REPORT THIS GUY! As a 19 year old man I can say "Abdul" is a damn creeper, and NOTHING he did could be considered normal or good in the slightest.

Next time someone makes you feel uncomfortable like that, ask them to leave IMMEDIATELY. The safety of you and your wife is not worth a few bucks, people over paper ya know.

Also as other people have said you might want to invest in better security. It's a trust but verify sorta situation, you'd like to think all of your guest are going to be super cool French, hitchhiker, philanthropists, but lets face it, some are going to be like Abdul. You need to prepare yourself for them.

1). Don't ever give them keys, do not give any random asshat with an AirBnB account permanent access to you home. Use something like the reset able combination locks others have suggested.

Also reinforce the hinges and strike plate, it's the most common way exterior doors fail against a home invader. A window reinforcement film is also super useful, it helps prevent windows from shattering when hit with bricks and the like.

2). Get a security system, a fucking loud one. Motion controlled flood lights, sirens, all that shit; messed up fuckers don't like having the whole neighborhoods attention focused on them. Something like this, doesn't require a contract and seems pretty good (Am not endorsing, just found it via Google).

3). If you like dogs, get one. You'll have an amazing furry friend and certain breeds can be intimidating, yet lovable, security puppers

4). Learn how to say no, it's a valuable skill that can be a literal life saver. Maybe go on a ride along with your local PD, see how they deal with belligerent drunks and the like. or you could ask the advice of someone you know is good at resolving this sort of stuff. These aren't the only ideas of course, find what works best for you.

5). A shotgun can be your best friend if perverts decide to take things to the next level. Invest in something like this, a security length barrel, and some self defense ammo (or anything that says "20 gauge, Buckshot, Low recoil, Home Defense," etc. on it).

Also learn how to use it and store it safely, Google around to find local ranges that host intro to shooting/intro to shotgun type classes. You don't have to be Rambo, but getting the basics down pat can turn you into a competent shot-gunner.

Plus trap, skeet, sporting clays, etc. are super fun!

(Tasers, stun guns, collapsible baton and pepper spray are also good alternatives if you don't want to use lethal force)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully this give you some idea of how to protect you and yours, stay safe!

It's definitely enough for a nice knife, though you might want to go a bit higher for a great knife. The KaBar BK2 is actually designed with things like batoning (hammering the knife through wood as a kind of faux hatchet using another piece of wood against the blade of the knife as the hammer itself) or chopping. It's a bit over $60, currently available for $69 to be precise, but as long as you don't flat out abuse it (prying heavy things, for example) it'll serve you well and quite possibly for the rest of your natural life.

At a lower price, you can get the Condor Bushlore, which at $35 is a perfectly valid choice that will serve you well indeed.

For an even lower price yet, the Mora Heavy Companion is from one of those few cheaper knife companies that does incredible work. I wouldn't baton with it, honestly, but even if you did it'd probably hold up just fine.

At a more expensive range, the Ontario Rat-5 is an amazing bushcraft knife. The Fallkniven Pilot Survival Knife is also an amazing knife. The Benchmade Bone Collector is spectacular knife made in D2 tool steel, one of the better steels available at that price. Another amazing knife is the Spyderco Bushcraft made in O1 tool steel. Finally, the Benchmade 162 is a pretty amazing knife.

One thing you'll notice about all of these knives with the exception of the Pilot Survival knife and the BM 162 is that they're all carbon steel knives. Carbon steel is a lot tougher than stainless (with a few very, very rare exceptions I'd never trust a long knife to be stainless steel) with the trade off of being a lot more of a hassle to take care of, since it needs to be regularly cleaned and oiled.

If you want a fire starter, carry a magnesium fire starter. With the carbon steel knives, you can probably strike it against the back of the blade to create the sparks you'll want and if not (like with some of the coated ones) you'll be carrying the striker anyway.

For sharpening, you'll want to get a decent sharpening setup and start stropping. A couple of easy sharpening systems would be the superior Spyderco Sharpermaker (usually available on Amazon around the $50 mark) or the Lansky Sharpening system which while cheaper isn't as good. You could take the time to learn how to free hand it, but most casual users don't care that much because it takes a long time to get proficient at freehand sharpening. Stropping is running the blade against something like smooth leather (usually smooth leather, actually) to remove burrs along the blade of a knife made by use and sharpening and the restore a blade to a better edge without removing metal. Stropping allows for a level of sharpness unachievable by sharpening alone and extends a knife's lifetime by allowing sharpness to be achieved for longer without removing metal from the blade. To learn how to strop, watch videos on YouTube or check out guides from the sidebar of /r/knives.

Finally, if you want a whistle, just carry a whistle. If you want a mirror for signaling, carry a small signaling mirror or mirror polish the knife you buy (a process where you sand the blade with increasing grit level sandpaper until it shines like the sun and you can see yourself in the blade).

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Steel is steel mate. You can go with the expensive stuff, or with the cheap stuff - We're talking expensive at several hundred and cheap as under 20-50. I've seen 20 dollars knives made just as well as the 600 dollar knives, they just dont have the name brand. It's a chunk of steel, treated so it stands up to specific conditions and holds an edge better. It looks to be full tang - not sure what is up with the holes in the blade, or the design near the MT-5 logo. I found pictures online, looks like the steel comes out a bunch there? No idea what this design is or what purpose it could have - looks sketchy. And the holes in the blade...I mean I've seen the 5 dollar walmart knives with holes so you can create a makeshift spear but..Other then that, no idea why they are on this knife, and they cause more harm then good. You can use it for basic bushcrafting tasks but I'd be careful batoning, I've personally never heard of the brand - it could be name brand and be great, but it has some weird designs.

Really, steel is steel - all the fancy features cause more harm than good.

That is a 12 dollar knife, and you really won't ever need more, but there are better options. The 12 dollar knife has a thinner blade and isn't suitable to as heavy duty work, but is a great beater knife for doing anything.

https://www.amazon.com/Morakniv-Bushcraft-Survival-Starter-4-3-Inch/dp/B00BFI8TOA/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=morakniv&qid=1571462370&s=sporting-goods&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=1-7

And their top of the line knives are

https://www.amazon.com/Morakniv-Garberg-Carbon-Leather-Sheath/dp/B07B8SP4G9/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=morakniv&qid=1571462370&s=sporting-goods&sr=1-10

https://www.amazon.com/Morakniv-M-12642-Stainless-Compatible-4-3-inch/dp/B01I1GITMA/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=morakniv&qid=1571462370&s=sporting-goods&sr=1-12

