanine all in almond milk. The reason for some of those supplements can be found here.

Thanks to the fiber and the flax seed, it gets super thick almost like pudding if you let it sit. Usually, I'll mix in cold brewed coffee to get the consistency I want. It's really good. I drink like ~48 ounces a day, every day. Still have yet to get tired of it.

As far as recipes go, I try to eat high protein meals usually with beans/legumes and quinoa. I use tofu or tempeh as meat substitutes quite a bit too. I eat a lot of chili and curries. My instant pot (pressure cooker) is always getting used.

I also supplement with this multivitamin.

In response to the anti-protein focus comment, I guess I would say that I eat at a calorie deficit so it's hard to hit my protein targets unless I supplement. However, you should still count your macros at least at first to make sure you're getting in the range of where you should be.

I bought my lecithin on Amazon (here). But before that I found it in the supplement section of my local Whole Foods-type store.

Just some info: I feel like I've had better success in preventing clogs with sunflower lecithin (as opposed to soy), but I'm sure both work fine. I take 1 pill 4x/day.

And one more person chiming in: do not stop nursing on the side with your mastitis. I've had multiple rounds of mastitis, and I find that nursing on that side helps it heal much better than pumping.

How much beano did you add? And you were in the last like 10% of your target fermentation, I bet it would've had a more pronounced effect if you had added it around 1.080.

I think if you had used something like WLP1056/Wyeast 001 or 090 you would have gotten a lot farther - those yeasts are more likely to progress farther on fewer fermentables. Do you ever get packets of amylase at your LHBS like this but parted out? You only need like an oz to make a big difference. I did an all pumpkin mash with amylase + sorghum extract that turned out really well with some holiday spices. Is it still in secondary right now? You might split the batch into a control and test batch. Then try dropping like a whole oz in 2 gal, and letting that sit for the rest of the aging process. If you end up with a different FG at the end of the aging process we will know the amylase is doing some work and not anything else.

This is going to sound weird, I know, but the two most important things I honestly need right now are these two supplements:

Right now, these two supplements are the only reason I’m producing enough for my newborn. I have been out of my Fenugreek for a week now and I have had to use supplementing formula along with what scant amount of breastmilk I’ve been producing. The Sunflower Lecithin helps with my supply and prevents clogged ducts. I get chronic clogged ducts and have had double mastitis twice before using these.

It'd be easy to use olive oil, but your MUFA/SFA ratios may not be ideal. I'd like to remove dairy from my diet for the same reasons, but I still use heavy cream because it's easier and tastes better imo. (thankfully i'm on accutane so i'm free to binge on all the dairy i want and my face is fine)

I use this. I know this sub doesn't like Labdoor too much, but they rate it best for value. I take two capsules a day. I think I feel better when I take my fish oil consistently.

After getting more information and reading through your posts again, it sounds less and less like PCOS. Which means you don’t need to worry about that! It should put your mind at ease.

I’m not 100% clear on what your ultrasound showed, but it sounds like they were negative for PCOS. You’ve been told you don’t have PCOS, and that’s also what your symptoms show. The reason your doctor won’t listen to you about PCOS is because you’ve been tested for it and it’s been ruled out. It sounds like he was willing to be open to it by testing you, and then giving you the Metformin even though the tests were negative. But if the Metformin hasn’t worked and you don’t have the symptoms, the issues can’t be PCOS.
There are a lot of signs its not PCOS:


  1. You don’t have the main symptoms of PCOS. In order to have PCOS, you need to have:

  • Very irregular periods. Irregular means you’ve never had normal periods. (Skipping a few like you describe is normal and is probably stress-related).

  • Signs of hyperandrogenism (facial hair, etc.) Acne could be a sign, but since you don’t have the other two symptoms, it cant be PCOS. You need to have at least two very badly, or all three to have PCOS. The acne also started after you went on Metformin, which wouldn’t make sense with PCOS.

