I'm using Overstock as a source of products/examples but obviously you can get stuff wherever. If you're willing to sift through lots of crap, Craigslist can be a fantastic source for nice secondhand things (I say this as someone who has furnished most of my house from CL).

  • Agreed, the room definitely needs a bigger rug. It'll make the room look bigger. It doesn't have to fit the room perfectly (you're not going to be there forever) but it should at least be big enough that it fills the space and both front legs of the sofa can sit on it. I wouldn't go too dark, or it'll show fluff/dust/cat hair really easily. A natural-fiber rug like jute could look really cool and the neutral color goes with everything.

  • Definitely ditch that torchiere lamp when you get a chance. They read very "college student." Something like this could be a cool replacement, over in the corner between the TV and balcony once the towers go.

  • For now, flank the couch with the two Ikea side tables and put a pair of lamps on them. If you like a midcentury look, consider large, warm-colored lamps and look for straight-up-and-down drum shades rather than flared.

  • Speaking of the end tables, consider replacing them at some point. No shame in the Ikea stuff, we all started there, but an upgrade will look more "adult." Craigslist is a good place to start.

  • Hot tip as you appear to be an enjoyer of fine beverages: you can make really great-looking coasters out of tumbled travertine tile from Home Depot if you stick those little rubber bumper feet underneath.

  • And while we're on the topic of beverages, once you ditch the towers (which you should do), the bottles could go on a bar cart about where the cat's bowl is now. Something with a gold or silver frame, or something like this in white would look great. Realistically, you're better off keeping your bar tools (strainer, jiggers, etc.) over in the kitchen area where you'll actually be prepping the drinks, but an ice bucket could be a great (and functional) mid-century-ish accent. I'd put it at a slight angle for visual appeal (so the room doesn't look like everything is lined up against the walls).

  • Plant reorg ideas -- once the towers are gone, flank your TV console with those two cute little "ball" trees. Zebra grass can go on your computer desk as a nice vertical accent. That cool succulent glass pot could go on the bar cart.

  • Agree on an ottoman in front of the couch -- it's great to have a place to put your feet up. Something like this does triple duty -- footrest, trays if you need a place to put a drink, AND storage.

  • For art above the couch, you can get inexpensive frames at Michaels once you find a set of prints you like.

  • For hockey gear, you might consider an outdoor-friendly drying rack that you can drape/clip your stuff on.

  • Think about a bistro set for sitting outside in nice weather (with a fancy drink in hand!). This in teal could be funky, or something more like this if you prefer a more traditional look.

Oh man. Brace yourselves, I am a total Amazon junkie. (Note: These may not all be BIFL, but I'm responding to the OP in specific.)

  • $9 butter keeper. (I bought a slightly different one that's no longer available, but it's the same basic design.) Keeping butter that isn't for cooking or baking in the fridge is for chumps. Mine is always perfectly spreadable room temperature while staying fresh for weeks... sometimes months.

  • $9 TV antenna. I didn't own a TV until a few years ago, and it didn't have a built-in antenna. I don't watch much broadcast TV, so I grabbed the cheapest one I could find. Case in point for why digital is better than analog, this one picks up every digital channel perfectly.

  • $13 shoe rack (now $18). Over the past year of living in this flat, I'd developed a bad tendency of kicking my shoes off at the bottom of the stairs just inside the front door. This looked like a cheap piece of shit, but I figured for the price I couldn't go wrong. Now almost every single pair of shoes I own is in one spot where it's easy to grabā€”and, more importantly, everything's out of the way of people coming in and out of the house.

  • $14 jug of earplugs (50 pair). Essential for sleeping with the window open in loud neighborhoods, sharing rooms with snoring friends on a trip, or sharing beds with snoring dudes or gals you're sleeping with. These were also my go-to earplugs for shows until I got a pair that's better for listening to music.

  • $22 electric kettle. The coffeemaker in our office puts out water that isn't nearly hot enough for a proper cuppa, and I got sick of microwaving it to boiling a mug's worth at a time. No bells and whistles, but it's performed perfectly since day one, with no breaking-in period like you get with kettles that have plastic parts in contact with the water.

  • $32 32'/10m HDMI cable. Ran it between the computer in my bedroom and the TV in my living room, allowing me to watch all kinds of streaming TV and downloaded videos with friends in a spot more comfortable than standing in front of my desk.