There's a carbon version and stainless steel version. I'm gonna be honest...for the most part, they all do the same thing, but people want different things and fancier things - the garberg is the only full tang out of the bunch, but even their half tang knives are bulletproof, they hold up incredibly well and I've batoned with him countless times without issue. Mora, IMO makes the best knives - I have several other brands, and there are some I like better for ergonomics - but that's not the point, the point is any knife will work, steel is steel. Just find what you think looks and feels good, learn how to sharpen it and what you like, it depends on the what materials/types of trees you are working with, and what type of work you do. I prefer convex and Scandinavian grind (V Grind) knives, the Cudeman MT-5 looks to be a full flat grind - which I mean..AFIAK is mostly used in like chef knives and stuff, it's incredibly sharp but it's not durable, hitting hard objects is gonna cause knicks and it's gonna be brittle. This is all from experience, it's not like im an expert - but to be fair, I'd just keep trying different ones and see how you like it, but I wouldn't go spending crazy money, the $300 knives you see all the fancy bushcrafters use...these are what I call wall knives..They use them in the videos cause they look good but most people would just keep them at home and keep using their beater knives, because we are hard on our equipment and honestly, they work just as wall, all the fancy scalings and what not make them expensive, but they don't make them better.

TL;DR: Steel is steel. Get a cheap knife, in a better grind suited for the work your doing. All depends on what work you do, and what tress you have, soft woods, hard woods ETC.

Edit: Definately don't have to go with Mora, I've just always used them and they've done me well.

Pretty sleek and badass looking. And on sale at Midway USA for $30 cheaper than BladeHQ and Amazon right now. I've never bought from there, but just noticed the price.

I see the Tech's big brother, the SB1T-L Super SOG Bowie, on multiple "best bowie" lists, so it seems people value what they do in the bowie department. That one's a 7.5" in Aus-8 and the handle is brown leather instead of textured black Kraton. On SOG's site (though you can get better prices) it goes for $75 more than the Tech, so if that's indicative of their own in-house estimation of quality, there's maybe one suggestion on higher quality options you're after.

Staying upmarket, and to put it back in the all-black and sleek tactical-looking department, if a bit less bowie, there's the Fallkniven A1 in black. People rave about their knives.

And if you like the sleek all-black look of that Fallkniven but would rather go budget than spendy on your black badass tacticals, there's the Cold Steel SRK in SK-5 going for a song on Amazon. $35! You could just get that one for dessert. It was so cheap I just got one for fun, just to have it since I'd always liked its shape. Looks like something a Navy SEAL would fight with in the dark. It's comparably manageable in size to the Tech and the design has a long track record. The handle is the same material and pattern as the Tech, no back guard, ricasso half the size, blade width of 5mm instead of 6.1mm, weight a nice 8.2oz instead of 11.2oz, length 10.75" instead of 11". So, just an option for something cool lower down in the budget if you like 'em black and badass.

Here's another sleek black tactical with a bowie blade but otherwise not looking very bowie, looking more spy fighty, the Spyderco Street Bowie, a lot cheaper on Amazon of course.

There's the black version of the classic Ka-Bar Marines fighting knife.

Truthfully I'd just recreate what I have, as it would almost entirely fit inside the budget:
SS Jotter, I used this before switching to a TT Shaker, it is still fantastic.
Leek, been thinking about upgrading but still fantastic and the alternatives are way more expensive.
SF 348 I got the unlabelled BLF variant, and it is fantastic. Sleek, small, and bright.
MOTA Pocket Tool One of the card tool variants, I've used a few of its parts, but will radily admit that on these not everything is useful.
Flowfold This holds everything listed above, and does so without increasing the volume of my pocket, and making everything quieter and easier to pick up and go with.
Cable Key Ring Great, because it is large and thin, so I have my keys and car keys and USB on here. I tried a Keydisk mini, but found it still rattles against the car key, is fairly bulky, and cannot hold the USB. May try one of the new Orbitkeys next.
USB Drive, goes with the keys, I actually have a SP J80 32, but for some reason that one has increased in price.
Bifold Wallet The one I currently have is very similar, but I have no idea what it is called, a basic bifold.

So, this budget covers everything save the watch, which I didn't leave room for, because downgrading from a pebble would be sad, and getting one would be the entire budget. My choice to recollect everything I have mostly indicates how happy I am with the set that I created.

Amazon isn't where I'd usually go for a vest, but there are some decent options. Condor isn't a fantastic brand (not great quality and durability), but they have some good options for a budget on Amazon. I think the Condor Rapid Assault chest rig is fairly popular and it has some pouches built in. The Condor Recon chest rig has more pouches built in.

People often don't get gear with pouches built in, because it gives you more space to put on and switch out whatever pouches you need at the moment. This is a little more expensive to get started with because you have to purchase the pouches separately, but it gives you more options in the future. This Condor chest rig is more like that, though if you really want a lot of space for pouches you should look into a plate carrier, which is bigger than a chest rig.

But for getting started, you probably don't need that many pouches. Do you have an M4? If you do, I'd suggest the Rapid Assault rig. It has M4 pouches built in which you can use but also has a decent amount of MOLLE space for adding your own pouches. It's a good balance.

Keep doing research, search for other threads like this on /r/airsoft. There might be some better quality options that I don't know about. Buying used is another option, it's harder but you might get a really good deal. Let me know if you have any other questions!

EDIT: /u/zxj4k3xz is correct in pointing out that you probably don't need one. If you're just using a rifle with a high-cap magazine (probably came with it) you won't have much use for a vest/etc. But when you buy mid-cap magazines, and if you use your pistol enough that you want to have it with you as well as your rifle, a chest rig is a good way to carry it (the pistol probably fits in a mag pouch fairly well) for much cheaper than a good holster (the cheap fabric ones are godawful, don't use them).

Knives in general do not make good self defense weapons for various reasons (range, lethality but most important legal issues) so aren't really recommended here for this purpose.

If you want to have a good self defense tool - get a police strength pepper spray.

As for knives for EDC (every day carry) - check out the Ontario RAT 1.

It was my first proper knife and I could easily recommend it for all sorts of tasks - DIY, hiking, food prep and even camping.

Has great value as well.

u/Gullex · 3 pointsr/Survival

$150 is plenty of budget for a good knife. This one is just slightly over that budget but will last you the rest of your life. It's kind of my dream survival knife.

The Fallkniven F1 is very popular as well and right in your price range.

Currently I use this knife which is also very good.

If you want to go a little less expensive still, Becker makes some good ones such as the Bk16. I know the Becker doesn't look anything like "hand made", but I have the BK2- I used paint remover to take the black coating off the blade, replaced the plastic handles with micarta and stained it to look more like wood, and built a leather sheath for it. It's a beautiful knife now. Too bad it's so goddamn heavy.

You could also go with something like the Mora bushcraft. I have that one also, very decent knife.