  • Polycystic ovaries on ultrasonound. (It sounds like you don’t have this, although it’s not 100% clear. I recommend calling your doctor and double checking this. If you can get a copy of your scans and post a photo of them, I can take a look and try to help you figure it out for sure).

  1. The Metformin didn’t help. Metformin is the treatment for PCOS, so if you had PCOS, your symptoms should have gotten better.

  2. Just because your mom had it, doesn’t mean you’ll have it. It’s not a guarantee at all. My grandma had PCOS. My mom doesn’t have it! Your mom may not have passed it down!

  3. The pains you describe sound like ovulation pains. It’s normal to have some cysts in the ovaries. That’s how women ovulate. In normal women, the cysts are basically eggs getting ready to be released. Ovulation is when a cyst bursts and releases an egg. This can be painful. It’s usually sharp pains like you describe. Having some other pains in the pelvic area is also common during ovulation and when you have a period.

  4. Some acne is normal. Even really bad acne doesn’t mean PCOS. It can be triggered by a lot of things. In your case, it sounds like it could be stress or even diet. It sounds like you might need to see a dermatologist who can figure out exactly what it is and how to fix it.



    I’m not sure why you were given Metformin. You should call your doctor’s office to see why you’re on it! (In addition to asking for your ultrasounds!)

    It also doesn’t sound like endometriosis at all. Which means you don’t need to worry about Tthat, which is great!

    You’re right, thoughts of suicide can be common in young people who take antidepressants. It’s definitely a risk. It sounds like you need to see a psychiatrist who can work with you to figure out how to best manage your depression and anxiety. In the mean time, there are some things you can do on your own that will help. I worked with a depression expert for a while, and medication actually isn’t all that effective unless you have very very severe depression (like can’t get out of bed, can’t eat, etc.) The two things that are even better than antidepressants (and have NO negative side effects) are:

  • Exercise. I know this isn’t exactly what you want to hear since it’s hard to get started and stick to. But even going on brisk walks 10 minutes a day is a start. In clinical trials, exercise actually helped more than antidepressants. It’s way more powerful than people think, but is obviously more effort than taking a pill. However, it doesn’t have any negative side effects and helps your body and mind in so many other ways. It will also help your weight and anxiety!

  • Taking a very high dose of Omega-3 oil has been proven to help depression, but you need to take a much, much higher dose than normal. A normal dose won’t make much of a difference. An average pill has about 150-300mg of Omega-3 in it (even if it says 1,000mg fish oil on the front label, you need to look on the back to see how much Omega-3 is in that fish oil). You need to take at least 3,000mg of Omega-3 per day. Not much more and not less. This will also help a lot with acne!

    It sounds like your relationship with your father has been frustrating. Just remember, you can only control what YOU do. You can not control what HE does. You’re in charge of your actions and your actions alone. If he won’t do something for you, you’ll just have to do it yourself. This isn’t always easy, but hopefully addressing your anxiety and depression issues will help you feel more able to manage life on your own!


    Edit: Since you’d need to take at least 7-8 normal pills a day to get the dose that helps with depression, I recommend this brand of Omega 3:

    It’s in liquid form, so you only need two teaspoons of this brand a day. It tastes like a light oily lemon flavor. No fish. I take this brand.     I know it’s expensive, but in my opinion it’s worth it. It will help with the depression, acne, and a lot of other things. It’s something that can really help you feel better mentally and physically, which would help you get back on track!

I had thrush and a clogged duct once, lactation consultant recommended this and I went three months without a problem, forgot to take it for a week and started to feel a clogged duct coming on. Took it, massaged/heated it and it went away. It lubricates your ducts so the fatty deposits don't get stuck as easily. It's also amazing for your skin, so that's a bonus! Downside, the pills are huge, but they're not too bad to take. You can also break them down to eat on applesauce or something, but I'm not sure how tasty it would be. Good luck!