  • Slightly over the $50 limit, but $53 space heater. My best friend and roommate is one of those dudes who's built like a furnace, and our place uses radiators for heat. We had a few days of him sweating his ass off even with the thermostat set to 68, before I realized that we could just turn it way the hell down, and I could heat my own bedroom separately. This sucker dumps out a ton of heat, with a slew of features to sweeten the deal (my favorite being the remote control).

  • Another that's slightly over, but $55 garment steamer. Collapses small enough to fit pretty much anywhere I've ever needed to store it, puts out steam within maybe 30 seconds of turning it on, and with a full tank has enough water to steam as many items as I've ever needed to do in a row. I haven't touched my iron once since I bought this thing, and my only regret is not buying one as soon as I started college over a decade ago.

And, saving the best for last:

  • $43 heated footrest. Hands-down, this is one of the best things I've ever bought in my life. I was looking for an unobtrusive, unobnoxious way to help myself stay warm in the office, which tends to be chillier than my taste year-round. When I opened it up, I was skeptical, since it looked like a cheap injection-molded piece of shit. Now, I'm pretty sure I'd rescue it from a fire before my mother. I don't want to imagine ever trying to get through another winter without it.

EDIT: As requested by /u/Mogrix, I posted List Part II: Electric Boogaloo, with more items from my Amazon history.
u/mr_richichi Ā· 3 pointsr/Baking

I got some pretty good baking swag this year.

First up was a Kopykake. I will be making disgusting amounts of cookies over the next year putting this thing to the test.

A KitchenAid Architect was shocked to see it was the full set as these are stupid expensive.

Possibly my favorite gift for kitchen stuff this year was DrawerDecor which has finally made my drawers a non clusterfuck.

Steel prep table similar to this but not this model. Got it before Christmas but was told it was an early xmas gift.

Wire Shelving similar to this, but again not this model. Its 4' wide and each shelf can take 600. It freed up SO much room for me. I highly recommend more shelving for any of you guys/gals who have the room for it.

18" Magnetic Knife Strip, again more stuff out of shelves, off of counter tops etc.

Glass mixing bowls

Last but certainly not least, I finally got this cookie sheet from chicago metallic. Such a nice piece.

Now I think it is worth noting that I bake for a living, and that most people don't actually want a prep table or a 3' tall projector in their kitchen but damnit I love it! :)

The main theme for this xmas seems to be helping me get my kitchen to the OCD level needed in a professional kitchen. Not sure the missus loves the strict flow of kitchen as much as I do but man, it feels good and looks great.

u/batshelter Ā· 69 pointsr/guns

I just thought I would share my gunroom converted from an extra bedroom for anyone out there looking for some inspiration. Iā€™ll try to provide a full breakdown for anybody that needs some more things to put on their Christmas list this year.

The Sturdy Safe was the best and most budget-friendly safe option I could find. Itā€™s not the prettiest but it doesnā€™t need to be for my purposes. This is the 1148-6 model without fire liner and the #2 standard rack that fits 60 long guns.

You definitely will want some sort of lighting system for your safe. I rigged up some LED strip lights from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005EHHLD8/) and used a staple gun to secure them to the underside of the shelves. It could be done a lot neater if you want to cut and solder the LEDs but this way still looks fine when youā€™re looking at it from standing height. The precut hole in the back of the safe is not very big so I bought a electric outlet, box and wire from the hardware store and rigged up an electric outlet inside the safe. Some type of switch for the lights would be nice but as of right now I just plug and unplug it from the wall.

I keep an extra gun cabinet next to the safe with a couple shotguns that are beyond repair and some cheap air guns. I figure a ā€œsmash-and-grabā€ type thief might go for the easiest target so it creates a little diversion. A Foscam IP camera and a dedicated motion-sensor connected to the alarm give me additional peace of mind.

The work-bench is just an old IKEA desk I was no longer using. Itā€™s not the most sturdy but it does the job.

If youā€™re looking for ammo storage Iā€™ve been very happy with these Whitmor shelves from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007MHD1K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Each shelf holds up to 350 pounds, it was easy to set up, and they seem to be very sturdy.

Okay, so I was browsing your wish lists and this scarf holder made me (i'm somewhat lame...) really excited! I haven't seen one before and it would solve my scarf storage issues... I'm a flouncy Drama student, I own a lot of flouncy colourful scarves, but never know where to keep them. You are one smart cookie. :)

This book is very high on my book wish list right now, because I'm writing a play. And why is that awesome? Because I'm writing a play! And directing it! And I'm excited... :P

Anyway, long post... let's be twinsies :)

  1. When you wish upon a star
  2. I'd have to say it is Frozen. Absolutely loved it.
  3. I constantly find myself singing Do you want to build a Snow man, but I also loved the In summer song too. Ok ok I loved every song!
  4. I'd love this if I win!