You could even just get a regular Mora or a Condor bushlore which are even more economical options.

u/GALACTICA-Actual · 1 pointr/backpacks

That bag does not have a 'tactical' look. So if you're looking for one with TAC capabilities, but pedestrian looks, I have no idea other than the 5.11 Tactical COVRT 18 Backpack. It is a badass pack, very low key, and only about $100.

It would help to edit into your posts what your needs/requirements are. It's impossible to know what you're looking for with the info. you provided. There are definitely some low key tactical options, but the good quality ones are going to be at least in the $100 range.

I don't really care about the TAC look. It's fine with me. I'm a frickin' bag freak. When I was on tour I can't tell you how many bags I bought.

I was always in search of the perfect configuration. I finally found it with the LA Police Gear Operator Backpack.

I recomend this pack so much, here and in EDC, that I'm pretty sure people are convinced I work for them.

It's probably wayyy too tactical looking for you, but if it isn't, it's an awesome bag for the price, (around $50). The thing is built like a fucking tank.

The Operator pack is the same size as the Vertex. (Way more useful pocket configuration.)

The Covert is just a tad smaller than the Vertex. Couple of inches. But Way more low key than the Operator.

Anyway, add some more info. to your post, and people can help you more.

I'd also make a post in /r/EDC. Lots of helpful people over there. They live and breath this kinda thing.

u/Clocktease · 4 pointsr/toptalent

That is a very good range, great price point for awesome hunting knives.

Here’s a couple all purpose bushcraft/outdoors knives:

The Benchmade Buschraft: Micarta scales and a very nice leather sheath put it at $200 even. Benchmade is made in the US and is very well known for their high quality and their great warranties. I just bought a Crooked River and am enamored by it.

https://www.amazon.com/Benchmade-162-Bushcrafter-Drop-Point/dp/B00B0E1MB6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549089167&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=benchmade%2Bbushcraft&dpPl=1&dpID=41uGBLFBQNL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1

Next up is the Fallkniven F1. It’s got a composite rubber handle but is still full tang. Made out of VG10 which means high rust resistance, great for bloodwork in the cold when you don’t have a lot of time to clean it. This brand is out of Sweden and those dudes know their outdoors gear. I could go on and on about them but there’s not much more needed to be said. At $115 you’re getting an incredible knife for a hell of a price.

https://www.amazon.com/Fallkniven-F1-Thermorun-Handle-Sheath/dp/B001JA9Y66/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549089232&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=fallkniven&dpPl=1&dpID=41BlkNY8VfL&ref=plSrch

Now look at the Esee 6P, this is a good example of everything a knife should be and no more. Its 1095 high carbon steel so the implication would be to keep it cleaned and oiled, but there is a DLC (diamond like carbon coating) so it will keep the rust at bay until it wears off over time. $116 is a modest price, especially for the size of this particular knife.

https://www.amazon.com/ESEE-Desert-Molded-Polymer-Sheath/dp/B0049TYBL2/ref=pd_aw_sim_468_1/147-9912666-5096041?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0049TYBL2&pd_rd_r=35b4fb85-26b5-11e9-a2ee-7323802ef2ad&pd_rd_w=EV1gz&pd_rd_wg=WIYnq&pf_rd_p=469620d9-3e90-496d-9dc8-b19f900ba5fe&pf_rd_r=VEHBMYRN110K86ZGZE9G&psc=1&refRID=VEHBMYRN110K86ZGZE9G

That being said I don’t know a great deal of “brand name” filet knives but what I can assure you of is that there is no more a reliable product than a Morakniv. They literally have a knife for every job, and they’re all incredibly robust and utilitarian. Don’t let the low price point fool you, they are worth much more than the company charges. These are made of 12c27n sandvik steel, again in Sweden. The steel is good stuff, nothing glamorous but still a step above 440c. They have awesome belt clips that are just as simple as can be and I couldn’t personally suggest a whole line of knives other than Morakniv.

https://www.amazon.com/Morakniv-Fishing-Comfort-Stainless-6-1-Inch/dp/B00EAL1HI4/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1549089826&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=mora%2Bfillet%2Bknife&dpPl=1&dpID=31IMwXb73cL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1

I'm not a big Cold Steel fan, but I sure do love my Kobun. Feels great in hand, looks great and will definitely be there for you in an 'oh shit' moment. Mine mostly lives in my car. Even though I don't use it often, I have considered getting a second one (at that price, they are almost irresistible).

I've got a Mora, too. You simply can't go wrong with those things.

u/HammerHill · 2 pointsr/knifeclub

I have a Cold Steel Kobun that I use as my petty knife in the kitchen and I love it. It's $30 from Amazon, hollow ground very thin at the edge from a good chunk of Aus-8 steel. Great lightweight sheath, 5" blade length, slim but ergonomic handle.

The thing that really makes the Kobun stand out against the other blades suggested so far is its blade shape. The Kobun has a long belly on the primary edge which makes it a great slicer, while retaining all the awesome tip strength and the useful "second point" of a tanto-style blade.

u/billbillbilly · 2 pointsr/Bushcraft

You gotta be more specific in your original questions buddy.

First of all, there are 2 reasons to remove an animal from a trap. To rescue (and minimize harm to the animal), or to harvest (and minimize damage to the trap). Here in bushcrafter land, I wouldn't usually assume you aren't planning on eating what was caught in the trap.....

It does sound like you are looking for the rescue side of things, and this is for a film, and you are looking for realism..

A swiss army knife or basic folding pocketknife are fairly realistic options for what a typical person might have with them with just a general plan of being 'prepared'. Something like 4-5inch Condor Bushlore is a decent approximation for what a more bushcraft oriented person might have with them in a wilderness setting. Someone who is going out intentionally to rescue animals from traps though, that is an entirely different question! For that you'd want a blunt tip, the type found in rescue knives, and/or EMT scissors.

For realism, most of us here know enough about the various types of knife that we could likely give you good answers - but you really should explain what kind of realism you are actually going for.

Average outdoorsy person with basic 'preparedness' is likely to have something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Huntsman-Leather/dp/B000IOI0NC/

Or this:

https://www.amazon.com/Gerber-Spine-Fixed-Blade-Camping/dp/B07DDCG3HD

Average Joe who has no idea of what makes a knife good or useful is likely to have something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Tac-Force-Police-Assisted-Tactical-Rescue/dp/B01LZ0T3N9

Average bushcraft subreddit user probably has something similar to:

https://www.amazon.com/Condor-Tool-Knife-Bushlore-Hardwood/dp/B002CC6BPM

but wishes they had:

https://www.amazon.com/Benchmade-162-Bushcrafter-Drop-Point/dp/B00B0E1MB6

Someone going out with them intention of rescuing persons or animals would probably be carrying something like this though:

https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Rescue-Tool-Pocket-Fluorescent/dp/B000PX0LKG

https://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-Assist-Orange-Handle-Rescue/dp/B0012G6KI2

https://www.amazon.com/LEATHERMAN-832590-Raptor-Shears/dp/B07N6P2RCB

https://www.amazon.com/DGX-Titanium-Coated-Stainless-Shears/dp/B01B2YF0AM

And then finally, I'll say this - pretty much anything sharper than a butter knife can be used to safely rescue an animal from most situations. Hell I could probably do it with a can opener or nail clippers. So just decide what sort of situation you expect your characters to have intentionally been prepared for, and go from there.