You would need so much ginger that it would impart a very significant flavor to your beverage. You can go ahead and forget about subtle flavors in that case. Your best bet is to buy amylase on Amazon or at your LHBS.

Here's one option for amylase. This would last you through a huge number of batches. You only need a small amount for your entire batch, so you'll go through it very slowly.

If you really want to use natural amylase, get some malted barley and add it to the mash that you're going to have to make. You can pick this up at your LHBS too. They'll even help you mill it since you probably don't have the equipment to do it at home. Just ask for help and they'll give you what you need.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing this, I know it can be extremely frustrating. Two things that I found helpful were Boric Adid suppositories and probiotics. I linked to the ones that I used but there are so many other options out there for these products. I am not a fan of consistent use of antibiotics because eventually our bodies can develop resistance to them, so please be careful with them.

Boric Acid

You put the suppository in your vagina (usually at night) and symptoms cease sometimes within a day, but you should experience improvements within a couple of days. No odor, no itching, etc. I have heard of women who use these and their BV/yeast problems stop permanently. My period really messes with my ph balance, so I usually use them the last couple days of my period and then will use one if I ever have any symptoms come back. I experienced recurring BV since puberty, about 10 years, and this is the one thing that has brought instant, consistent relief without other negative side effects. I have heard of some people not having as much success, or even their own negative side effects, so I would look into that as well for you to balance the potential risk vs, potential benefit. Probiotics

Before using the Boric Acid, I used probiotics and found them to be very helpful but not as comprehensive as the BA suppositories. Within a week, many of my symptoms would cease, including any odor or itching (a very rare symptom for me), however my discharge would still seem a little off.

I would add,

  • taking a good probiotic has proven very beneficial to me. Also eating a lot of fermented foods. Fat fat Real yogurt, kefir, organic saurkraut, kimchi, Real pickles and olives, homemade kombucha. Most of the bodies seritonin release is controlled by the gut biome. Get that in order and your mood regulates and you'll feel better in general. Plus fixing general digestion issues.

    *Avoiding nsaids like aleve and ibuprofen can help heal the gut too. Use heat and cold for pain, and physical therapy. failng that, tylenol when really needed.

I tried a bit of it and it's true you can't tell it's cod liver oil but I thought the lemon flavor was pretty cloying. I can imagine you would still be able to taste it for some time after taking it unless you brushed your teeth afterwards (and maybe even then).

The only concern I would have is the type of vitamin a in the oil is highly absorbent and it's the type that builds up in your system. I don't know how long it would take to do so, but maybe taking it for awhile and then taking a break would be better.

I've tried almost every probiotic I could get my hands on and to be honest, the only one that has actually helped were the ones that are refrigerated made by Garden of Life RAW. I have been using RAW Probiotics Ultimate Care by Garden of Life for about a year or so and it drastically improved my IBS and I know this is gross but I rarely have diarrhea anymore. Here's the Amazon Smile link. The only problem is because it needs to be kept refrigerated, I buy mine from a local health food/supplement store and it costs about $53 for a 30 day supply. Buying it online seems to be much cheaper but the problem is that you have to pay for overnight shipping and an ice pack so it actually ends up being about $55-65 depending on which vitamin website you check out. I've looked all over and can't find it anywhere cheaper than just getting it from my local store and that way I know it was kept cold so the good bacteria stay alive. I actually found a test that anyone can do on any probiotic to see if it works or not, and it's a great test because it shows how many probiotics are out there that claim to be great and really don't do anything and are a complete waste of money. From what I've learned, avoid any probiotics that aren't refrigerated. If buying a probiotic, chances are you will need to avoid Walmart and local grocery stores and go to an actual health food and supplement shop and check in their refrigerated section. I tried almost every "probiotic" sold at Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, and my local grocery stores and none of them did anything. It was a huge waste of time and money. So going to your local vitamin/supplement shop and finding their refrigerated section is usually the best way to go unless you like wasting money.