    Thanks for the contest!

I have this one and love it, but didn't pay that much for it:
Cresnel Stainless Steel Clothes Drying Rack - Adjustable Gullwing and Foldable for Easy Storage - Rust-proof for Indoor and Outdoor Use https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KQU1C60/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_InklDb1D1C7R8

It's can easily dry a full load of laundry on it -- more if I use hangers too. Fabric softener helps, only thing that doesn't dry well has been flannel, I'm sure there's a trick to it. I use it inside (apartment) but would love to use this outside if I could. Super lightweight but is sturdier than the one in this post.

Highly recommend for everyone, but especially for apartment renters -- cuts your washing cost in half. The zigzag kind are awful, do yourself a favor and get something like this...clothes horse (never heard that term but I'll be using it now).

u/DrOCD Ā· 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My favorite movie, currently, is The Awakening. So good.

A little blurb about me: I am in undergrad right now studying clinical psychology and theatre (performance and technical theatre). I have a dog named Leo and he's kind of a buttface, but I love him. He's a shitzu. I go to school in a different state so I'm only home for three months a year (which can actually be too much). I really love to boil a Potato and then put Sriracha on it. Probably one of my favorite foods, actually. I spend most of my summer time working at a movie theater or playing video games. This bedside remote caddy would be nice for my dorm room.

Are these cloth diapers or disposable? What is the current capacity for reference?

Either way, I would go with a plastic step bin. Hard plastic is easy to periodically clean and disinfect, even if it isn't as pretty. Plus, you can usually attach a charcoal filter to the inside of the lid, especially with higher end models or separately if you buy an attachable sleeve that sticks to the inside of the lid. This can help mitigate any lingering smells. If you want something study, simplehuman makes plain ol' 13 gallon step cans, and it will last a lifetime because the parts are replaceable.

simplehuman 50 Liter / 13 Gallon Semi-Round Kitchen Step Trash Can, Black Plastic With Secure Slide Lock

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003VWMS5E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_M6cEDbAG7K40C

Lower end, I recommend the sterilite and Rubbermaid cans in the same half-round shape. They are usually offered as a step can or a touch top (basically a step button you push at the lid), so you can determine what is best for him to use.

Rubbermaid Touch-Top Lid Trash Can for Home, Kitchen, and Bathroom Garbage, 13 Gallon, White

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KX15Z1A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_n9cEDbYY82KWN

If disposable, you can get any size you are comfortable lifting the contents of (9 - 13 gallon, but I wouldn't go higher than that because wet things get heavy and repetitive motions are dangerous with adult care) and just use the right size plastic bag.

If you are talking cloth, there are pul liners which perfectly fit a sterilite 6 gallon step can, maybe other sizes too (edit: that can be washed with the diapers). However, they aren't always leak proof so ymmv, especially the larger you go. Let me know if you want recommendations for them. Best of luck!

Pretty easy and straight forward. Very easy to set up. I had built a wood rack but felt this would be easier and more upgradable. It takes up very little room and it adjustable without cutting a single thing! Just check the dimensions for what will suit your needs. Mine is 36" wide and accommodates 2x systems on top and possibly 2x more systems on the bottom. Here are some links for the part links below. I went with the black one since it had a lower chance of conductivity. I made sure to put some fitting cardboard under the mobo just in case. I used twisty ties to hold the cards up which worked great. Could use some thing Zip-Ties if you know how you want it and can leave it. I had to move mine around a bit so the twisty ties were easier.

First of all, I want to say I'm sorry you're dealing with this. This must be so frustrating and hard for you & your family. I do think there are times when a dog needs to be rehomed, and I wouldn't judge you for doing that if you & your family decide that's best for everyone. Biting people is unacceptable behavior, especially with little kids around.

That said, there are two things that come to mind as ideas for you. When our dogs started getting into the trash, we bought a locking trash can like this one for the kitchen, and kept the doors to other rooms with trash cans shut. Immediate improvement there.

Without seeing how you interact with your dog, it's hard to tell what's going on in terms of discipline, but I'm not sure "ignore her behavior & not scold" is a good solution. Have you brought in a dog trainer for an in-home consultation? Classes are one thing, but I wonder if having a trainer observe you guys might give you some more insight in what's going on.

Good luck and my sympathy to you guys =(

edit: also, looks like r/dogtraining exists and might be helpful to you too....

Right now I am relaxing a bit, then I will clean a little, and then I teach my graphic narrative class this afternoon.