Just wondering, do you have a budget in mind? If you do I could recommend stuff within that budget.

Edit: Anyways, here's what I would recommend just to start you off with:

M4 RIS
Magpul vertical grip
Red dot sight (for faster aiming)
Dye i4 Mask(These things never fog, fit glasses really well, and is low profile enough that you can still use the iron sights. I would recommend a beanie for head protection)
Condor Chest Rig(Not the best quality, but enough for Airsoft, also has MOLLE weaving so you can swap out the pouches for other MOLLE addons)

I would not recommend a sniper rifle because they need a lot of costly upgrades in order to be effective. Also playing the role of a sniper in a game is boring, you just sit back and shoot all day. You may get a lot of "kills" but in the end of the day, you're just robbing yourself of the fun/adrenaline rush of being on the front line.

Also I would not recommend a pistol until you really feel like you need one. Most of the time, especially if you play CQB, you're not going to run out of ammo any time soon, and your primary isn't going to suddenly die on you for the most part. If you do decide to buy one, I would recommend a Tokyo Marui pistol, even though it's plastic, it shoots the best out of the box and is super accurate, has crisp blowback, and they make unique pistols that other manufacturers don't make, also avoid the M92 like the plague, it's a lemon design. First off, ditch the Block and get a mans gun. (JK, JK!!! It's a joke!)

For the knife, just go to a Cabelas, or what have you and hold a few, manipulate the opening mechanism and decide what you like. I've had the same Benchmade for going on 3 years and it's still in great shape.

For the wallet, I've had the Saddleback ID wallet for about 2 years and it just keeps getting better and better as it gets a more worn look. I love it and strongly recommend it.

Phone case: personal preference on form/function, I'm rocking the Magpul case because I like the color and minimalist design while still giving adequate protection.

Check out the 5.11 Rush 12 for carrying your stuff, I have used one every day for work and school for the last 2 years and it's great, no complaints.

u/Shingyouji · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I have a Rush 72 from 5.11
Helmet (Fullface) fits between the Admin-pocket flap and the main backpack, as long as you keep the Admin-pocket relatively empty, so kinda outside but still protected from scratches and bumping into things. I'm happy with the backpack, quite wide, not too high to bother with the helmet, not to low to sit comfortable, waterbladder pocket and openings are nice on long rides, Molle webbing is always welcome for customisation. It's relatively big which I see as an advantage.

Alternatively you could look here some of them have helmet pockets.

As others have stated, tell others where you are going, when you plan to be somewhere.if possible check in with people. The bear spray is good one and a better one that the hornet wasp spray because it has a wider funnel of spray so it is easier to aim. With wasp spray you have to be careful not to get hit yourself, it is a neurotoxic so it can affect you too. And the effects can remain. Another option is a taser like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MV7BOUT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_rbXTCbFJB1VCZ

They specifically designed to give you time to get away from the treat. They will zap for 30 seconds and it will take the person at least a minute to get control again over their muscles. If you pull the trigger again it will zap for another 30 seconds. These are allowed in all states after a 2016 Supreme Court decision. But with all means of self defense you have to think about step 2; how do you get away or keep the treat down. You could use these zip tie handcuffs and make sure to tie persons hands behind them https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3UAZ3B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_UfXTCb4WPP4G4

I am sorry that you have to think about this but the best advice is to go with someone else. If you live in an area where you are allowed to protect yourself with a firearm, get one and get training on how to use it correctly. Your life might depend on it.

Got a blade material are you looking for? (stainless steel or carbon)

Blade profile? (drop point, tanto, spear, clip)

Blade grind? (Flat, Saber, Scandinavian, or Hollow)

Off the top of my head:

Becker BK16 - flat 1095Cro-Van

Esee Camp Lore PR-4 - Saber 1095

Esee 4P - flat 1095

Esee Izula - flat 1095

Morakniv Bush Crafter - Scandinavian 1095

Morakniv Garberg - Scandinavian 14C28N

Cold Steel Master Hunter - Flat VG1 in San Mai

FYI The ESEE brand has perhaps the best lifetime warranty of fixed blades. Return and they will replace with no questions asked policy. It is also transferable so they do tend to keep their value over time. Tactical Intent is a verified seller on amazon. At that price range you can get a pretty great knife.

Hope this helps!

u/Kromulent · 1 pointr/knives

The exposed tang like that does no good at all. It's just styling.

One of the most basic bushcraft skills is firemaking with a bow and drill. This requires making shallow holes for both the tip and the butt of the drill to rest while it is being twisted. The ability to put a hole in a piece of wood is useful in other contexts, too.

It's very easy to make a hole by putting your palm over the butt of the knife while twisting and rotating it with your other hand. Safe and easy, and essentially impossible with an exposed tang.

It jabs you whenever your sheathed knife presses against your body. It gets cold. It makes it impossible to use the butt as a hammer. And it gives you nothing in return. It's more awkward to use it for drawing sparks than the spine of the knife, and unless you expect to encounter a lot of unbroken windshields, it's pretty much otherwise useless.

This is a useful way to do it:

http://www.amazon.com/Ka-Bar-Kraton-Handled-Straight-Knife/dp/B004NN3KF2

And if you don't want the added weight, then at least do this:

The Kraton version of the Mark 1 Navy knife Because it fixes every problem I have with the classic Ka-Bar. The crossguard on the classic keeps you from putting your thumb on the spine for a more useful grip, while the Navy Ka-Bar only has a guard on the edge side. The classic comes in a shorter version, but it's really just a scaled down version of the original, so the handle is much too small for larger hands and doesn't fill the palm comfortably. The Navy Ka-Bar has a much more filling grip as well as a shorter blade that's still broad enough to be very strong. Plus it's nice and cheap.

u/Kalash_Lover · -1 pointsr/ak47

I appreciate it. For the price chicom is awesome but would something like this be a solid buy? I like that it has mag pouches for the pistol as well, but do you think reloads would be made easier?

It's not the most fashionable but I'm currently using the 5.11 Tactical Rush 72. It has a TON of storage, webbing and it's super east to access anything you need. Plus, it's water repelling, durable and super comfortable. 5.11 makes smaller sizes but I prefer this one since I can cram anything I want into it.