If she is willing to try the probiotics, you should couch PIV sex for maybe a month or two and see how she is feeling on the probiotics.

I really like taking it when I’m at work but I tend to sleep way to much on the weekends. I wonder if that’s because of the Kratom.

Do you take on an empty stomach or after a meal? Also, you should try taking two teaspoons of Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar before.

I usually take two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar before my Kratom first thing in the morning, eat my breakfast Taco when I get to work, and then at 10am drink my Joe Rogan Green Kale Shake to maximize my mood. It’s fucking amazing. Your body will thank you for drinking the shake by boosting your mood.

The only thing I can compare the shake to is the feeling you get after two beers but without the cloudy feeling. Just talkative and in a good mood.

Definitely get a wrist brace, they will support your tendons and make a world of difference. I like these ones.

Also it's worth doing some exercises every day. I get tennis elbow and other tendon problems now and again and use a Theraband flexbar. There's a flexbar exercise called the Tyler Twist which is good for the tendons. The bar comes with a booklet showing a lot of exercises you can do with it.


Finally, consider taking astaxanthin every day. It's an antioxident with anti-inflammatory properties which really helps with tendon problems. You might also get some good results by taking a turmeric supplement (or adding it liberally to your food).

You should get some Coenzyme Q10, Omega-3 Fatty Acids (ie fish oil or algae oil), Astaxanthin, and lots and lots of Garlic. Your heart and cardiovascular system will thank you.

Also make sure to exercise (not while on stimulants) regularly and vigorously (heart rate is up for a while), be mindful of your salt intake, be mindful of your trans/saturated fats (processed foods), and try to download/use a meditation app like Headspace.

I’m a bit confused by your initial post, but if I’m reading this correctly, this is an extract beer. My remaining comments will assume this is correct.

The biggest issue with malt extract is that you don’t know the mash temperature. Therefore, you don’t know the fermentability of the wort. This impacts the attenuation.

Given where you are, you may want to consider using some alpha amylase enzyme. It’s used in Bruit IPAs to dry them out. You may need to add a small amount of sugar and more yeast to get it working though.

As far as flavor goes, anything goes. Dry hops, oak spirals, bourbon, fruit, etc.

In reference to u/wedgienoise4000’s comment about adding Brettanomyces, yes it can both dry out the beer and potentially add flavor. In most cases, Brett will not make the beer very sour. In low levels, you’re get a tropical character that pairs great with hops. In higher levels, you get an earthy, complex funk, but you should not get a tart sourness.

Buckets are really better as primary fermentation containers if you're using fruit, since it's easier to stir things up and mix the layer on top back in. This should still be fine, just try capping it and rolling it around a bit to mix that floating layer back in.

Also, when using real fruit, a bit of amylase enzyme can help break down the starches.

I track my intake on cronometer so it's nice that I've been able to look what vitamins/minerals I don't get enough of... my current focus is trying to save my hair so here's my current regimin:

1st thing in the morning 1/2 a tablet of this Iron w/ vitamin C with a full glass of water. I don't eat or drink anything else until at least an hour later.

With breakfast: this multivitamin. I've found it to be the most complete in terms of what I'm usually deficit in. Its one of the only multis that I found with a good amount of zinc.

Glucosamine for my joints.

And an omega 3. I choose this one because it has a good ratio of EPA to DHA.

With lunch: another multivitamin (the serving size is 3 capsules, so I spread them throughout the day because i feel like that would be better for absorption,

vitamin E

15g collagen

With dinner: The last multivitamin, another glucosamine tablet, and another omega.

I also make sure I eat dark leafy greens each day, pay attention to my calcium, and spend time in the sunshine. Otherwise I would supplement vit k, vit d, and calcium

And all that adds 107 calories to my intake. Which is sad, but worth it.

The growth hormones and high does of antibiotics that are fed to cows scare the crap out of me. If you're going to eat yogurt, I would make sure it's organic to protect yourself. Oh and do try to eat plain yogurt with as little sugar as possible, like everyone else said.