I think you need this so you can keep all of your essential revision tool and your break things, without having to relocate. XD

Something fun on my wishlist is this Harley Quinn graphic novel because I teach graphic narrative and my favorite comicbook gal is Harley Quinn. :P

Who needs revision?!

Hey! I'm going to be going to the California School of Culinary Arts for my first year of college this fall! I love cooking and I want to open a restaurant someday! I also want to get a degree in business and managing.
Here is what I want for my room. It's a mattress side book and remote caddy! I think you would like it too! It seems like a good storage thing to have and you can keep your favorite books in it.
Thanks for having a contest! :)

Another good option is to just make yourself a little 4-6" shelf with some plywood and spare boards and set your monitor on that.

Or if you want the glorious machine easier to see, buy one of these. It's what I use and it looks great and makes the case easy to access.

u/henriettagriff Ā· 8 pointsr/asktransgender

Always make sure you're not at risk of dye leakage - either from the surface you are drying on to your clothes or vice versa (ie, new-ish furniture could color your clothes, or your new jeans could color a white sofa).

I used a bed, the backs of chairs i trusted wouldn't bleed on my clothes, or I spaced out when I washed lay-flat stuff. I would recommend a space efficient clothes drying rack you can take up and down - you could always load your clothes on it and then put it on your bed.

We currently have one that looks a lot like this and those wings are good spaces to lay flat.

remember, sweaters have to lay flat or else they'll develop the shape of the hanger in the shoulders - most jeans can be hung dry and then ironed. You can always iron if you had to lay it funny. Don't stretch it out too much when you lay it flat as you're trying to let it keep it's shape. If it's not important to keep it's shape - ie, just a t shirt that has some sort of melt-y applique on it - you can hang dry.

u/zkathnel21 Ā· 2 pointsr/lifehacks

I use something similar for scarves that I bought on Amazon. I would easily work for tanks. What's nice is they're easy to get in and out. I find that if it takes too much time to put it away/take it out, I don't use an organization system. For my scarf one, I actually hang it from a wall hook - easy access and with all the pretty colors, it actually looks nice next to a dresser.

Your husband is taking you to a winery for a wine tasting event, which is definitely a little more exciting than being told you look 16 (I'm 26, it's super exciting). SquishMonster is planning to give you lots of congratulatory kisses when you get back! SquishMonster is such a cute name that I wanted to say it twice.

I have a Rubbermaid Commercial 4.75 gallon food tote (actually several that I bought lightly used on Amazon). It works well for large cooks, and since I have a pretty big family, I tend to do a lot of big cooks. I also have the smaller 12 qt container (a word of caution - get the clear one, not white). It also works well, and fits the Anova perfectly.

I am new to FWSY as well. I have made about 6 loaves now. I always make half recipes, but as /u/drbhrb said, be sure you halve the recipe the whole way through. I often get anxiety wondering if i remembered to cut the water in the final mix (or the salt/yeast).

I also use instant yeast and just give the dough time to rise to double/triple size. I originally thought this was due to my room temp, but after reading the link, it might be more due to the instant yeast.

I am definitely still learning how to get my proofed dough into dutch oven. i started proofing in a standard mixing bowl and my dough stuck to all the sides. Then i watched his youtube videos (search FWSY) and he uses special proofing baskets. the ridges allow flour to spread up the sides of the bowl which help the dough come out at the end. When it comes out of the proofing bowl intact, it is also easier to get into the dutch oven. http://www.amazon.com/Round-Proofing-Basket-Banneton-Brotform/dp/B006WBMT0K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452267355&sr=8-2&keywords=bread+proofing+basket

>Who pays 7.4 cents per KWh? lol you are a lucky dog brother!

The 7.4 cents per KWh plan I am on was a 24 month fixed rate plan I signed up for in June 2017 so I have seven more months on that plan. If I were to renew right now it would only increase to 8.7 cents per KWh. As for those who don't live in Texas, where we have deregulated our electric grid, and have to pay outrageous costs for electricity I do feel sorry. Maybe they should take their complaints to their local politicians and ask why they can't do what Texas does.

My Total Costs: $142.59

If you add a purchased 1200 watt HP Server power supply add $27.99 to get to $170.58 which is $330 cheaper than the Cadillac $500+ price you quote.

I have 2 of these:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00CL9204C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I simply cut out some cardboard to put on the wire as to not cause potential damage to the games (even though I'm pretty sure they won't as the "wires" are pretty close together.