I'd probably go with a Kobun from Cold Steel. It's a pretty sweet looking and a very effective tactical blade. The sheeth isn't that great, but you can't expect much from a 30$ knife. Uses AUS8A stainless steel, which is pretty good for a knife that cheap. It's also very light and sturdy (full tang) making it a very good tactical blade IMO.

Theres a two pack. Give one to a friend.

Always test it once downwind first. Each cannister has about 20 shots.

If you ever have to use it never pussy foot it, otherwise you'll just escalate the situation and potentially freeze. Unload the thing on the attacker so that you're 100 percent sure it'll incapacitate

They're cheap, it's not like you're wasting gas or something.

There's that thing too. Those are good from close range.

It's good to get brightly colored ones so you can easily find it.

The pepper spray with the plastic shell is better because the grip makes it obvious which way it's pointing.

But again, always test them to make sure they aren't defective. There's always a chance that you have a dud that doesnt spray right.

Wow this thing is so cool.

Here are some options:

Ka-Bar:

Mark 1 Kraton handle

BK5

Neck Knife

Condor:

Bushcraft Basic

Kephart Knife

Bushlore

Basically-a-Mora-options:

Hultafors Heavy Duty

Cold Steel Finn Hawk

Ka-Bar's 1095 is pretty damn good. The Magnum Camp Knife is bigger than you were looking for, but it's a solid value. Condor knives are very high value, but can be rough around the edges. The Hultafors and Cold Steel knives I linked are stainless, but should do well in a kayak. All these knifes will take a beating and should be useful for a wide variety of tasks (some better than others, of course, but I wanted to offer a wide selection of size, shape, and grind).

u/shutyercornhole · 2 pointsr/SelfDefense

For the most part this was exactly the outcome you could hope for. You are self aware and continually check your surroundings for exactly this purpose. They identified you as a potential target but then you engaged them, identified them, and chose the wisest path of egress. You did not present the easy target they may have been searching for.

IMHO, groups like this are only a threat as long as they're together. While personal alarms (almost as effective as car alarms), and stun guns hold a purpose neither would be effective in this situation. Pepper spray could strike multiple opponents and buy you the time to Get Outta Dodge. Keep doing what you're doing. Consider adding something like this to your daily carry: https://www.amazon.com/SABRE-Red-Pepper-Gel-Strength/dp/B004NKSPR8/ref=sr_1_4?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1484697105&sr=1-4&keywords=pepper+spray+self+defense

Sorry, can't recommend a good axe, let alone one to EDC. The little I know about axes is from Wranglerstar on Youtube.

As for knives, how much money are you willing to spend and what sort of tasks will the knife primarily be used for? Cutting threads off your t-shirts? Have yourself a little $39 Leek. Yes, another Kershaw. Get over it. Kershaw makes affordable knives for a variety of tasks.

Don't want a Kershaw still? Well, the OKC Rat-1 in $24 AUS8 or $44 D2. There's also the $22 OKC Utiliac. How about the very simple $29 Victorinox Cadet? The $31 Cold Steel Finn Wolf? The $44 Kizer Vanguard?

I own all of these knives, some of them for a lot longer than others. All of which are nice at a fair price. In that $40-$50 range you start getting the Spyderco Tenacious, Kershaw Blur (personally I think it's one of the best value knives and I recently damn near stole one from Amazon for $35), and the nicer CRKT M-16s. You might be able to fine a Spyderco Delica for ~$60.

u/Bloodless_ · 10 pointsr/creepyencounters

Be very careful with this. Normal men in their 60s do not sexually pursue teenagers. Normal men listen when you say "no."

Next time don't apologize and blame it on policy or an imaginary boyfriend or that you're busy, because that leads this type on and it makes them think you would otherwise be interested, and they will try to wear you down. Don't say "oh I'm sorry, I can't because..."

Just tell the truth: "I am not interested in that. Please don't ask me again."

The most important thing I learned at that age is that you, yourself, have to be the "reason" you're not giving out your number. That gives them nothing to work with. Also, don't smile, don't be cute or quiet or unsure in any way. Make direct eye contact when you say "don't ask me again."

If he persists, escalates, or gets aggressive with you in any way, call the police. Don't deal with it yourself. They will let him know why it is inappropriate for a man in his 60s to try to force a teenager to have sex with him.

You would also be wise to get some pepper gel and keep it on you at all times at work. Better to have it and never use it, than to arrive at that moment wishing you had it. I speak from experience. Be safe.

u/snugglebuttt · 2 pointsr/gadgets

I've been carrying the Kershaw Leek which is really nice if you want a precision point. Also a super fun opening mechanism. Definitely not great if you're gonna be doing rough work, as the point would fairly easily break.

Funny your name is Saber, because Sabre is definitely the one I rely on.

The best is the Sabre Red Police-Grade Pepper Gel. It comes out in a wide spray of gel like substance, which is awesome because the first thing people do when they get hit in the face is to try to smear it off their face with both hands. But, the more you smear the gel, the worse it gets. It completely incapacitates them for better than typical spray.

It's only 13 dollars, I highly recommend it for any traveler.

I bought it because I liked the look. Needless to say it was a cheap thing and I really only cut about 5 things with it before a screw popped out of the handle. Also the locking on the knife is very flimsy.

The Kershaw Cryo has about the same weight and is about half the size. The blade is also sharper and the locking it much more secure.
The blade is much smaller (which is better, because I am in the knife police state of New York). I got it for $34.90 off of Amazon. The seller I bought it from is now selling it for $49.

The Kershew is an obvious better purchase then the cheaper Mtech Chainlink.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/knives

Exactly, whenever I'm not at work I'll carry oc or more. Sabre sells some that clip into a pocket well for only 7$. There's also products that can attach to keychains. Or if you want the extra liability Taser sells the pulse for 400$ which you can conceal in a waistband pretty easily (it's very small). I use a 5.11 covrt 18 backpack and a pair of 5.11 covrt tech sleeves for situations very similar to what you describe, and this is perhaps the last "urban" backpack I'll ever buy. I've had it since 2012, and I've used it for everything ranging from airplane travel, light-duty day walks in the woods, EDC for work, motorcycle riding, and other odds and ends where it gets tossed around, and it hasn't faulted me yet. A lot of smartly placed pockets, and when you add the tech sleeves to the shoulder straps (there's velcro that will accommodate the sleeves that's integrated into the shoulder straps), it's almost like it's not necessary to have pockets in your clothing anymore. It will accommodate a 2L water reservoir, but IMO that's pointless since I feel an urban pack loses some discretion with a water tube coming out of it. So I've re-purposed that portion of the pack and go with the water bottle holders on the sides. There's tons of flexibility in this bag, which is why I love it and always recommend it.

u/fr0st_bytes · 0 pointsr/homedefense

This is the OC I personally use, but in a smaller canister since I carry it with me. I like this one cause it's one that can be sprayed from any angle, so if a confrontation gets physical, you can spray it upside down if need be. If you're worried about being accurate with your adrenaline pumping, something like this would help that, but it's also gonna cause even more OC to be in the room/area and you'll feel the effects stronger as well. TASER is in fact a brand, but it's basically THE ECW. The TASER Pulse+ is an option, though.