Personally, I stay away from dairy, so here is how I get the same nutrients:

Yogurt contains cultures of healthy bacteria (called probiotics) which your body does not produce on its own. This bacteria helps your digestive track break food down, among other things. You can gain the same benefit from taking a probiotic supplement. I take this one because it is the most potent. Pay attention to how many billion bacteria are in each pill when you are comparing prices. FYI - If you ever take an antibiotic, it kills a lot of that good bacteria in your gut while it's killing the bad stuff, so make sure you take a probiotic supplement then especially.

As far as protein, there are other, more complete ways for you to get protein. I recommend quinoa which is a grain-like crop that tastes like a nutty rice. The reason why quinoa should be a staple of your diet is it contains a complete set of the 8 amino acids your body needs (and again, does not produce). Not all proteins have this distinction.

Most people with auto-immune disorders are linked to having low levels of Vitamin D. Becareful to get your doctor's orders on what your levels should be to replete your stores and what to maintain. I was taking a 55K IU D3 pill for three months then maintenance at 1000-2000k IU daily until summer, then alternated every other day. Everyone stores Vitamin D at different levels. I'd definitely get that checked out.

I don't want to scare you with any of this but I with someone had told me these things.

Swelling can be terrible but will not be bad if you get on top of it right away. Don't wait till the next day, start that evening with ice packs. For swelling have frozen bags of peas on-hand for the first day as well as small nugget or crushed ice for later. I liked to use quart size baggies filled with ice with a paper towel between the bag and my face. Keep the pressure off your nose for the first few days, just hold it along side on the cheeks and forehead. The more you ice the less pain meds you need.

Take ibuprofen for swelling/pain every 4 to 6 hours the first few days (check with you Dr. and make sure he approves). Mine said he'd rather me take that then narcotics for pain. Also takeBromelain Arinica Montana for swelling and start about 3 days before the surgery and keep taking them for several weeks. You can use the pills or cream Arinica to help with bruising/swelling. I used both. You will be bruised and it will be 10 to 14 days before it's all gone. About day 10 you can go in public with foundation and not attract attention. Compared to the other girls that were with me and had the same surgery I looked much much better much quicker and I think it was the use of these.

Expect a lot of bleeding out your nose. It's normal and expected for the first week. Also have some saline nasal spray on hand. You use it to irrigate the nose several times a day the first couple of weeks and then you are suppose to keep you nose moist for the first 6 weeks. I went through about a dozen bottles the first 2 months.

The best day ever is around day 5 when the packing comes out. During surgery your surgeon will pack you sinus and nasal passages with gauze to hold the shape and control bleeding. It feels millions of times better when all that is pulled out. They will remove it in the office and it's scary but really does not hurt much. The tape removal will be worse but still nothing you can't handle. Just be sure you have taken ibuprofen recently (if allowed).

Be ready for a long period of swelling on your nose. At first it will look huge. It took about 5 months for mine to lose all the swelling. Also the scar along the hairline will look 10 times worse than it is and will heal fairly quickly. The first few days will be a blur if you take narcotics for pain, I took Ibuprofen for pain and it was never worse than a bad headache but the girls that use the hard narcotics always seem to have more pain and a longer recovery. I was up and around the next day and by day 4 could go out had I wanted to (but didn't for 2 weeks).

You can't wear glasses or sunglasses for a few weeks and you also want to keep you scars out of the sun.

Sure! Here is Feeling Good and here is Intimate Connections. They're both by David Burns, and Feeling Good is considered the most effective book for overcoming depression. I have been chronically depressed my entire life, and this book has helped me feel better and better, much more than therapy did. I might even write a letter to Dr. Burns to thank him.