These shelves are pretty damn sturdy, easy to put together and easily hold enough weight to stack on as many boardgames that will fit.

u/Megamansdick Ā· 1 pointr/sousvide

I think the Anova is rated to 4.5 or 5 gallons, IIRC. The fact that the cooler is insulated is helpful, and you probably aren't filling it up to the 6.25 gallons it holds.

I bought this food safe polycarbonate box for $25, and it is perfect for everything I've done. It's easy to store, and I can use it to carry around other food items if I'm taking it somewhere else to use. I think I just like being able to keep it in the kitchen without people asking me why I have a cooler sitting in the corner. I also don't have to cut holes in it to fit the Anova. If I need a lid for longer cooks to prevent water loss, I just cover it with foil.

Hey there,

Just wanted to say that I used to wash my bras by hand but lately have been using another method since it saves me time and also maintains the integrity of my bras. What I do is buy a bra bag. The important thing is not to buy a "garment" bag but rather this. It helps a lot with keeping the shape of the bras. I wash my bras in my washing machine in the "Gentle" cycle and make sure they're only being washed with other delicate clothing. I don't overwhelm the machine with any other heavier pieces of clothes. I'll use whichever detergent I have on hand. Once the bras are finished washing, I take them out from the bag and let them air dry. This method lets me get the agitation that I need to remove the deodorant build up and makes the bras feel a hell of a lot cleaner. Air drying allows them to keep their good shape!

Let me know if you try this and how it works out for you.

This is awesome for storage under beds and other raised furniture.

My mother swears by these. They are also good for under-bed storage as well as for use in closets.

Pair this and this with this to save closet space.

This doesn't just have to be used in a closet! It can be hung as a display unit in a dining or living room!

u/exoriare Ā· 1 pointr/sousvide

I like a transparent acrylic bath. It lets you see at a glance what's going on (no floating, leaks, or bunching up). As long as everything's totally clean, it's attractive on the counter (my earlier stockpot setup looked more like a science experiment or homebrew).

I use the 5 gallon Rubbermaid polycarbonate, with the matching lid, and a cutout for the circulator. This is an ideal size, as it's close to the max capacity for the Anova.

u/INeedHelpMan Ā· 3 pointsr/headphones

Just as a heads up, there are headphone stands on amazon that are very similar to this design: http://www.amazon.com/Stick-on-Headphone-Hooks-2-Pack/dp/B00P9GYUE2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1459127066&sr=8-1&keywords=wall+headphone+stand

I don't know if you're trying to do it for the joy of DIY, but if you're doing it to save money these are $6 each (I don't know how much 3D printing cost so sorry if it's a lot cheaper than that). They have some for desks too.

Thought I'd point it out, but otherwise awesome idea, especially being able to configure it differently.

u/baconbuffet Ā· 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I got this holder with 60 slots, but I really don't like the lower hanging tier since I want to put it in a drawer. Fortunately it does come in 36 as well and without that lower row.

I think they're both a great deal with Amazon Prime. The only lipsticks that I couldn't fit into it were bulky ones, like NYX Black Label. Fits everything else, though.

u/dstam Ā· 1 pointr/clothdiaps

I have a Simple Human with a locking lid and a foot pedal that would make a good CD bin. The Planet Wise liner we use would def fit it. We use it for our actual trash, I love it. We just have a generic white trash bin for our diapers, it works fine.

Amazon has similar items at a better price, in some cases. This one, and this one, and this other one are the best I've found so far, but I bet there are even better ones!

I would really like this shoe rack because when my puppy wanders around my house he tends to go by the shoe area. The shoes are all on the floor so he has easy access. He either pees on them or chews. When he chews them he runs around the house when you try to take it away from him. This would help since the top shelves are too high for him to grab so he wont touch the shoes anymore.

Yay!

u/Schrockwell Ā· 9 pointsr/headphones

Maybe try these http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0001E83AE. I use them for my tank tops and delicates. They keep sleeves from tangling in the washer and dryer. The only downside is that you may need to increase the dry time. Best of luck!

Just Amazon's cheap ones. The good thing about this one is that you could stack them as many as you want. A bit tricky with high tops tho (only top level can hold high tops). So if you have a lot of high tops I suggest getting something else. As for size, I wear 9.5. So i think it should be fine for size up to 12~13? I mean if you don't mind the rears of your shoes sticking out a little bit, you can put in whatever sizes you want.

u/supersoigne Ā· 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I love seeing and talking about AB storage porn more than anything (but any kind of AB haul is a close second).