I prefer OC in self defense over the TASER. This is a video showing why. It's a physical confrontation only, not exactly the same situation you're preparing for, but if you ended up having to defend yourself and due to moral or legal obligations, a firearm isn't an option...OC puts baddies on their butt.

Did you say you already had a TASER? Something to keep in mind, some people here suggested gel OC spray...if you spray someone with gel OC, then tase them, there is a chance they catch on fire. Water based OC sprays are the way to go in my opinion. We're not allowed to carry gel based spray for that reason.

I recently received $400 in Amazon gift cards from my Chase Freedom rewards card. These are some of the practical items I've bought for myself:

Fenix E21 Flashlight (2xAA, 150/48 Lumens) - $32.45

Victorinox Swiss Army Champion Plus Pocket Knife - $29.99

Spyderco Resilience Black G-10 PlainEdge Knife - $39.14

Those 3 items add up to $101.58 but if you buy a flashlight you'll also need to buy batteries. I also bought a Fenix TK35 High Performance 820 Lumen Flashlight after being impressed by the Fenix E21.

Besides those items I bought a 1000mA car charger for my phone to replace a cheap 500mA charger, two 4GB SD (not SDHC) cards for use in my '07 Audi, a 5x7 Maxpedition Fatty Pocket Organizer, and a Philips Sonicare HX9332/05 DiamondClean Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush

Seriously, where are these idiots suggesting bear mace coming from?

If anyone is wondering, this is the one I recommend - $10 - it's the same formula as used by police departments across the country. The key chain attachment makes it easy to tie on a bright colored string lanyard, thus if it's tucked in your purse or pocket you'll easily find it. It's very effective.

If you want to step up in terms of distance, this is the one you want.

These spray a gel like spray, so the likelihood of it blowing in your face is very low.

Different types are rated for different strengths. For example 550 paracord can hold 550lbs, is about 1/6 of an inch thick, weighs about 7 oz for 100 feet of cord and costs less then ten dollars for that same 100 feet.

It's some pretty useful and nifty string.

u/CreativeRealmsMC · 1 pointr/CampingandHiking

I started working on a kit and figure it would be good to brainstorm about it a bit. While it probably doesn't deserve it's own thread, I'd like some input about it if possible since I still have time to change things around before I order anything.

I plan on going hiking/camping anywhere from 1-3 days and potentially even more if possible.
The pack I'm currently looking into is the 5.11 Rush 72 which should fit the bill. It has a pouch for my hydration bladder (which is a must have since I live in an arid region and running water can be rare depending on where you are located) as well as the molle for additional customization if needed.

When I'm out camping I like to have the ability to fry food as well as grill it. I have a makeshift grill that I constructed out of four tent pegs and a grate so I have that covered. In regards to frying I found a cook set that seems like it would be useful for my needs. I doubt that I would bring the entire set with me (besides the frying pan and maybe the pot if I have dried meals) which should cut down on weight a little.

For my sleep system I'm looking at a Aqua Quest 10x7 ultralight tarp, paracord (for hanging the tarp plus other uses if needed), and an OutdoorsmanLab Ultralight Sleeping Pad. I'm not entirely sure that I need a tarp since it rarely rains here but I can see it having potential against sun/wind. Both the sleeping pad and tarp fold up to about the size of a bottle which will allow me to store more gear if needed. I already have a sleeping bag insert and mummy bag if need be but I don't see myself using them for 3/4ths of the year.

Lastly, I'm looking at getting a Mora Companion for bushcraft related activities.

In total all the gear weighs about five pounds which seems reasonable enough. Let me know what you guys think.

u/Connguy · 6 pointsr/knifeclub

I don't know what you wanted to do with this blade, but I can almost guarantee you there are far superior pieces for less money (in the $25-30). Gerber doesn't even tell you what steel the blade uses, they call it "High Carbon Stainless". This means it's probably a very cheap Chinese steel. But in this price range you won't find much better, so that's not a huge issue. The big problem with this knife is handle. It's cheap plastic like is used in all mass-produced Chinese crap, with a cheap rubber coating intended for improved grip. If you put any sort of strain on this handle (like a survival knife is supposed to get), it's going to crap out on you. This guy on blade forums broke his in the initial round of testing.

Maybe you should consider an SOG blade or a Kershaw Funxion if you're looking for a partially serrated, more tool-like knife. On the other hand, if all you want is a folder knife, there are literally hundreds of better options all over this sub for less cost. I love my Kershaw Scrambler

u/SlipperyJim211 · 2 pointsr/knives

Please forgive me for asking the obvious, but did you search Amazon? They seem to have a large collection of tanto knives available for sale, with prices that range from $20-something up to ten times that much. Here's an example for you.

With that said, please keep in mind that you have to pay for quality. A $34.99 knife with a blade of AUS-8 steel is simply not going to compare to a hand-forged Japanese knife. But it might be good enough for you, so enjoy!

I've never bought an expensive man purse before, but I can say hands down this is the best bag I've ever owned. I chose this over the highly recommended Timbuk2 bags because it had more zippers on the exterior flap, so I can got to the commonly used items faster. (I've also got a rageing design boner for military design, because its built to last & infinately customizable with molle webbing) I carry about the same amount of stuff, and there's pockets for pretty much all of it. My only complaint, is there's so many damn pockets I forget where I put things - then it becomes a no-hold-barred zipper & velcro jamboree.

Is something like a Condor Recon Chest rig for $56.63 out of your budget? (Amazon.ca has more colour options as well!)

Check out other sites as black Friday sales are going on today! Could be some pretty good stuff on cheap elsewhere!

My go-to combo is the Ka-Bar Cutlass machete and the Ka-Bar small sheath knife.

There's not much else you need to do on your own in the forest that these two things won't do. They hold an edge and if you keep them reasonably clean, they'll last your lifetime. Best of all, they're slim and easy to pack.

I'd add this handheld job if you think you will need to get at larger pieces of wood.

Of course, if you're not concerned about weight and portability, get a fuckin' axe.

Not sure if serious or concern trolling. When you attend an event carry pepper spray it's really cheap to buy. With all the criminal illegal aliens running around it is a good idea to have some on hand anyway. Order from Amazon if you must but please if possible buy from a locally owned and operated business instead. Spending money in your own community creates jobs and growth in your own community. MAGA!