The essence of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is that your moods are created by your cognition. The world lacks any inherent meaning: your brain simply gives it meaning when it processes its sensory input into thought:

> Events -> Thoughts -> Emotions

So by eliminating the false and irrational thinking patterns associated with depression, one can improve their mood greatly. Feeling Good covers everything from building self-esteem, to anger, love and approval addictions, perfectionism and guilt. Whilst reading it, I felt as though I was reading a documentary of my own dysfunctional thought patterns. But it was comforting to realize that I'm not alone. Since its introduction in 1980, Feeling Good has sold over 3 million copies. I only wish I had heard about it sooner.. I'm surprised my therapist didn't recommend it last year when I was seeing her.

Another book I'd recommend (though it's not the end-all-be-all that its title implies) is The Depression Cure. It doesn't measure up to Feeling Good on its own, because it doesn't really address the dysfunctional cognitions that lie at the core of depression (besides telling you to simply stop thinking them, which isn't really adequate in my opinion). However, The Depression Cure does advocate simple lifestyle changes you can start today which have a clinically proven effect of lifting mood. The basic tenets are:

  • Humans used to be hunter gatherers, and depression is nonexistent among hunter gather societies. The unnatural western lifestyle of poor diet, not enough sunlight, limited sleep and physical activity only serve to exacerbate the symptoms of depression.
  • Supplement with Omega-3 fatty acids. In particular, you want the chemicals EPA and DHA (~1000mg and ~500mg/day, respectively) , essential fats that your body can't synthesize on its own. They are highly deficient in the western diet, but crucial for proper brain function. Clinical studies show that Omega-3 supplementation is more effective at combating depression than SSRIs, probably because they improve the function of serotonin.
  • Supplement with Vitamin D, an essential nutrient many people are deficient in, especially in northern latitudes and winter months. Also try to set your circadian rhythm by exposing yourself to sunlight in the morning.
  • Get 8 hours of sleep per night.
  • Stop ruminating (mulling over negative thoughts) and jump-start to perform productive actions instead.
  • Get connected to some social activity.
  • Add an aerobic exercise a few times per week.. even something as simple as a walk around town.

    All of these lifestyle changes are clinically proven to improve health and alleviate depression. I'm sold on the Omega-3 supplementation, because of the whole host of other health benefits it provides (see links on EPA and DHA above).

I just order this fiber supplement. It's pure psyllium, unlike Metamucil which is full of sugar (including the sugar-free version).

For vitamins, I take a Centrum and I don't even take it every day. I eat 95% my carbs from plant sources, so I mostly get what I need and the vitamin pill's only there to make up the difference, not be the main source.

I have been taking a combo vitamin-D/calcium pill. There's not much sun these days and I don't eat that much dairy, so I think it's important to supplement these.

Fish oil's pretty good too, but it's expensive. I prefer to spend the money on fresh fish, personally.

I was in a similar boat to you: sex with someone new was a mix of excitement, slight fear stemming from performance anxiety, and simply nervousness. I'm sure you can relate to the feelings of emasculation when a man can't be a "man" - we all know it's embarrassing to say the least!

I take adderall, which gives me a permanent dopamine boost all day, followed by a seemingly permanent deficiency at the end of the day and beyond; in addition, I'm exist in a state of "fight or flight" because of how adderall interacts with your systems and pumps adrenaline, always. My libido was absolutely shot and I had similar problems to you. I was getting pretty desperate. I tried a lot of stuff, did a lot of research, tried more things, but ultimately, most, if not all, of it went no where.

I found some forums after entering [ +"adderall" +"libido loss"] into Google (without the [ ]) and found a wealth of information after sorting through the shit. I'd searched before, had varied success, but this time was different - I took the time to dig, research, find, and learn!

Often users of prescription meds like adderall, opiates, or anti-depressants find that libido destruction is a primary side effect, an exceedingly common one; the good news, however, is that loads of dudes are fed up having the same problems and have taken their issues into their own hands - they guinea pigged their bodies, desperate for resolution! These dudes are basically martyrs, so bless them for their diligence and hard work!

The solutions I found were interesting.