My current jam are these stackable plastic bins from Daiso (pink chip clips to close masks and save the essence for the next day). The taller one is just deep enough to store most Cosrx bottles. I've been meaning to make another trip so I can separate my sheet masks by brand.

But my grand plan after I move is to dedicate a whole Ikea Alex drawer unit to AB and these plastic bins will just go into the drawers.

As for cheap acrylic storage units, try Amazon, I have this one, or Ebay I'm digging the pink rotating makeup carousel w shelves

Hey, my son has major dust allergies and I recommend getting those sealed in plastic.

Cheap alternative: plastic garbage bags, twisted at the top and duct taped.

More complete solution: vacuum bags for just this purpose that reduce the amount of space they take up and keep them sealed and safe.

Not recommending these in particular, but this is the idea: https://www.amazon.com/SpaceSaver-Premium-Reusable-Storage-Included/dp/B00X8KSKF6

There are also a type that doesn't require a vacuum: https://www.amazon.com/Ziploc-Space-Bag-Flat-Count/dp/B00MDB3OSE/

Hope that helps.

Though I've only really had it a month, I can assure you I did a great deal of research on trash cans before buying it, as the hinge of my last step can would snag the bag, tear it, and cause depression.

SimpleHuman is a great brand and they have awesome warranties.

I would recommend one of [these] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KQU1C60/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_iqxevb034RRTH). There's cheaper alternatives on Amazon but you want a nice size so that you can hang a couple loads at a time. I haven't dried anything but first layers in years and have seen a definite increase in the life of clothes.

u/jdroser Ā· 2 pointsr/goodyearwelt

I just picked up this one from Amazon, mainly because it was highly rated by TheWirecutter. Iā€™m pretty happy with it. Solid construction, can be put together in several configurations for different sizes of shoes/boots (especially if you get the two-pack). The width will fit three pairs of menā€™s shoes or boots on each level.

u/WestM430 Ā· 2 pointsr/Baking

I always appreciate something unique that I wouldn't have thought of myself.

This is a basket for proofing (letting bread dough rise). You flour the basket really well and make the dough into a ball. Put the dough in with the seam up. When it's risen, you gently flip the dough out so now it's got the rings patterned on its surface. http://www.amazon.com/Round-Proofing-Basket-Banneton-Brotform/dp/B006WBMT0K

Then there's all sorts of little strange extracts and flavourings you can buy. Makes me feel like I'm in Potions class from Harry Potter. Flavours like root beer, apricot, cotton candy, black walnut, pomegranate, etc. http://shop.lorannoils.com/baked-goods/super-strength-flavors/1-dram-size

Thatā€™s awful :( as someone who has an extremely nosey family, I feel you. I personally would suggest going onto amazon and buying this lock box it might not be the most hidden, but it stores easily under your bed or in your closet and no one can open it unless they have the key. It fits tons of toys! I have a good 10-15 in mine. Good luck!

I would avoid purchasing any accessories now that require power from the port. Right now, there are too many variables to buy any accessories that may require power from the accessory port such as headlights, etc., but you can get those once the port is revealed. To my knowledge, their are no backpacks that can carry the board. You can, however, slide your boosted board through the 2 straps on a regular backpack wheel-side facing your back and then put the backpack on to carry it around. A good option for a wall mount would be this: https://www.amazon.com/Tornado-00520-Large-J-Hook/dp/B0050PLCUW?ie=UTF8&redirect=true If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Caboodles Crystal Clear acrylic vanity organizers for my makeup, and a few random acrylic trays I got at TJ Maxx or Marshall's for fragrances and eyeshadow palettes. I got the Caboodles at Target, but I'm not sure if they sell them anymore.

The Caboodles I have from the above link are:

The Object of Desire Tray: in this, I store highlighters, my foundation, my concealer, and blushes.

The Cosmetic Counter tray: in this, I store my liquid lipsticks, lip glosses, lip liners (in the square compartments) and in the middle, I store face masks and a few hair products.

I have two more Caboodles that I guess they don't sell anymore. They look like this but without the drawers underneath.

Before building some, I used to use wire shelves like these:

https://www.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-UltraZinc-5-Shelf-Shelving/dp/B00CL9204C/

If the aesthetic isn't an issue for you (personally I think they look better than Walmart crap), they are great for holding lots of heavy books. I used to stack them 2 deep with hardcovers. Seville Classics sells some plastic covers to put on the shelves for small items, or you can figure something out yourself, masonite etc.

u/allpurpleeverything Ā· 4 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

HAHAHA possibly another bachelorette frog move - I don't wash them until they're about ready to crawl off to the washing machine on their own. About a week or longer because I wear them ONLY when I'm out of the house. Like at work. I go grocery shopping braless. And I wash them in this: http://www.amazon.com/Mesh-Lingerie-Delicates-Wash-Bag/dp/B0001E83AE

u/supportbones Ā· 1 pointr/loseit

Use a lingerie bag when you machine wash, air dry, and the Last Resort will last forever.