If bigger is better i would probably have to recommend the 5.11 RUSH 72. If your looking for a day pack or something to carry your crap to work then either the RUSH 12 or 24 would also work. While on the quest for the "Right bag for me" picked up the RUSH line of bags and fell in love with the 72, but it was just too massive to carry with me everyday to and from work and around town. I moved to the 12 which was too small as i carry a 15" macbook pro and tools for work, which led me to the 24 which has so far been the perfect size with some space to spare.

Or! You could buy this Police Strength pepper spray for $7 and resell on the location for $16-$18. When people are afraid, they'd buy what you have to keep them safe. This is another way to capitalize the fear of being robbed while playing Pokemon Go that people got lately.

When you sell power bank, they will ask you about the specs/feature. When you sell pepper spray, you sell them a benefit. It always works better.

What people are hinting at and not saying, is that you can get yourself a really good bag that will do everything you could need (unless your needs are INTENSELY specalized) for around $100. Anyone much over that is either too far into their own hype, or are approaching dimishing returns as far as dollar per feature.

Get a little more specific about what you're carrying around, or what you do regularly and options can be narrowed. Some people carry more, and some less. A 5.11 Rush 10 may be your size, where as others need a larger bag like a Rush 12.

Do you want single or double strap? Do you care about a military type bag or would you prefer a more urban look? Do you carry a laptop? Do you have any hobbies that require special gear? Does it need to be close to water proof? Do you plan to have to carry it around for long periods of time or will it spend a lot of time in the car? Does it need to perform double duty as a school/work bag?

All of these are going to be rugged options. None of these are over $150. Some are larger than others and some are sling packs. Others are backpack style. Some more urban than others.

You CAN get spendy on a pack, but really...I don't see much reason unless you want something that isn't available at a lower price somewhere else. Goruck is well thought of, but their bags seem expensive to me for what they are.

Bears have much more sensitive noses and are typically fended-off from a longer distance. It's a much bigger can and it makes a big cloud. Pepper gel comes in a much smaller canister and is supposed to be safer to use and more effective on humans.

u/Renz2LK · 3 pointsr/cosplay

Being a paintball/airsoft player, I have most of the gear that work on piecing something like this together. I too had the issue you are facing when it came to the accessories that separate this cosplay from standard military based cosplay.

  • For the comm unit you can try any of these 3D files (I know nothing about 3D printing, so hope this works for you). Option 1, Option 2, Option 3

  • For the watch: Option 1, Option 2. Not sure about adding LEDs to these though. OR if you have a smart watch with a large face, you can download a Division app or wallpaper that could give you the same effect.

  • As for backpacks you should look at Maxpedition backpacks but they are expensive but can be used for every day use. Otherwise, there's a knock-off or imitation company Yukon Tactical that are slightly less expensive but mimic the Maxpedition ones.

  • Med kit - you can use something like this and add a velcro medical cross to the front of it.

  • The Dark Zone loot pack - you can probably follow any one of these links to see if there is a DIY for this. I made mine with yellow craft foam rolled around a coffee can, some straps, and hot glue. Simple enough.

  • sleeping bag? I don't recall one being in the game, not sure i've ever encountered carrying one around also.

I asked my friend who is a gun/self defense nut what brand of pepper spray I should buy. He recommended Saber Red Gel. Its long range, a gel instead of a spray so you're less likely to get sprayed accidentally when you use it, and has tear gas mixed in for good measure. I don't disagree, I just like something I can easily conceal between my belt if I want to, also the whole intimidation thing. > any specific knife recommendations

I'm sure you'd get better than my (recommendations) from a specific sub but we've been using Cutco at home with great success so far. We've got a basic set for home, spent altogether about $40-60 per blade, and couldn't be happier so far. In the restaurant (sushi) the chef pics his own stuff and I see him with no name knives he gets somewhere from Korea that he has sharpened about every 3-4 days and it works for him, I'm sure it wouldn't be exactly what you'd want for home unless you want to be flashy.

At home we also have and use constantly some random stuff including all kinds of J.A.Henckels knives with various success, I think the worst one was either Spanish or Chinese made. I like a $5 random blade at some point acquired from Target or Walmart better than one of those.

Again, the main point is to find something that serves your purpose without emptying your wallet. Cutco more or less did it for us at home and now and then we'd use some very very weird and random stuff we picked up here and there, nothing really fancy, and whenever we have people who prep food us and don't bring their own tools, they are ok with our even shittiest serrated plastic handle crap, which is kind of weird.

Personal favorite though, sometimes for shits and giggles, I'll cut a salad with a Ka-Bar (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/KA-BAR-1213-Black-Straight-Sheath/dp/B001AIAIP8/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1497043965&sr=1-2&keywords=ka-bar).

Pepper spray is totally legal in Colorado if you're using it in self-defense. It's legal to carry and you don't need to warn people around you that you are in possession of it-- in other words, you can conceal carry it legally. I believe it's also legal to brandish it. I carry this with me at all times. Important to use pepper gel and not pepper spray, as it's more wind-resistant and less likely to blow back into your face.

I keep a can in my backpack when I'm at school. I'm sure someone has mentioned it already but having a good awarness of your souroundings will do you wonders. Just remember that spray is not ment to end the fight as much as it is to disorient your attacker so you can flee. That's why most of these sprays come with a uv active agent so your attacker can be identified later. And of course make sure your state and local laws don't restrict you from having self defense spray.

Bear spray is considered a pesticide by the epa and as such has standards for humane treatment. It is not meant to incpapacitate as pepper spray is. It isn’t as strong as I thought it was though. (In retrospect this makes sense due to a Bears much greater sense of smell than a person) Pepper sprays have more oil making them thicker and harder to remove. Bear sprays are designed to create a cloud for maximum coverage making where as pepper spray is a stream for less splash damage and blow back.

One of the problems was that the officer used a pepper spray which he had no right to use. he is authorized and trained to use MK4 but he used MK9.

MK9 is bigger, more potent which requires more training to use (but which to be knowledge works pretty much like MK4 in practice).

I understand the officers choice to use MK9, as MK4 is not designed to be used on so many people, and he would have had to empty several canisters in order to spray all the protestors, but rules and regulatons are there for a reason, and sometimes they are used in order to shitcan someone.

I would advise getting this one. Very user friendly and reliable. I run frequently and use the clip to tuck it in my shorts that don't have pockets. Never moves.

Go to the middle of bum-fuck nowhere and give it some practice shots just so you know what you are dealing with.

u/LogicalAmeoba · -2 pointsr/news

Disagree. If you think it's not at all that effective, order this and upload a video of how it feels. I have tried it on my arms, it BURNS, I can't imagine how bad it would be for eyes.