I learned that people often take some combination of the following pills; for me, however, I just bought them all and have experimented with doses, frequency, and combinations.

  • DHEA

  • L-Arginine

  • Fish Oil

  • L-Theanine

    Adderall also plays with my blood pressure and, with everything else, namely adrenaline, my extremities aren't getting the proper blood flow; since taking these supplements, I now wake up with erections again --something I didn't realize had stopped happening!-- and have erections hard enough to club a seal to death with.

    These have been an absolute god-send for me.

    If you don't happen to read this, then I hope this helps someone else.

What you could do is mix some rice up with Amylase and then any old wine yeast should do it. Just taste it to make sure its sweet and you should be in business. Just make sure that the rice isnt to warm when doing so or you will denature the enzyme.

Well, I would say you should add some things that aren't particularly high protein, just mostly fat. With your current ratio it seems like you're probably getting plenty of protein.

So here's some foods that are mostly fat that I enjoy. Coffee with heavy cream. Macadamia nuts. Avocados. Cream cheese (yep, just straight up cream cheese). Olives. You get the idea.

I also supplement some oils. I drink a tbsp of Carlson fish oil every day to ensure my Omega 6/Omega 3 ratio is good. I also drink 2 tbsp of MCT oil every day before my bike ride because Medium chain triglycerides are highly ketogenic.

At any rate I get 70+% of my daily calories from fat, more if I do a lot of cardio so it's certainly possible to eat a lot more fat. I don't eat a lot of red meat, pork, or just meat in general either but in my case it's because they're a bit too high in protein (relative to fat) for my purposes.

I should have stated that i was throwing out a cost effective way. In anycase.

Non sugar based protein powders are fat and carb based. They still have sugar, but not as much.

Hell he could go the coconut oil route but a cup of coconut oil has the came calories as a cup of an average protein powder. And even though I like coconut oil's taste, I don't think many people could stomach that much.

Other oils that have more calories don't taste very good(peanut, vegtable).

Actually just remembered this cod liver oil is high in calories and vitamins, and doesn't taste bad at all. I used to take a tablespoon a day when I was still in the Army. But a tablespoon is only 130 calories

I'm allergic to nuts, but that's a decent source iirc, though not sure on the cost effectiveness. Peanut butter falls under this category.

I'm not sure of many other cost effective + decent tasting alternatives of greatly increasing calorie count.

I just buy this off amazon and it works quite well. It's not like trying to find a potent source of phenibut or piracetam, L-theanine is quite easy to get. Here is a good post on L-theanine's effects.

Also, it is found in tea and other things but not in a sufficient dosage enough to really cause any noticeable effects and is worth supplementing.

I just bought a bottle in the mail from Amazon. I've read people on here who use it to deal with the evening comedown. Since I'm giving meds another whack here soon, I wanted to have some on hand, as when I was on meds before I largely used beer to remedy the condition of which you speak. Congrats! Reminds me of when I finally banished the repeat bacterial vaginosis from hell I had on and off for YEARS. Every time I went to the doctor I would get a script for antibiotics that resulted in a yeast infection that would cause BV and start the cycle all over again.

Then finally after seeing a thread on using probiotic supplements I gave it a try and it was almost instant relief. This stuff is a miracle. Makes me kinda mad that doctors don't at least suggest some of these options! Taking some OTC probiotics or changing your TP is a lot easier and cheaper than tests and medications.

I used to have a great article on fish oil that I can't effing find right now. Basically, you have to make sure you're getting the right amount of EPA and DHA from your fish oil. The majority of the capsules won't get you enough of a daily quantity.

This is the fish oil I use. It's just tolerable. The capsules are far easier to take but I had a lot of trouble finding capsules that had enough. You want anywhere from 2-4 grams of EPA and DHA, and the ratio has to be correct.

Good news, I did this too not too long ago, and experimented with a fix (for beer, and for science!). Go to your LHBS (or Amazon) and purchase a small bottle of amylase enyzme and add it to your fermenter in the recommend quantity.