Would you pay half that price? A cheaper bra will fall apart and you'll need to replace it long before something this solidly constructed will. I honestly do not remember how many years ago I bought mine. I've owned more of the Wired because they are much lighter and I've worn them as everyday bras too (it's that comfortable!)

Title9 has a comprehensive return policy. I had one that had a wire snap - I'd worn it many months - but a mid wire break is not from wear but a faulty wire... I brought it to the store and they looked at it and gave me a brand new one.

They have retail stores Anywhere I've lived the last decade has had had one - if you're lucky enough to be near one go try them all on :) They really are worth it.

It sounds like you've thought of the solutions. Any amount of moisture that gets to those clothes is going to be a breeding ground for mold in a moist area. Maybe, that would be for the best and it will force your mom to get rid of the stuff?

They make weathertight storage totes (containerstore.com), but they aren't air tight I'd venture. Those with some moisture absorbing packets may do it, but will likely cost as much as the vacuum bags.

Someone suggested that I share a photo of my rig.

I have a Sansaire. While it performs well, the hourglass shape is inconvenient.

I purchase a polycarbonate container and lid from Amazon on the advice of another member of this subreddit. The rough home, for the circulator, was made slowly using a soldering iron.

So far, I've cooked several top round steaks with this rig. Most recently, I made a brisket in the style of a beef bourguignon to much success.

My only complaint is the gap in the lid around the immersion circulator. I cover it with plastic wrap to maintain relative water seal.

These parts were far far cheaper than the Sansaire-specific solutions offered by Amazonā€”even with a $20 soldering iron!

A shelving unit like that or the rubbermaid ones.

I know it seems weird, but hear me out. We live in a smallish apartment, two adults and a kid. We have an outdoor storage closet and a living room closet. Well, we live in Florida, not a lot of need for lots of coats. So we got a metal shelving unit that fits into our living room closet and it has become a pantry since we have a TINY kitchen with almost no space.

The outdoor storage closet on our patio was useless as is, but with the rubbermaid shelves, we have SO MUCH STUFF in there that we use, but can't store inside. My husband's tools, my gardening stuff for my few flowers, and the like are all in there along with some gaming stuff of my husband's for miniature painting that he wants to get back into.

Apartments suck on storage, the shelves have been a godsend!

I just did a few cooks with my Anova one with this container. It sits firmly in the middle of the container.

Did steaks and then some eggs @ 176F with no issues.
I heats the water up to temp really fast. Covered with plastic wrap when cooking. Ordered this rack to fit :

The Anova is a powerful circulator in this smaller container. Need to put eggs in a container then drop in Camwear. I have a insulated cooler for longer cooks.

Good for daily use with shorter cooks with 4 pouches or so.

You can get some mesh lingerie bags kind of like this and just run it through in that. It still has enough space to jiggle around and get clean, but not so much that it gets tangled up in itself or other things. All of my everyday ones I wash like this, then hang dry. Air drying helps with wrinkles (though not a concern with crinkle hijabs, I guess), and they dry really fast. I usually just leave them over the back of the sofa overnight.

Best thing to do in these situations if she has access to items like the trash when you are not around is prevention - get a high quality, sturdy, LOCKING trash can (Example) or remove it from her access (put it in the garage, in a different room with a closed door, use gates, or put it in a cabinet). You can also make a habit of emptying the trash when you leave every day (if it is a problem of them getting into it when you leave for work - but it sounds like this was more of a 'we are home and she snuck off and got into the garbage' scenario).

Throwing away harmful trash directly in the curbside bin is a good idea and keep working on 'leave it' and redirection. Unfortunately, she now knows she CAN get into the trash if no one is looking and there are awesome things in there, so it may be more prudent just to remove access all together.

Use a combination of 'leave it' and preventing the behavior from being reinforcing (the trash is always empty or locked so she can never get any 'treats'/rewards from it) will should eventually cause the behavior to extinguish, but it only takes one time for her to figure out how to open the trash for it to be wildly reinforcing again.

TL;DR: You are right, remove the trashcan.