It's so strong that amazon is not allowed to ship it to a handful of states and is used also by Law Enforcement.

You can buy a 100 feet of the cord for a few bucks.

Look up how to weave it and you will be even more useful.

u/Thetomas · 1 pointr/airsoft

Yeah, we're going to need to know what you're going to use it for before we can tell you why condor sucks :).

Seriously though, I daily carry the 5.11 messenger bag, and it's great.

u/VaguePeeSmell · 6 pointsr/knifeclub

Something with an Emerson Wave like the Kershaw CQC-10K. That being said, you really do want pepper spray instead. C'mon OP, it's only $7 and it's better than being stabbed with your own knife.

u/Girfex · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I need a buddy! I offer up some god damned handy rope. Rope's always useful. Who wants to be my buddy?

u/Ensign_Ricky_ · 1 pointr/everymanshouldknow

You don't need a full end-of-the-world kit with you, but keeping a knife handy is usually a good idea. I keep one of these in my car. It makes a good beater knife, plus it has a window breaker and seatbelt cutter. At about $20 it is hard to go wrong.

Better yet, get the same product with inert contents.

Also, this is legal to conceal carry in California:

If you’re willing to shell out the cash, this can be a good alternative.

u/thescottster · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

your first one would work ok with minimal techwear. not a fan of the second.

bagjack is the manufacturer for acronym's bags. their bags don't cost $1000+ but the smaller ones do run around 200. I'd rec them if you can spend extra.

http://www.bagjack.com/

Militaria backpacks go really well with busy techwear, and you can get away with them while wearing minimal techwear but it's not as cool

Also, the Kershaw Leek - great slender knife

Edit: Almost forgot, the Leek has a tip lock to prevent the knife from opening accidentally

u/Spookyredd · 2 pointsr/LetsNotMeet

Lol. I did think of that. I'm just afraid that if I was able to unbuckle my dog's leather collar, I could open a lock box.

I'm thinking of getting one of these though

I was looking at the Saddle Mountain Skinner since it is a bit smaller. The Bushcrafter felt a little awkward in my hand.

Same steel and a little thinner in the handle. I just don't think I like the jimping at the tip of the knife.

u/electropop999 · 10 pointsr/UIUC

Feeling unsafe. Just my opinion, buying a pepper spray should be considered by late commuters for self defense. $7 at Amazon

Depending upon your bag setup you could use a pouch that will Velcro into the inside (I have this one inside of a larger bag, so it stays in place itself, and then the individual items are also secured within): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005257ZDS/

If you have more vertical pouches inside of the bag (which I used to have in a laptop bag I found this one useful for cords, styli, etc.: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OXJL5K/

I agree with every saying to check the laws in your state. I personally live in the suburbs of a pretty big city in a low crime area. My office is also in a low crime area. I always carry my can of pepper spray and/or a charged taser when I'm walking to my car at night. In my state, you can't conceal-carry a taser, so I'll walk with keys in one hand and taser in the other. So far I've had zero incidents, but you can never be too safe!

Btw this is my taser. It's cheap,, has a flashlight, and it's PINK! :) https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01F4EM5N6/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1484760174&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=taser&dpPl=1&dpID=41bflzkxNHL&ref=plSrch

If you dont mind the 'tactical' look, take a look at MOLLE options. They are like Lego for bags.

Rush 12 + Mask Pouch

u/itsobs · 5 pointsr/backpacks

You shouldn't. Even if the backpack looks decent in pictures, you will be disappointed once it does arrive if you decide to buy.

5.11 Rush 12 Only about $40 more expensive, but will definitely last you a LOT longer.

There are a number of sizes you can choose from. I carry pepper spray in my pocket at all times.. It isnt a pain to carry at all and it can be out in the same amount of time, if quicker, than a knife. Less lethal...

u/illeilleille · 25 pointsr/india

Where in India? Because India as a whole is a very big country with every region being a country in itself.

1)Always drink bottled water.

2)Stay with your group. Don't go anywhere alone.

3)If you are into alcohol and stuff (I know you are underage but still), refrain from taking too much and getting sloshed however fun it is.

4)Don't be gullible.

5)Keep [this] (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=portable+anker) and this on you all the time.

6)It's generally safe but I have a feeling you might go into ghetto type of areas a lot because of the nature of your trip. Be careful.

7)Don't go around wearing clothes that reveal too much. You will be working in very poor areas and those kind of people are not used to seeing that kind of stuff.

8)People will stare at you a lot. I know it sucks but that's how it is.

9)Read up on common scams that go on. Make sure you dont fall for them.

11)Be wary of everyone. Don't take food or drinks from anyone you meet in your travels.

Pepper sauce is red which will give it away and doesn't kill the sperm. Always use a combination of spermicidal lube and clear pepper spray or arbies horse radish sauce packets (white).

u/Girth_rulez · 8 pointsr/SeattleWA

This stuff. It's gel...shoots exactly where you want it to go, not like an aerosol that will blow back on you. https://www.amazon.com/SABRE-Red-Pepper-Gel-Strength/dp/B004NKSPR8/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1C4HR0ZYXNSU&keywords=sabre+red+pepper+gel&qid=1574939274&sprefix=sabre+re%2Caps%2C426&sr=8-4 You can go on Youtube and verify how well it works.

u/LandonSullivan · 6 pointsr/CCW

Far as I can tell, she can legally carry a taser. Do NOT get a stun gun, they are only useful as a deterrent, you have to be literally touching somebody with one to do anything, and pretty much only output voltage. Tasers, on the other hand, can be used from significantly farther away, and deliver a much higher amperage, which is the part that actually drops people. It's not good for very long, maybe 20 seconds at most, so if you end up getting a taser, make absolutely sure that she knows knows KNOWS to immediately seek sanctuary before calling authorities. Don't go miles away, just get somewhere safe but close, otherwise with a good enough lawyer the assailant could catch her on an Assault charge, even if she calls the cops first. No sense risking it.

As for OC spray, try getting OC gel instead, it's outputs an adhesive, cohesive line with a much lower chance of blowback. I think Sabre is what some people use. Haven't touched OC in a while, it's not a good idea to carry both it and a gun at the same time.

A good knife can't hurt long as she knows how to use it. Kershaw assisted open or whatnot.

u/scottocs · 9 pointsr/Chattanooga

If not with a gun, with a portable pepper spray.

u/SeafoodDuder · 16 pointsr/Advice

Just sounds like a bunch of weak-minded bullies that have nothing else to do with their time. They probably picked on you because they thought you were alone. Please consider buying some Pepper Spray and keeping it in your purse. There's lots of crazy men and women out there.