ALA in it's alpha form isn't the best product to take. You end up pissing out most of it. It doesn't absorb well at all. Ever notice your urine stinks when you take it? R- Lipoic Acid is absorbed much better.

R-Lipoic Acid This is the one I take. I started taking it for the very reason you claimed, it helps when you overdue a carb here or there and with me being hypoglycemic and occasionally having bouts of reactive hypoglycemia (esp when I eat to much protein) it helps keep that under control. I've been taking this fiber supplement for about two weeks now and haven't had diarrhea since. I still have yet to find my ideal dose (I have mixed with excruciating cramps), but I'm very happy with how things are going so far. Usually drinking alcohol gives me bad diarrhea the following day, but I've had a couple nights of drinking since starting taking this fiber and had one solid BM the next day. Note that if you buy the pill form the dossage is really low. Each pill is about 1.5% of your daily fiber need so you'd need to take literally a handful each day to have some noticeable effect. The loose form (that you mix in with water) seems to allow you to easily take a bigger dosage.

Have you tried taking sunflower lecithin? My milk is very thick and fatty, so nursing was painful until I started taking it 3x a day at first, then I dropped down to 2x a day. It basically helps your milk flow a little more smoothly. Other than that, time will cure a lot of the pain as your nips toughen up. But definitely try lecithin for immediate relief. This is the brand I use.

Eating more fiber will definitely help you get your shit together :). I've had chronic irritable bowel syndrome for years, and found that acacia gum powder pretty much prevents any problems. IBS sufferers have found that it helps keep things stable and regular whether you suffer from diarrhea or constipation. Other gum powders like dextrin can also work well, but acacia is good because it's totally tasteless, odorless, and dissolves well in both hot and cold drinks (but nothing carbonated) without thickening the liquid. It basically just disappears into the drink and you can't tell it's there. I take a tablespoon in a glass of Crystal Light 3 times a day, and it has no effect on my BGs at all since it's totally nondigestable (which is the point).

Hmm. Well the only advice I can give, outside of another doctors apt for a second opinion, is what's worked for me for reoccurring bv. I started taking 800 mcg Folic Acid and a probiotic vaginal supplement.

The probiotic can be found at Walgreens and other such places. There are also vaginal probiotics that require refrigeration which also work. I stopped with this eventually because I can't get it where I currently live but kept up with the folic acid and still haven't had an issue since.

As previously mentioned, you have to do something to convert the starch into sugars. Koji produces amylase enzymes (which are also present in malt), that break starches down into sugars. If you're looking for something easier than making a mash or using koji, you can buy amylase enzymes. Basically mix your cooked rice with water and a bit of enzyme, and hold at 150F until the starches are broken down. Could be a few hours.

That's when you yell at your colon "THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS" hahah. But yeah, try the half cap for a bit and then try and stop it if you feel your body has a handle on things. I've heard long-term stool softener dependency has unpleasant consequences.

You could also try switching up your probiotic. I had luck with Garden of Life Raw: Ultimate Care and kind of disastrous luck with a different one. I think it all depends on what your gut flora is missing (or has in excess) which one will benefit you best. It's a guessing game.

If you take anything with caffeine, consider lowering your intake.

Try some green tea as an alternative. It has compounds that will mellow you a bit without making you drowsy (not sedatives)

You can actually get this stuff in pill form. L-Theanine is just about the only thing that stops my racing mind and bouncing leg :P then again I have very acute ADHD, but a lot of people couple a pill with their coffee to take the edge off, or use it for making presentations or general anxiety/over-energy management

I took 3600mg/day (I got the NOW Sunflower Lecithin and it's 1200mg/cap so I took three of them a day) until the clogs stopped showing up... maybe 4-6 weeks. After that, I took a maintenance dose of 1 a day and would up it to 3/day if I felt the lump come back.