Fridge space is definitely limited for me too! I have an oval shaped version of this proofing bowl: https://smile.amazon.com/Round-Proofing-Basket-Banneton-Brotform/dp/B006WBMT0K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473885599&sr=8-1&keywords=Round+Proofing+Basket+Banneton+Brotform+8.5+Inch that I happened to get really cheap from a food supply company that liquidated. It's pretty small and shallow, so it doesn't take up too much space. For the second loaf (a lot of recipes seem to make two loaves at a time), I just use a small mixing bowl. I really should just get a second proofing bowl like the one I linked.

I spend most of my money on food and clothing. I don't make much right now (I haven't started my new SLP job yet), so what little I do make at the gym I work at, I spend on food and drinks, and I treat myself or my dogs occasionally. I like what I spend my money on, just wish I didn't spend so much on food. I'm just always on the go, so it's easy to swing by somewhere.

This, because I need organization in my closet.

Ooh! Look into vacuum bags! Yarn is very squishy, vacuum bags will vastly increase the carry capacity of your suitcase! If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, here's an Amazon link (non affiliate/referral/whatever, literally just searched vacuum bag) with a good description of them. There are a bunch of different brands.

In a pinch, you can do something similar with a trash bag, but it doesn't work quite as well.

I mean... we just installed something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050PLCUW/

It was less than 10$ and you can even hook the final part through the two prongs and it holds it in place great. I don't know why you would need to rig something up on the ceiling and stuff. Why would you think it would be easier to use? Did you install the plug on the wrong wall or something?

If you need, I could take some photos when I get home.

I bought this one which seems to be the most common organizer on Amazon. Its decent quality considering the price. My only complaints are that the drawers squeak sometimes when pulling them out and that the drawers could be a little more deep.

I also have a couple of these to hoard my lipsticks on the side. They're super cheap and managed to fit all of the different lipsticks I have so far.

I have this that I use to air dry my clothes overnight inside my small apartment. I only dry my old t shirts, cotton underwear and socks in the dryer, everything else gets hung up. The drying rack fits one big load of laundry and then when I'm done I store it under the couch. It actually works really well and I get to avoid having to find like 16 quarters every time I need to do laundry.

I will add if I had a nicer dryer I would definitely put more things in the dryer rather than hanging them up. My coin op industrial apartment machine has two settings: air fluff or heat of a thousand suns so I'm always skeptical of it.

  1. Two of these (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0050PLCUW?pc_redir=T1&redirect=true)

  2. The tool to change the battery comes with it, but you will need a skate tool (Search on amazon and find one you like)

  3. Currently, the only option is buying Shredlights. They make you more visible, but don't help you to see. Also, many people haven't been able to mount the tail light.

  4. Easy choice (https://www.flatland-3d.com)
u/Hollaberra Ā· 55 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

Okkaaaayyy. So! Does that vanity not possess drawers or cabinets? Start there. Actually, no.

  1. Get a trash bag. Every empty or NEARLY empty container gets tossed. I don't care if there's one pump left in that sucker that you're saving for a special occasion.

  2. Take EVERYTHING that's left and pull it off the counter and out from below and empty the drawers and set it on the floor of the room nextdoor.

  3. Slowly evaluate everything you NEED. You say it all has to stay, but I see 2 pump bottles of cetaphil. Y'all need to learn to share.

  4. The counter should be for the things you use DAILY, and really only 2x a day. Face cleanser and moisturizer and tooth shittery.

  5. Use a cake stand to elevate those items up off the counter surface. They have some at Target for $5 in their little dollar section. That plate will get full and when it does, STOP. That's all that should be out.

  6. Get a few of these to store under your sinks- once they are full, get rid of the rest

  7. Get some clear acrylic trays to organize the make up and make up brushes

You don't need to spend a huge amount of money on this. Go to the dollar store. Go to a thrift store. Use discipline and discernment about what NEEDS to stay out and visible. Bathrooms should be personal sanctuaries. If you're visually overwhelmed the moment you enter, you probably won't feel clean or refreshed.

    Anyway, lots of luck.

All you need is a vacuum cleaner with a hose or you can buy the kind that you just roll up to get the air out.

I prefer the vacuum ones if I am going to visit friends and the roll up ones if I am going on a vacation. We have kids... so we feel the need to lock up and be subtle. We have 2 of these safes under the bed for stuff we want handy, and then a locked closet in the attic for things that we don't need as readily available. We also mask a few key things in plain sight... for example we have a series of hammock chairs hanging in our game room in the basement... which explains why we need load-bearing hardware in the ceiling of the basement, right?
